Sep 7: Bruce is one of my favourite plants for a nice strong veg stage that wasn’t much affected by cool temperatures in the spring. She is more sativa than my Gorilla Cookies and will likely take 2-3 weeks longer to flower. That will put her in third place just ahead of the Dutch Gelato which is the plant least likely to finish in time this fall. This far North we run out of good sunlight before it gets too cold.
I’m not worried about the lack of strong sunlight affecting bud quality because most of my crop will be used to make piatella style hash. We’ll see how it goes…
All plants were starting to show a calcium deficiency so I used the last few mLs from the small bottle of Cal-Mag.
BTW: the barley and Power Bloom are done as a top dressing on the soil and not directly into the water. Water is pH adjusted using vinegar with occasional sprinkles of Epsom salts or potassium sulphate. Trying to roughly keep water concentrations in the hundred mg/L range for most major ions. My TDS meter broke last year, but I know that overall my total ion concentrations (or TDS) are pretty low. Trying to let the soil biota do the work.
Now into second half of flowering stage so molasses have been stopped. Great for growing but the sugar is terrible for smoking. Water is low TDS with some Dr. Bronners Peppermint soap as a surfactant plus the smell repels pests apparently. I like using Yucca extract as the surfactant last year but I’m out of that stuff.
@Northern_Ent,Good morning, Woke up this morning to -2c, frost all over everything. I forgot to bring my little mystery plant in, it was pretty much frozen so I don't know of it will survive or not 😵 . Everything in the greenhouse survived with no issues, it was +5c in the greenhouse this morning . You can still go an hour south from Dryden before you hit the border at Fort Francis, International Falls. I don't go that way very often but I do go to Dryden now and then for supplies etc., my Wife and I take a ride on the Harleys and go for a burger at the chipstand once in awhile,(great burgers and reasonably priced) it's about a 2 hour round trip from where we live.
Smok'em if you got'em!!!
@northernMike, summers here really are very good. I remember driving out to Ontario and seeing a rental truck in Dryden, near the 49th parallel, saying “we know the North” but it’s as far south as you can go in western Canada. I know winters in the shield are hardcore, it was just funny to be thinking how far south we were and then to see that. Cheers.
@Northern_Ent, I lived in Edmonton in 1986-87 when that big tornado went through, I still have the newspaper from that day packed away somewhere. I worked at an Italian restaurant called the San Remo as a dishwasher and prepper six days a week after school including Sundays. I still have a couple of cousins in Edmonton, but I haven't talked to them in over thirty years.
Later!!
@yan402, I’ve made pressed hash from dried flowers in years past, but this is first year using fresh frozen. Will do cold curing this time (couple months in fridge) which is apparently known as piatella hash. See my Golosa diary for previous hash making.
Hey, what you did with your plants in that machine? Seems like a way to use leaves for edibles or just oil? Would like to know the name of the process😺
@Lizard3d, hash washing in a small washing machine. You can find actual clothes washing machines, or branded ones for hash. Can likely find used as they’re not very useful for most people. Look up Frenchy Cannoli on YouTube for hashmaking dskills. Cheers.
Wow buddy!! super nice buds
What an amazing grow so far - good job and well done 🤝
Happy Growing & cant wait for your upcoming weeks 🌱
Cheers, Bud Boutique 👩🌾
@BudBoutique, thanks, eh? It’s been a longer than normal season but the last plants are coming down in the next few days.
Snow is forecast for Monday (four days from now) and that will be another season done. Drilled a couple holes with the plan to take it down in 3 days.
