Dutch Passion Seeds purchased 2020 for an outdoor grow.
2 left over had been left in original packets and not pertucularly well looked after.
Both seeds popped using H2O2 3% and Paper Towel method.
Germinated Seedlings placed into 1ltr Airpots with "cotton wicking rope" looped through the mesh bottom plate of the airpot. This will enable water to wick up from the drip saucer the pots are sat in. (1ltr Airpots dry out fast)
Skywalker Haze(SH) first to fully germinate and start week 1 of veg.
Oranghill Special(OHS) still waiting to show up, hopefully tommorrow or it might be dead...
OHS Placed inside tent where it is slightly warmer, once/if pops will return to windowsill, as tent is running lights 11hrs on (harvest for photoperiods)
SH on windowsill getting 8hrs full sunlight then shaded rest of the day.
SH and OHS to remain outside of tent until current grow is finished, aprox 2/3weeks.
*Update OHS has popped a day later and has joined the week 1 veg party (photos added)
The strain is beautiful, the smell is very much a spicy meaty Salami type smell, its delicious.
I'd defo grow this strain again, buds are very heavy.
Orange Hill Special too is one I would defo grow again
Plants are left on window sill, natural daylight cycle while tent is still in use... give very weak solution of terra flores, seaweed and epsom salt.
Both looking health though stretching slightly... stretch will be buried when potted up..
4days later updated photos, tent setup and plants are now growing nicely...
Dutch Passion Orangehill Special(OHS) and Skywalker Haze(OH) progress into week 3 of Veg.
OH seems to be a bit sad and lingering behind, newest set of "true leave" are looking better, will watch to see how it progresses...
Both have been inocculated with a dose of Mycoryzal so hopefully OHS will start to pick up.
Begin feeding next week... thinking of using Shogun Fertalizers.. but.. have 5ltr of Canna Terra Flores to work through first...
Probably going to use Shogun addatives as picked have 5ltr of Shogun Terra Bloom for flowering stage as Canna Terra Flores is a "one part solution" not sure it is actually as good as an A & B fertalizer..
3 days later - plants have been topped at 3rd node leaving 2 branching sites.
OHS is looking dwarfed when compaired to SH... it was about 2days late to pop from the soil having been planted post paper towel germination.
Hopfully OHS will pick up... both "seem" healthy and fine atm...
Went away for 1 week...
Before leaving i fully soaked the plants and filled the drip trays... clearly wasnt enough
Oranghill Special was fine with some moisture in its drip tray.. less so for Skywalker Haze...
Plants have been topped, tops planted in same pot to see if they will survive, survival of the fittest.
Update* plants have recovered from topping and Skywalker Haze has turned up from LST'ing
Update* plants looked infected, washed soil with 6% Hydrogen Peroxide solution then flushed remaining HP with clean water.
Given Silicon and Calmag
This week the plants are recovering from 2x 6% Hydrogen Peroxide soil soaks 48hrs appart.
Post the dehydration ... the plants have recovered well however... appeared to be infected.. H2O2 soil soak seems to have resolved.
Feed and watered .. now getting ready to be potted up into final fabric pots this week
*update - 48hrs after h2o2 treatment root mass has exploded!! They had already been trimmed back and now this! Roots are white and healthy
Plants are about to be potted up into their finishing pots
Back dated update...
Been away a fair amount so not uploaded in a while.
Plants are doing their things such as growing and generally getting bigger in size
This week the plants have gone into their final pots... they have been stressed due to staying in the air pot for a little too long...
Reset into 12ltr fabric pots with my own watering solution, clay pots... the water feeds into them and leaches into the soil..
Hopefully they will now pick up having been sized up into their new home...
Plants have bounced back from being reported and topped.
Added some copper coils and things seem to have taken off?! Roots are growing mad from being started in the air pots.
Net has now been installed in preparation
Plants are looking happy, slowly filling up the netting, hopefully shortly flipping to flower maybe another week or two.
Learnt that it's annoying to lolly pop when ya already put down the netting... had to lay on the floor and reach into the tent... learning by the grow lol
Plants have been flipped and starting to stretch... Pistels have started to form.
May have vegged a little to long in the attempt to scrog the two plants out across the tent space.
Week 2 of flower, plants have stretched so much.. defo think I over vegged them..
Smell is starting to pickup and the leafs taste sweet and spicy, I eat the leaf I pick to let the light penetrate into the lower bud sites.. good eating lol
*Update - TEXT WALL ... if you can climb it?
Trying out a "natural" Light Cycle to finish from 3rd week of flower...
Method - Lights will decrease by 15min p/week until reaching a max of 9h30m "Lights On", at the start of week 8 of flower... e.g replicating winters darkest week.
This cycle, due to timer switch decrease in 15m blocks, is as close as I can go to replicating the natural 2-3min p/day (avg 15min p/week) reduced daylight through from the Vernal Equinox (day & night the same lenght) in autumn into winter's lowest 9h30m of daylight.. I.e going to replicate the "circadian rythmn"
Theory - Plants don't natural get a constant 12/12hrs yet still grow fat buds outside in nature.. as can be seen from MANY outdoor growers.
