First grow experience! 20230304 - Started germination of seeds. 20230307 - Just put my first pair of germinated OG Kush Fast seeds (Herbies) into soil and am looking forward to the journey. I layered my pots with 3:1 Fox Farms Ocean Forest : Clay Pebbles on the bottom (70% total volume) and 3:1 Fox Farms Happy Frog : Clay Pebbles on the top (30% total volume). My thought being that the Happy Frog mix would be gentler on the seedlings when they're first getting started. After watering I placed a humidity dome over the seeds to help avoid the soil from drying out.

I am growing with a AC Infinity Cloudline T4 4" ventilation fan that is set to run 3min @ speed 1 and then rest for 27min. Even with these low settings in my basement the temperature probe reads nearly a 10F drop by the time the fan cycles off. Afterwards it takes about 3-5min for the tent to get back up to temperature. These settings may change as the season gets hotter and the grow progresses. 20230311 - Day 1: OG Kush #1 (OGK1) opened up! Water 20230312 - Day 2: 20230313 - Day 3: Water 20230314 - Day 4: Increased light cycle to 20hrs from 18hrs. 20230315 - Day 5: 2nd set of leaves just starting to come out! Water 20230316 - Day 6: 20230317 - Day 7: OGK1 survived a week! Unfortunately, the other seed, despite germinating, has still failed to break the soil. I'm not confident things will change, but will continue watering and monitoring through next week before giving up on it. Water

20230318 - Day 8: 20230319 - Day 9: 3rd node is showing itself. Water 20230320 - Day 10: Added an AC Infinity Cloudray S6 6" oscillating fan to the tent and set it to run @ speed 1 blowing above the plant while the lights are running. 20230321 - Day 11: Water 20230322 - Day 12: Seems like the fan is doing its job in circulating air within the tent, which has caused a slight change in my temp and humidity readings now that things aren't as stagnant in there. In addition. the tent is starting to adopt a hint of cannabis sent upon opening. 20230323 - Day 13: 4th node is showing as well as all 4 lower shoots from nodes 1 and 2. Decided to give up on the 2nd plant today as it still hasn't shown itself after 2 weeks. Water 20230324 - Day 14:

20230325 - Day 15: 3rd node shoots sprouted. Fan leaves have started to reach the edge of the pot so she got her first large watering today (0.5 gal). 20230326 - Day 16: 5th node showing. With the current rate of growth I am planning on topping at the end of the week and potentially trying to clone the top as a second plant. Water just to darken the top soil to ensure yesterday's bigger watering had full coverage. 20230327 - Day 17: 20230328 - Day 18: 4th node shoots sprouted. 6th node showing. The humidity in the tent has continued to climb with the increased watering. In an attempt to keep it below 75% I'll be making some slight adjustments to the ventilation fan schedule. Today the cycle was changed to 4min ON/26min OFF @ speed 1. I am hesitant to run the fan constantly to avoid a significant drop in temperature during the day, but will continue to play with this as time goes on to find a sweet spot. I'll also note that the smell over the past couple of days has increased quite significantly, possibly due to the increased humidity. Water 20230329 - Day 19: 20230330 - Day 20: Further adjusted the ventilation cycle to 6min ON/24min OFF @ speed 1 as the previous minor change had no impact. I'm anticipating to have to continue making adjustments, but will do so incrementally until I can find a sweet spot. I also held off an additional watering, as the soil is still quite moist from the larger watering earlier this week. 20230331 - Day 21: Changed the ventilation cycle again to 3min ON/27OFF @ speed 2. Unfortunately the longer run time resulted in a drop in daytime temp below 70F and no change to humidity, so we'll see if the faster speed and shorter time makes a difference instead. Today was also topping day! I cut just above the 4th node, recut the topping at 45 degrees, dipped the tip in some Clonex rooting gel and stuck her into a Root Riot Planter Starter Cube resting in some perlite with a good watering. Now we play the waiting game to see if she can root herself and give me a second plant to grow!

