- Started first seed of ILGM Maui Wowie in a root riot starter cube. I put in a few extra cubes for extra humidity. The cubes went into a germination dome under a sunblaster T5 light that will stay on 24hr. For the first watering, I used 3ml Conex cone and seedling nutrient mixed with great white Mycorrhiza in 20oz of water from my pur water filter. - Found some light mold and algae on the other pots in the dome so humidity was little high on day 4. I removed the dome, turned on an oscillating fan (lowest speed), and turned on a small humidifier to dry it out a little bit. Dome is looking better on day 6 and I made a note to not overwater as much! -Start of week two on the seedling. Lots of new leaves and getting some height on the stem. Pulling back on the water as mentioned in the previous point was a big help and it shows. Not long until I move it into the tent!

-Week one of veg. I transplanted into a small container with FF Ocean Forest soil and watered with plain water and cal mag. I am leaving it under the T5 light for a few days while it gets used to the new soil but will move it into the 2x2 tent soon. There is some yellowing on the edges of the serrated leaves which may be due to ph (runoff measured 6.93) so I will try to lower that a little. If you think it may be something else, please comment, I am open to tips! -Moved into the 2x2 tent a few days into veg. Soil was dry and container was lighter after a few days under the 600w LED so I watered with the filtered water with cal mag. Praise be to the general hydroponics ph up/down and the tester that came with it. I adjusted the water a bit and the run off this time was 6.53 ph and 437 ppm, much better this time.

Week two of veg brought some good growth in height and new branches! Not seeing as much yellowing in the fan leaves, just the tips on a few older ones so may have sorted the water issue finally (still plan to keep a close eye on that). I topped a few of the branches and have had some very fast new growth. I am unsure if I should top the higher section to force more outward growth (see last pic for this week) or if that is too greedy or early in the grow. Trying to not get ahead of myself with this grow. If you're reading this, let me know what you think if you've been in a similar situation. She's almost ready for another transplant to a bigger pot so possibly kicking that off next week.

Grow Questions

sleeksstarted grow question 4 years ago
Is it too early to top the plant below the top nodes? Trying to not get ahead of myself or be too hasty since this is my first grow. Would it be worth it at this point or would it be better to get some more growth in?

Well I would't top that place, as it has been topped already. Maybe further top the new branches. My advice is you should consider a transplant in a larger container, depending on your grow room size, remove the lower 2 branches, wait a week and then top the new shoots. And don't forget fertilizing after an invasive action like topping or HST.

-First week in the 5 gal fabric pot and seems to be growing well. No more yellowing leaf tips for now so fingers crossed it stays that way. Started to LST some of the branches and topped the new growth.

- Added some more wire this week to try and get all the new growth into the light. Topped a few at the beginning of the week and I'm pretty happy with how it is looking today!

- Starting to fill out the 2x2 tent. This week and the next few will be evening out the canopy and growing outward. - Put in the scrog net before I flip to flower. I will adjust the branches for the remainder of this veg week to keep them under the netting.

- The canopy filled out side to side in the tent and got to the size I was aiming for so flipped to 12/12 flower light schedule on Aug 22. Throughout the week I have been folding the branches under the net to keep the canopy pretty even. It was also about the time when the soil nutrients were almost done so added in the Dr Earth Gold fertilizer. I picked up some more flower specific nutrients from my local hydro store (just opened this month!) so we'll see how those go when it is feeding time again.

- Week two of transition to flower!! I was away for a few days but not a ton of change from week 1 to 2 of flower other than the bud sites developing slightly more. I lollipoped some of the lower branches that were not getting any light and were looking a bit sad. Left the the plant a little too long and was starting to get some droop in the leaves but gave her a drink so she should perk back up soon.

- Week three of flower coming in hot. A lot of the bud sites are coming in quite well! I added a support post on the main trunk to give her a little more stability and I picked up some bamboo poles in case the individual branches need help once the buds get bigger. I noticed a few leaves in the front had some tears/holes but I was not sure if that was from accidentally catching them with the tent flap or bugs. I cooked up a preventative spray with water, cinnamon, rosemary oil, and pepper and gave her a really light mist on top and bottom right after lights out.

- The buds are really forming this week! All the bud sites are coming in nicely and getting plenty of light. I defoliated a little more this week as many of the lower branches/leaves were not getting any light and starting to wither. Hoping she keeps going at this pace.

- Flowering marches on. The buds are really filling out at this point and it is so exciting to check on them and see the progress. A little browning on the leaf tips which I believe may be my ph since I noticed it was a little high. I corrected that back down to a more reasonable level so we'll see how that goes.

- So far this week everything is running as usual. I did notice that some of the branches were getting top heavy and starting to lean. I put in some bamboo stakes to hold them up and that seems to have helped. So for this week it will mostly be adding supports where needed and looking forward to harvest.

- Almost there! More of the flowers are getting top heavy so had to add more stakes, glad I bought a big pack of them. I checked some of the larger buds and the trichomes are starting to get a bit cloudy with an amber one here and there so maybe another week or two until I harvest those. The odor was really starting to spread through the house so I bought another filter and inline fan to run outside the tent. It is working really well, money well spent.

- Rounding off what looks to be the last week of flower. I flushed with only ph adjusted water for this week and I have been keeping an eye on the trichomes with a cheap usb microscope I picked up. Based on their progress so far, I will most likely be harvesting on Saturday or Sunday this week!!

Happy Harvest Day!

Maui Wowie was a great strain for my first grow. The only problems I had were my own fault. The plant itself grew very well and was so much fun to take care of. I cannot wait for the drying & curing to be over so I can see how it tastes.

MauiWowie was a treat to grow. This was my very first ever grow and I could not have asked for a more chill experience. This strain was really easy to maintain and responded will to changes. I messed up the PH and PPMs a few times early on but she was a tough girl and the only thing I got was some yellowed leaf tips. I grew in Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil so I did not have to put in that many nutrients until a bit later so I definitely recommend this strain and soil combo for new growers as it is extremely forgiving and allowed me plenty of room to learn. I am so excited to finish drying and curing to I can finally taste the fruits of this endeavor. I cannot wait to grow this one again! My first grow and first grow diary on this site is coming to a close. I am already planning the next grow and which strain I am going to try out. Thanks to everyone in the community for your kind words and helpful tips as I worked my way through this one. You all are the best!

@ManicMiner, I was considering that myself but was worried about spacing since it is only a 2x2x4 tent. But something I may pursue. I did pick up some bamboo sticks so going to be giving her some more support shortly, my todo list never stops haha.

Allright, looking good ! You can stop now with the Calmag and start feeding her at least half a dose of a grow nutrient, every other watering.
