Hello and welcome to the Lemon Orange!
I've got quite the passion for Greenhouse Seed Company as a fan of strainhunters as well as a fan of well, their strains! 😀 I've got to tell you, the Super Lemon Haze is one of my all time favorites and I would argue that its one of the best cultivars on the planet. So when I found out that Greenhouse developed a new cultivar using the Super Lemon Haze as a parent, I knew that I had to get my hands on it. Since GHSC doesn't ship to where I live, it took me a long time to find a reputable seedbank that carried the Lemon Orange. I usually use NASC as they carry GHSC genetics, (and they're dope AF) but unfortunately they haven't carried the Lemon Orange yet. This time, I used attitude as they apparently have a company based in my country now.
Speaking of attitude, they hooked me up with so many freebies and the shipping was pretty quick. I told them to draw a wizard on the box/shipping package and they actually did it! Those fucking madmen over there are great and I would definitely recommend them at the time of this writing. I digress.
For this run, I will be running both the Lemon Orange and the Chemdog D (CSI Humboldt) in the same tent. As usual, I will keep the diaries separate for simplicity's sake (and so you don't have to scroll through diaries/images of a plant you don't care about.) I am going to veg both plants out in my veg tent as I finish up my current two plants in my flower tent. Once the flower tent is empty, I will be moving the Lemon Orange and Chemdog D to the flower tent. My flower tent is a 3x3 Ac Infinity tent (Ive got all the swag too) with a Mars Hydro FC-E3000.
I germinated the plants via Glass of Water/Paper Towel method. The seed gets 24 hours in the glass of water, and then gets placed into a wet paper towel. I place the paper towel between two dinner plates to keep the moisture in. A few days later, and voila! We have a taproot!
After the taproot developed to be about an inch long, I placed the seedling taproot down into my soil mix consisting of 50% Happy Frog, 50% Light Warrior and a little bit of worm castings. I usually just place seedlings into pure Happy Frog in the past, but I'm not too thrilled about the consistency of Happy Frog right out of the bag. There's a bunch of large woodchips that end up getting in the way, and in my opinion hampers initial root growth. I'm not completely sold on this however, which is why I'm changing it up. 😀
She poked out of the soil in another day and sprouted her cotyledons!
P.S. By the way, my favorite strainhunters expeditions are probably India and South Africa. It must have been amazing rafting down that river in SA surrounded by the beautiful nature and then walking through remote fields of cannabis. My favorite shot is the scene of Arjan and Dust checking out some plants together while the sun sets over the field in the distance. Very beautiful.
The Lemon Orange sprouted on 3/10 with cotyledons in full view! She's been growing steadily since then with surprising vigor. Despite sprouting at the same time as the Chemdog D, the Lemon Orange is noticeably bigger and more vigorous. I'm very excited to see her grow.
I've just been watering as needed at a 6.5 PH. The lights (Mars Hydro TSW 2000) are hanging at about 36 inches above the plant. I plan on having the plants grow up into the light, so I don't expect to move the light (until I move the plants into the flower tent.)
Temps in the tent are good, swinging between 63-78f between night and day. The humidity is a problem however, at it gets down to 30% some nights! I am reluctant to put a humidifier in the tent as my water leaves calcium deposits everywhere! Hopefully the weather changes here soon. 😀
I plan on transplanting these girls into 10 gallon fabric pots this time around. Just coasting until then.
Welcome to week 2! Just keeping the Lemon Orange wet when she needs it and will probably transplant in her final pot in the next few days. I'll be potting her into a 10 gallon fabric pot with 50% Ocean Forest and 50% Happy Frog. Her growth has slowed down a bit in the last few days to which I attribute to the very low humidity as well as needing a transplant. I may just cave and put the humidifier in the tent until I get her transplanted.
Hello and welcome to week 3.
I transplanted the Lemon on day 15 of veg in a 10 gallon fabric pot. I took her out of her container, sprinkled some great white myco on the roots as well as the hole, and planted her snugly into the pot. It seems she took well to the transplant as she has been growing very well and she looks very healthy. She is a bit bigger than the Chemdog D, specifically around 7-7.5 inches in height compared to the Chemdog which is at 5.5-6 inches in height. Both plants are now about 24 inches below the light at full intensity. I plan on having the plants grow up into the light until I move them into the flower tent (which should be in the next week or so.)
I decided to move up to 10 gallon pots because I believe they will give me better results in flower for organic growing. Having more pot space will allow for greater potential yields and having more soil will help prevent early nutrient deficiencies. This run I plan on giving a heavy dry amendment topdress of Build-a-Soil Craft Blend at around day 45, or 4 weeks of the plants being in their final containers.
So far the Lemon Orange has been doing great. No problems yet and I hope it continues that way! Will probably top her in the next few days followed by moving her into the flower tent after that. See you next week!
