Daily quick checkups to make sure there was no mold. Temps and RH have been stable all week too! Been able to maintain an average of ~60°F at ~60% RH all week! Also started to re-amend the EarthBoxes for the next grow. Getting stoked! The big trim is less than a week away! Slow and steady as she dries Ensign. Then in a few days, I can check and break up the dried clumps before doing the full re-amend with all the dry amendments. --- Going to check the soil sensors before removing them (why not). --- Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 10% - [CH01 EB2] --- 25% - [CH02 EB2] --- 30% - [CH03 EB2] --- 10% - [CH04 EB2] --- Soil moisture looks pretty dry on the sides with the middle having a bit more moisture. - [12:14]: Removed the soil sensors and set them aside. --- Going to place them back later. - [12:17]: Took the EarthBoxes and set them side-by-side. --- Removed the mulch covers. --- The soil looked nice and dry with minimal pockets of moisture. --- There were also leaves in various stages of decomposition. --- Also, no foul odors or smells is always a good sign. Everything smelled nice and earthy. - [12:50]: Smoothed out the top soil and broke up clumps. --- Broke up the paper bags. To help with decomposition, tried to keep the scraps under the soil. --- Also loosened the roots for each plant but left them where they were at. When I needed, I'll remove and bury the stalk somewhere else. --- Tried to go about an inch or two deep. --- Time to add the compost! - [12:55]: Checked the bin. --- It's been a good 8 days since the worm bin was harvested. --- The lid was dripping with water condensation. --- Woah! --- Lots of bokashi blooming! Pretty cool! --- Moisture in the bin was also quite moist. - [13:03]: Added half of the harvested worm bin to each EarthBox. --- Started in the center and evenly spread the compost out to the sides. --- Then slightly mix it into the freshly loosened top soil. --- Great! --- Going to bio-fumigate with a bit of mustard seed. - [13:20]: Sprinkled 4tbsp of Milled Mustard Seed Meal onto the topsoil of each EarthBox. --- Slightly worked the mustard seed into the top soil. - [13:32]: Then using a spray bottle, misted the top soil with distilled water (~30 sprays each). --- This was mainly to add more moisture to activate the mustard. --- The moisture from the compost will also help. --- Covered each EarthBox with the old mulch covers. - [13:41]: Re-stacked the EarthBoxes. --- Also put the soil meters back into the top one (the newer EarthBox). --- Done! - [13:44]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data again: --- 21% - [CH01 EB2] --- 29% - [CH02 EB2] --- 28% - [CH03 EB2] --- 17% - [CH04 EB2] --- Overall, moisture levels seem to be higher than before. --- Great! --- Going to let this dry out for a few days before adding in the rest of the amendments. - [17:31]: Evening bud drying checkup! --- Leaves are looking nice and dry but stems don't look. --- Environmentals look great too! --- Wow! Funky raunchy gas-like terps! --- Also the buds on 3 of the plants were quite dense. As expected, the early cut twin seemed a bit fluffy on the bud squeeze. --- Regardless of yield, this harvest is looking like a better smoke than the last! I hope. --- Simply refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Done! Basically, if a branch makes a snapping sound when bent, then the drying is done. --- Simple enough. --- Took a branch and bent it. --- No snap. --- As expected, not dry enough. --- Will try again on another branch in a couple days. --- Wow! --- Only 4 more days left until the big trim! During the beginning of the week, finished the re-amending of both EarthBoxes. Stoked for the next grow! ['Fuel D.OG' by 'Seedsman'] Drying went very smoothly and had no environmental issues. Then towards the end of the week.. TRIM DAY!!! Each plant was trimmed and jarred! To my utter surprise, the yield was slightly more than my last harvest (see logs for full details). Going to be curing these jars in similar temps (60°F-65°F) for 2 weeks before tasting. Can't wait! Similar to the last grow, plan to eventually follow up with a post cure smoke update. Until then.. Day 02 - Tuesday - 02/07/23 - Total Days: 145 [100] [096] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 61.7°F [16.5°C] - Humidity: 61.7% - VPD: 0.70 kPa - Soil %: N/A ----------------------------------- - [12:09]: Time to finish off the EarthBox re-amend! --- First, time to make a basic wetting solution. --- Adding microbes and enzymes along with a bit of probiotics. --- Filled a pitcher with 4 cups of distilled water. --- Added 1/32tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/8tsp of Mycrobe Complete --- Added 1mL of Bio-Catalyst Enzyme Elixer --- Added 3mL of Yah-Whey --- Mixed the solution and set it aside for a bit. - [12:27]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 19% - [CH01 EB2] --- 28% - [CH02 EB2] --- 27% - [CH03 EB2] --- 16% - [CH04 EB2] --- Soil moisture is dry around the sides but looks okay towards the