Took 12 cuts on Jan 1, all but one were happy to oblige so I dropped a seed in. Update, runtz x mint is up. Roots are looking good on the cuts. Update, last cut took root.

Nothing exciting other than the last cut deciding to come to the party. Made a quick wastebasket dwc bucket that fit in the environment for the extra plant. The insulated base is working better than planned, haven’t needed to pipe in cold air as the temps have remained below 68°.

Added a good amount of foliage this week. Started training. It’s my first time using the scrog/sog method and I think it’s working out alright. Also first time doing dwc in totes, current auto run which is close to the end in the 4x8 tent was first time doing dwc in buckets and autos indoors. Learned a lot through mistakes with the buckets hence the hydrogaurd and insulated base. All I did as far as reservoir since last week was add a gallon of water to each today and brought the ppm up to 800 with balanced nutes and adjusted ph twice when it rose above 6.3

Filled in nicely for the short veg period I was planning. Drained and refilled reservoirs with early bloom nutes and flipped to 12/12 today (probably too early but we’ll see). I’m hoping that in the first couple of weeks, with the stretch, I’ll be able to expose and push some more flower sites.

Cranking right along. No issues this week, just added water and corrected ph when needed. A lot of leaf tucking and trying to keep the canopy consistent. This is my first time doing scrog and I think it’s going well. If anyone has any suggestions or tips, I would be ecstatic to hear them. 😁 Also, had inguinal hernia surgery this week so it’s gonna be slow going. Fortunately my auto run in the other tent is close so I’ll have some light duty chop and hang going on. Last pic this week is gorilla gas auto looking colorful.

Another solid week of growth. Some white hairs are starting to show on the Cali dream. Not so much on the single Runtz x Mintz, which I topped, more for the preservation of genetics than anything else. I began running an oscillating fan on medium for 4 hours on each side of the tent (from the outside) because I feel that the stems/stalks weren’t getting enough movement from the two smaller fans. Once again I only added water, adjusted ph and ppm. I read, and see on many grow channels, that the reservoir solution should be changed every 7-10 days. An old friend said he would let his dwc buckets go a month+, only adding water and occasionally nutes. So far the month+ is working for me so I’ll do a purge and fill next week or even the week after if everyone still seems happy. The last few pics this week are of gorilla gas auto that I just finished hanging. I’m so looking forward to smoking that, it smells like someone spilled gas in a tire showroom. Burn 🌲🔥 on!!!!

Did some defoliating mid week. It’s looking a little more manageable and definitely easier to access the fill/drain ports. I reset the water today and I’m trying just maxibloom, silica, and hydroguard. I usually have a ph of 7-7.3 after adding the flora trio, silica, and calmag to unfiltered municipal tap water with a base tds of 100 +/- and adjust to 5.6-5.9 ph and let it rise to 6.5 before re-adjusting. Today after refilling and adding maxibloom, silica, and hydroguard, the ph was at 6.2 in one tote and 6.25 in the other so I let it ride and will monitor. +1 to maxibloom for dropping the ph. Roots are still looking good and healthy. I need to hook up an exhaust fan because first thing in the morning the humidity has been 70-80% before the light heats things up and activates the cooling fan. This run has been a great learning experience, I’m extremely happy with the results so far.

The runts mintz is impressing me. I hope the top roots because it was my only bean. It’s had some funky leaves and the structure is cool af. The Cali dream is getting a minty funk smell to it and the RxM has the beginnings of some fruity freshness. I think this next week I’ll do a little more defoliating, as much as it pains me to cull calyx’s, the canopy is tight and not many photons down low. Grow on and have a good day!

I switched out the Bloom Plus xp3000 for the xp4000 to finish flowering. I think the extra light should help out. Also added floraseries bloom to the mix as a pk boost. I’m hoping to see some good bud building this next week. Happy growing!

Grow Questions

Trichomie78started grow question 2 years ago
What would cause the Cali Dream to foxtail with no other noticeable signs of stress? PH is 5.9-6.0 my tds is a little high for dwc maybe but no more than 1-2mm of tip burn sparsely throughout, oddly only in one tote. RuntzXmintz seems to be free of the issue.

Too much nitrogen (as evidenced by the very dark green leaves) during the flowering cycle will cause excessive leaf growth and stretching at the expense of bud growth in most strains.

As noted in grow question, the Cali dream has some foxtailing. I made adjustments and started off with a light solution with even lighter N%. I hope this helps. 3-4 days with hydro to start seeing the affects from what I read. Thanks again to those who shared advice. A good friend asked me how many watts per sq foot and that I should keep it above 32 so im a 112watts shy with the xp400. I just received a szhlux pt5000 that I’m considering swapping. ☮️🌲🔥

It starting to stink!!! 😁I started to take fans and trying to rearrange for better light to the shorter stalks and airflow. Also trying out koolbloom but it’s the first time growing this strain so I have no “with KB and without KB” comparison. So far it’s pumping resin and the trichomes are progressing nicely. I’ve been keeping the 4 inch duct open at night and the solution temp is around 58°f in the morning, hoping this hastens ripening. Everything is an experiment until I find my groove. My arms were getting sticky during the defoliation. Some weird foxtails still and some buds looking great like the runtz x mints in the corner. Happy spring!🌱🌿🌴

One more week +/- until they’re done, at least the top 1/3-1/2. Still having the tails pop out but the trichomes on the "normal" mostly mature are getting close. The runtz mint is getting a sweet smell of berries that are rotting off the bush and the Cali dream makes my stepfather gasp when he gets too close. It’s been a busy week. I’m currently in the application process for legal market where I live and it’s been a little stressful but the garden keeps me sane. 😁🤞🏻🤞🏻🌱🌿The outdoor growing season is less than optimal but some xxl autos and late September/early October finishers should do, and possibly light dep on some 10 week girls. Best all!!!

I enjoyed growing the Cali dream. The only hiccup was the foxtailing but I’m chalking that up as grower error and now I know to keep an eye on nitrogen with this strain. It finished rather quickly so I think I’ll run 25 outside along with 4 other strains in my for legal market grow this summer.