Going into week four of the Lemon Orange. I topped her on day 22 and she has responded wonderfully. Good rate of growth and I expect her to continue to grow well until flip.
The idea this run is to LST her two new tops as well as two of the lower branches to make a nice even canopy before putting the SCROG net up. I will then stop LST and train her branches under the net. Lollipop will happen a week to a few days before flower. This time around, I think I will take the lower branches off but keep most of the fan leaves.
I've got to decide when I want to flower her. I would prefer to flower at 6 weeks, however I want to try to pull near a pound from the 3x3. I don't want to have to veg for 8+ weeks to accomplish this, however if I feel like the plants are too small I will begrudgingly push flowering to 7 or even 8 weeks.
I also need to think about when I want to feed her. Last grow, I decided to feed at week 7 in a 7 gallon pot which lead to a potassium deficiency. I was originally thinking that I would feed her at week 6-7 this grow but now I'm thinking I should top dress maybe sometime next week. I'm hoping the extra 3 gallons of soil provides some extra nutrients while the dry amendments break down.
I am very happy to show you the growth on the Lemon Orange. She is vigorous and is filling the 10 gallon pot nicely. She is growing extremely well in soil, so much that I'm a little surprised.
I started LST this week. I'm not trying to go too hard on the LST as I'll be training her under the scrog net soon. Just trying to get her canopy to be nice and even without spending too much time and effort on the training.
As you can see, some of her fan leaves are FAT, so much so that they are probably blocking a good amount of light.
I will be feeding her tomorrow with dry amendments. Will probably do a topdress of 10-20 tbsp of build a soil craft blend and a cup or two of worm castings. I also want to feed her a compost tea, but that will have to come later next week. I also want to start training her under the SCROG net, but I need to get a disposable one first as I don't really want to use my non-disposable one.
It looks like we are on track to flower soon. I wanted to flower her at the beginning of week 6 of veg but I think I'll have to push it off another week because I want to lollipop her and train her under the SCROG for a bit.
See you next week!
See you next week!
At the beginning of this week I top dressed the Lemon Orange with 12 tbsp of BuildASoil's Craft Blend and 2 cups of worm castings. I've decided to top dress every two weeks from now on until late flower. I will probably up the nutrients to around 20 tbsp next feeding as we are getting close to flower.
Speaking of being close to flower, I think I'll be able to switch the light cycle this week. I previously thought I would have to veg her out for another week or two but it may just end up being a few days to a week extra. The two plants are getting large and are almost ready.
I will do a lollipop and partial defoliation sometime early next week. I've decided against taking off a bunch of fan leaves which I usually did using bottled liquid nutrients. Now that I am organic only I will keep the larger fan leaves at the bottom that I usually prune in case my feeding is insufficient. I want those large fan leaves there not only to provide the plant with the mobile nutrients it needs during flower but also to give me an early warning of a possible deficiency. That being said, I will need to get rid of some of them. I will attempt to tuck as many of them I can in hopes of providing enough light to the lower budsites. Most of the lower branches that don't make the top of the canopy will be cut off.
The plants have started to smell despite not even being in flower yet with the Lemon Orange smelling the most. The smell is a classic marijauan smell until you get close to the plant and smell its leaves. No joke, it has a strong orangey citrus smell.
I got me a disposable SCROG net and put it up on day 40. I want a few days to be able to train the plants under the net, then I will need a few days after lollipop/defoliation for plant recovery before I flip to flower. I expect to flip either middle or late next week.
I moved the light up to 24 inches above the canopy to hopefully encourage a little bit more stretch.
See you next week!
At the beginning of this week I did a very minor defoliation/lollipop as well as started training the branches under the first SCROG net. I also flipped her to flower this week. She is growing very well with no visible issues.
Now that we are in spring and will be entering summer shortly, the temps and humidity have shot up pretty significantly. I'm not too worried about the temps, but the humidity is a huge issue. Now that the plants have been getting big and the humidity has been rolling in, I've been getting up to 75% RH in my tent during lights off some rainy nights! This is an issue, but it will become a major issue later in flower if not handled. Unfortunately I have little tools or methods to lower RH outside of a decent dehumidifier, and I don't think that will work as its too big to place in the tent and I'm not growing in small room.
I will most likely be forced to do a heavier defoliation to lower the tent's RH and to get some better airflow towards the bottom of the plant. I'm a bit concerned with this as I don't want to stress the plants out too much and cause some sort of issue. I can't just fix nutrient deficiencies quickly as I'm organic and I don't want to have to risk a deficiency by taking off too many leaves. I'm still relatively new to organic growing so I'm still feeling out how charged my soil is at any given time.
I'm going to give her a heavy feeding of craft blend tomorrow as well as a compost tea. Started brewing up a batch today with 2 tbsps of molasses, 1 tsp of craft blend, and 2 cups of worm castings and will be feeding them tomorrow. Hopefully the soil is charged enough that I don't have any deficiency issues going into flower.
