Well the new beans arrived with a brilliantly made up package and merchandise kit from Royal Queen Seeds. 3x Hulkberry and a freebie cup winning Critical. went into water soak 2 days ago and now showing taproots so into starter cubes and mini bio-domes.
was going to finish up my other strains before i set my stall out with these ladies but due to the nightmare getting the rdwc dialled and set up , i lost /damaged most of the ladies from Barneys Farm. still some survivors( just ) So i think they will be going into coco to make room for the Hulkberry and friends. even though not got seedlings yet , decided to crack on with this diary.
Welcome if you want to pull up a chair. will try to make this interesting , humerous and informative.
3 days in amd all showing life signs. excited to get these on the go. wish i had better quality grow lights though. 2 x 600 hps been my go-to forever. would love to try a an led decent set up to match that but way too pricey for the risk of being crap. happy to test any suppliers lights with a diary/journal to evidence.
all still on water only. Had a difficult germination with these seeds. All showed tap root so went into plugs and propogator but one bean did nothing else and snuffed it. 1 Bean has mutated coty leaves that were fused to the tiny stem. A Critical survived along with 1 Hulkberry. Gutted was an understatement. Eventually contacted Royal Queen Seeds to see if anything could be done. I expected nothing but still wanted to express my dissapointment. I WAS WRONG... They have been amazing and once i explained why i coukdnt send any pic evidence, they have kindly replaced my whole order( complete with merchandise and freebie seed). An amazing result and conclusion for me. Cannot thank them enough under the cirumstances. So for this one there will be 1 Hulkberry to diary and considering another for the Critical but that means trying to run 4 diaries alongside each other!!!. Could be a thumb killing 12 weeks. Lol
The ladies are now in their new homes and settling in nicely it seems
have lowered the ppm to 270 ( inc taps 137ppm to start with) from the dwc running other strains too. ph is 5.8 so all good there. No signs of burn or damage so far and have use patron power roots 20ml and 10 ml zym, 2ml superthrive , 30 ml liquid ice and 20 ml of golden tree. no Canna Aqua yet till I am happy all is too. The roots on her were at the bottom of the pot so should touch water soon without the need to air bubble splash them. am not sure if I have 2 Hulkberry yet as I mixed up with 1 critical during germination. including her pics in case she is another Hulkberry after all.
let's get busy
been a nerve racking week waiting for the ladies to get through it. have had the ppm low at 260 ( tap water is 135) total so hoped not to cook them. The shared space has older girls desperate for a feed now too. The growth has been very slow on hulkberry with the yellowing showing a struggle going off. changing the routing of the air pipe ( on advice) to through my net pits , has reduced the noise brilliantly and will avoid ripping roots when I check them. so want this strain to make it.
Been so busy recently had to neglect the diaries slightly. Back now and on it .!!!
Waiting for the "dwcr explosive growth" now seems like the white lie about an extra inch at forty now ! . My skills in this medium are zero it seems. Lol
After taking a lot of info and advice from many forums and growers i am changing things up a little. Had recently started adding Rhizotonic , pure zym and power roots to the mix in the hope of avoiding any root rot issues. I am not sure it worked and have had slime and darkness among the roots of the other ladies. Initially convinced myself it was staining but seeing how slow things have slid back and the clawing on another few ladies , i am changing to hydroguard. I want white healthy vigorous roots too now. Lol. Lets see what the girls rwspond lime after the change. The ppm has been slowly rising so i am sure they are not taking enough nutes at all now. Fingers crossed.
All going well with the little lady. Been topped and recovering nicely now. Hoping the new nute program helps to get to flowering next week or very soon after. The rest in the grow need to flower now as been held back waiting for the Hulkberry to catch up a bit. Feeling positive for this girl now .
been a very steady week with the ladies this week. root getting big in the buckets and the growth has been good to. have now supercropped her a little and will hopefully be evident in next update. they love the feed and i am hoping to switch in two days now.
been a busy week with the flip over to flower. Deciding to leave the scrog due to differing strains , ages and heights has meant having to train individually while they stretch. am supercropping to try to get a uniform height ( ish) for canopy. The Hulkberry is feeling very supple still ( thanks to the silicon max i think ?) and her bends have been easily applied. i know she could bounce back up so gave them a firm pinch to damage the structure enough to form a knuckle to support horizontal bend. In theory , she should benefit from this as each tip (only topped once so are lower branches encouraged even) can form buds and the two below each tip , should do the same during the stretch. So far the stretch has not bèen much and i suspect it is due to flowering her a bit early ( other plants needed flip!) . The next crop will be a Hulkberry one so will get to see how well it does to its full potential. I am impressed with her to date and suspect she will be a good yielder. here's hoping .
update day 23 in flower. The hulkberry is stretching brilliantly to overtake her housemates now. love how virulent she is too. very happy and stamping her mark on the space she is in too. i am sure she watches me watching her too. lol. expecting her to drag me in once she is nearer her harvest amd use me for final boost.lol
i was tempted to slap her about a bit to anger her and see her turn into the hulk but thought better of it. soft and gentle will keep her happy. she is feeding well and no signs of any deficient nutes so far. She has a prime spot in the room so am confident that all her Colas will be chunky . love the genetics. well done RQS. roll on the frosty weeks.