center. - [12:35]: Removed the sensors and set them in a cup for later. --- Okay, now that the soil has had a bit of time to dry out, time to re-amend both EarthBoxes! --- Going to be adding in a dry organic fertilizer (Craft Blend), some bokashi (Kashi Blend), and a sprouted seed meal (Gnarly Barley). --- Also will be bio-fumigating with mustard seed meal. - [12:44]: Took the EarthBoxes and set them side-by-side. --- Removed the mulch covers. --- Wow! The bokashi white fuzz was in full bloom! --- Beautiful! --- Gave the top soil a quick mix. --- Moisture felt pretty hydrated, but not muddy. --- Also the soil in both EarthBoxes smell great! Humic aromas with sweet earthiness. --- Okay! --- Time to re-amend! - [13:13]: First a top dress of some BuildAFlower! --- For each EarthBox, --- Sprinkled a solo-cup of BuildAFlower Top Dress. --- Started in the center, but spread the top dress out evenly. --- Gave the top soil a mixing to incorporate the top dress into the top inch or two of soil. - [13:29]: Now for the dry amendments! --- Filled a pitcher with the following dry amendments: ----- 1/2 cup (8tbsp) of Craft Blend [Nutrient Pack] ----- 1/2 cup of Gnarly Barley [Pre-Milled] ----- 1/2 cup of Alfalfa Meal ----- 1/2 cup of Kelp Meal ----- 1/2 cup of Milled Mustard Seed Meal ----- 1/2 cup of Premium Insect Frass [Black Soldier Fly] ----- 1/2 cup of Kashi Blend --- Mixed the amendments before sprinkling onto the top soil of one of the EarthBoxes. - [14:04]: Repeated this exact same process for the other EarthBox. --- Gently mixed in the dry amendments into the top layer of soil. --- Okay time to water! - [14:18]: Using a spray bottle, misted 2 cups of the wetting solution onto the soil of each EarthBox --- Tried to go evenly. --- Covered each EarthBox with the old mulch covers. - [14:39]: Re-stacked the EarthBoxes and placed the soil meters back into the top one (the newer EarthBox). --- Going to let everything cook for another week before starting the next grow! --- Similar to last time, going to germinate in a cup of water and plant the sprouted seeds straight into a pocket of fresh BAS Light soil (within a paper bag). --- The next grow will definitely be photo-periods. May go back to autoflowers later, but for now, photo-periods. --- Decided to grow 2 beans of 'Fuel D.OG' by 'Seedsman.' --- Was going to grow 4 beans, but since these are photo-periods, one per EarthBox should be fine. Can always plant a second seed if needed. --- An offspring of Chemdog (Sour Diesel x OG Kush) and Fuel OG (Diesel x HeadBand), these genetics are more sativa dominant. --- Personally, I prefer more indica dominant strains for smoking. But with a genetic lineage that includes both OG and diesel strains, can't wait to give these seeds a go! - [17:32]: Evening bud check! --- Day 12 of drying! --- No signs of mold! --- Temps and RH look great! --- Did another stem snap, --- Still no snapping sound. --- Will try again tomorrow. --- Two more days until the big trim and cure!! - [12:27]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 22% - [CH01 EB2] --- 30% - [CH02 EB2] --- 30% - [CH03 EB2] --- 26% - [CH04 EB2] --- Soil moisture is a bit higher than before, but mostly hydrated in the center. - [20:25]: Decided to drop the RH a bit. --- Adjusted the environmental controls. --- The heater and humidifier's controller target TEMP/RH values were adjusted from 59°F/62% to 59°F/57% --- Within the AC Infinity App, --- Adjusted the 'Drying [0/24]' Schedule for the Exhaust Fan. --- Lowered the exhaust fan's controller humidity HIGH/LOW values from 65%/45% to 60%/45% --- Done! Day 04 - Thursday - 02/09/23 - Total Days: 147 [102] [098] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 64.7°F [18.2°C] - Humidity: 57.5% - VPD: 0.87 kPa - Soil %: N/A ----------------------------------- - [10:01]: TRIM DAY!!! --- Ah yea! --- Have the Trim Bin along with some trimmers and a silicone brush all set! --- Also have jars for easy separation. --- Even though these are all 'NYC Diesel' autoflowers (by ILGM), going to keep each phenotype separate. --- Going to be combining all the trim and popcorn buds to puff on while the buds cure (also any extra kief collected from the trim bin). Stoked! --- Okay! Time to start! - [10:10]: Started trimming the smallest twin! --- Wow! She's a stanky one! --- Ooowee! The terps are loud on this one! --- Also for a dwarf, the bud structure was quite large. --- Fingers were coated in trichomes after the trim. Wow! --- Even though small, each nug smelled like top shelf fire! --- Haven't even began curing yet already can't wait to smoke this one! --- Done! --- Next! - [10:41]: Began trimming the tallest (early cut) twin! --- Since this one was the early cut, the bud structure was mostly larfy popcorn buds. --- Terps were not as loud as the first plant but damn the trichomes were just everywhere! --- Took a break before starting on the next plant. - [14:44]: Okay! Started trimming the second plant! --- Out of all harvested plants, this is the one I am most curious to smoke. Despite