Week 1 Veg
Seriously looking forward to this one! (Malibu Pie x Ninja Fruit) Surf Purp is a limited release by Ninja at Ocean Grown Seeds. I won these on an Instagram comp ran by the big man Saf de la jungla π π΄ massive shoutout to the OG team and Saf πβοΈ
I usually run fems as it's just less hassle in a small area with limited veg space, but for these bad boys I'll make the exception. To make for an interesting pheno hunt, and to give a higher chance of females, I popped 4 beans. I'm hoping this will guarantee me at least one female, but they could still potentially all be males! That's just part of the fun.
I popped them in a wet paper towel, in an open bag in a dark closed drawer. They all popped within 48hr with nice healthy tap roots. I then place them very gently into a half-full cup of coco and perlite (4:1) and give them a good spraying with 5.8ph water. Be very careful not to touch or put stress on the tap root as it can easily be broken, which can result in the seedling dying and never sprouting. Once they've finished the initial "seedling stretch", I fill the rest of the cups to the tops very carefully, making sure I don't change the stance/direction of each seedling to avoid any stress on her young tap root.
Be sure to number each plant and keep to those numbers; this is important if you wish to keep clones in order to hunt for the keeper pheno. If any show their man balls, then the clones that are taken from them with the same number can be thrown/killed off if they're not needed for their pollen/holding back for future breeding. If you end up with more than one keeper, then this helps us all identify them too. You can also write notes about how each pheno grows, as they may/can be very different in size, structure and nutrient requirements.
On day 3, about a week earlier than I usually start nutrients, I gave them all a light dose of Cal-Mag. It's not going to make a significant difference, but I just wanted to get some calcium in the coco early for them. I try not to over water the cups too much until the roots are more established and have filled the pot enough to take more water. I find doing this encourages the roots to grow quicker as they're not soaked from the start, without the need to search for water.
They're all looking perfectly healthy and doing great. I hope you guys will enjoy the hunt with me!
Thanks for following and happy growing! πΊ
@Sgtoso, I've only grown a few of the strains Ninja's bred but I can definitely say they're dank as fuh! And nice one mate! It's the Ninja Fruit 2 that's producing red flowers so best of luck with those bro πππ¦
@TheFoxFarmer, I don't know Ninja personally but I do know who he is. I just received some of his Ninja Fruit F2 beans in the mail. I just hadn't heard of Surf Purp and was curious. I've run Jawa Kush and Obi Wan OG from ocean grown. I really enjoyed both of those immensely. They've got some solid genetics. I plan to start a run of Alien Rift this spring. I noticed that Ninja is also working on a new project with some beautiful red and purple hues on the buds. I'm definitely interested in that one too. Good Luck bro!
@Sgtoso, this was created by Stoned Ninja, now with Dojo Seed Co. I started the diary when he was still will OG, that's all. Now one of my favourite strains too! ππ₯π¦
@PM_ME_YOUR_TREES, nice one mate. I'm actually a little behind on updating this diary A little bit, so I'll be posting a couple updates this weekend. Cheers πβοΈπΊ
FF, What a fine description of tenderness and how to treat the young ladies, even if a few of them turn out to be lads. π You're off to an auspicious start. Wishing you another stellar grow, bro! I am along for the ride.
