First Grow 8|

It's been a journey, overall I think this was a very forgiving strain. I made a few mistakes along the way but we made it, currently drying and will expect to start curing in roughly two weeks. I'll continue to update until that process is finished. I think on the next indoor grow I'll be able to apply some of what I've learned from this to increase the yield. Either way I'm glad I made it to the end! 191g from the smaller of the two 275g from the larger of the two 6/10/22 - So on day two of drying I noticed the dreaded hay smell starting, I had never heard anything about this until I started searching for it specifically, apparently it's a common problem! I made some adjustments to the environment and after checking the dehumidifier today I noticed the hay smell was gone and the delicious smell was back, so we seem to be on track here. For future grows: Only have one fan inside the tent blowing, circulating air below, aimed away from the buds. Dehumidifier near the back and aimed away from the buds. Humidity levels set to 50% on the dehumidifier Tent fan settings changed to 62-72F, 45-55% RH. Checking dehumidifier water tank every other day, at this point probably not necessary to check that often but it's fine. Will set up the hose next time. Lastly, apparently dry trimming is preferred? Everything I read said wet trimming is best, but once I started researching the hay smell it was near unanimous to dry trim. I'll try that next time. Aiming for Wednesday to start curing, but will keep an eye out. 6/15/22 - Took them down and have them curing, honestly with the drying process I've found that all the info available isn't quite accurate, and I don't get true information until I have to search specifically on the problem I'm having. In this case, they likely could have been placed in jars over the weekend. Currently registering 51% RH in the jars. This is below the required 55% and from what I can tell is very low for the start of this process. Now I did just jar them up, so I'll check the RH in about an hour to see if it changes. If not, I'll try putting a live plant leaf in each jar to try and bring up the humidity just a bit. Weighed the whole batch in at 95g, just around what I was expecting. Pretty cool! Notes for next time (adjusting the above stats) Humidity levels set to 55% on the dehumidifier Tent fan settings changed to 62-72F, 50-60% RH. These may get me within the 7-10 window, with what I did this time I probably should have put them in jars after 5-7 days. I read that you should NOT wait for the stem to snap, let it have a bit of give. You can somewhat squeeze the buds too, go for a spongy/fluffy feel? Pull them when they feel just slightly crisp on the outside. 6/19/22 - Mmm maybe disregard, we're sitting around 61%-67% across the jars. Popping them open for 15 minutes twice a day, shaking and moving them around. I had originally placed leaves from an indoor plant in the jars to bring up RH, but that is no longer necessary (might not have been at all!). Will likely switch to once per day after a week or two.

Not bad, but I have to improve the drying/curing process. I think that damaged the final product a bit, but I finally sampled some of it last night. Very clean and crisp effect, practically all mind and no body effect. The smoke itself isn't as tasty as I'd like, but again I think that has to do more with the cure than anything. Smells wonderful after grinding it up and opening the jar; very sharp citrus. My hope is it'll improve over time, but after three weeks I figured it was time to give it a little sample. I may end up using the majority of it to make edibles, but we'll see! Fun journey and looking forward to improving on the next ones :)
