Oct 19th I selected the Largest seed provided by OLD SCHOOL BREEDERS ASSOCIATION; www.oldschoolba.com, of the high THC Black Willie strain, from “Reeferman Genetics” The famous Willie Nelson strain, has been bred back into the Rare landrace black Vietnamese strain, for further improvements and gains. With a couple of batches in progress, and both Tents in Flower right now…, BW is going to get a short-ride, and its going to be 12/12 lighting the week after Germination. Its kind of a patchwork grow, but I really do want to see how this Bud will present itself - Cannot find a single strain review, time to set something in motion. First of many BW’s is the wish. Will keep you posted… Cheers Gang, here we go... DESCRIPTION of BLACK WILLIE (Vietnam Black x Willie Nelson) Willie Nelson won the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2005 for Best Sativa. Willie Nelson is a cross that involved Vietnamese Black. A very exotic and rare Sativa lineage. When Willie Nelson is crossed back to the Vietnamese Black all the desirable traits of the original cross are retained. However, with a higher more amplified sense of euphoria, a signature quality of the original Willie Nelson. While this strain can be classified as an “Exotic Sativa”, it’s easier to grow than most plants in this class and offers respectable yields in a reasonable amount of time. A plus with stretchy and longer flowering Sativas such as this, is that little if any, time is required for vegetative growth once plants are established. Lots of space for the limbs and roots are recommended for maximum results. Staking or trellising may be required to support dense colas at maturity on longer limbs. When mature, towers of large resin coated calyxes protrude from the elongated buds with minimal foliage. Buds glow due to their thick resin carpeting. Yes, by the way it’s true, Willie Nelson really is Willie’s favorite strain. You almost sure to see some Willie phenos in a regular pack, but you can also select for something even a little more exotic with this one! A really, up, up, up kind of variety-little or no ceiling to the buzz; the more you smoke, the more intense it gets. While not an ideal candidate for Sea Of Green applications, Black Willie is highly adaptable to Screen Of Green (ScROG)/trellised applications. Recommended for patients with glaucoma, migraines, depression or just feeling good with no slowing you down. Breeders Notes: Black Willie THC strain is a sativa dominate variety (The Legendary Willie Nelson x Vietnam black) The Black Willie high THC phenotype is a real knock-out ✊ contender. It has the the defined Genetics of the Willie Nelson. Crossed back to the single male survivor of the Vietnam Black. This male was a sole survivor of 10 seeds. That were sent back to us from Florida. A die hard Reeferman Genetics fan. Who had saved 10 seeds he had purchased many years back sent the seeds back without protection. We thank him for getting them back in any condition. But unfortunately This caused most all but 3 seeds to be crushed. Of the 3, one made it to be mature. This was an astounding male that showed of glistening trichomes at the end of its bloom cycle. We luckily used this male to create the BLACK WILLY THC strain. Many users can tell you this strain is a winner. This strain is the only strain to “HOLD BOTH A THC CUP AND CBD CANNABIS CUP”. A 8-10 week flower time with a tremendous yield and spicy earthy taste. Makes you see why this strain won both cups hands down. From a Jamaican Island healing helpful THC and CBD effect of the CBD strain version. To a well developed Oldschoolba uplifting and cancer fighting CBD-THC high. There is no doubt why IT has been awarded a full spectrum of cups! The Yield may vary due to growing conditions: med – heavy Flower time : 8-10 weeks or the End of October. “Thc black willie” 15 -21% thc on average with the high thc version Thats where it starts… Oct 23rd -no tail yet… 2nd B.W. seed dropped in water to help cover my ass ** 26th, after stalling for 2 days with only a cracked Shell, BW has extended the Tail and we are off and running. Planted in Soil this Morning ( this is the one that dies ) 27th a.m. - the B.W. insurance-seed that was moistened “just in case…” did a great job and pushed out a 1” tail overnite; my kinda seed. So it was also planted in a cup this morning !! - both Watered and the Human is a bit relieved 28th - Noticed at Lites-out, that the cover-my-ass seed, seems to have done just that ha. Put in water a full 3 days after the other one, it has broken ground first !! 29th - both B.W. seeds have broken ground. - 2 cups of water in a circle around the Original… and a moistening for the Solo cup. ** fyi, the idea of this Circle watering, is to establish a column of water within the pot. It helps get roots down to the bottom of the growing media. Good starting info, gets you one month-in and then you can take it where you wish. Oct 30th - as it turns out, the original seed shrivelled up over nite and is done! So seed no2 rules and will be transplanted in a couple days to the 26L pot. Oct 31st - BW #2 was moistened… and transferred to a bigger pot. Nov 1st - BW looks strong this morning and will start a watering sched tomorrow pm. Its had water thrown at it in a cup and was transferred real early. Give it a moment to catch her breath. - foliar mist applied to help feed the plant, while the roots take hold Nov 2 - Last day of Germ, shit gets real pretty soon m’aam - fed 2 cups of water

