Week 1 Veg Seriously looking forward to this one! (Malibu Pie x Ninja Fruit) Surf Purp is a limited release by Ninja at Ocean Grown Seeds. I won these on an Instagram comp ran by the big man Saf de la jungla 🐠🌴 massive shoutout to the OG team and Saf 👊✌️ I usually run fems as it's just less hassle in a small area with limited veg space, but for these bad boys I'll make the exception. To make for an interesting pheno hunt, and to give a higher chance of females, I popped 4 beans. I'm hoping this will guarantee me at least one female, but they could still potentially all be males! That's just part of the fun. I popped them in a wet paper towel, in an open bag in a dark closed drawer. They all popped within 48hr with nice healthy tap roots. I then place them very gently into a half-full cup of coco and perlite (4:1) and give them a good spraying with 5.8ph water. Be very careful not to touch or put stress on the tap root as it can easily be broken, which can result in the seedling dying and never sprouting. Once they've finished the initial "seedling stretch", I fill the rest of the cups to the tops very carefully, making sure I don't change the stance/direction of each seedling to avoid any stress on her young tap root. Be sure to number each plant and keep to those numbers; this is important if you wish to keep clones in order to hunt for the keeper pheno. If any show their man balls, then the clones that are taken from them with the same number can be thrown/killed off if they're not needed for their pollen/holding back for future breeding. If you end up with more than one keeper, then this helps us all identify them too. You can also write notes about how each pheno grows, as they may/can be very different in size, structure and nutrient requirements. On day 3, about a week earlier than I usually start nutrients, I gave them all a light dose of Cal-Mag. It's not going to make a significant difference, but I just wanted to get some calcium in the coco early for them. I try not to over water the cups too much until the roots are more established and have filled the pot enough to take more water. I find doing this encourages the roots to grow quicker as they're not soaked from the start, without the need to search for water. They're all looking perfectly healthy and doing great. I hope you guys will enjoy the hunt with me! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 2 Veg The Surf Purp siblings are looking good so far. #2 has caught my eye as she has much fatter, indica leaning leaves whereas the other 3 are more of a 50/50 hybrid. It's still very early, so we'll see their differences (if any/many) as they grow. This week I started them on calmag and their base nutrients straight away, giving only .4ml/ltr of FloraGrow/Micro/Bloom for the first feeding and 0.5ml Cal-Mag. I didnt give too much as I didn't want to burn their roots from too hot of a feed for them. They were given the stregnth listed above on Day 14, now that their roots are more substantial. It's important to give them the correct base nutrients for optimal and faster growth. The first feeding of Liquid Silicon was given on Day 14 too. This thickens cell walls and makes them more flexible. It's great for pest prevention and for training your plants in veg or when doing a ScrOG. Ninja told me they need a longer veg time, so my plan is to veg them for 6 weeks and give them half of the flower tent between them. Hopefully this won't be too long and overcrowd it, but if any are males then it'll only give the remaining females more room! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 3 Veg Nothing has changed this week nutrient wise. All of the Surf Purp siblings are looking very happy and healthy. I usually try to have them transplanted into their next pot around day 20, but seeing as their next pot will be their final pot I'll leave them a little longer. Even though I'll be using fabric pots I don't want them to get too root bound too soon before flower. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 4 Veg To start the week, the Surf Purp bunch was topped at the third node. It isn't crucial where you top your plants, just work around the height and area you personally have in your own veg and flower tents. I top at the 3rd or 4th node but if you can grow taller or wider plants then you may prefer to top somewhere else. They all responded very well and are quickly growing new tops and showing faster growth from the lower nodes. It won't be enough to create an even canopy of multiple tops, so further LST will be necessary once her new tops have grown a little taller and can be bent. On day 25 they were finally transplanted into their final pots; 2gal Root Pouches. I use fabric pots because I find they dry out a little quicker, which means more feedings throughout bloom. They also make oxygen available to the coco/roots from all around the pot. This will encourage better, healthier root growth. Not only that, but they prevent the roots from circling around the bottom of the pot and becoming heavily root bound. Instead, they eventually poke through the fabric and the air and light prunes them back (air pruning). Imagine your topping your roots, it encourages them to branch out more in search of nutrients and water elsewhere in the pot, rather than circling on themselves. The most exciting thing about this week is the switch of nutrients in The Den! I've been looking at changing to another brand for a while as I know there's better. There's never a better opportunity to do that then when you win a full line up of one of the best nutrients on the market, all on Grow Diaries; Urban Remo's Remo Nutrients Supercharger Kit! Thanks again GD ✌️ I couldn't be happier as I was looking at this or Canna, so I appreciate the decision was made for me! 