Day 1: Soaked three Seeds in a glas of tapwater.
Day 2: The seeds sank to the bottom. I put them on wet papertowel in a dark glasbox, waiting for germination. My main concern at the moment is the pretty low temperature indoors (about 18°on daytime), but we'll see how it goes.
Day 4: The seeds germinated. But because my Box has not arrived yet, i let them in papertowel until it's set up. I think the roomtemperature is too low to plant them in pots without proper warming. The Lights with the tent hopefully be enough to push the temperature a few degrees up.
Day 6: Box is set up. The germinated seeds moved into their temporary pots. Temperature around 17 degrees, ordered a heater to fight the cold.
Day 7: Heating is installed. Temperature now is 23°, 50% humidity, Light distance 30cm with 20% Power, 18/6. First one raised itself over the ground and the other follow within a few hours. hooray!
Week 2/Day 8 since watering the seeds: Two of them are doing fine, the third girl is still missing. humidity is pretty low (35 - 40%), gonna buy a humidifier to help with that. Temperature seems okay (bit higher would be nice, but i guess it works out.
Day 10: They are doing well. Sleepy stretches a bit but i don't know if she'll make it. Time will tell. Soil PH is 6.6, Temperature stable at around 21-22°, i install my little humidifier today and look if humidity changes for the better (aiming at 60%)
Day 11: Humidifier doing work, Humidity is now constantly over 60%. I'll leave settings as is for the next days and see how they develop.
Day 13: They need noticably more misting/watering every day. Nice to experience how they become a bit thirsty :) Go girls!
Day 14: Misting alone doesn't get them covered anymore. They awaited me with kinda droopy leaves und dry crumbly soil. Gave them their first sip from the cup (0,2l with 1ml/l root juice). They are still very tiny in height, but the leaves seem to develop well.
Week 3/Day 15 since the seed were moisted:
The first sip of water was too much to take for the girls. They showed signs of overwatering yesterday, but now the are fine. Will give them 0,1l per Plant tomorrow and just mist them today. Besides that its going fine. Hope to move them in their bigger pot by the end of that week. Let's see how it goes. :)
Day 20: Seems i overwatered way too frequently. They are very droopy and look unhappy. Gonna give them no water till tomorrow and see if they get better.
The topsoil is always dry when i water, there never is any runoff, ph is okay 6.5, light is the same since the beginning. I think overwatering is the most likely what could cause their poor appearance. Fingers crossed it will get better.
Day 21: So, it seems like overwatering wasn't the reason for their unhealthy appearance. Soil was completely dry, watered again and the still did not recover. The yellowing of the lower leaves seems worse than before.
So since light, water, ph and temperature seems not to be the issue: My next best bet is nutrition i guess. To adress this i pottet them in their bigger pots earlier than expected and added 25% of nutrients (2ml/l root juice, 1ml/l bioheaven and 1ml/l acti vera) to the initial watering. Now i let them be until the soil is dry and see what happens. Hopefully they will recover. Temp 23°, PH 6.3, Humidity 60%, Lights still dimmed to 40%, Distance to lights 30cm, 200ml initial watering for each plant. With the next watering cycle i'll start adding fish mix.
Day 21 since seed:
Yesterday i identified the yellow leaves as a nitrogen deficiency, at least that is where it points at. So i potted them in their 8l pots and added some nutrients to the initial watering. Now i hope they will recover. Plant Nr. 2 already looks way happier.
Day 22: With fresh soil, bigger pots and some nutes, they seem to recover. So i guess nitrogen deficiency was the right bet. Hopefully the will fully recover. But for now it's a huge relief. Fingers crossed!
Day 24: Watering time: Gave them 1.25l each. They look pretty good, despite having little issues with heat. But i think i got it for moment. Hope the girls will finally grow a bit more. They still seem so tiny. :D
Day 28 since the Seeds were watered.