November 3rd 2021 - Black Willie is solidly taking root and extending the single serrated leaves. Here we go Nov 4th - fed 2 cups of water 💦 Nov 5th - she is off and running, next watering there will be nutes involved. Bring it on - scratching a tbsp of Kelp Meal into the Soils surface Nov 6th - 3 cups of water fed to the newbie, through the kelp meal Nov 9th - last day of week 1 - Fed 3 cups of ph’d water, nutes - height of the Iight is Not in the seedlings favour the last week, or the next 2 lol, as the LemonPie auto finishes its run. Then the Lite drops, that will make a big difference

Nov 10th - part of the daily routine is misting fulvic acid at lites-out (when possible) - fed yesterday a.m., on the 12th she moves up to a Litre of Notes - going to keep it real simple the next few weeks; begin Foliar Misting routine, methodically increase nutrient volumes and Green Planet nutes involved, soil amendment planned for next week and increasing the light strength gradually - comfy with these 7gal / 26L flex pots. Might have found the perfect “Tweener” - going to make the move over to Fish Shit, from RapidStart for both of the photo-periods in this Tent… Organically driven, (that sold me) can anybody comment on using F.S. Pros or Cons - consider it a daily event at this step, misting fulvic acid onto the plant in a foliar application. It stops 3 weeks into flower. daily, as close to lights out as possible Nov 14th - fed 1.25L of H2o /Nutes Nov 15th - FYI speaking of roots, Black Willie is an updated version of the Famous Willie Nelson strain. This original Willie Nelson strain featured a black vietnamese landrace strain and Willie’s secret strain. BLACK WILLIE was made by crossing WNelson, back with the Original black vietnamese. From the looks of Reeferman Genetics, its a hugely successful Landrace hybrid !!!! - Ha, Nothing to do with genitals. Cheers Nov 16th -last day of week 2

Nov 17th - start of week 3. looking solid as the 4th node is being completed ✔️ - Molasses in tonights meal; 1.5L. Menu above - arghhh, just found half the Blue lights in my LED are not working... Nov 19th - committed to some HST for bWillie later this week. Keeping up with the Kush's of the world... - gonna shuffle the lite/plants a bit in the tent, see if I cannot get a bit more on the kids. my kinda tweak Nov 20th - fed 1.75L H2o / Nutes - added 3 tbsp of Kelp Meal, scratched into the surface ahead of watering 💦 - Foliar Misting at Lites-out - last day of this week will see B.Willie gently folded-over between 3rd & 4th node (just like pine tar kush ) then treated as LST. Has left me with a predictable 45 degree 📐 on the main stem. Once the lower branches are pulled back out in front of the plant, they do make a full circle. - plant shaping is “needed” as Two plants are going to be sharing a 2’ tent Nov 22nd - alright ! Decisions are made, arriving tomorrow will be a new Mars Hydro TS1000 led light for the 2’ Tent, Baby. So many good articles and positive reviews on this newer technology, I’m in! Easy decision to make with my current scenario; cmh too hot, big led has 50% burned-out veg diodes, etc etc. i can breath easier and the plants will see the big benefits. Funny how things happen in real concentrated events. 3 weeks ago I had zero lite issues - seeing as I had committed to it… and the Light was just seconds from going out… this morning I gently folded Black Willie over @ just above the 3rd node; bent @ 90 degrees. (Not tied down) - Rezin to be added to tomorrow’s dinner. Menu posted above Nov 23rd -last day week 3 - fed 2L for breakfast h20 / nutes - applied some LST and the plant looks great. Added what seems to be an Inch of growth overnite along the main stem - installed a new Light into the small tent and Man o Man is it making a difference. My impaired 1200w blurple lite has had the biscuit; good riddance. Mars Hydro ts1000 absolutely fills this space with Lite; currently running nicely @75%. Plants are eating it up

