Planted two seeds, two seeds popped up within 3 days. Next time, though, I'm going to add microbes to the initial wetting of the soil before I plant the seeds... just want them to have the best conditions when they pop up!
Wish I had taken photos (where was my head?!). I'm excited about this strain - the two plants are looking magnificent! Having a small issue with a few gnats but so far it's not a problem - but I think I need to start doing some research and figure out how to get rid of them BEFORE they become a problem!!
I AM running out of room! The ladies are only in pre-flower and my little 2'x4'x60" tent is barely containing them now... I'm going to have to get REALLY creative and risky at the same time...
These ladies are just getting far to big for my tent! I've decided I have to get them out of the tent (since it's only 60" and I can't plaster the light up at the 60" level)... so I'm slowly acclimating them to the lower 68-degree temp in my bedroom (since that's where they're going to have to be) and am going to be boosting the humidity level with a humidifier (current room humidity is only 20%!). Going to try to tape up some aluminum foil on the walls (thank heavens I live alone! LOL!). Since I'm a relative newbie, I'd appreciate any thoughts/suggestions... they're JUST starting to flower.
It's going to be interesting to see my other two plants of the same strain and how tall THEY get... these are in 5 gallon pots but I've put the other two in 3 gallon pots... hopefully they'll be a bit smaller? Maybe?
These ladies are unbelievable. I keep thinking their stretch is over - or at least winding down - but nooooooo..... I took a soft tape measure and measured the main cola through all it's bends from LST... if it was straight, she'd be closing in on 50"! I am literally running out of room in my little 2'x4'x60" tent! I've rested the light on the crossbars up top to get the maximum height and I've done some major LST and defoliation but am still running out of head room. Since my tent is so small in comparison to their size, any LST I try to do now only ends up shading the other plant... and I've also run out of sideways room! I've ordered some rolled reflective insulation and am going to jury-rig a higher top for my tents (I have two of the same size...the large plants that THIS diary is about are in one, the two others I planted 3 weeks after these two are in the other). I had planted 5 seeds total... thank GOD one of them didn't germinate! I definitely am going to want to grow this strain again but not before I figure out how to give them more space... the kicker is I'M running out of space since my little place IS little - 700sqft! Sigh...
I'm getting very fond of these ladies! I've got two more that are 3 weeks behind and have started to do some major LST with them to avoid the height these gals have reached since my tent is only 60". I look at these two and know I'm going to have a MASSIVE bit of trim work to do in about 4? 5? 6? weeks... Trying to figure out NOW how I'm going to support the buds as I anticipate they're going to need a lot of help!
I had experimented with these two plants... one I just left to do what it was going to do on its own (still supplying the same nutes as the other) but the other one, I did a lot of defoliation in veg state... removed a lot of the lower leaves as well as some bud sites that were NOT coming from the main stem (with tomatoes, we call them suckers). I wanted the plant to put most of its energy into the main bud sites - and it seems to have worked brilliantly... I'll still get a good harvest out of the one I left to its own devices (I've since started to defoliate to aid light getting down inside) but the one I fooled around with in veg state is a bloody monster... It's almost as if the one I didn't fool with is about 2 weeks behind the other even though they're the same age. I can't wait to see the difference at harvest! But that's still some weeks off... 4? 5? 6? Who knows... Still having to LST both of them as they're still pushing up toward the lights and I don't have a whole helluva lot of room... these girls are so big, I wish I had a bigger tent because I know that whatever I get out of them, I could have gotten a lot more with more space and more lights.
The plant on the left in the tent is the same age as the plant on the right - but is about 2 weeks behind in development of flowers which is weird since both have received exactly the same treatment! I'm going to try to keep the right-hand plant going for another 2-3 weeks because the buds are really fattening up nicely and I want them to get as big as possible... she's going to have a massive harvest no matter what, though! The other plant, I'm going to let grow for another 4-5 weeks and hope she gets as huge in her production. This strain has been massively fun to grow.
I've got two more plants of the same strain going (planted 3 weeks behind) but instead of 5 gallon pots, they're in 3 gallon pots and are much MUCH smaller. I'm wondering/thinking the larger pots = larger harvest? Any comments/thoughts would be appreciated!
So I'm going to START to harvest these ladies today - but it's going to take me a couple of weeks! I'm only going to be harvesting the top buds on one of the plants (the one that sits on the right of the tent) because they are definitely ready. There are TONS of buds underneath that aren't quite ready yet and so removing the top buds will allow more light underneath and should enable the lower buds to fatten up and get their orange "whiskers" (just my term for them!). I've had to support the main cola of the plant on the left because it fell over last night - too heavy! But she won't be ready for harvest for another week/week-and-a-half - and I'll do her harvest the same way... in stages. I think I'm going to be harvesting/trimming for a long time... Quite exciting!!