This lady is amazing. She has a nice thick stem forming along with her bud sites so looks ready to bare some seriously thick buds hopefully. she has loved the higher strength nutes and her colour is perfect. Her buds look fresh and crisp. took 8 clones off her lower branches but have left a lot of lowers as they will form good sized buds.
All in all i love this strain and cant wait to see her end result.
Happy farmer here.
update: day 35 since flip. for only 3 weeks in flower , her height is over 1m and building. her buds are kooking very chunky and i can see how she gets he name already. the mains are covered in bud sites along them and they are going to form up to huge colas by the look of them. while others in the grow are showing signs of burn from the feed strength, this girl has not flinched at all. she is vigorous and by far the tallest and fattest bud sets out of the whole crop. ppm has been 750 ish and ph 6.0 and she has loved it. looking forward to her final weeks. The aromas starting to fill the room now too amd even escaping my filters a bit too. have to get on top of that one fast.
Love this strain.
Update: Day 43 since flipped to 12/12
With some thinking , her flowers didnt show for the first week so am now going to count weeks excluding the Transitional week. This will also make sense of why i often tend to go over the weeks in flower of previous grows by approx 1 week. so...
Day 36 in flower (amended) This lady is becoming "Queen Bitch " , she has dominated the height , bud size and speed too. She is the youngest in the room so i cannot wait to have a whole crop of these next run. She only had 3 weeks veg , 1 topping and a few bends too.. Will be trying a scrog with 8 of them in 2mx2m×1.8m.
She has no issues feeding and shows no signs of any deficiencies
her aroma is very sweet when touched , very sticky too.
bud sizes are impressive for the time too. can only imagine her finished ones. Wish i had more veg time for her , although she would have needed her own room and light. lol
ppm750
ph 5.8
temp 24.8°c
loving this girls progress.
updated wrong week oops.
She is at day 39 in flower for the new pics. her buds are beautiful and so covered in sugar now. cannot wait for her to finish , roll on day 70 .
Update day 44 actual flowering: The hulkberry is smashing it at the moment. am expecting her to start her major swelling over the next two weeks too , so a little anxious now. lol. looking at how well she has performed so far , i expect big things from her. Nutes ppm at around 750 , did res change a few days back so am topping up till harvest now. she is coping with being close to the light well too. No signs of heat stress either. overall i am glad to find this strain. She will now be my main harvests for a bit now. Her clones are now starting to convert back to veg after rooting well .
With 4 weeks left till harvest , this girl is going to yield loads. fingers crossed.
Update Day 51 of 70 days flowering:
The lady is totally dominating the skyline and looks sassy in her bushy pistils. She is still joining the budsets up so feels a way off her finish yet. She is sticky and some signs of sugar forming but not as frosty as others around her. I expect she will swell soon and i am pleased with her smell too.
No signs of any issues or deficiencies still and her stems and leaves look green and pleasant. next run will test her out fully with training and a mainline. Impressed still so far.
Update day 57 flowering.
She continues to put new pistils and bud growth on. ,her leaves look very green though , not sure if too much N going on. all growing ok but shiny dark green and thick looking makes me suspect.
She is right in the nest spot for light bit also close to it. no signs of any burn at all but keeping eyes open. She continues to throw out sticky sugar around her buds amd smells bang on. still got 2 weeks to go till full 10 wks so hopefully this week will see an explosion in girth to live up to the hype.
Update Day 63 flower. Not too much jas changed in the last week. She is pushing more hairs out slowly and her spiral buds are fatter but no signs of a big burst yet so still hopeful. Looking into the lower canopy , i can see a good few decent sized bud sites but they are quite distant from each other. nice and dense but far apart. still a week to go with her so lets see what she does. I am now sceptical as she got of to such an amazing start that seems to have been let down by actual flower production. the clones are now converted to veg and looking healthier so will see what her eal capabilities are next run !!.
Wish i could have had more training and manifolding her too.