Great growth on the branches, Willie is opening up. -driving the Humidity up, once Lemon Pie leaves the tent on Saturday a.m. Nov 30th, - last day of week 4 in Veg - foliar misting of course

Dec 1st, *** made the call last nite. Both plants go into Flower mode this weekend, with 36hrs of dark, starting Saturday morning. 12/12 cycle on Monday Dec 3rd - dinner delayed a day, due to pots feeling heavy for the 1st time. No Feeding tonight - in the dark now (11 am), until tomorrow ~ 8pm. close to 36hrs... Then into the Big Tent 12/12, middle of week 5 Dec 4 - marks the beginning of 12/12 light schedule - will start a nutritional transition tomorrow p.m., let the plants get used to the new home for a night. - Black Willie finds himself not quite in the scrog yet, but it has opened-up and has a solid structure Dec 5th - fed 2.75L water/nutes, as posted above

Dec 4th - lites-on in the big tent after 36hrs in the dark Dec 5th - fed 2.75L h2o/nutes Dec 8th - adding a couple of inches of “Living Soil” as a soil amendment to all plants in the tent. Ingredients are all Organic and beneficial components. Picture posted of ingredients - plant is really active and its nice to see it start pushing back. LST is proving an effective way to deal with new Close-knit growing on a daily basis. Willie is a solid stalky plant. - pulled a few Fan leaves off as they were starting to be awkward

Dec 11th - fed 3L h2o/nutes - removed nuisance leaves and a few Fans that were blocking light - re-Scrogged the Willie and it looks wonderful, and is now open Dec 13th - just an observation, but the FIMming that I carried-out on Nov 26th, has actually worked-out really well. I’ll take a few pictures tonight, but the added development at the Top of that plant is amazing, not-quite symmetrical, but it is going to be a huge bud-bonus in the long-run. Not as perfectly laid-out as the PTK, but the extra bud-sites have arrived, are detangled ha, and spreading out - here in week 2, I'm getting rid of the big leaves tonight. time to open-up the whole plant to the light Dec 14th - still looks like a mess first thing in the morning. The crown of this plant; FIMmed, is still working things out as each bud branch struggles for some independence. Dec 15th - held off on Dinner, awaiting a drier soil. Tonights a go

Dec 18th - Pistils have begun to pop-up everywhere on this plant the last few days. Dec 19th - fed 2.5L of h20/nutrients - hard structure to manipulate because the branches are full of foliage, tightly spaced and just bloody Rigid. But the Canopy has begun to separate the main Kolas somewhat. A successfully FIMmed main cola has produced a congested crown 👑, they are entwined in a mass that is slowly becoming defined… and untangled. Dec 22nd - making some sense of the main cola, its still just below the Scrog and is slowly becoming Untangled. FIM really created a tightly-spaced crown. (See pic) - Soil is officially dry, pH checks tonight - fed 2.5L as posted above - soil pH tested at 7 or just above. Dinner made at a pH of 6.1 to help bring it down and a couple of inches of Peat Moss were mixed into the soils surface, to also assist in bring the alkalinity down UNDER 7.0 Dec 25th, This plant is officially 1 week Younger than the PTK beside it. Somehow they have equalized in age. I’m going to Hold-off updating this specimen for 3 or 4 days. Its only a week but I’m going to get it back closer to its real age - did a gentle defoliation over the last week and I’ll be Tucking them for the next few and Let her have a bit of fun. - soil checks tonight for pH & moisture levels Dec 27th, - soil check this morning found a pocket in the soil with a pH of 5.5. - Soil is moist still ( in all the plants )

