Going into week 5 I am feeling pretty good about how things are progressing! Unfortunately, the photos will be a bit off color going forward. I'll do my best to get them in natural light when I can. Blackberry has received enough LST to allow side branching to level with the shoot apical meristem and keep her canopy even with LSD-25's. Though heavier LST has left her less attractive than her tentmates, I am confident it will pay off once she fills out. Currently, she is showing the most prolific flowering with pistils already forming dense knots. Gorilla Glue is a truly beautiful plant that exhibits the healthiest/densest growth of the three; unfortunately she is almost 20cm shorter and has not shown any pistils as of this update. I am hopeful that once she hits flower, likely this week if other diaries are any indicator, her stretch will get her more in line with the others. Light LST applied like a tomato cage around her base has kept her side branching very close to the top. Once she gets there, I have a feeling she will be set up for a nice flower. I would like to do a run with just several GG phenos at some point. Luckily, I have 9 seeds left! :) LSD-25 is the well-behaved one of the lot. She doesn't shine quite as much as her sisters in terms of dense vegetative growth or prolific preflowers but she is steady, doesn't give me trouble, and I could easily see her being the one to provide a proper bumper crop. Her lower waist was also cinched up with plant ties, similar to GG, to encourage her side branches to train closer to the top of the plant. . I will wait for stretch to slow before applying Canna PK 13/14 but have started Canna Boost and will likely phase out Rhizotonic in favor of Cannazym starting with the day 29 watering. I'll try to post updates this week! Thanks for following along. UPDATES: • 2018/10/06 - Day 30 ○ Some very mild yellowing in spotty fashion on Blackberry and even less so on LSD-25. I suspect I may have had last night's PH too low. Forgot to check the gallon again just before feeding. Later realized another gallon mixed at the same time with same ratios was PHd way too low Into the red zone! ○ 2gal nutrient solution mixed @ 1000ppm, dispersed between 3 plants to correct root zone PH and EC. ○ Additional leaf tucking on GG and light LST on LSD-25. • 2018/10/07 - Day 31 ○ Height: BB = 66cm (Trained) | GG = 40cm | LSD-25= 69cm ○ 2gal nutrient solution dispersed between 3 plants. Inflow solution @ 930ppm ○ Additional leaf tucking on GG. ○ Blackberry is the most sensitive to fertigation in general and seems to be the first to show drooping after daily feeding. ○ LSD-25 and GG will readily absorb any amount of water in well drained medium. ○ Some mild signs of nitrogen toxicity in LSD-25 and BB. This is likely from the accidental low PH feeding on Day 29. Yesterday's flush seems to have corrected. ○ Light positioned ~ 23cm from top of BB. • 2018/10/08 - Day 32 ○ Height: BB = 73cm (Trained) | GG = 44cm | LSD-25= 76cm ○ 1 gal nutrient solution dispersed between 3 plants, 20% runoff achieved. ○ Inflow solution @ 1110ppm. Outflow solution @ 1987. ○ Gorilla Glue finally shows pistils! :) ○ Light positioned ~ 20cm from top of BB. • 2018/10/09 - Day 33 ○ Height: BB = 79.5cm (trained) | GG = 47cm | LSD-25= 86cm ○ Inflow solution Gallon #1 @ 900ppm - Gallon #2 @ 1080 ○ 1st Gallon Outflow solution: BB = 2105 | GG = 1807 | LSD = 2225 ○ 2nd Gallon Outlfow solution: BB = 1850 | GG = 1600 | LSD = 1840 ○ BB & LSD-25 suffering from early nitrogen toxicity. Corrective action in progress. • 2018/10/10 - Day 34 ○ Height: BB = 85cm | GG = 50cm | LSD-25= 92cm ○ Inflow solution @ 736ppm ○ Outflow solution: BB = 1725ppm | GG = 1680ppm LSD = 1767ppm • 2018/10/11 - Day 35 ○ Height: BB = 89cm | GG = 53cm | LSD-25= 100cm ○ 4 gallons evenly dispersed across three plants for tonight's fertigation. ○ Inflow solution @ 430ppm (PHd CalMg filtered tap water only) ○ Final outflow solution: BB = 1450ppm | GG = 1330ppm | LSD = 1391ppm ○ Hopefully lower ppm readings for outflow solution indicate nitrogen toxicity will soon be under control. Lessons learned this week: ○ Always flush coco coir reconstituted from bricks no matter what the manufacturer says about pre-washing. Proper prewash and initial buffering is paramount to a successful coco grow. ○ Always water to 20% runoff in coco and never let coco dry to the point it changes color. I was bad about this in the early weeks and paid for it with constant outflow ppms of 2100-2300 in week 5. ○ Always measure inflow and outflow EC. The HoneForest TDS meter I bought this week was $14. There is no excuse not to know your EC and having this metric earlier on in my grow could have saved me a lot of time and effort.

Grow Questions

Gorilla Glue is now 60 days old and shows only a handful of preflowers. Some sources say only time will get her to harvest and adjusting photoperiod will not help with auto genetics. Should I move her to 12/12 to induce flowering or is that pointless? Any advice is appreciated.

That happens sometimes with auto strains, they just will not autoflower. Switch it to 12/12 and it will flower right away, although you will need some serious training to keep that monster in check.

@Fast_Buds, Thanks for the response and no worries. The flip to 12/12 got her back on track. See updates for week 16 & 17. Not much longer for her to go now!