20230401 - Day 22: The node shoots from below are already making their way through the upper fan leaves that I decided to leave in place after topping. The top clone itself is not looking so hot at Day 2. The fan leaves are drooping and starting to yellow. There is certainly a chance it won't root, but I am hoping it will start to perk up in the next 24hrs. Will check again this afternoon and will drain any water still in the pot to ensure it's not continuously being absorbed by the root cube, as the over saturation there could be an issue. 20230402 - Day 23: The node shoots are rapidly popping up through the fan leaf canopy, way faster than I anticipated after topping. I am considering whether or not so low stress training implemented now would help her to bush out a bit more instead of reaching for the sky. Will continue to reflect. The top clone hasn't changed from yesterday. Still looking super sad with further yellowing at the tips of the fan leaves. Water 20230403 - Day 24: I decided to give some LST a try using some dowels, safety pins and hand made wire hooks. Initially, it looked like things would be a success, but when I checked her after lights out I found one of her branches had snapped 😧! I tried a simple fix with some scotch tape. The end of the limb itself was still looking good, so I'm hoping it will just be stressed for a bit and self repair with time. The other limbs seem to be handling things well though. The top clone fan leaves have begun to yellow further and she is still looking super sad, but I'm not giving up on her yet. 20230404 - Day 25: Aside from the broken limb, which is looking much less happy today, the plant is growing great! I may need to do something about the shoots towards the top or they'll start to out-grow everything else in a couple more days. It's also about time to take off the upper fan leaves to allow more light through the canopy as I move towards switching to flowering his girl. I think I'll do some pruning early next week and then flip her the week after. The top clone hasn't gotten any worse, but also hasn't gotten any better, so I'll continue to give her more time to recover. Water 20230405 - Day 26: Definitely will do some pruning at the start of week 5. The broken limb is perking up a bit. A couple of the fan leaves on there are still looking pretty wilted, but the rest of it is growing well now. The top clone seems to actually be perking up! The leaves are less wilted and feel firmer. I am hoping this is a sign some rooting is occurring, although I still can't see anything obvious. Will likely move monitoring this clone to another diary after this week if things continue to progress well. 20230406 - Day 27: The two fan leaves on the broken limb are still pretty limp, but the rest of the limb is doing great, so I am getting hopeful it can stay. The top clone has managed to "survive" a whole week! I'm going to continue posting on her in another diary starting tomorrow in hopes she might actually survive. 20230407 - Day 28: While one of the fan leaves on the broken limb yellowed up, the whole limb is now looking otherwise healthy. I have a defoliation planned for tomorrow so it's likely this one will just come off when the larger fan leaves are removed from higher up on the canopy. Water

20230408 - Day 29: Defoliation day! With some additional LST afterwards to spread out the canopy a bit more. She's handled everything very well so far. I primarily focused on removing just the larger fan leaves and the lower leaves and shoots that would be shaded after the LST. There is still quite a bit of foliage left behind compared to others I've seen, but I didn't want to take things too far on my first go. Will start adding nutrients with my next feeding in preparation for flipping next week or the week after depending on how she grows this week. 20230409 - Day 30: She seems to have recovered nicely from the defoliation. I am going to continue with adapting the LST through this week to even out the canopy and get the 8 main branches more or less even in height before switching her over to flowering. Nutrients were started today. I plan on feeding every other water moving forward and will monitor how she responds. Nutrient water 20230410 - Day 31: Some additional minor LST adjustments, but otherwise she's looking good. 20230411 - Day 32: 20230412 - Day 33: Looks like some female stigma are beginning to pop up around some of the bud sites, which is comforting. Water 20230413 - Day 34: Removed a few fan leaves from the upper canopy to let light reach the node shoots being shaded below. 20230414 - Day 35: I moved the other plants out of this tent today in preparation for changing the light cycle over to 12/12. I was planning on making the swap tomorrow, but am now leaning towards letting her veg for one more week to fill out her canopy a bit more. She has a lot of new growth and seems to be requiring a bit more water with each feeding. Nutrient water

20230415 - Day 36: I noticed some minor light burn on some of the fan leaves this morning, likely because I let the light get a little too close as she's been growing over the past week. I readjusted the light height and will continue to monitor it more closely. 20230416 - Day 37: A little more light LST before nights out to try to flatten her top out a bit more. I can't quite decide when I want to flip her. Based on some of the pre-flowers showing, I know she's ready, but if I can get her to spread just a bit more I'll have a bigger canopy to work with for yield. Decisions... Decisions... 20230417 - Day 38: Nutrient water 20230418 - Day 39: I have decided that I am happy with how she's looking this week and plan on switching her over to flowering. 20230419 - Day 40: After taking a careful look at my calendar I determined I needed to start flowering now to ensure I have time to harvest and cure prior to a scheduled vacation this summer. While the best laid plans often go awry I think this gives me the best shot of success. Plus the timing should coincide with when my auto-flowering plants will need to be harvested. Here's to hoping this is the right call. I also defoliated a few of the lower fan leaves that were beginning to fade. 20230420 - Day 41: First day after the switch and all seems well. Water 20230421 - Day 42: She was definitely a bit dehydrated yesterday, as can be seen by comparing the pictures above.

20230422 - Day 43: I officially made the switch to flowering (12/12). Nutrient water 20230423 - Day 44: I defoliated a few lower fan leaves that had started to yellow and were more interior to the plant to help with air circulation throughout, but otherwise she's looking healthy. 20230424 - Day 45: Not sure when she might start to stretch, but so far her upward growth has been pretty subtle. I think she has developed a nice canopy though, so I am excited for the next couple of months assuming I can keep her alive and well! 20230415 - Day 46: Leaves were still looking firm so I am going to wait one more day before watering her again. 20230426 - Day 47: Changed up the nutrients today for watering to Fox Farms Tiger Bloom + Big Bloom. Nutrient water 20230427 - Day 48: 20230438 - Day 49: Had to snap a pic today after lights out. Otherwise she's still looking good.