January 5th Jan 7th - fed 2.75L as posted above Plant is having a great week Jan 9 - soil amendment being added to the pots surface tonight - took control of the heater to finally allow for a cooler and more realistic nite-cycle. Pin-timer applied to temp controller output, causing intermittent heater operation during the plants night. Here in the peoples republic of ontario, we still have coooler basements in winter so it's an easy fit. Jan 11th,, - Big dinner tonight is geared towards measuring EC of run-off, dammit. Lol - Also its the biggest nutrient load to date, which seems to be good timing within this grow. Especially when a K and a P boost begin next week - lights are being lowered a bit - last day of week 10

Jan 12th - plant looks spectacular this morning. Buds seem chubbier and Leaf health is radiant and reaching upward - did Not measure EC in the run-off. not enough dinner was made. 3.5L per plant was fed with a minimal run-off. Try that again next time - tent environment just feels good 24c @ 60% rh. light is 19” away and 100%, night-time temp is 19c avg. - posted VPD chart for maximizing tent conditions Jan 13th - applied 4L of aerated Compost Tea instead of dinner - buds are shifting in colour, taking-on a yellowish tinge Jan 17th - dinner tonight; 3L -soil pH is above 7 slightly. Dinner prepared at 6.2 to help balance the substrates pH. Several meals needed - 1.5L pH’d water ran through plant first, then fed 3L dinner, menu above. This flow caused some Run-off, but not enough to properly measure EC value Jan 18th - last day of the week - some Organic soil amendments are being added tonight. Rose petals, fan leaves, tiny twigs, all dried - ends the week growing like Madd. Small sativa sugar leaves nearest the buds are shifting colours, becoming lighter as the buds rise. They r Rising

Jan 19th - buds are climbing up and stacking layers of goodness - start of a great week 20th - Allowing the soil to dry an xtra day - brewing a compost tea for tomorrow’s dinner. Then back on schedule - Running 2 A.C.T. feeds, staggered between heavy meals. Not onlybdoes it give the plant a EC break, but I hope it nourishes the soil enough that we see a flourish of activity next week… - first tea with bat guano. Resting the banana lol (see recipe on Pine Tar Kush, todays menu) 22nd - fed 4L of A. C. Tea and this plant was thirsty. B.W. goes through its meals a little quicker than PTK. Meals may become split here shortly. - Soil drains quicker is 1st obvious sign. Moisture meter confirms Jan 24th - buds are filling-up and gaining some real density and size - brewing a tea, as listed on Pine Tar Kush diary, for tomorrow. 2 in a row is a first. Water pH’d to 6.5 b4 adding ingredients. With ingredients and bubbling; tds is 385ppm; 25th @ noon its 750ppm 25th - last day of week 7 in Flower - stuck with the plan and used normal Green Planet nutes as usual; 4.5L

Jan 26th - fed last night, back on the Green Planet routine; 4.5L (smaller next time) - scrog lifted, no tall threats likely at this stage. Waaay better access Jan 29th - Willie and her room-mate were moved into the 2’ this morning at Lites-out. Too much MT space in the 4’, this 2’ tent fits perfectly & economically into a 2 plant “finish” - dinner tonight; water to run-off (without a scrog, bonus) Ps… black willie has an extended flowering period. Could be ~ 14 weeks. These grows were all pushing-it one way or another; 4 down, 2 to grow! - remove any shadow-making leaves tonight. Tucked for weeks, time to loose a few Jan 30 - watered Pine Tar Kush to run-off, no issues. 7L of food/water cleared-up the high tds of the P.T.K. Run-off, so that was may starting point. ha. -Man, was Willie ever backed-up !! - effluent was DARK, beyond the colour of dinner. I managed to get the TDS if the effluent run-off to break and drop, but I ran out of good water @ 7 gallons. So, it needs to be done again to return soil to normal levels. Bonus is the dropping of the effluent pH to 7.2, Yes, all good (better) - this just became part of the routine, can’t have this pH layering shit happening - plant looks healthy regardless, and has always. Its going to receive a few more Nutes now that the substrate is un-blocked, thats for sure. No More pockets of soil with a pH of 4.5-5.0 Feb 1st - last day of week 8 flower - quiet nite last nite, conditions good