So far so good, looks like we're in stable territory for now. They grow pretty fast now. Next step will be topping and some LST I guess. Whoop whoop!
Day 29: Upped the light to 80% and did some light LST. Really happy how the do at the moment. :)
Day 30: Feeding time. 4 Days since the last watering. Topsoil bonedry. Each plant got 1l of nutrient water.
Day 31: Seeing them happy, makes me happy aswell. :)
Day 33: Feeding time. 3 Days since the last watering. Each plant got 1.1l of nutrient water. Try to keep them low with LST.
Day 34: Last Day of Week 2 in Veg. LST and topping. Next week will be the last week of veg.
Week 5 - Day 35 from seed
So i really wanted to decide when to do the flip. If i substract the height of the equipment and the recommended distance to the lights, i am left with 65cm of space for the final size of the plants. If the actual stretch will be 2.5 times the actual size when flipping, i can let them grow to about 26cm (without any training). The lengths from soil to top is 20cm at the moment and i just topped them.
For my first grow i want to be as safe as possible to reach the end of flower successfully. And because i just snappes the main stem of one of the plants, i actually want them to recover for a week and then do the flip.
I tried to fix the broken stem with tape and a bit of support to take some weight of her. Hopefully allowing her to heal.
They started to smell a bit, which i think is a good sign. So the priority for this week is recovery first, LST on the (hopefully) new growing tops to give them the best light possible to get an even canopy at the switch to flower.
We'll see how that goes. Wish me luck!
Day 36: Feeding time, they were a little droopy this morning. Three days since the last watering. Each girl got 1.5l of nutrient water.
Day 38: They are doing well. I did a little more LST today. I wish i could veg them one week longer, but i really think it could mess up with the little growspace. But still happy so far. None of the hickups turned into a catastrophe... So far! :D
Day 40: Feeding Day with 1,5l nutewater and tried to install the scrognet. They seem kinda lost in there, but i hope the flowerstretch will fill the netting a bit more. I'm gonna let them chill two days and then switch to 12:12.
Day 42 from Seed - First day of flower
Switched to 12-12 as of today and i have good hope. They have about 25cm length from soil to top, so i hope it should be easy to manage the girls' height when stretching. I also switched from fish meal to grow like instructed. I plan to just let them do their thing the first days und try to tuck them in the scrog.
I did no defoliation, because i picked a few leafs during veg. But i'll give it a shot when they are comfy in the scrog. Airflow seems not be an issue at the moment.
I read a lot of different things about watering, which i kind of think i'm not doing right. But for this run i'll just stick to watering every 3-4 Days and adjust the amount of water every watering so they don't need anything for 3-4 Days. Till now they seem to be okay with that. We'll see.
Day 44: Feeding with 1,5l Nutewater each.
Day 45: Holy smokes! Amazing how they seem to grow a lot each day. Bent them down again today. Exciting times!
Day 47: Feeding with 1.5l Nutewater each. Cut down 1/3 on the nutes, because some tips look burned. So I better be careful. Watering with such low bent plants an a scrog is a pain in the ass. Note to myself: Let them grow a little bit higher dumbass.
week two of flower - 49 days since seed
Woohoo the girls made it to week two of flowering! Congrats ladies! So far it is looking quite good i think. They are growing noticable from day to day, but i feel a lot more confident that they won't outgrow the small tent (fingers crossed)
They are veeery low, about 18cm in height with the mainstems at around 28-30cm in length from soil to top. So we have another 35 - 40cm in height to work with (while respecting the ideal light distance of 40cm).
For the upcoming week i'll continue to tuck and lst them to increase the coverage while trying to maintain an even canopy. I won't defoliate, just picking the big leaves which don't get light anymore. I don't feel comfortable to defoliate, as i don't fully understand the strategy when applying the technique, so i just let it be and just remove what i think is obvious.