No pistils yet, but pretty rapid growth starting. Expecting to see pistils form next week.
Second week of flower and she is developing pistils and stretching like crazy. This week I fed her 16tbsp of Craft Blend and 2 cups of worm castings as well as a compost tea. She's looking beautiful with no visible issues on her leaves. I've been fighting high humidity and have been able to squeeze a small dehumidifier in the back of the tent which has helped to keep the RH around 55-65%. Unfortunately it has also risen the temperature in the tent and during the day it can reach up to 84f. Its not much of a problem now, but I'll either have to leave the humidifier off during lights on, turn my lights down, or increase the speed of the extraction fan at some point.
I've taken quite a bit of growth off the bottom but I think I'll have to do a bit more. So far so good boys 👍
Going into the third week of flower and she's still stretching like crazy. She looks very healthy and her leaves have been praying up towards the light. Pistils are getting longer and buds are starting to form.
I've had to move the light up quite a few times and it seems I can't go any higher! I may be able to squeeze a few inches by moving the carbon filer and fan up a bit more. I really hope they don't stretch anymore, but I'm sure I've got another few weeks of this 😀.
The dehumidifier has been working okay. Messing around with my Controller 69 and I've managed to get around 78-81f during the day with the dehumidifier on by increasing the speed of the extraction fan. The RH during the day is around 45-55 and at night it can reach up to 65%. This is acceptable assuming it stays this way during the rest of flower. Its not ideal, especially since the dehumidifier blows out hot air towards the back left of the tent but it will have to do. I don't want budrot and if I have to raise the temps by 10 or so degrees I'll do it. If temps and RH rise over the course of the next 6 weeks or so I'll have to consider lowering light intensity which I definitely do not want to be forced to do. What I would give for a proper lung room.
I'm really kicking myself in the butt for not defoliating more. This girl is getting large and there is just a giant mass of fan leaf in the center of the canopy. As you can see, light cannot easily penetrate down into plant due to how many fan leaves there are at the top as well. Tucking them only makes the center of the plant have less light and air. I am worried about mold and high humidity and I would love to just commit to a giant haircut if not for the possibility of causing a deficiency.
Some of the lower leaves are dying off. I hope I'm not getting the dreaded K deficiency like I had last grow. I've been on top of feeding this time (and I'm in 10 gallon pots) so I'm not too worried though. Speaking of feeding, I'll probably be feeding her and the Chemdog D early next week with 20 or so tbsp of Craft Blend and a compost tea.
These girls are really big, maybe the biggest plants I've grown in this tent. I think a contributing factor is probably the 10 gallon pot size. If this grow ends just as well as its going I'm definitely sticking with the bigger 10 gallons from now on.
See you next week!
Going into week 4 of flower I fed her 20tbsp of Craft Blend as well as the 2 cups of worm castings and watered it in with a compost tea. She is looking great and putting on some serious mass this week. She is also very fast to develop her frost. As you can see, her sugar leaves are just covered with trichcomes. Also, the smell coming off this plant is absolutely incredible and it smells like a super sweet tangie. Its not even done and she may be my favorite smelling cultivar.
Her stretching has continued but she is now slowing down. I don't expect her to grow much taller, maybe a few inches more which is relief. It seems like she likes the Craft Blend as the fan leaves pray up towards the light whenever I water. I think I'm going to slow down on the feeding however as she's had about 2+ cups of the craft blend over the last few months. I may continue to feed her with compost teas.
Speaking of leaves, there's too many damn leaves at the top of the canopy blocking light to the lower bud sites. I'll be slowly defoliating the biggest problematic fan leaves over the course of the rest of flower. Temp and humidity have been pretty alright, with temps rarely going over 82f during the day and rh rarely going over 65 at night.
No signs of deficiency or major issue, however I do notice that some of the oldest fan leaves at the bottom of the plant are dying off as well as some tip burn here and there. Other than that, this is one healthy plant. 😀 See you next week.
Week 5 of flower and she is a beauty. Her buds are very developed despite supposedly having a 9 week flowering time. My Super Lemon Haze that I grew had a 10 week flowering time so I expect it to finish around the same time but the Lemon Orange may be finish early considering the maturity of the buds.
She is super frosty and looks absolutely incredible. The smell is out of this world and I am so excited to chop this girl. My only complaint is that I think she will yield less than average considering her structure. There seems to be a good amount of space between the buds on the stem. I'm not too worried about it though because I would rather have quality over quantity, but obviously both would be nice. 😀
I'll be giving her a light feeding next week and that will probably be it for the rest of the grow. Just going to be taking leaves off and trying to get light to the bottom of the canopy without stressing her too much.
See you next week!