Feb 2nd - start of week 9 flower. ~ 5 more to go Feb 3rd - topping-up the Pot with Living Soil ~ 2-3L worth; added 2tbsp ea. Bat Guano (0-8-0) & Azomite. - Watered through the new soil. ( did a test pH of the soil @ 7.0 ) liquids fed @ pH 6.3 - Dinner tonight is slated for 3.5L, there will be a bit of a flush ahead of this, due to a discovery last feed of plugged soil. (6L run through b4 dinner) TDS out equals in. - Lowered Willie’s height a couple of inches last nite, (willie only) noticed a canoe effect on a few fan leaves near the crown. No pictures, just a reaction. Check them tonight, temps were and are in-range. Feb 7th - massive amounts of Calyx development the last few dayz. Shit is happening. Fresh cream-coloured stigma sticking out all over and nothing but Overall gains - all the soil checks tonight and if she needs a drink… let me lift the Pot - trichome checks, its about time Feb 8th, - last day week 9 ! - Dinner tonight; 5.75L

Feb 9th - first day of week 10 flower for Black Willie (4 more to go… ) - Plant fed last-nite; 5.75L -overall Humidity targets raised to 55-60% last week, and I SMELL DANKNESS THIS MORNING, definitely a heavier odour has settled-in Feb 11th, - wrong info from the Breeder had me working towards a 14 week flower for the High THC version of Black Willie. Turns out its the CBD version that takes so long. Only when I saw the Amber trichomes did I realize the opposite was true. Easily there are still clear trichomes, but there is also plenty of AMBER... Looks like as soon as my water is ready, I'm flushing Black Willie. Feb 12 - Willie was Flushed last night. Same conditions; 15gallons flushed through 7 gal flex-pot Feb 13th - Light cycle reduced to 11 hours, and the Tent Temp has been reduced by 0.5C. Feb 15th - last day of week 10 - still have control running a higher humidity. Plants seem to love it. Good airflow = Ohmm - 2L sip of water/Molasses tonight

Can anybody help me ID what is happening to these Fan leaves, at the top of my Black Willie. Leaf temp is 1c cooler than the room. Leaf 22c, room 23c, rh%55, lite distance 45cm. The leaf is showing that its folding like a canoe. Always thought that was signs of “ “too hot”.

Leaves too close to lights. May need to raise lights or dim wattage just a little

Feb 16th - Flushed on the 11th, she gets 3L tonight H2O/Molasses - I can say 1 thing for sure, these Buds are phat, phirm getting really smelly. Sorta Skunky, & becoming really tacky ! Feb 17th - both plants are seeing the Calyx go through a Bulging phase. Each Bud has now taken an irregular shape with Calyx growing and rounding things out… Call it the Final push? - it has begun on one of the Buds; some yellowing in the sugar leaves around the bud 19th - snipped a low bud from plant. Amber trichomes are present; slowly, Clear trichomes are moving to Cloudy. Almost 50/50 - she might only last a couple days... 20th - tonight is the last nite of light for Willie. Small sip of water / Molasses and she goes dark for 72hrs. Pictures, and lights till I go to bed...