20240429 - Day 50: Just starting week 2 of flowering. She was a little dehydrated for her pic today, but should perk up after some watering. Water 20230430 - Day 51: Compared to an auto I have growing in my other tent she really hasn't started to show any signs of stretching. I am wondering if this is the week she starts to grow. As of right now, her flowering progress seems pretty slow, but at least she's healthy! I defoliated a couple of fan leaves that were slightly wilted and starting to yellow in her lower canopy. 20230501 - Day 52: Nutrient water 20230502 - Day 53: Defoliated about a dozen fan leaves from the lower and interior canopy trying to open up some breathing room in there. 20230503 - Day 54: I think some stretching is finally starting. Hopefully some bud development starts next. 20230504 - Day 55: 20230505 - Day 56: Water

20230506 - Day 57: Looks like she is finally starting to build up some bud sites. 20230507 - Day 58: Started noticing a lot of the lower fan leaves are yellowing quickly. The new growth looks healthy though so I'm thinking it's natural resource management. Will keep on eye on things though. 20230508 - Day 59: Defoliated a few more yellow fan leaves. Nutrient water 20230509 - Day 60: She's is still quite the bush. I am noticing that the lower fan leaves continue to slowly yellow and am wondering if, in the future, I should defoliate more of them to help some of the lower bud sites prosper. For this run I'll just continue to defoliate them as I see them. 20230510 - Day 61: I decided to do a bigger defoliation today and removed a couple dozen lower leaves. Her canopy is still looking real nice and thick so I'm thinking little light is making it to the base as this point anyway. 20230511 - Day 62: 20230512 - Day 63: Definitely put on a bit of height this week. She's looking super happy right now.

20230513 - Day 64: Defoliated a few more lower, yellow fan leaves I missed last week. 20230514 - Day 65: 20230515 - Day 66: The buds are definitely starting to get a bit frosty. A lot of the remaining lower fan leaves are turning yellow now. Assuming this is a natural part of the process but I'll continue to monitor them. Added some cal-mag to the nutrient mix since everything I've read suggests this is a good idea. Nutrient water 20230516 - Day 67: Lots of additional yellowing fan leaves lower in the plant. I am now beginning to wonder whether or not this natural vs an indication that something may be off. 20230517 - Day 68: More yellowing and the upper bud sites seem to be fading. I think this may be an indication of a nitrogen deficiency likely caused by nutrient lockout. While I haven't been using a lot of additional nutrients during this process, I am otherwise struggling to come up with a rationale explanation. One area I have been failing to monitor is the pH of my feed and the run-off, so it could be possible I have an issue there. My solution... well for now I flushed her with a gallon of water. I'm hoping that if lockout is the issue then this will be my best bet to try to rectify. Will hold off on any additional feeding for now and will continue to monitor. FLUSH 20230518 - Day 69: Mixed up some super light nutrients with nitrogen last night and confirmed the pH was 6.5 this morning before giving her a bit. Will leave the soil to dry out before any further feeding and will continue to monitor. 20230519 - Day 70: She ended up dropping about a dozen of her lower fan leaves last night that succumbed to the nutrient lockout, but otherwise, it doesn't seem like she's been getting any worse, which is reassuring. I will continue to monitor her closely but am assuming a lot of the other leaves will fall shortly as well. Hopefully the bud sites remain healthy and robust and this whole incident will just result in a smaller yield rather than a total loss.

Entering week 5 of flowering on this photoperiod and she's experiencing wide-spread yellowing in leaves over past week. Haven't been monitoring pH or PPM, but am assuming this is nitrogen deficiency due to nutrient lockout. Can anyone confirm or recommend treatment beyond flush

When you go into bloom you dont cut you grow nutes out, you just tune it down some. A little nitrogen is still needed to maintain leaf health. Start out when first going into bloom with half bloom half veg nutes. Decrease the grow each feed after that. Around the 5th week mark is when you should be at no more grow and straight bloom and boosters.

20230520 - Day 71: 20230521 - Day 72: Defoliated another dozen leaves this morning but I think most of the trauma from the nutrient lockout may now be subsiding. The rest of her seems to be greening up again and the buds are looking healthy. Will supplement with a bit more nitrogen this week to ensure she's fine for the rest of her flowering time. 20230522 - Day 73: 20230523 - Day 74: Her buds are beginning to swell and her leaves aren't showing signs of further deterioration! Hooray! 😃 20230524 - Day 75: Nutrient water 20230525 - Day 76: Her buds are continuing to swell. She is otherwise still looking good coming into the last couple weeks. 20230526 - Day 77: Leaving for a long weekend. I gave her a good watering to make it through. Water

Randomly tried capturing pics outside of the tent and under the grow light and the color appearance of the buds is crazy night and day. I am guessing that the whole nutrient burn situation that got out of hand weeks ago caused her to herm on me a bit, but I missed any male flowers that might have showed up. Otherwise, I still think I'll get some good bud out of her. Maybe not as potent, but I have learned a lot through this first run and am sure things will go more smoothly next time around.