Because I'm having to harvest in stages, I'm not going to be able to flush for the first stage. I'll flush for the second stage and will be able to tell if Fox Farm nutes need flushing for good taste/etc... another fun experiment! That's one of the things I love about this whole activity - the experimenting!
I've now harvested the top third of one plant... 2.5 dry ounces! The bottom 2/3 will hopefully bring at least that. The second plant is doing well but will need at least another 2-3 weeks before harvest.
For a sativa, I think she's fattening up nicely! This one will be ready to harvest in about a week or two now. As for my first plant, still harvesting but should finish that up today - so far, 3.5 ounces dry! I'll wait for both plants to be completely harvested before doing the final dry weight tally.
Harvest of the first plant is finished - she finished way too early but there's still a good harvest from her. I'm waiting until this lady finishes before calculating the entire harvest from this grow... hoping to keep her going for at least another week or two. She's drinking a lot and seems pretty happy.
I've been flushing for a week and have now harvested the top-most buds that are about 30% amber. The main cola had a wet weight of 1.3oz which I think is pretty good! It alone should dry out to 1/2oz! I don't do total wet weight for the simple reason that there's a lot of stem on them and I don't think that should be counted! Anyway...
I'm leaving the bottom of the plant for another couple of weeks at least. Will start to feed again to fatten up the buds and get the trichomes turning orange. I think this is going to be a really good harvest!
Harvested the top of her last week and put her back on nutes to let the buds underneath fatten up and finish... I'm going to start flushing her again this week but may have to repeat the process to get the final buds up to par!
I don't weigh my buds wet so that's left out of this diary. These plants were monster sized... had to do some significant LST on them all the way through pretty much to harvest as they wanted to outgrow my tent. Having sativa predominant meant that the buds were lighter and airier than I was expecting but the harvest was pretty astounding. I need also to say at the beginning, I was not pleased with @MSNL ... I had purchased 5 seeds, only 4 germinated... of those 4, one never developed any tricomes and I pitched it; one was most definitely not even the same strain... in fact, I'm about to harvest her (whatever she is) in about 2-3 weeks. I got in touch with @MSNL and told them about my whole experience and they really stepped up. I didn't ask for it nor was I expecting it but they popped 5 more seeds in the mail to me! Those are now in my refrigerator waiting for a time I can grow this strain again - and I'm excited about it. Hats off to @MSNL for standing up for their product and for their excellent customer service!
btw... think I've found a solution to the gnat "problem" before it becomes a problem... I've ordered some Mosquito Bits and will treat the soil with it next time I water!
I've decided I'm going to start chopping my last lady next week... again, I'm going to have to do it in stages because she's just so big and lots of the buds underneath aren't going to be ready... but the buds on top are about 30% amber now which is what I've set as my "mark." The first plant - the one that finished far too soon - has now been dried and is curing jars... 4.2oz dry weight from that lady... this one will probably be 6 or more... What an interesting grow... truly!
@GrowingGrannie, but Tangerine Dream will be ready in approximately 2-3 more weeks, Banana Kush will be ready in 3-4 weeks & Amnesia Haze will need another 5-6 weeks. Amnesia Haze has stopped growing, no size difference in buds or anything & now all of my fan leaves on the Tangerine Dream are completely covered in signs of cal/mag def. otherwise the plant is still looking good & buds are starting to fatten up now so I'll leave the fan leaves for at least another week or so before I remove them all Pre-Harvest.
@GrowingGrannie, yea just imagine growing 4 to 6 different strains at a time, right now I have the Amnesia Haze, Tangerine Dream, Banana Kush, (2) Respect 4 Gorilla CBD & had what was supposed to be Bubble Gum #2 but turned out to be a male 🙄
@Xavierfourtwenty, btw, I took your advice and did some major defoliation.. now about all I can see on that one plant are buds... TONS AND TONS of buds! The other one seems to have lagged in development which is weird... i.e., the one with all the buds is about 2 weeks ahead of the other even though they're the same strain and the same age... it just wasn't ready for any defoliation before but now she is and I'm not hesitating... I think in about 3-4 weeks, I'll be ready to harvest one plant and leave the other for even more time to develop further (which is good because from all the buds on it, I don't want to have TWO plants to do at the same time!).
