So I was hoping to move these guys outside soon into 5 gallon pots in my garden. I know marijuana can be pretty hardy, but I was looking at the extended forecast and it's still dipping down into the mid-high 40's F at night. What temp range can I safely move them outside?

Hi there! Strong genetics can handle cold temperatures, as low as 50°F (10°C). Anything below will hurt the plant's tissues. However, 50°F is still under the optimal range, and may result in slow growth and bad photosynthesis, so you probably should wait another week or more depending on your local forecast. I'll be around, keep us up-to-date and good luck!

Big girls were transplanted to 5 gallon pots last night with Fox Farm soil because I couldn't get my compost right. Still waiting on the weather, tomorrow night is supposed to get down to 49F, but after that I should be golden. It's a PITA lugging these in and out every morning and night.

Tomorrow these ladies are going out into the big garden! They're topped off with a little extra soil, and well supported with larger stakes. *Update: Saturday night everyone stayed in the smaller perennial garden by the house. I'm thinking I might leave them there for now. That way I can keep a closer eye on them and continue watering with our well water, vs the stream out back which I believe is high in iron (and who else knows what). The only drawback is that the fence is lower in the perennial garden vs the annual one out back. Hopefully the deer don't get brave, hop the fence and eat my babies. 7/2- Leaf inspection found growth shoots had turned Brown and curling on some. Thinking potential lockout and Boron deficiency. We got a lot of rain 6/29-6/30 so thinking thats a factor. Holding off on nutes for a bit.

At the end of last week we had some torrential rain. Around Monday I noticed that the new growth on these ladies was turning brown and withering. I freaked out! I had no idea what was going on. Luckily I have a dear friend who is a professional. He figured out that it was a lockout/Boron deficiency (which I would have never figured out on my own). He advised me not to feed this week and around Thursday I noticed that they seemed to be pushing through. Critical cure bounced back the best out of these ladies, with the Charlotte's Angel a close second. They were very resilient. The Critical Mass however, faired the worst in this situation. It really took a beating. I also decided to add some clover as sort of a cover crop to these ones and see how it goes. Clover is supposed to regulate nitrogen pretty well and may provide a buffer to any more hard rain we get this summer. It also got down to 52F last night so I played it safe and lugged all of these ladies in the barn. What a pain! I really need a greenhouse!

Decent growth this week. They're pushing though the lockout but the damage has been done. Had to give some of these girls a bit of a haircut. The Critical Mass needed some pruning because there was so much leaf damage. Same thing with the Duga Mata. But the Critical Cure's are still my shining stars. Larger Charlotte's Angel is taco-ing on me, I told her it wasn't Tuesday.

Solid 8 inches this week! Girls are happy😊 Critical mass is bouncing back after a bit of a haircut last week. Everyone's leaves were looking a little dull earlier in the week, so I mixed up a little homemade Nitrogen spray and sprayed the leaves. They loved it! Charlotte's Angel was Tacoing on me last week and I knew she needed some Calcium, so I put some DE with Calcium Bentonite around her base and that seems to have done the trick. I have a small greenhouse that I ordered which should arrive Monday. I am very excited about the upcoming weeks when these girls switch over to flowering. I'm hoping to get some decent medicine. We'll see!

Solid 10 inches of growth this week. Ladies were top dressed with more soil on Thursday night. Also game them a cal-mag boost with some Earth Pods back on Monday. The larger ladies are staying out in the garden, but the more finicky Critical Mass and Charlotte's Angel's are in the small greenhouse.

Well it's been an interesting week. The Charlotte's Angel and Critical Mass that I had in the greenhouse got too hot and dried out. We've had a couple of really hot a humid days here. I moved them back out and rehydrated them, but the damage was done. The Critical Cures are showing a little Phosphorus deficiency with some of the younger leaves turning purple. I'm going to start on my Fox Farm Blossom Builder tonight.

Well, my lesson has been learned. I really should have used larger fabric pots. I mean when they showed up I looked at them and said "Really? These are 5 gallons?" (They looked more like 3...) I'm having to water 2x a day sometimes. I came home yesterday to one of my Critical Cures on the ground because it had gotten dry and top heavy, so it blew over in the wind. Last week I had some nitrogen deficiency but I fed them with the Grow Big and they came around. Now I just have a little bit of Boron Deficiency on the larger Critical Cure. *Saturday afternoon- Changing up my watering. I took my 70 qt muck tub and put 10 gal of water in it. I put each of the girls in it one at a time and let them soak for a bit. Hopefully this will be better for them and give them a more thorough watering so they won't dry out so fast.

