5/23/2021 - This is my second attempt at a reasonable grow. My first I didn't bother documenting because I ruined a $15 bean and got a 1/2 ounce of meh quality.
Because of this, I decided to go back to basics with the freebies from Seedsman to dial in my techniques.
I plan on starting her indoors, and then moving outside in a week or so.
Any and all tips are appreciated! I don't want to waste time again!
**************************************
5/26/2021 - She's looking healthy and happy I think. Temps are over 80F no matter what I do, but she doesn't seem to mind. The soil is from outside, so it's pretty loamy. Certainly retains a lot less water than FF Happy Frog. It's also much less hot than HF as evidenced by it being light green vs. dark green. I'm wondering when to add nutrients. I waited until about 2-3 weeks using HF, but I think this may call for it sooner.
**************************************
5/28/2021 - Soil from outdoors is MUCH different than Happy Frog. I decided to add a small amount of Micro because this sandy soil doesn't hold much and she seems a little yellow.
I plan on moving her outside in the 5 gal grow bag outside in a few weeks once she's matured a bit. I've been using ph 6.5 balanced tap water in a tent to water thus far. Should I still be measuring ph when I'm watering outside? Won't rainwater undo any ph balancing?
First I would water a lot less. You only want to water an area about as round as you temp meter and as the grows and dries you can increase the water ring size.
If you are feeding synthetic nutrients you have to ph before you feed even outdoors. Because you are feeding the plants directly what it wants.
Light rain shouldn’t hurt anything at all unless you’re deep in flower
But I would cover the soil with a plate with hole and slit to keep heavy rain from flushing nutrients down the drain so to say. Hope that helps and happy growing!!!
5/31/2021 - Been feeding every other watering. Alternating between FloraMicro & 6.5 ph balanced water @ .25 ml/l and 6.5 ph balanced water and I'm administering it with a spray bottle. I notice some discoloration on the leaves, as well as a mutation on one of the first what should be 3 finger leaves. Not sure if that's just genetics or something I'm doing.
******************************
6/2/2021 - She's growing daily, that's for sure. There's a little canoeing on the leaves I think from either heat or over watering. I've had a hunch I may be a little heavy handed so I'll lay off until the soil dries out a little more.
******************************
6/3/2021 - just some light watering with a spray bottle & FloraMicro (for my own reference)
******************************
6/4/2021 - just chugging along. The leaves are still canoeing a little bit. I've tried adjusting fan speed/location, less frequent watering, moving the light further away, and it persists. The only thing I can think of is just heat at this point. I cant seem to get it much lower even with the AC on in my house, so if that is the problem it is what it is. I'll be moving her outside by day 16 I think anyway. I was hoping to do some LST however this girls stem is hard as a rock right now. Hopefully I can once she gets outside.
******************************
6/6/2021 - brought her outside today. My yards pretty buggy so I sprayed what many would consider way too much neem oil on her at sundown. I tried to spray rinse some off but seems okay.
******************************
6/7/2021 - this morning she's a little droopy and has some little burns on new growth no doubt from the oil. I rinsed her off some more and put her in some shade to avoid burning. She looks okay now.
I had a botched grow in the past and decided to get help from this wonderful community this go around.
Do you see any potential issues in the pics of my grow so far?
I see discoloration and a leaf mutation forming.
Very common in a small seedling. You can help it you by talking to the plant and being positive. If you want her to perk up and start growing like a champ. Put on some Heavy Metal!
6/7/2021 - I -- a seasoned idiot -- sprayed way too much neem oil, causing bad times for all. I spend the day rinsing it off, drying and repeat.
******************************
6/11/2021 - I ended up topping her this morning because the top was all burnt from the neem oil anyway. I figured it'd be best to cut my losses and help the healthy stuff thrive. At least the branches seem to be doing well especially with the LST.
******************************
6/13/2021 - She's responding well to the topping/LST. Really incredible how quick it'll bounce back overnight. I don't remember when I last watered, but it also rained a bit so I'm waiting until the soil dries out. Going to increase FloraMicro next time to help her bulk up.
6/21/2021 - missed a week, but hey she’s much bigger and the LST is really paying off. There was one mutant branch on which every single leaf was like salad fingers and it stopped growing and fell behind the others so I chopped it off. Been spraying neem oil appropriately this time. I see little chews on the leaves so I’m hoping it helps.
6/26/2021 - been a few days since last feeding. Been pretty bad at keeping track as I’m recovering from surgery. She’s looking good though!
6/28/2021 - keep hitting her with light sprays of neem oil. I can't fully get rid of these flying aphids, but theyre not so bad right now. Just doing it's thing
6/29/2021 - Day 37 - LST is paying off. I may not botch this one! Considering defoliation as its a big ol' bush, however tucking has been working.