@samadhi, Hey man! Sorry for the delay in response. It looks like the wonderful growers on this sit have helped you out a lot with advise, hehe. I do agree with the majority of them, that you may need to switch to a 12/12 cycle. Though I'm curious to see where you're at now with her since it's been a few days since your last update.

Hi! A personal experience report for the next time: If/when i fail to lst, i will do a more aggressive training called supercropping (there is plenty of material in the web). To do training late in the plant formation, the best way is to do a heavy watering (just before overwatering) to make the stems more flexible and/or spray the stems with water. When the stems are more soacked with water, they became more "gummy" like and easier to bend without braking them. There is a good chance that you will brake the inner layer (the white one) and this will make a bulge that, strange but true, will increment the yield. The point is that you will trick the plant into thinking she lost the branch and she wants to replace the lost part, thus releasing more growth hormones. In flowering stage it will make more buds ;) If you brake the outer layer of the stem, it will be kind of bad, risking for disease and counter act the positive effect. You can go as far as to put the stem horizontal. In the case, twisting the leaf 90° to make them horizontal as well, will help the plant, taking away the energy to do so and speeding things up. You will still need to put a wire or something, otherwise the plant will tend to follow the light (up direction). I will suggest you to experiment this on only one plant, so you can see the difference and, if you fucked up a bit, limit the damage. Anyway, even a half broken stem can be "fixed" with some tape to keep it in place, the plant will make a scar that is more rigid and the loss minimal. Like every technique, the more you practice, the better!

@Peepingbushman, I did! If you are able, change your photoperiod to 12/12 and she should flip right into flower. I have nine more of the beans left, so I'm hoping this isn't a chronic issue with this strain. Good luck with yours and thanks for following along!

@samadhi, Totally interested in seeing the results!!! My 3 BB Kush are now flowering but I will keep them without training. One of them showed some signs of root stress or something else, some leaves were sprouting all curled, with white stains on its leaves. That plant is definetely shorter than the other two, but still flowering and thriving. I will post an update soon. It is good to see the progress of another beautiful blackberry in your diary!!! I'll stay tuned!

@Willowshes,Thanks very much for following along and for the comments! I'm very interested to see the how the Blackberry finishes now that she has around six or seven tops to fatten up! I'm especially interested to see how her yield compares to the other two if I don't end up training them also.

Loving the color of that LSD-25! Nice work. What strains are you looking at next?
samadhi
samadhi
@HighTV, Thanks for your comment, mate! I'm thinking going forward I'll only do one strain per grow. With that said, with the seeds I already have on hand, I have it narrowed down to Dinafem Moby Dick XXL or Sweet Seeds Red Poison. I really need a Sativa dominant for daytime activities so I'm thinking the Moby Dick may be the way to go.

Hello Samhadi! It could be better if you switched the tall middle plant with the shorter one next to her ( is it blue dream?) ? Looks like she is receiving less light and so growing slower..

@Eauderay, thanks for your comment! I agree and have moved her to the center of the tent with the taller ladies flanking her on either side. :) Cheers!

Hey man, I'm happy found your diary. I have the same problem with Blue Dreamatic from FastBuds. It's week 10 now and 2 out 6 have not started to show any signs of flowering despite the fact I moved them to a 12/12 light cycle week ago. Seeing your fat buds on the last update gives me some hope that I might get some too (some day). I have my 2 late bloomers marked as #VEG on my last update, you can check them out if you'd like to. Happy growing and Jah blessings! ✊

Nice looking plants. I would just bend them over at a height that works for your set up instead of just cutting 'em back. They may just surprise you at how hardy they may be. If not cut 'em off later if they start dying. Peace.

Hi, Ive been reading your Diary and you started saying " wont stress her" and you didit a long time. In week 5 you mention a nitrogen overdose. Then in week 8 you talk about agressive defoilating, and in week 9 you lollipopped her. And here we are you miss the Flowers on her. Well well, you stressed her with defoilating and lollipopping. the plant tries to bring back the defoilated and lollipopped Leaves. That takes all the energy and she cant establish beautiful Flowers . Maybe 24 hours of darkness and at least no more defoilating helps her to get nice budsites
Mrs_Larimar
Mrs_Larimar
@samadhi, i only can repeat not to stress her and maybe 24 hours total darkness puts her to taht thing. I know that the Gorilla glue (photo) takes a long time to flower ( long period) i think the only thing that will help her is TIME........ And if she wont start in the next 10 days i would say its a genetic issue. Do you have any closeups from your Gorilla to look what she want to do=?
samadhi
samadhi
@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks very much for your input and for reading my diary. The week 8 defoliation, as I mentioned, was thorough but not terribly invasive. That said, the additional defoliation/lollipopping and nutrient lockout were definitely more stressful for her. However, even with the second defoliation she never slowed in her upper vertical and bushy growth and she had already been slow to flower before I ever took a leaf. With that in mind, I was hesitant to blame defoliation as the culprit, though, I do acknowledge that I probably didn't help things with my meddling. I'm definitely new to this and still making a lot of rookie mistakes. At this point, the focus of my query lies mainly in what steps I can take to get GG to start flowering and finish her run. I have seen mixed opinions about whether switching to 12/12 has any effect on helping to induce flowering in autoflower genetics; with some saying it will help almost immediately and others saying time is the only ingredient. Do you have any insight into that topic? Thanks again for your help!

@CoastGrower, They are! This pheno ended up being a photoperiod and had a couple of false starts into flower before I finally intervened and flipped the photoperiod. The yields made up for the inconvenience though! That said, a lot of folks online seem to have that issue with this particular strain so keep that in mind if you decide to do a run.