😂 Although I usually work with different measurements/ratios for each nutrient, Remo's feed chart lists everything at the same amounts, which is strange for me. As he lists high strength throughout the weeks I've started off at a level 1ml a ltr. I'll leave it at the 1:1:1 everything ratio for a while and increase the strength if I feel I need to. But if after a while I feel I need to adjust amounts and ratios then by all means I won't hesitate to. I've found that the guides can literally be a very rough guide, and will differ from every environment. For example the more powerful the light, the more nutrinets will be needed as she'll be feeding far quicker. Everyone's environment is different so start low and go from there. Sorry for the essay guys, they had a busy week! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 5 Veg This week the Surf Purp siblings were given some minor LST on their main two tops. This will create a nice 4-top canopy for each little bush. The spread of the auxins will promote even growth from all four tops now that they're level in height. Auxins are hormones, and will go towards the highest point of the plant for the fastest growth, so spreading them out by evening the canopy will encourage even growth from each top, keeping a flat/level canopy for flower. I've also been increasing the nutrient strength to see how they're affected. I'm currently sticking to Remo's level ratio, but still not as strong as his chart and probably never will be. It's only a guide and will be affected under different conditions and lights, so find what strengths and ratios work best for your conditions and strains. They're looking very happy and healthy so far with no issues or burns. They'll be vegged for about another week before finally going into the flower tent! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 6 Veg Their last full week in the veg tent before they'll be flipped to flower. The Surf Purp siblings are looking very healthy and showing different traits and structures allround. I'm thinking #3 could be a man as it's growing quicker and taller than the rest. It's not a reliable way of sexing, and could still be female so until we see it's flowers, we won't know for sure. Remo Micro and Grow have been increased, along with MagNifiCal to see how they react. By the end of the week they seem to be in perfect health. I regularly move them around the tent and turn them daily to ensure the entire plant gets an even amount of light, promoting even growth from all of them. This is to ensure each plant keeps a level canopy and doesn't start to lean to one side when growing towards the light. Looking forward to getting these in flower! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 7 Veg A short update. To avoid confusion I've added these extra few days as another week of veg. The original plan was to have them in flower after 6 weeks of veg, but sometimes it doesn't work out perfectly so they had to stay put for a little bit longer. Nothing changed this week in regards to their nutrients or conditions. They're all looking very happy and healthy, and eager to go in the flower tent! Any leaves that look droopy or flopping down are only doing so because they're a bit squished in the veg tent! 😂 they'll have plenty more space when they move. They were thrown into the flower tent on Day 46 Veg/0 Flower for their first full night's sleep. With them being slightly different heights, I've lifted a few of them to suit the canopy above. They'll still more than likely stretch at different rates/lengths, but this will help for now. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 1 Flower We finally got the Surf Purp siblings into the flower tent Playboiis! 👍 Now they'll be growing at a faster rate throughout the transitional period, silicon has been increased a bit so they stay thick and strong, and also bendable if needed. Remo grow has been significantly reduced whilst remo bloom is now being added at the same strength as micro. A very small amount of Astro flower is being added too. Epsom Salts has been doubled along with Cal-Mag being upped very slightly. I always feed at 5.9pH when in the transitional period/stretch and then increase to 6pH once in full bloom. This is to slowly transition their pH to 6 as this is a better pH for the required nutrients throughout flower. Because they haven't yet had the usual maintenance flush after being delayed in veg, I gave them one on Day 6 Flower. They were topped up with a nutrient feeding straight after to ensure they don't go hungry! I checked the ppm and pH of the tun off for each of them before flushing mote water through them. This is to check if they're roots are happy and healthy with a good pH and feeding well, without leaving a high ppm in the run off. The strings that they're under were already there from the previois girls, but was sterilized before putting the Surf Purps in. These were enough to move all the branches required to open them up and spread them out evenly. Because I'm only flowering under one light, the two outer plants (1&3) won't be getting the same intensity as the other two, so they'll more than likely produce smaller, less dense flowers (if they're female). It's just something that'll need to be considered when picking a keeper as they could produce the same, or bigger flowers if given the same intensity as the other two. I placed the two tallest plants at the back as they look like they'll stretch the most out of the bunch, so it makes the two smaller plants at the front easier to see and tent to the canopy. They're all looking healthy and a nice colour overall. They're all looking healthy and a nice colour overall. They were all given a good defoliation on Day 7 to slow their stretch, now that their growing at a much faster rate. We'll soon see their pre flowers to determine what sex they all are! