Hello and welcome to my journal and first ever cannabis growing experience! I decided to go with the shot glass method for germination. I soaked two seeds for around 20 hours until they sank. For fear of drowning the seeds I then transferred them to finish germinating in a moist paper towel on a covered plate with a heating pad. When the seeds cracked I put them in their pots.
First week was a success! I threw down some cover crop seed along with my germinated seeds to activate my soil and get the ball rolling. I also added some soil soliders (worms) to each 5 gallon pot. About 10 in each. For awhile during the first week I thought Ms. Beta didn't germinate but later found her fighting through the explosive cover crop to get some light. She's a survivor :P
This week we started feeding them some microbe tea and SLF-100. The tea is served on Tuesday and whatever is left over with a bit of the SLF is added at the end of the week. Been feeding each plant under half a gallon for each feed. Usually it's around .3 of a gallon. I also raised the light to 12" above them and added a beneficial fungus bucket that generates CO2 in the tent. They seemed to respond very well to it. Also decided to add some straw as a mulching on top.
Welp, I think they are doing their thang. I added 1/3 cup of bokashi and 1.5 tbsp of the Aurora innovations terp tea roots as a top dress (wanted to see how the plants took it as a top dress vs. Tea) got a 8" oscillating fan to go in my tent. Seems to be too close to plants so I'll have to readjust it. *note to self, spread top dressing more evenly. Do not let it clump.* I think the effects are similar in top dressing and brewing the terp roots component. Will have to test this theory later on.
Goal this week was to do some MINOR low stress training. I bent back a few of the fan leaves into itself to be held by other branches. Being my first time I want to see the plants as natural as possible. In doing so I can compare what they look like in nature with minimal maintenance vs. Methods to make them do what I want. Being that they are autos I feel like little maintenance might be required to insure decent yield but we will see.
This week I've decided to flip to flower on a 20 on and a 4 off cycle. I could let them veg for longer but considering I'm using a 3x3x6 tent I dont want to end up running out of space. I'm flipping to flower because Ms. Alpha looks ready for it. Signs of sex have showed and she has got her fuzzy tops. Mr. Beta looks to be just behind so rather than vegging longer I wanted to see the effects of flipping her to flower early or right on time?
Either way i feel there is a difference in development between the two. Ms. Alpha is low maintenance and wants to stretch. Decent amount of nodes. I have high hopes for her. Ms. Beta is bushy and stubby. A lot more leaves than her counterpart but I'm interested to see in her progression.
As far as feed, I ended up brewing a roots and recharge microbial tea, because orginially I had planned to keep them in veg but after a day I changed my mind. So I used the brewed tea mixed with some build a bloom from buildasoil. And continued to finish off the week will the brew, the bloom, and at the end of the week with some SLF. The quillaja goes into every feeding as it is a natural wetting agent/thickener and helps evenly disperse.
I defoliated about 10 leaves from each plant. Will continue to lookout for suckers and remove anything else that might be a nuisance.
Plants are doing their thang. Ms. Alpha is really stretching. Ms. Beta is straggling along. Might have an underwatering issue with her. She also managed to get some light burn due to me doing a foliar spray and not turning down the light 🤦♂️. No brew this week. Just some bokashi top dress and blasting with some build a bloom.
I believe the issue with Ms. Beta has been underwatering. She has been a greedy feeder compared to her sister and also is more sensitive to the light which might be contributing to her slow grow. I've noticed some discoloration on her leaves. Can't tell if its light burn or a deficiency. See if I can correct it in time.
All I've done this week is keeping blasting with build a bloom. Brewed a microbe recharge tea. Did some minor defoliation. And I'll be taking a break on supplement feeding this coming week and they will just get some water and a top dress. Give em a little break from the nuking lol.
The terpene profile is starting to present itself more. It's like a sweet cream icing in a pine forest. Quite lovely.
This week we took kinda a break from heavy feeds. Decided to top dress with a small dose of calmag around 4 tsps, a little under half the recommended dose. Top dressed with 1/3 cup of bokashi. Water only for the whole week. Finish the week with a splash of the SLF in some H20. Gave Ms. Beta another haircut and took a few lower fan leaves/suckers off Ms. Alpha.
Week 8 has been going well for Ms. Alpha. She's still going strong, getting more frost and producing that terpene profile. Keeping the humidity below 40% for her. Ms. Beta is still giving me difficulties. Has yellowing leaves with rust spots on the new growth and I havent been able to rectify the problem completely. I think I've narrowed it down to a Mg deficiency. The lower leaves look fine which tells me it's an immobile nutrient problem. Some research has also pointed to too low of P could be causing the issue. Her growth is a little stunted but her buds are getting bigger. Next week we will top dress her with some calmag and try feeding heavy on things rich in P and see what happens. 🤙
Also a note for those who like to brew microbe teas....don't brew in your house unless you want a disgusting mess to potentially clean up. Learned that the hard way this week 🤣