The lights are still dimmed to 80% because with this setting they have a nice temperature of 25°. The vpd chart i consulted showed that it is much more ideal than with 100%, which seems to give a 3-4° in temperature increase, which is not ideal according to the vpd chart.
The lights should be strong enough. The app measured between 800-900 ppfd, that should be sufficient from what i've read. So i just continue like this and maybe increase the light later down the line.
With watering, i just continue to water 25% of the pot volume when the soil is dry enough. At the moment its still every 3 days.
Because of the light nute burn (burnt tips) they had last week, i'll continue to feed 25% less of the growfertilizer and follow the chart with the others.
I'm happy how my first grow goes and i'm excited to see how it plays out. Happy growing!
Day 50: Feeding time. Feeding in three steps. First misting the soil, then give them 0.5l plain water. 10 Minutes later 1l of nutrient water and 15 minutes later again 0.5l of nutrient water.
Day 54: Feeding time
Day 56 - Start of Week three of flower
Plucked a few of the huge fanleaves and did some LST. They look good and i'm very happy about it. So i'm gonna keep the same regimen as before and hope it goes as well as last week.
Day 57 - Feeding Day. Still cutting a bit back on the nutes and will return to the feeding chart if they look fine. I'll let them get some height this week and just try to balance out the canopy if necessary.
Day 60 - Feeding Day. Nutes still cut back 20% Experimented with turning the lights on 100%. Waaay to hot >29°. So i stay at 80% and hope its enough.
Day 63, First Day of week 4 Flower:
The ladies look good, buds are starting to form. I have two leafes that are yellowing on one plant (una). At the same timw the other leafs are darker than on the other plant.
I think its too early to be natural fading, so i checked everything. I had 2-3 fungus gnats in the tent, so put in some yellow stickies. But i doubt that they are the cause of the yellowing. But something to keep an eye on.
I think they can't be over- or underwatered. No Light or Heatstress, feeding was at 80% of the recommended schedule (so no nuteburn), windburn could not be possible, so the next easy guess is the ph is way off. The low leaf yellow indicates problems with N or P (mobile macros), so it has to be pests or ph. I don't think i underfed them with 80% of the recommended dose.
I didn't want to test the runoff, because i just discovered a few gnats and didn't want to increase that problem. But checked the ph of my tapwater and it was around 8, which is way higher than the last testing i did (6.9).
With nutes added the ph was 7.2. But because of the slight nuteburn last week, i watered partially just with plain water. I think there could be the issue and its good fixing that anyway.
So i watered them today with ph controlled nute water with a 6.2 PH and we'll see what it does. Fingers crossed. Best case scenario would be that it is an early fading and no more leafs show yellowing (and i identified two potential problems along the way). Good lessons to learn.
Day 65: The problems seem not to be getting worse, so thats nice. But i'm still sceptical. Going back to the full feeding schedule with the next watering and set PH at 6.0. Hope they'll like it.
Day 67: Okay it is getting worse... Well Shit. Waited 4 Days to water again, to fight the gnats. Feeding day with 2l nutewater for each plant. Full on schedule with 6.3 PH. I'm kinda lost right now. The Gnats have not been spotted anymore, the stickies remain clean. PH is on, feeding should be sufficient. Guess i'll just wait 2-3 Days and watch how she takes it. Hmmm... It looks like a potassium deficiency (according to google). So with the full feed today, it should get better i hope (and pray).
Day 69: Oh boy! They really look fucked up... So... the discoloring doesn't seem to get worse, but they developed rusty leaves over night. So new theory:
As long as the water had fully added nutes, the ph was just enough to let them absorb some of the nutrients. But my caution about nuteburn led to watering with tapwater (without checking the ph) what led to a nutrient lockout which is now. So they absorb all of the nutes the could not uptake the last two weeks and now they got severe nuteburn.