6/30/2021 - Day 38 - Took off 4-5 leaves today to increase airflow/sunlight. She's got a really low canopy that I regret not filling the pot all the way. Live and learn!
7/4/2021 - Day 43 - pistils coming in, and she’s bulking up. Had her in a tent for a few days due to shit weather but we’re back in action outside.
7/7/2021 - Day 45 - I added a few pics. she's just doing her thing. I just keep coming out every day and moving things around LSTing probably for another week or 2. There are a few nibblets on a couple of leaves but I'm done with the neem oil now that she's flowering.
7/10/2021 - Day 48 - the net is doing wonders for LST. Some branches are starting the stretch, but I’m going to do some more LST until I start seeing actual buds forming.
There’s not much to do now. You did it well by doing a little everyday. Wait for some development and you will be able to make the difference between the main buds shoots, the second layers buds, and the weak shoots to cut off.
7/11/2021 - Day 49 - fed 1.5ml/L floraMicro and floraBloom. Turns out I’m an idiot and have been balancing ph before adding nutrients. Doesn’t seem to have hindered much, but don’t know how I got that mixed up. Could explain some issues in previous grows.
7/16/2021 - Day 54 - fed same again. Just doing her thing
7/19/2021 - Day 57 - took down most of the LST ties as she needed room to breath. Also took down the net as it was pretty much just used for tying for LST. Sugar leaves starting to come in.
7/23/2021 - Day 61 - been plucking leaves/lower bud sites here and there as needed. Not trying to stress her too much. Buds are starting to bulk up.
7/25/2021 - Day 63 - bud as are bulking up and I decided to take her inside to finish out flower. Weathers been all over the place as far as rain goes and I don’t have proper cover outside to be left in the elements during flower.
7/26/2021 - Day 65 - doing well inside, though I notice some little spots forming on the leaves. This happened in my last grow in the tent and I think it was because of the humidifier. I’ve since stopped using it, but if it’s fungal then the spores are in the tent. I took her out and bleached everything inside, the fans etc. pruned the few leaves I saw it on and I hope that’s it....
7/27/2021 - Day 66 - watered 3L ph 6.5 w/ 2ml CalMag
7/29/2021 - Day 68 - just doing her thing. Buds are bulking up. The calmag seemed to help those brown spots that were showing up, which makes sense considering the lower dose of Micro. Temps and humidity is perfect right now and I’m glad I brought her inside cuz it’s been garbo outdoors as far as humidity goes.
7/30/2021 - Day 69 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) - fed 1 ml/l of FloraMicro and 1.33 ml/l of FloraBloom, upped micro and less Bloom. hopefully the additional micro prevents the need for more calmag, but we'll see.
Are these spots fungal? I had this happen last grow in this tent with a humidifier, though I’m not using it for this grow. I’ve bleached the tent and pruned the leaves. Am I in trouble?
8/5/2021 - Day 75 - had a buddy care for her for a few days. Thank goodness for competent friends. The issue I was having seemed a lot like potassium deficiency (thanks, @Roberts!). Upped bloom and hoping for the best, but she’s looking good!
8/9/2021 - Day 78 - back in business, she’s looking thicc, but the K deficiency seems to have gotten a little worse. Upped florabloom to 4ml/l.
8/10/2021 - Day 80 - did some defoliating. I know, highly controversial for this late in flower on an auto in general, but its getting really crowded and id rather risk slowing growth vs losing the harvest to rot.
8/12/2021 - Day 82 - chugging along and fattening up. Smells great. Few more weeks.... edit: Picked up a SF-1000 on Facebook Marketplace for 80 USD. Quite the steal. they both fit in the tent, so I'll be giving her a bunch more light to finish out!
Should I start my flush now? I know it’s not quite ready for harvest, but trichromes are looking pretty cloudy and there’s not too much spaghetti left. Is 1-2 weeks enough time for this to be ready?
She’s looking great. I’d say more like 2-3 weeks left. I guess it depends on how she response to the additional light.
Id give her another 10 days, then if you do wanna flush id start with just ph’ed water for her last 7-14 days.
Each one of those pistols ( hairs) will have a calyx that will swell- packing on weight and girth.
Best of luck 🌱
Woke up today and felt it was time. Trichomes were looking about where I wanted them. Next time will start flush sooner. Hope a 7 day flush was enough!
Will post updates once drying/curing complete. I got some Grove Bags for curing. We'll see!
*********
8/26/2021 - alright, so she dried pretty quick. just over 2oz which is where my estimate was upon seeing the 9.91 wet weight. Hopefully these Grovebags do what theyre meant to do, and provide a carefree curing process! I've already sampled some of it, and I'm glad I harvested when I did. Very distinguished head effects, didnt make me tired. I can tell because I use pretty regularly, and I tried this mid-day after smoking already and still got lifted. Hit a point of almost paranoia off 2 bowls which is something unheard of for me. Will come back for the final taste test in a few weeks!