the bad watering and growing conditions (damnit Ensign) she grew the healthiest. --- Nice! --- Similar to the first plant, the terp profile was incredibly screaming loud! A raunchy sweet fuel profile! --- Extremely hyped! --- Also the bud structure was stacked and dense. Wow! --- Regardless of final weight, this harvest is already far better than the last! --- Didn't think that freshly dried buds could smell this good (last harvest had aromas nowhere close to the strength as this time). --- Just incredible! The odor profile is so loud that I'm not sure if curing is even necessary (probably is necessary). - [16:24]: Last but not least, began trimming the original grow! --- Nice! --- This plant was louder than I thought she would be. --- Also the bud structure was smaller and slightly less dense than the last plant. - [19:30]: Done! --- Very impressed with this harvest! --- Managed to fill 4 jars which is less than the 6 jars of last harvest (more like 3 jars if combined). But am not complaining! The density of the bud structure along with the overly loud terp profiles have me more stoked than overall yield. - [19:35]: Time to weight the entire lot! --- Took each jar and weighed the freshly trimmed buds. --- The weights were: ----- 4.4g [Small Twin] ----- 11.7g [Tall Twin] ----- 28.1g [Second Plant] ----- 25.0g [Original Grow] --- This gives a total dry bud weight of 69.2g!!! --- Wow! --- With the last harvest being 64.2g, surprisingly, I beat my last grow! --- Although to be fair, sugar leaf trim was a lot less at just over 5g. The last harvest had a lot more trim shake (~18g) but not complaining! --- In terms of final dry weight, completely surprised with the results! There was significantly less biomass, yet still managed to get more bud weight. Nice! --- Okay! - [19:49]: Time to begin the 14-day cure! --- For moisture control, all the jars were sealed with Boveda 62% two-way humidity packs and placed into a dark and cold area. --- For moisture monitoring, each jar also has a hygrometer attached to the lid. --- Plan to check and burp the jars as needed to make sure the moisture levels are not too high. Going for a 60-62% RH cure. --- At this point, entries may not be daily. --- Not much to log during the curing process. Just a lot of waiting (and smoking). --- Let the curing begin! - [20:09]: Oh yea, also have the extra kief from the Trim Bin! --- Collected the kief and stored it in a container for later. --- Done! --- Time to pack a bowl! --- Now just have to wait for the rest to cure! --- Next week, plan to start the new grow! --- Will also do a tent cleaning along with a full environmental reset for the next grow. But until then, going to turn everything off (except the exhaust). Could be a bit higher, but the levels look good to me! --- To prevent mold, I'd rather have it a bit drier than moist for the cure. --- And wow! --- Terpenes are loud! --- Before now, I've only had one previous harvest before this one. --- So I didn't have anything to compare my results to. --- But now I understand that a properly grown, harvested, and dried plant, should smell loud and smokable straight out of the dry tent. --- Curing seems to help further remove the chlorophyll which locks in the terpene profile and makes a smoother smoke. --- But curing does not make boof weed smell and taste dank. --- Quality in, quality out. Day 06 - Saturday - 02/11/23 - Total Days: 148 [104] [100] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 64.5°F [18.1°C] - Humidity: 49.7% - VPD: 1.01 kPa - Soil %: N/A ----------------------------------- - [08:01]: Day 2 of curing! --- Gave the jars a quick burp. --- Wow! Terps are slapping! --- Three of the jars are smelling dank! --- One jar was not as loud and had a slight hay like odor (the early harvested plant). But still smells way better than anything from my first harvest. --- Nugs also look frosty and are sticky and dense to the touch. --- Incredible! --- I want to smoke some! --- The notion that 'you need weed to make weed' really does hold true. If I didn't have the extra trim shake or a side supply of herbal medication, I would definitely be dipping into these jars right now! --- Okay Ensign, only 12 days left! --- [*smokes a bowl] Day 07 - Sunday - 02/12/23 - Total Days: 149 [105] [101] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 63.6°F [17.6°C] - Humidity: 51.9% - VPD: 0.94 kPa - Soil %: N/A ----------------------------------- - [08:25]: Day 3 of curing! --- Burped the jars again! --- The terpene profile is smelling incredible! --- One of the jars (the second plant) is really loud and starting to smell a bit raunchy! Ooowee! Stoked to give this harvest a taste! --- Temps and RH have been spot on so will try to not open these jars again until it's time to smoke. --- Wow what a grow season! --- Made it through the entire process! Again! --- Of course, already have the next grow planned out and ready to start! --- Have to say that this second time through harvest and curing was a lot easier than the first time.