@GrowingGrannie, ah I've seen autos grown in compost. If you look I added a super soil formula that changes into humus/top soil which ppl grow in all the time. And they are taking every nute now. But yeah I guess I'll find out if they reach harvest and then I might be sayinh u were right, hope it's not the case but they haven't given me any problems so far and very little maintenance at the start compared to hydros. But yeah thanks. Autos are a tricky thing even if you have everything right, there's no many different answers ppl give I've stopped asking questions, unless I'm stumped. But yeah all the best. I'll drop by soon. Thanks for the tips.
@gottagrowsometime, I know you probably know this but am just going to mention - autos don't like a whole lot of nutes... I start mine off with 1/4 the dosage recommended and GRADUALLY increase ... I give way more bloom nutes, even early on, than I do grow nutes... But I mention that only because you said you started yours off in compost... seriously, that could have a major negative impact on autos... they really just want to be left alone (fat chance!) to do what they're going to do... I'm honestly thinking about doing a grow of autos this summer with no nutes whatsoever and see what happens... LOL!
And yeah, she IS a beast... can't even accurately figure out how tall she is because I've had to LST her to death just so she'll fit inside my 60" tent and not kiss the damned lights... 😝 I'm struggling to figure out how I'm going to support the buds because she's got, at MINIMUM, 4-6 more weeks before harvest... stay tuned! And cross your fingers I don't screw this up!
Wow, that plant is a beast! Good to know your trichomes are turning amber. I’ve talked to several others who said their Tangerine Dream never turned amber so they chopped anyway. I am giving mine a few more days!
This is awesome! I planted 4 strains at the same time and the TD is way ahead of the others. I accidentally over fertilized and developed some issues with the other three. But not the TD. She is strong and she's is growing wild in my grow tent.
So my tallest (the Tangerine Dream) at 44" but with that cal/mag deficiency had to do a lot more defoliation than I had hoped for so I'm sure I added a week to the Flowering! Speaking of, those a really dense. Just a thought, maybe do a little defoliation yourself, sucks it's already Into Flowering as well but you can get by will a little & shouldn't hurt you, if anything it'll help your yeild
So I noticed that you said you were going to start harvesting today, but then I noticed that you still have White Pistils all over, if that's the case it's not ready. Just a suggestion but hopefully you haven't already done so but you should wait just a bit longer, mine pretty much looks just like yours but I'm going to have to wait for the end of the week before it is ready! My Banana Kush is ready now but I'm actually going to starve it for a day or two to soak up anything that may be remaining in the soil! But seriously, I'd wait just a bit longer if possible 🤞
@GrowingGrannie, yea I am having the same problem with the shop I buy my seeds from, they sold me that male plant & I was pissed, I'm just glad I noticed before it was able to pollinate the females 🙄 then I also bought some CBD Respect 4 Gorilla from ExpertSeedBank & so far I've only grown the two but they're both different, one has long skinny pointed leaves while the other has short fat pointed leaves! But both are looking very good so far, so I can't complain too much! I did Harvest some of the Banana Kush, not all of it was ready but very close, probably be harvesting the rest in the next few days
@Xavierfourtwenty, One plant still has nothing but white pistils but the other has tons of orange pistils and that's the one I harvested the top third of ... I'll tell you, once this whole grow is done with, I'm going to go comment on MSNL's website about their seeds - there has been INCREDIBLE inconsistency and I'll not buy from them again. Of five seeds, only 4 germinated (not complaining)... two of the seeds (we'll call them #1 and #2) grew to over 50" and went into flower in week 5... #3 and #4 haven't gotten taller than 22" and went into flower in week 4 ... #1 is the one with all the orange pistils now but #2 is JUST starting to show them... #3 is all jammed up - no stretch at all but flowers look dense and frosty ... #4 stretched a bit, has good flowers but not one friggin' tricome on the entire plant (I'm pitching it)... AND I TREATED EACH ONE EXACTLY THE SAME!!! As I said, the inconsistency is maddening!
@Xavierfourtwenty,
Whoops... I don't see my first response to your question! I suppose I did something wrong! I had said that I really, REALLY like them and would recommend them wholeheartedly! I was a bit scared when I first used them but if you work with a stem that's really pliable, it's easy-peasey... I tried to use one on an "almost-pliable-enough" stem (the main cola!!) and ended up HSTing it... thankfully it didn't mind a bit and is still growing strong. I like the fact I can choose which direction I want the stem to point in ... AND I like the fact I can remove them after a while and use them elsewhere and the bend stays put - i.e., the stem doesn't end up straightening out. I only bought a small bag of them and haven't had a reason to buy more....
@gottagrowsometime, Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it very highly... buds were awfully small - more sativa than indica - but in YOUR hands, it might do very, very well! Good luck if you try it!