UPDATE DAY 66:. The lady is ready for for her hang dry session before harvesting those potent buds so she is coming out today. Her hairs are mostly red now and her trichs are showing a few ambers gathering too among the cloudy gatherings. I am looking forward with curiosity , for her final yield as the buds are very solid feeling and shouldn't lose too much in water content. It has been easy to grow but i wish i could have given more time for training and veg. I have clones nearly ready to go now so am looking forward to really testing this strain out for yield next run.
She definitely doesn't need as much food as the other strains so suffered too much N in a multi-strain crop. will do a harvest once she is fully slow dried and trimmed after. love the spiral buds ( not foxtailed from heat , strain character). She looks great out of the room and spread out. I didnt see some of the lower formed buds either. Fingers crossed on a good yield.
Hulkberry grew fast and tall genetically and looked like being the biggest producer in the grow but... I think that maybe her feeding needs to be lighter than for other strains. She had shiny thick leaves throughout the grow which i think was too much N and also using silica was not needed for her. As she was part of a multi strain rdwc , she got the same feed as the others which has had a serious affect on her yield 68 g from such a huge structured plant is poor i.m.o . The buds didnt form up with each other due to huge gaps in their sites. The single buds looked interesting with the spirals forming too. During the third week of flower , i also realised i have a bulb dying which has seriously affected the whole crops yield. I have cloned her so have a full run of 7 to start next .I am hoping i can get a good result by feeding for its needs alone this time. Overall the smoke is very strong and crept up on me as i smoke it like normal weed as i trimmed another lady. I realised too late that i had overcooked myself with the joint and woke up with trim as a sideburn from resting on it to sleep.lol
She was easy to grow and took off like a rocket skyward. lots of training would do this strain justice.
@Wachsemilian, You are more than welcome wach. Pull up a seat , take a hit and relax to the upcoming "Bud Porn" !!!!. The next few weeks are the best to enjoy. She smells so fruity and is tacky as hell. update due and on the way
i am back again and they look pretty good dude.😎..these shiny leafs come from too much silicon booster .. have an eye on it or you will get black ash.....but still very good, no burned leafs and stuff...till next week bro have a good one
@Wachsemilian, thank you so much fella. will quit it now. should have quit it two weeks back really but caught with still having 5 long flowerers going too in same rdwc( a big fook up. lol) think it has i inhibited them a bit too tbh. will be using less for mext run as will all be hulkberry amd i am not sure these need the extra judging by the stems and branch thickness. i dont flush ever but do a very slow dry so hopefully will exhaust any leftovers during this process. appreciate your insight mate thank you. She has fat foxtail rype buds that do look ready to unwind and burst now but coukd be the structure. wish i could have had more time to lst and manifold her but circumstances pushed time sadly. next run will rinse every last bit of potential from her with the clones. will beat this dissapointment. lol . update tomorrow and have jigged room about a bit now got some out to dry.
thanks for looking in.
thanks mate. they are growing thick so fast now and her buds are fat already. cant handle them without gooey mess now. New pics with no HPS on posted to show crystals now too
Where do you live bro ? I have a couple of these beans myself , I use IWS buckets ,first week plain water then use 1/4 strength to start 👍 humidity @60% is best
welcome along mate. am looking forward to these ladies maturing too. have 3 more hulkberry beans to pop for next grow too. looks like a great strain to grow alongside the critical peyote RQS Critical and Liberty haze for an headbangers ball. lol
hjave them quite a distance away mate. was worried i was going to overdo them with 2x 600hps so young. they do stay fairly cool lower down too. have plenty of fan air to help too. what do you recommend BigDaddyK. usually run a lot closer but needed the light spread as have 10 in a 2mx2m apexed tent so height a pain.
in the UK. I did overstrength them I think. slowly recovering now but has been a slow process on the dialling in and getting it right. hoping these hulls make up for it but so far two look like could not make it. one hasn't popped properly and one is a mutant. thinking of contacting RQS to see if can rectify. one survivor might be a stretch without taking clones. prefer seeds. thanks for the advice and they will get just water as I pot them up.
thank you tylergrows907. welcome along mate. am looking forward to seeing these perform and the smoke report too. They will rescue the confidence in dwcr i hope too. lol. seems an imoissible task and i have years of nft , coco under my extended belt. fingers crossed.
thanks Dahoola. you are welcome. any helpful advice and along the way more than wrlcome too. been growing nft for years then 10 year break , done a few coco grows now and trying to get this dwc lark going. just about murdered last lot of seedling after fighting to get a good amount germed. so made boo boos already. think i overfed them and the ph was off for a while. heat was at 32° a fair bit too , bad rh of 30 and seedlings held back ages setting up rdwc. so enough to fook things up i think ? . lol hope can make the ride fun.