Stellar week for the Critical Girls. The others are still lagging behind a bit, I wish they'd get their act together. Some are showing a little nitrogen deficiency, so I'll give them a foliar spray tomorrow. I also flushed them with some sledgehammer back on Thursday because one of the Critical Cures and the Blue Shark was showing a little Boron lockout.

Everyone has been moved out back. I was worried people would smell them from the road, and possibly peek in and find them. Won't be long for both Critical strains, they are filling out well. Durga Mata and Charlotte's are not far behind. But the damn Blue Shark is being stubborn. She'd better get her act together, because it's getting cold at night! I will stake them this weekend. Tried pushing bamboo in on my own, but the soil out back is so hard from all the clay I'm going to need the wrecking bar. Sunday- Most of the photos I took were from Wednesday evening. But I just went out back and really looked at them, and the Critical Cures have frosted up! With the colder nights we've been getting, they're turning purple on some of the leaves and pistils and it's so pretty! I am beyond thrilled 😍

Things are getting frosty around here! Critical Cures are at the top of the class. Critical Mass is in second. Charlotte's Angels are in third. Durga Mata is in fourth, with Blue Shark rounding out the pack as far as blooms are concerned, and how far along they are. This week I used the last of my "Tiger Bloom" and "Big Bloom" and I didn't feel like buying more, so I started making compost tea! It comes from my pile that consists of kitchen scraps, horse, chicken and sheep manure. They seem to be liking it. I also gave them a little nitrogen foliar spray this morning. I've had to spray insecticidal soap twice this week. Smells so fragrant out there, it's attracting a lot of bugs. I sent a pic of one of the Critical Cure's to a friend of mine saying "Not long now!" (As in like 3-4 weeks on this particular plant) to which he replied: "You've still got 6-7 weeks!" No, just no. Same guy also told me my plants would be 8 ft high. Ha! Silly boys.

So the bigger Critical Cure was showing signs of a Cal/Phos issue, therefore I gave everyone a bit of Lime a couple days ago. That seems to have halted the issue, but the damage was done. Just a couple more weeks on the Criticals. Also released some ladybugs to control the Aphid population yesteday. We got quite a bit of rain on Tuesday so I did spray with some copper fungicide, just in case.

Excellent strain for nighttime medical use. Susceptible to mold and can be finicky, but can produce large yields if conditions are right. Excellent trichome production. A good relaxing and uplifting strain. Smells of licorice and anise. Perfect for watching comedy.

I was expecting a lot from these plants, but they didn't quite measure up. Had to cut down early due to mold issues and had several caterpillars that had moved in. I also had issues with them showing deficiencies, when I was feeding them the same as other plants. Cut down 1st one on 9/22 due to mold, which will be used for topicals since it wasn't quite ready. Second plant came down on 9/29. Will add more once finished drying, hopefully the quality will make up for the trouble! 10/7- Sampled last night via vaporization. I love the flavor. Earthy, but sweet. Did a good job easing the muscle spasm in my hip. I was relaxed and talkative. Had no problem going to sleep. 10/14- Made a salve last week with the smaller plant that I harvested early. Decarbed 15 grams and mixed with 1 cup of coconut oil, 1 tbsp of sunflower lechitin, 1/3 cup of my own beeswax, 1/3 cup avocado oil and about a 1/4 cup of cocoa butter. Infused on the stovetop over low heat with Lavender and Calendula.

Great strain for nighttime use. Sedative yet creative. I enjoy watching movies with this strain. If it's a movie you've already seen, you enjoy it on a much deeper level (especially sci-fi and fantasy). Rich in Myrcene and Caryophyllene. Smells like Cloves and Allspice. Great for sleep tincture.

I personally love this strain, but growing it was somewhat difficult. This strain is susceptible to mold and yields were affected. Harvested 9/29. Very spicy smelling strain rich in Pinene, Myrcene and Humelene. Smells like cloves and allspice. 10/14- Decarbed 16 grams this morning and mixed it with some Chamomile, Lavender, Catnip and Lemon Balm in 3/4 cup of local moonshine. Currently sitting in the cabinet and turning into a sleep tincture.

Good quality strain. Good disease resistance. Short, hassle free, had 0 issues with this plant! Harvested 9/30. Will add numbers and effect later. 10/14- So this past week I caught a stomach bug that was going around. I was throwing up, had diarrhea and a headache. I came home from work and vaped this and it eliminated my nausea and helped my headache. I would have been praying to the porcelain Gods for the rest of the day without this strain. I'm planning on making some cold and flu remedies with it. I was thinking of infusing it with some local honey first, and possibly making some cough drops from that with some slippery elm, horehound, echinacea, marshmallow and elderberries.