So i try to flush them with a lot of (ph adjusted!) tapwater and see if they get better. God i feel like such a moron. 🙈
Second Day Week 5 of Flower: Day 71
So i hope i reached rock bottom and it goes up from here. The ladies look like they've been slaughtered. But i flushed them two days ago with 5l of pure ph'ed water. Because my PH Meter broke on that day i wasn't able to give them nutes in a controlled fashion. New PH Meter is on the way and should be here in a day or two.
So biggest question now is: Do i eyeball the ph down for this feeding, which i am quite hesitant to do honestly or do i wait for the ph meter and feed them then?
Well damage is done, the fuck up has happened so i guess i wait for the ph meter. Maybe its worse, but at least i'll know i get the meters correct. They still are moist enough so i guess they have to suffer a bit more for a day or two. Sorry ladies! I try my best!
Found a workaround for my dilemma: I could get some ph teststrips (for aquariums) and fed the ladies with 1l of nutewater each. Lets see what happens. So Day 71 is the first feeding day of this week.
Day 72: After overcoming the shock involved with seeing the girls look so fucked up its time for some notes for my next grow (of course i try to ride this rocky road till the end):
- Biobizz says, usually you don't have to adjust the ph when using their fertilizer and i think they are right. Things started to go downhill FAST when i started to give a third of the feeding with plain water. I thought it'd do them good because i diagnosed some burned tips (and i thought it was nute burn). So because my tapwater has a PH in the 8-8.5 range and the nutrient water a way different one, that could be the main reason why they are looking like they are now --> high fluctuation in PH (and plain water ph beeing to high for the soil to buffer)
From now on:
--> TEST PH (!) Best case i'm gonna check every week when changing according to feed chart.
--> Adjust the PH so that every watering is around the same level. Best between (6.5 - 6.8)
--> When cutting on fertilizer, give less nutes to the full watering. Don't give them half/half.
--> Have some PH Strips around in case of emergency
Lots of learning for one week. Remember: The idiot always sits in front of the tent.
Day 73: PH Pen arrived yesterday (and some PH strips for emergencies😋) Feeding Day: 1l each (still a bit moist) with a 6.6 PH. The ladies still look rough, but at least they seem not to feel horrible and the rusting has stopped/seems not to get worse. And they smell delicious. Phew! Fingers crossed!
Day 75: Still looking like the rusting stopped. There is hope :D
Day 76: Feeding Day. 1.5l nutrient water for each. PH 6.6
Day 77. First Day of Week 6 of Flower
I can't believe that these girls managed to suffer to week 6 of flower. They are looking rough, but smell awesome! A slight citrusy dank aroma fills up your nostrils when you open the tent. Its pure joy! And they start looking really tasty. So i hope all the fuckups are done and we'll cruise through till the end.
Day 79: Feeding Day(1.5l each according to feeding chart with 6.6 PH) Its funny to see the two plants looking so different. Una got the bright green and seconda is rocking a slight purple appearance. May be due to the damage done to the individual plants but they are living up to their origin strains: green crack and purple punch. The first trichomes are cloudy and i am so glad to see that they are slowly reaching their last lifecycle.
There is almost a bit of stress involved when "suddenly" having to think about harvest timing, when to expect to start flushing, drying, curing etc. since two weeks ago i didn't expect to harvest anything. So i'm very happy to be in that position now. And i guess i still have two to three weeks time for planning.Yay!
Day 81: The girls are doing great. This morning it seemed like the buds have fattened up a bit over the last two days. They are also getting darker. Although i consider the flowering phase to be quite boring (emergencies and problems excluded), its very pleasing to watch them just do their thing. At the moment i'm quite confident the last few weeks will be a chill cruise and i'm just enjoying watching the ride.
Day 82: Feeding Day (1.5l each according to feeding chart with 6.6 PH). So to the planing ov harvest: RQS says flowering time for green crack punch is 8-9 weeks. We are reaching the end of week 6 of flower. So IF we'd harvest at 8 weeks, i should start flushing next week according to the biobizz feeding chart. So until now i see some cloudy trichomes, but still most are clear.
