Really excited to get the first 2 Mephisto beans in the Jiffy pods. I let them expand, pulled the top netting a little for better expansion and then broke the top bit of it up before placing the seeds in and covering gently. Put them in a 2x2x4 tent with the dome on and sitting on a heating bad for overnight. Will take them off the pad in the morning when I burp so that they don't get overly hot.
Germ day 1-Hygrometer said temp on the pad was about 90 so I took them off that, shut that off and put the dome back on. Humidity was looking good and I will burp again sometime after lunch and then around 10pm tonight.
Took about 4 days to push above but they took off after that. 6/28 Will be day 1
**I'm looking to apply a number of changes from my first grow to this run: 5 gallon Smart pots over 3gal plastic, I'm going to do an expanded clay liner in the bottom for base aeration and then I'm looking at using a living soil that will hopefully be a little more forgiving of newbie mistakes. I'm currently researching Coast of Maine and Great Lakes Water Only soils so if anyone has any experience please feel free to comment or message. Hydro store sold out of GLWO so decided to go with CocoLoco again this time doing a 20% mix with Perlite.
It took about 3 days to push the surface and I had to provide a little assistance to the one on the right. After I moved the piece of peat that was too much for it it sprang right up and has looked great sense. As you can see on day 1 the left one had it's seed pod stuck. I gave it an extra 24 to try and shed it naturally and then assisted it in gently removing it. It came out with a slight discoloration on one of the cotyledons but nothing too bad.
Late night Day 2/Early AM day 3 both had extended their roots out of the pod and were ready for soil. I was doing my best to wait on the hydro store to get Great Lakes Water only back in as I wanted to try that and a natural silica product they recommended but I couldn't wait. Did my own blend of CocoLoco and Perlite at about 80/20 mix and also lined the bottom of the fabric pots with Hydroton clay pebbles for extra stability and aeration at the base. This time around I am using a riser sat inside an overrun tray to hold them. SUPER tight in the 2x2 so hoping drying finishes up in the big tent this weekend.
Week 2 Mon- was July 4th so this is officially Freedom weed in my mind. So she went through a crazy growth spurt and unfortunately my Monday 4pm photo is corrupted so my side by side is shot. They more than doubled in size in a single day, checking on them every couple hours was almost like watching a time-lapse video. Monday evening watered another ~60-70ml PH 6.7 water w/ .5ml/l Rhinoskin. Local hydro store had a deal on the small bottle and I have seen a lot of folks heavily recommending adding a silica product in the early phases. I'm hoping with that and training I get a more robust stalk and stem situation this time around. --I did mess up and use .5 instead of .25 recommended from FastBuds which I am using as a reference. They do not seem to mind at all and drank pretty heavily.
Tues-
This week was pretty low key. They seemed a little thirstier so upped the water intake a bit. Following Rhinoskin feeding suggestions from FB as a base. They seem to really be liking it so far, each new addition of stem is getting thicker. Had a bunch of other details in here but somehow none of my posts updates published so I'm just going with what loaded on the restore attempt!
Big week! I did my first LSTing on B in the middle of the week and then started A before adjusting B down to it's final spot at the end of the week. B was so thick that I was worried about bending it all the way down so I went partially and then slowly lowered her day by day until it was where I wanted it. I'm interested to see how this plays out and really hoping I didn't do anything too terrible and stunt them. Thus far they have seemed pretty robust and able to swing with the punches. I have been following the plant signaling this week with both light height and water. Around 16-17" seems to be where both of these gals like the light and they are praising the sun pretty constantly. Once they droop a bit I have been watering up to 1ml/l Rhinoskin and between 6.5-6.8PH. End of the week Flowering kicked off and this whole week was one of explosive growth.
Flwoering is in full swing. Worked on some additional LST overall plant color looks to be lightening up. Light to almost 80% and slowly still working up. Might slow the light power up for a few days. There was more here once again but that is all that loaded. I had a day where I was questionable on watering and feel like I might have over watered. I watered with recharge and then started bloom nutes late in the week.