This strain was very easy to grow. Displayed 2 phenotypes. One plant was shorter and bushier, that didn't put out many pistils but had lots of swollen calyxes. Larger plant was leggier, and developed red veins and became quite beautiful in the cooler temps. Rich in Pinene and Limonene. Smelled of citrus and spruce when harvested, but after curing it has a lovely mint smell. Will give you a clear headed sense of well-being.

Very easy strain. Good disease resistance, but should be supported. Displayed 2 phenotypes. One was shorter, with less pistils but more swollen calyxes. The taller of the 2 had lots of pistils and the fan leaves had red veins, which I attribute to more of the "Red Charlotte" parent genetics. Harvested smaller plant on 9/27 and larger plant on 9/30. Will update more once dry. 10/14- Made an infusion with 16 grams of flower with 1 cup MCT oil and 1 tbsp liquid sunflower lechitin a week ago on the stovetop. I've been adding 1 tsp to my coffee every morning. Definitely helps negate caffeine jitters and helps me start my day.

She's almost there. Amber trichs are showing up. Had to take off one of the main colas back on Thursday due to mold, but I washed it and it's currently hanging. I think I'm going to harvest this girl on Tuesday. I was thinking of doing it today, but I remembered I have Tuesday off from work so i'll have the time to do it then. I think next weekend will be a little late, I'm still planning on using this for functional medicine. I love this strain for doing chores and housework. Makes me very upbeat with a can-do attitude. Planning on making an infusion of this with some Reishi, cat's Claw and Chamomile for Fibro.

Well guys, this Diary is pretty much a wrap. Thank you all for following along. Special thanks to @Mrs_Larimar, @Tonino, @Horantu and @Hufflepuff for your support, wisdom and guidance. And thanks to @Barneys for some quality seeds. Had I known a multiple strain diary would not be eligible for contests, I may have done things differently. But this has been quite a learning experience. See you around!

@Fibro_Witch, I’m lucky also that it’s legal here, and we’re developing a cannabis centric show that is neither entirely pro nor against. We discuss sensible cannabis use, whether for the treatment of pain and illness, or recreational. We entertain and keep it funny, but the important issues must be discussed. When we are fully up I will let you know. I’m writing episodes and lining up guests now. If interested search The Toking Heads on podomatic. Listen in reverse order is better. If you like what you hear maybe you’d agree to be a phone in guest sometime. Best wishes growing your meds - Doc

@growdoctordc, Thank you. Unfortunately, there are many people in power unwilling to accept the fact that this is a medicinal plant because it does not support their agenda. I am lucky enough to live in a state where we voted to legalize, but due to a conservative governor, our recreational sales have been stalled, and I have not sought out a Medical Card due to some of the caveats that come with it. So here I am, growing away!

I have 2 of them going. Right now they're in pint-size pots. One is 13 inches, the other is 7. The one that's 7" I wouldn't say I've had a hard time with, I think she just got low end on the totem pole for light, and was shut out a little by the other plants. She's short, but strong. They're doing much better than Charlotte's Web. I tried germing 6 of those. Only 2 sprouted and then promptly died. Apparently, the genetics are horrible on those. A friend of mine has a nursery and did 1,000 seeds and only 96 germed!

@Jaindoh, I would be too. Luckily my friend gave me some of his seeds. He hates them, but his medical customers want it. He says the genetics are S**t on them. I told him I would let him know how the Charlotte's Angel goes, because he would probably have better luck with them. Dutch Passion usually puts out quality, and I don't think I'll be disappointed with these :)

@Fibro_Witch, oh man id be pissed at whoever i bought them from at this point, the only reason i've ever had difficulties like that was always cold and moisture =( here's hoping for better luck in the future =)

@Jaindoh, They have a heat mat set at 73 degrees in front of a south-facing window. I was also supplementing with an LED lamp previously. They are currently getting plenty of sun and they are warm enough. This comment was supposed to be a reply @Maria about Charlotte's Angel, it got messed up. The mobile version of this site is a PITA.

Curious to see if you have anything gathered so far about specific strains. Personally, I'm looking for anti-muscle spasms, nerve pain, uplifting energy, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant. Even other symptoms are relevant, however. So far I have Nirvana Lithium OG Kush for uplifting anti-depressant with anti-anxiety. The Royal Queen Medical Mass is one of the only ones I've had with more than moderate muscle spasm or nerve pain effect. No-name 4:1 co2 extract had some of the best muscle spasm relief I've ever had, probably Cannatonic. I know fibro is different for everyone, I have the myofascial pain type with hypersensitivity to pressure and tension, other people have different symptooms. Past that, cannabi effects are both very subjective, and very difficult to isolate any type of specific effect past placebo and confirmation bias. I have just been trying to reach out to people to build some sort of picture about this aspect. Trying to build a mother collection =)

@Jaindoh and @Fibro_Witch -- if you are interested in CBD:THC around 2:1, then Dinafem Industrial Plant CBD Auto is a great option. Mine present one is just about to harvest, thick yields on her.
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, See I can't do the high THC varieties, it triggers my anxiety. 1:1 THC:CBD is my threshold. I'm going to be trying some CBD hemp flowers that I just ordered, Berry Exotic and AC Diesel. I'm hoping those will tide me over until I harvest these plants.