Thats why i'm gonna feed them the next week according to the chart and start flushing at the beginning of week 8. I don't expect it to be finished at the end of week 8. So i guess i'll go with that. Because beginners always want to harvest to early.
First Day of Week 7 of Flower/Day 84 from seed:
So we are coming to the last chapter of my first grow. 3 weeks max until harvest (says RQS) and i am happy that the girls made it that far. The last week was pretty quite with not much to worry about (besides planing the harvest) and i'm looking forward to the rest.
The buds don't seem to grow a lot any more, but they are getting quite frosty and especially stinky. Its a joy! They are not as big as i hoped at the beginning, but it will be enough to really celebrate this first grow. And thats more than enough, thinking about the major fuckups that happened... And we are not there yet!😬 #fingerscrossed
For this week i'll feed them according to the feeding chart and start flushing at the beginning of next week. Humidity and temps are fine and stable, PH is getting tested every feeding (6.5), Lighting is at 1600 ppfd/70 DLI and no more pests as far as i can tell. Looking good! Happy growing 🌱
Day 85: Feeding Day with 1.5l of nutewater, PH of 6.5. This will be their secondlast feeding and then the flushing starts until they are finished.
Day 89: Feeding day. A day later than usual, because i was away. The last meal for my ladies, its only waterfasting from now on. temps were a bit higher the last two days because summer is here and i can't let the tent open because of smell. Temps at about 27.5° degrees average during the day inside the tent (spiking at 29.2°). But i got airflow from two fans so it should be fine.
Day 91; First Day of week 8 of flowering:
The finishline is in sight! I really love everything about this stage: the colours, the smell, there is so much beauty and i'm really looking forward when they're done. I'm not in a hurry, but i guess from now on its two weeks max until chopping. Trichomes are about 50% cloudy, 45% clear and 5% amber. They had their last feeding two days ago and from now it is just waterfasting for the ladies.
So i'm trying to plan out the harvesting process while the girls are finishing up. i got all the stuff i need for it (except some coat hangers, memo for myself). I plan to wet trim them and leave as much of the stems intact to slow down drying. Because of summer the temps will be not optimal for the dryingprocess, so i need everything to slow it down. I'll dry in the tent because of the smell and hope that goes well.
While the ladies dry, i'll germinate the seeds for my second run. Because i'll be away for two weeks in september i decided i'll run autoflowers. They should be easily finished by then and i'll just need someone to burp the jars while i am away. And because it is summer i'm gonna run two strains and grow a plant of each strain indoors and outdoors at the same time to experience the differences. I'm hyped about that!
Day 92: Watering each plant with 1.5l plain water (PH 6.4). Autumn is really kicking in now, i found and removed a couple of dead leaves today.
Day 95: Watering day! 1.5l plain water (PH 6.5) for each lady. They are throwing more and more leaves, trichs are about 30% clear, 60% cloudy and 10% amber. They are making progress!
Day 99, Week 9 of flower:
Chopping week! They are almost ready. Now its just a matter of days. I'll say between 2 and 3. Not sure yet if i should wet or dry trim, because the temperature is pretty high and i don't want them to dry to fast. But i'll decide that when it is time. Wohooo! Last week, we did it!
Day 101: It is time! I'd let them a few days, but the landlord is visiting next week, so better be careful😊 So due date for the ladies. I decided to manicure them a bit and then dry trim when they are ready. 😊
So my first grow was really bumby and i encountered major problems for three times. First was a deficiency in the early veg stage, a broken mainstem in the late vegphase and two weeks of a wrong ph during flower. So enough to kill i guess, but these ladies went through all the way to harvest. So there is nothing bad i can say, they take a punch growing and punch you with a sweet mild high when smoking. Brilliant!
I learned a lot during my first grow and i am more than happy that i got a nice smokable yield.