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 2 Flower At the beginning of the week they were lollipopped. I left one small branch on a couple of them until their clones had rooted (just incase they failed). As soon as their clones showed roots I cut the emergency clones off the plants. Lollipopping is a great way to slow down their stretch, and is also a great way to bring the humidity down in the tent and get some nice airflow inside and around the plants. If left, they'll grow fluffy pathetic, worthless buds that will only waste energy that would otherwise go into the nice fat top buds and mid canopy buds. The next day pheno's 1, 2 and 3 all showed us their sex, as you can see they are all females! Only a few days later #4 showed us her pistils too! Amazingly we have 4/4 females! It's gonna be a great pheno hunt with all four being left to flower. Remo grow was stopped being fed by the end of the week and silicon was reduced. Remo Bloom and Astro Flower were increased at the end of the week now they're towards the end of their transition. A small amount of nature's candy is being fed for better nutrient uptake, but isn't needed in larger amounts until we see frost, the same goes for molasses. They're all looking very healthy on Remo's Nutrients so far. They were given a leaf strip on Day 13 as they seem to be stretching pretty well and will continue to through week 3. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 3 Flower At week 3 I increase the pH to 6, as it is easier for the plants to uptake certain nutrients that are most important for flower, such as Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium (plus more). It's not crucial to do this, and a nice healthy crop can still be the result from staying at 5.8, but it's all about making the girl's lives as easy and stress free as possible. It makes the nutrients more easily available for the plant to uptake so why not make it easier! With the two at the back still growing strong I stopped feeding Remo Grow at the start of the week and stopped feeding silicon mid week to hopefully slow their stretch and start concentrating on bulking. Astro Flower is being fed at a stronger does now their flowers are growing faster. They're all coming along very nicely and looking healthy. They've completely bounced back from their heavy leaf strip and they'll soon start to show frost so I'm excited to smell the flavours we have in these beauties 🏄‍♂️🍇 Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 4 Flower Sugars have been increased now that they're forming a nice coat of trichomes. Astro Flower has also been increased slightly at the beginning of the week, going up to the amount listed above by the end of the week. I'm still testing and trying different things with Remo's Nutrients, as I'm new to the line-up, but they seem to be loving it so far so I'm happy. They're flowering faster by the day and pheno's 3 & 4 are continuing to grow taller whilst 1 & 2 have slowed right down to a halt. The shorter pheno's are smelling similar to each other, like extremely sweet blueberries. The taller pair are also smelling similar to each other, but completely different to pheno's 1 & 2. They're giving off a crazy candy smell with a lot of gas to go with it! I'm super excited about this round and all of these ladies. I can already tell it's going to be a hard decision to choose the keeper(s), and we've still got a long way to go for those smells to only get better! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 5 Flower All of the girls are looking very green and healthy, so I decreased micro and increased the PK. I'll stop feeding micro by next week, which will give a better flush and should hopefully get them fading quicker. To up the PK of the mix, I'm adding a small amount of Green Leaf Nutrients Bud Explosion and also giving a higher dosage of Astro flower. Remo Bloom has been left as it is, as it's already being fed at a high strength. Cal-Mag was reduced slightly before being stopped at the end of the week. Epsom salts was also stopped by the end of the week. Not only do they take a little longer to flush from the plant, but they can impair the flavour if fed for too long into flower. Pheno's 3&4 have grown level with the light and are extremely close, with #4 being far too close for comfort and will likely burn and bleach a bit, as you can start to see. Only 1 top nug is badly affected, but she has plenty of bus sites so all is well. The affected bud will still be perfectly smokable, but may lack slightly in terpene and cannabinoid levels compared to other buds. The shorter pair have stacked well and have a powerful blueberry smell, with #1 smelling more intense. They're all incredibly strong on the nose so a carbon filter is an absolute must with this strain if you need to keep it discrete. The hunt for keeper pheno still hasn't gotten any easier! They're all Dank! 🍇⛽🔥 Thanks for following and happy growing! 🦊

Surf Purp Week 6 Flower The last week before flush. All nutrients apart from PK and sugars have been stopped. This brought the ppm/EC down, plus Remo Bloom was reduced slightly now they're not so hungry. With that being said I'm still using a lot more with this line than I'm used to. Only because the remo nutrients feeding chart lists them so strong, which I'm already a lot lower than. In future I'll try reducing them and see how they cope and perform, but that's just part of dialing it in to your own specific set up. Now that they're close to flush they're starting to get slightly more pale, with #2 and #4 showing some purpling too. This is because they are slowly coming to the end of their cycle, so they no longer need heavy feedings and are now eating less and beginning to cannibilise. They're all very frosty and giving off an insane amount of smell. At this point I'm more or less certain that #4 is a keeper, with the most unique terpene profile out of the 4 females. It smells like rotting candy/fruit with a lot of gas ⛽ it's also a close call between #1&2, as they're very similar to each other yet so different to #4. These two have the sweetest, most pungent smell of blueberries but with very slight differences between them that could change more throughout flush (and even after drying and curing). The keeper from these two will more than likely be decided after drying and curing. One or two of the main cola's on #4 are way too close to the light, with one top bud showing clear signs of burning. When you look closely, parts of the burns are brown as you would expect, and others are bleached white. These are both from heat and light damage, and aren't ideal. But, it's only the one bud on one plant so I'm not going to stress over it. In fact, she's smelling that incredible that you wouldn't even know! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🦊