You might be able to get a bunch of pvc, regular sched 40 would work but outdoor is better, some wide width clear tarp, and make little shelters or even a greenhouse on the cheap. pvc cutters are like 8 bux. just make sure to stake them down good at the minimum. havent done it yet but its my plan for regular veggies next year
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, That's a good idea. Planning on getting a greenhouse soon. Will be essential for later in the season after they flower out because I don't want to have a mold issue. Happened to one of my friends last year. My hope is that the clover spreads out as a living mulch and prevents another water lockout from happening.

So, I was reading some other diaries, and a lot in other forums, about a technique called bud washing. Have you ever tried it? My understanding is that a lot of outdoor growers swear by it. I'd never heard of it until about 4 hours ago, and I figured I'd ask someone with expirence in the area of outdoor growing.
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented6 years ago
@Horantu, I'll be curious to know what your thoughts are after taste testing. I know that the smaller Charlotte's Angel that I cut down last Thursday is ready to cure, that's going to be my project tonight. I have some 62% RH Boveda humidity packs for curing that I'm very glad I got 😊
Horantu
Horantucommented6 years ago
@Fibro_Witch, mine are currently starting their cure. They dried about 24 hrs faster than the others I didn't wash, and look much cleaner to boot. I Figured it would be good to have a control group so I kept some off to the side that I didn't wash. I'll do a taste test this weekend.

@Horantu, thank you so much for that recommendation. Ifeel much better about the stuff that was washed, and there was a decent amount of debris that came out.

@Fibro_Witch Nice! Won't be long now eh? I've taken a couple clones from my current grow and you've inspired me to try them both outdoors during the southern hemisphere summer :)

Looks very nice, you just convinced me of Durga Mata II as I am looking for a nice indica 1:1 for sleeping. One question, do you remember how tall the plant became outdoors more or less? Just need to plan a bit ahead. Thanks!

@Tatanka420, I want to say it was around 140-150cm tall. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions👍

Hi Fibro Witch. Now that it's been 6 months, would you be so kind to give us a smoke report on the Charlotte's Angel? I am growing It for the first time to help with anxiety and racing thoughts. I would greatly appreciate it if you could elaborate a little on the effects-dosages etc. Thanks in advance!
Lucimago
Lucimagocommented6 years ago
@Fibro_Witch, Thanks that makes sense. I have been reading about the synergy between THC and CBD and its effectivity. Still should make a decent day vape I think :)
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented6 years ago
@@Lucimago, I did not grow this strain primarily for smoking. I grew it for topicals and edibles. For my anxiety and chronic pain issues I prefer to use my 1:1 ratio strains because they're more effective for me personally. I may have vaped this maybe once. From what I recall it was just nice. Citrusy mint flavor. It gave me a warm feeling in my chest, a little relaxing but no other real noticeable effects. It's just gentle.

That's awesome about the tea! I'm jelly. My wife and I live in an apt, so access to manure isn't an option for me, without purchasing it. We do compost though, and I was wondering, how do I determine what my plants are taking in in terms of absorbable solids and how would it react to other nutrients?
Tonino
Toninocommented6 years ago
@Horantu,well one is for sure is you have a good rizobacteria colony and a good amount of mycorrhiza fungus they will absorb more organic nutriments
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented6 years ago
@Horantu, That's good you compost. I don't know that there is really any way to determine unless you test it. I guess I'm just sort of more winging it than adhering to an exact science (This is, after all, and outdoor grow). I think the main concern is if you're using compost that hasn't degraded enough then you may bring in harmful bacteria. But I've been taking from the bottom of the pile, stuff that fully degraded, and the girls seem to like it. I figure I'm giving them a good, broad spectrum of nutes, and I'm straining it well. The only nutes I'm using besides this are Fox Farm Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching. That and they're getting flushed with Sledgehammer 1x a week.😏

Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented6 years ago
@Tonino, It smells so sweet out there, almost sickeningly so! I can't wait! I just got some high proof Moonshine off one of my neighbors (He makes it himself) so I can make different tinctures. I've been doing a lot of research into terpenes for the strains I'm growing. I want to combine herbs that have the same naturally occuring terpenes with specific strains in the hopes that it will strengthen the medicinal benefits.