Feb 23rd, - Black Willie gets Harvested at dinner-time tonight. 72 hrs of dark and she will be Photographed, Chopped, Weighed and Hung this evening. How does Bruce Buffer say it? “ IT’s TIIIIIME “ - I’m hoping that by carrying a higher Humidity late into Flower, that these plants will take longer to Hang-dry before they come down. My smallest fan yet will provide air movement within the tent. Dropping the humidity in increments as we move ahead. I’m gonna let it ride; by Day 9 I historically have branches snapping. Targeting a hang of 10-14 days - firmest, densest Buds I have ever grown. These are so Solid

Black Willie has been a spectacular grow. And really helped me control my Vocabulary when describing things … Had I known it was a fairly short olant, I would NOT have FIMmed it, but the resulting tiny plant has truly put on a show in producing significant buds in each of the 16 colas. By the time the plant had matured that was down to 14 Branches. Willie seems to be a little more sensitive to the lite, as the Leaves Taco’d when they approached the lite as closely as the other plants. I’ll keep that in mind for the future. I kinda blindly accepted the taco, knowing it was Lower in height than the other (still, doh) This plant carried an attitude through the whole grow, remained a tight little bush and has really picked-up a sharp totally Noticable fragrance. Dank, heavy with some Fruit notes way up high, have to say a bit of Berry at the top end for sure. And then its simply all EXOTICA

Feb 23rd Black Willie had been cut - weighed - hung. I am still amazed at how small this plant remained. However it certainly filled-in nicely with buds. Partly involved in issues with our CMH lighting, BW finished strong under LED - hanging as 1-piece in a dark tent; 17.5c @ 55-60% rh. Trickle of air moving through the tent. 26th - checked on the buds day 4 and all looks good. Smells even better. Gravity bringing colas together. At 1 week I will split branches up for better air access and rehang. Conditions steady at rh60%. That gets dropped in a couple days > 55% 27th - found some uneven drying and simply chopped the branch pairs off and re-hung. - Much better air circulation March 1 - there is a sharp dank smell starting to come from these hanging buds. Drying nicely there is Still moisture being shed, gonna try to extend the hang. Fan slowed, rh55% 15.5c - Day 7 today since Chop March 4th 4 out of 4 tiny bud-branches snapped. and that was the signal I needed. Day 10 and the tent maintained a good climate for these two ladies. ** ps May 12 2022 and I’m almost ready to take the 7 week Black Willie outside for the rest of the Summer. The 1st grow was an amazing introduction and now we are going to let Willie loose on Nature ** an amazing strain folks May 20th 2022, I have just posted a shot of the next Black Willie that I have grown. No fooling with height, this beast was allowed to stand-up and she had become a spectacular structure. That Bud STILL ROCKS, it should be tried, Black Willie high thc July 6 2022- B Willie is doing amazingly well. Pic posted

When leafs curl inwards like that it is to shut down photosynthesis. We refer to it as tacoing, Too much PAR on the plants is the exact cause of that. Using a thermal laser temp gun like the fluke 62 max and a PAR meter will help you achieve the most optimal position for your lights in relation to the plants.

@Green_Knight, Thanks for that information. Greatly appreciated. There was no obvious Stoppage of any growing or degradation of conditions, but I was nervous. Baby steps and research, people like yourself help keep my Plants together. Thanks for stepping in

@LegacyMarketFarm, My Kwazulu (s) are very pronounced in orienting their fan leaves in a "v" configuration when offered copious light. Given that they collectively orient themselves toward the light source, my experience is that the plant is maximizing it's light exposure. This is what I suspect most people including myself would call "praying". On the flip side I have other plants that will curl leaves down and inwards along both the lateral & longitudinal axis simultaneously, under the same exact lighting conditions as the Kwazulu. Needless to say, if the plant is otherwise healthy and thriving, I would not start making any dramatic change. Dialling back the light intensity seems to be a safe first step, toward narrowing the possibilities.

1Right_Anglecommented3 years ago
@LegacyMarketFarm, that is the exact problem I was facing. BUT, I was monitoring the leaf temp vs the room, and the leaf temp was 2 degrees C cooler. I was also running a pretty cool room. Lights had been dimmed. Certainly a unique scenario with this Strain. Which was also a tad further away from the light, than the pine tar… lets call her sensitive, for the future. Cheers bro