The plants only need 12/12 to "flip"... so clearly in nature... the natural 2-3min p/day reduction in daylight is actually aiding in flower development.
This is likely because the plant realises it needs to focus purely on flowering before the daylight reaches to low to continue growth...
Thus the theory is sustained 12/12hrs is in fact hindering the plant's need to focus purely on flowering due to the sustained max daylight hrs to trigger "flip", instead is slowing bud development as it made "comfy" to keep growing awaiting for the urgency of decreasing daylight that never eventuates
So..In short.. 12/12 causes a requirement to start flower, while the continued reduction in daylight, causes urgency to focus soley on flowering.
If correct.. saving made in electricity bills...
Being week 3 of Flower, plants have picked up bud development nicely and are starting to pack on the calyx and trichomes are starting to developed (more so on the skywalker haze)
Lights degression to 9hr 45mins, hopefully this will induce bud development and the plants "circadian rythmn" will pick up the 15mins reduced light on time.
Light intensity reduced to 75%
Beging Week 4 of Flower...
Plants are picking up flower production, with the Sky Walker Haze (SWH) producing massive amounts of trichromes creating some entirely crystal leaves. SWH displaying its Indica Mazar characteristics
Orange Hill special is picking up bud production, a lot less trichromes but larger buds hopefully will ensue as the colas start ot fill out. Definitely showing its Sativa characteristics (not sure OHS liniage)
Struggling with VPD at the moment seems the humidity is dropping during lights on and massively increasing during the night... thankfully managed to keep the RH lower than it was at night but... day time still is being an issue and dropping down to low 60's. Decreasing light intensitity drops temp but not enough to hit the "peak" VPD
Start of Week 5 in Flower
Colours are starting to come through as the buds fatten and begin ripening.
Skywalker Haze (SWH) Is starting to develop its purple colours as it picks up bud fattening
Orange Hill Special (OHS) is starting to turn yellow and picking up its orange colouring as it too picks up bud fattening
*Light schedule report -
It appears that yes, not running a 12/12 light schedule is in fact adding to the bud development as it would natural do with the reduced light of the sun from autumn into winter, colours are developing as the plant recognises that the light is fading into winter.
Light Schedule for this week = 9.5hrs on (10am-19.30)
*Side experiment...
The three airpots siting at the base of the plants are going to be "monster cropped" tek
Monster crop is where you harvest the buds then flip the lights back into Veg.
The hope is that I can do a second run off of clones taken from the two plants... we will see how this goes.. also not sure what cutting is from which so that will be fun to find out as (if) they re-veg ...
*Day 2 photo set missing as was away Mon Eve to Wed arvo
Begin Week 6 of Flower
Plants are really picking up colour and potency, the smell is getting super strong and difficult to manage 😨😱
Scent combo of the two smells together (cos they are growing together) is like Spicy Salami crossed with a Caramel Mocha or atleast that's what it reminds me of when i pop the tent.
*Colours seems to be derived by light duration and no so much because of low temperature, as I suspected, which hasnt dropped below 18C, a pleasent summer evening temp.
Surmising this because they are clearly producing the Autumnal colours on the leaf as it does when the light fades in autumn.
My replication of "autumn" is slowly reducing the light on 12/12 by 15min/pw which is now on 9Hr45Min ~ 75%Power
Purple is really picking up strong with about 50% of leaf having developed purple colours, they should be gorgeously coloured by week 8.
In the final stretch to harvest now.. honestly cannot wait to get this cut, dry and cured to enjoy this smoke.
Begin Week 7 Flower
Plants are defo coming to a close, With Harvest likley to be the begining of Week 8.
Colours have picked up vividly with the Orange Hill Special becoming like a blood orange.
Deep dark purples, orange and yellow colouring. The smell is hard to describe, it smells like a citrus fruit. Thats not because of a powerful citric acid smell, its sweet, yet its not a "thats defo an orange" smell either... it smells Soooo good non the less.
In Short ... it smells like some kind of sweet/tangy citrus Fruit.
The Skywalker Haze is red, with the colour being reminiscent of blood. Beautiful deep shades of purple in the mix, its smell is fantastic, rich and deep notes of italian type herbs coveing a Spiced Salami Sausage (that's what it reminds me of ... literally it smells meaty)
The smell is so strong now, having to run filter constantly to stop the leaking scent 😬😰
Fun facts - Orange Hill special loves to drop leaf, its like it wants to be manicured or leaficured...
Skywalker Haze seems to love keeping a tight grip on its dead leaf... maybe its sentimental over having grown them 🤔
Lots of leeches cut over the last two weeks, ones that look viable have been kept to root, then we will see about a "monster crop" tek run... I am sure it will go swimmingly 😀😬
