Since this is my first time growing, I don't have much to compare it to. But what I can say is that the success of this grow is almost solely attributed to the Grow Diary platform. I was able to see how certain factors/techniques yield different results, how to manage/avoid difficulties, what problems to avoid, and how to resolve problems. I've recommended this platform to all my friends and neighbours that are new to growing since it makes the process a hundred times more easier and enjoyable.

Can't say enough good things about the pH Perfect line from Advanced Nutrients. Saved me a lot of time and money considering I didn't need to purchase a pH stick and continuously measure the levels before each feed. Being a first time grower this made things especially easy.

The last few weeks of the grow I encountered some unavoidable difficulties such as extremely humid weather, lots of rain, and overcast. This was resulted in some bud rot which was unfortunate, but it happens. Overall I learned a lot throughout the process and I'm super happy with the outcome. The LST at the beginning was a bit nerve racking since I wasn't entirely sure how to manipulate the plant -- I only learned this by looking at what others were doing on the Grow Diary platform and having all my questions answered. Had I not done this LST/topping technique it probably would have grown so tall that it wouldn't have been ideal for the backyard, neighbours could already smell it, but the fact I had basically turned it into a bush prevented them from really seeing it. Overall I think it went great and looking forward to the next one! Thanks GD.

Grow Questions

Any idea why the leaves are curling inwards like they are in the last two photos? Is this because it's too hot, or am I giving it too much water? Should my fan be blowing on the plant itself, or the 150-watt light? Thanks.

With the heat we got in Ontario it is just that. Too much light and heat. Try finding some shade for them. That said its all cool and rainy so you should be good. I wouldnt worry too much (mine are doing the same).

Thanks man. I've never done this before but I've watched several friends grow backyard/indoor stuff over the years so it's a bit of trial and error for me. The pictures don't do her justice, there's a good 10 colas on her, I'll try to get some better pics.

She’s lookn awesome dude - good for you, she’s gonna bud fierce me thinks! 💪

@Ontario, actually mine’s an experimental outdoor grow and she’s getting only water. The medium is 50/50 promix and regular compost with an addition of about 30-40% perlite. No nutrients at all. The idea was to train her in a circle and #1 expose more bud sites to direct sun, #2 hope that some of the branch buds came up as full on colas. I’ve had good success with this on indoor auto grows but first try outside. As far as the stem is concerned, that’s what you would’ve gotten if you hadn’t topped ur plant And broken it’s apical dominance. You’ve managed to successfully top your auto (Koodos for that alone dude!) so my guess is that while your giving up some stem size and strength, I think you can and should expect a larger yield when flowering really kicks in. Just remember to keep her supported if the extra colas start to get huge. I’ve been following your grow closely and can’t wait to compare final yields! (I still have one of these babies in the seed bag for another try 😉 later). Cheers

@TheBudWhisperer, Thanks man! I'm hoping for the exact same thing! Wishing I had trunks like your Cheese XXL though, mine are like half the size. What are you giving her??

you are giving to much water stop for a day or 3 en wait until the soil is dry then you will see that the leafs are going to be good

@dailygrower, Agreed. Looking like it's too much water and nutrient burn. Keep us updated though.

If you have spider mites, get them sorted quickly with neem oil or predator mites, probably the former as you're outdoors and not in a very controllable closed environment like a tent..

Ontariocommented7 years ago
@ShaggyGrower, Hey thanks man I'm going to look into those ASAP! Appreciate the help.

Hey dude, have you had a look at the symptoms of russet mites? Leaves tacos and strange bite marks all over the leaves if they appear “scaly” could be down to mites. When growing outside, always have a preventative measures always use neem oil soil and morning spray in veg, also a 2” layer of perlite or sand on top of the soil to keep nastys from laying eggs in the soil. Neem oil should be used from the start of the plants life so that you build up a protective layer so that when pests strike, they cannot reproduce or survive very long.✌️🏻

PharmaZcommented6 years ago
@Ontario, def put a layer of sand or perlite on top of your soil. Thrips nymphs burrow into the soil and emerge as the winged form. You can kill the ones that are already in your soil by using H202 and the sand or perlite layer on top will prevent anymore getting in there. Sounds like you live in a bit of a pest hotspot brother. Maybe try inside next grow? Much safer....
Ontario
Ontariocommented6 years ago
@PharmaZ, Hey PharmaZ! Yes fortunately it's not russet mites, this is whiteflies and thrips. Sorry for not being too detailed, I'll upload more pictures of what the bites look like. I wish we had Neem Oil in Canada but it's banned here from what I've been told. Perlite could help because I wouldn't be surprised if these pests were living in the soil. Thanks for the help!

@ChillumMafia, Yeah my update was a bit late sorry! I transplanted it into a 10 gal smart pot earlier in the week. Would have done it earlier but the weather hasn't been ideal.

Great structure and ready to show the world what she can do :) The flower stage is coming and by the sound of things your ontop of the pest issue which is always a challenge with any outdoor grow :) She's looking good and once flower hits you will really see what she can do :) Thank you for the outdoor update mate I'll drop back in on the next ;) All the best Mark..