Fed her 10tbsp of craft blend as well as another compost tea. I think this may be the last feeding as I've only got another 3 weeks to go. Honestly she looks like she'll be ready before 9 weeks going by the buds. She isn't putting off too many new pistils with most pistils having turned brown. Taking a look at her trichs, she's got alot of milky with very little amber. Most of the amber is on the sugar leaves. I could probably get away with harvesting the top buds in a week, but unfortunately I cannot do a staggered harvest. Its fine though, I'll wait 3 more weeks and be rewarded with amazing nugs.
Speaking of nugs, they're dense. While the quantity may not be as much as I would like, the density of the buds plus the quality of them should make up for it. This is an absolutely beautiful plant and the smells coming off of it are like nothing I've ever smelled before.
Nothing wrong with the plant other than there are a few fan leaves dying off towards the bottom of the canopy. This is fine as it allows more air and light to the bottom. The Lemon Orange is somewhat bushy but not nearly as bushy as the Chemdog D so I'm not too concerned with airflow or light penetration, although I am still defoliating leaves here and there.
Temps have risen in the tent this week, topping around 85. I would turn the de-humidifier off but if I do I get above 60% RH which is a big no-no. I really, REALLY don't want temps to be that high, but its a necessary evil to complete this grow. One day I'll build out a proper lung room with proper climate control but for now this will have to do. 😀
I'm going to say that this grow is a success. Hopefully this statement isn't premature as I've still got a few weeks left, but I should be fine (crossing my fingers for no mold). Definitely love this style of organic growing and I'm going to continue to do it from now on. See you next week for the last few weeks of the grow. 👍
Finishing up week 7 and it looks like she is ready to go. Checking the trichs, most are cloudy with a good amount of amber coming in. Even some of the lower buds have a good amount of amber on them and are displaying good maturity. She definitely could be chopped right now, but I'll have to wait another week or two for the Chemdog D to finish up. Honestly I'm really surprised at how fast this girl finished considering her parent is a SLH crossed with another Sativa. Maye I just got a fast flowering pheno? Regardless I'm super excited to chop her.
She is displaying signs of senescence. You can see some of the fan leaves become light in color and others displaying hints of color. In the next week or two she should put off beautiful colors on her fan leaves. Her buds and sugar leaves are already beautiful with many of her calyx being purple. Definitely really good bag appeal.
I've taken off a good amount of her fan leaves over the week to open her up a bit to the light and air even if it doesn't look like I've done much. I will probably continue to do so until chop. Other than that I'll be feeding her straight water until then.
I'll be attempting to chop at the end of week 8 next week if the Chemdog finishes up by then. If not, we are looking at going until week 9. See you then!
Week 8 of the Lemon Orange and she is ready to go! As you can see the plant is displaying wonderful colors, especially on some of the leaves. I wonder how she would have looked in colder weather? Going from the trichs she looks to be about done. In fact some of the top buds have alot of amber. Normally this is the point where I would chop but I would like to chop both plants down at the same time. I expected the Lemon Orange to go a bit longer and I didn't expect the Chemdog D to go as far. That's alright though, I'll give them another week tops and then chop for a total of 9 weeks flowering.
Nothing else much to report. Cannot wait to show you the harvest! See you next week for chop and the following weeks for dry/cure!
Its harvest day on day 105! The plants are ready and so am I.
She got chopped along with the Chemdog D. She's got a bit more amber than I liked but it will do. Her smells are amazing and she is absolutely covered in frost from head to toe. I cannot WAIT to smoke her and it will be a very long two weeks :D.
I'm working with 68f and 70% RH which I'm not too happy about. I've decided to do a wet trim and I've placed the extraction fan on low and the bottom clip fan on low. Crossing my fingers for no mold. Wish me luck boys!
Harvested, dried for 8 days in the tent, then placed into mason jars.
This has been a very successful grow and I'm happy to say that I will be continuing to grow organically.
Overall incredible plant. It is one of my favorites and I will definitely be growing it again. It grew vigorously and was very easy to work with and train. I expected a 9-10 week flowering time but this pheno was done in 7.5-8 weeks.
While overall I did very well, there were some things I could have done better:
-Defoliate alot more.
-SCROG a bit better.
-keep plants in target temps/humidity.
The plant produced really good buds, but there was a good amount of larfy buds towards the bottom. I definitely could have yielded more if I had just exposed those lower budsites to light via defoliation. I should have taken more leaves off. And while the SCROG did its job, I could have trained the branches a little bit better for better light distribution.
I could not control temps and humidity pretty well. Had to keep the dehumidifier in the tent due to the RH and it raised temps to 85f during late flower. That being said, the plant turned out wonderful regardless with no issues at all.
After everything we are left with 99 grams of the Lemon Orange. I would highly recommend this cultivar from Green House Seed Co if you can get your hands on it.
