Started 3 bag seeds in jiffy pellets, one sprouted. Just bad bag seeds. Started them off outside since it was humid, brought in once sprouting started.

The seed shell got caught on top of the seedling, preventing the leaves from opening. I didn't want to damage it so I left it thinking it would pop off by it's self, however that didn't happen and by the time I took the shell off some of the leaves were mangled :/ Moved the lights closer.

Very slow growth. Then yellowing of bottom leaves so nitrogen diff. Corrected that. Def did not give enough nutrients at the start considering is coco. Was growing very short and squat so moved the lights away.

Repotted from solo cup. Prob should have done that earlier. Preflowers are definitely looking pointy. After she had settled down into her new home, I topped at 5th node. 3 days later she had started filling out the 2 new main branches. Once there was growth from the 1st new node, I FIMed the tops, and it took 4 days to recover.

Started LST. Plant is growing two new branches from second Topping/FIM site. Total of 8 main branches. Once plant recoved moved to 3 gal smart pot. Was starting to look root bound so I picked off any big knots of roots. watered with nutrients and rearranged lights. Will need to take the pully off for more space.

Transplanted into the 5 gal smart bucket. Branches seem to be growing again. All main branches are tied down now, will take clones from the lower banches this week. But the red stems are worrying, I think she's stressed from repotting but I will wait and see. But the yellow new growth I will have to keep an eye on and do some reading. I was considering repotting to a 5 gal smart pot because I have the space but should leave it a while so she can recover. Thinking about what to do for flowering lights. don't know if low end LEDS might be a better option the cfls I have now.

No problems this week, lots of growth which I have been LSTing. Took some clones, hopefully, I will turn one into a bonsai mother. So I will be planning to flip in November. I will add more cfl lights for flowering and set up the veg chamber so the clones can keep growing.

So I set up the veg room at last since I want to flip the main plant. That meant light proofing it, which I did with air con putty, myler blanket layers and A LOT of duct tape. It's not pretty but I hope it will get the job done! Perpetual grow is the grow, harvesting every 2 months. The clone I made from topping got transplanted to a solo cup, and I can see a root through the clear inside cut so I guess she is doing her thang., Also added lights to the flower booth so it should have 153w. Put 4 led bulbs with the tops popped off to see how they go, apparently, they are more economical than cfls? And I am considering what to do for side lighting, leds might be a choice because they have a lower profile, Or LED strips? Or fluorescent tubes? I guess it's not neccisary for this grow but in the future. I've tied down the main branches so I think they will all have their own space to get light. I think I've done enough training to flip. Can't wait for her to start flowering :)

Is 153w cfl/led lighting enough light to flower one plant? What is the minimum I need?

Experimentgreenanswered grow question 6 years ago
So i used cfls in the beginning to get my plants big enough for the outdoor season and as seedlings i started with 1 60 watt daylight bulb, and slowly i increased it based on the size of the plant until i had 3 100 watt bulbs (daylight). I found my plants were stretching a lot. However with a good box setup, reflective mylar etc, i know you can get reasonable results with like 4+ 100 watt bulbs otherwise have many lower watt bulbs scattered at various heights. However you can make as few shadow pockets do. Possibly begin the grow with lights above and as the plant grows have some low down and the light above. Growing gets expensive, so just go off what your plant tells you, if stretching, add more bulbs. I dont see why the 153 shouldnt be ok for now. Ive seen good results with both the store bought led/cfl bulbs so i can only say experiment.

Just finished the transition to 12/12, starting to see some stretch. Training wise I bent down any small aux branches that were getting breaking through the canopy so they wouldn't get burnt, figured it would be ok to practice super cropping on them. LSTing the main branches flat and out. Lighting wise I want to thank everyone for all the input. I will stick with cfls for now and see what I can get, I will prob put my high school electronics to use and build my own lighting in the future, but I need to do a lot of reading before I even attempt that. But I did add some photography bulbs as a lighting boost, 2 x 500w (105w actual draw). Not the right spectrum but these were the cheapest options for now. Plus 12 x 11w warm light cfls helping with penetration. Trying to figure out some side lighting with what I have. And yes I have a fire alarm and extinguisher suitable for electrical fires!

Gave a bit of room for stretch, which she has done a little. Been reading up on light spectrums, and blue/green spectrum lights will encourage not to stretch but spectrum won't make or break the grow anyway so I'm quietly confident for my grow. That is as long as I water it...well she perked up soon enough. White pistils growing, I was so lucky to get a female considering she was the only bag seeds that popped out of 3! Will defoliate the inside/lower leaves this week.

I decided to give a good defoliation, to help with light penetration to the many lower bud sites. Also I thought it wouldn't hurt the humidity/air flow through the middle. Now that she has had a hair cut, you can see how random my LST was, Biggest challenge is keeping the buds from getting too close, I'm just kind of adjusting them down a bit and tieing them down.

Buds are throwing out white hairs, and I'm starting to see a hint of crystals on the leaves towards the buds. My biggest concern is the heat from the cfls, getting readings of 30 C at the top leaves, as well as burning the leaves that touched a bulb when I didn't put her back in the sweet spot. I wish I had LSTed even more aggressively during stretch. It's making me think about doing a Scrog set up next time to see if that will help me train lower. Last month now, the waiting really has been the worst part of it all.

So I had to promptly have a big LST session to stop the tops being burnt. Pipe cleaners worked really well, was able to spread out the canopy more. Flower is progressing nicely, starting to see trich development on the sugar leaves. Jewelers loop arrived and seems good enough to check on the trich development. Changed the diy reflector to another design, it's layers of emergency blanket hot glued together and then cut out in a circle the diameter of my cfls. The previous design was just getting in the way. I have added a 50w COB 3000k flood light to the back of the cabinet as suplemental lighting, see how those lower buds like that boost! Starting to shape the bonsai mother plant. FIMMED the clones, I will decide which clone is going to the next one to flower this week and repot. Perpetual grow begins!

Bit concerned about the yellowing of the lower leaves...seems that yellowing is normal during late bloom, but I have as much as 2 weeks - 1 month so the yellowing seems a bit early? The nute schedule already has no flora grow added. But we have been hit with a sudden cold spat with temps as low as 13 C. I hope things don't get much colder. Past few days smell is starting to develop, I'd say a piney scent. Filter is coping so far.

I upped the Ph a bit and the clones responded with some vig growth. The successful clone has been repotted and LST started. Will try upping the Ph to 6 because runnoff is coming out low. Flowering plant doing her thing, buds are filling out and smell is coming in. Very piney. But I toasted a top bud nooo. Need some improvements to the lighting fixture. And have plans to put a scrog in for the next plant so hopefully, I can keep things much more even. Trichs are starting to look cloudy. I'm waiting until I start to see Ambers until I cut. 1 to 2 more weeks I'm guessing. Will start to flush this week.

But gives it time for the buds to fatten up. I got something to smoke for xmas and what was supposed to be fire was full of seeds. :/ Can't wait to have my own source!

Finally, Trichs are turning cloudy. Pistols are looking brown. The next week? Will be keeping a close eye then chop chop. Guess this plant has a 9-10 week flowering phase. Once this plant is down I will do my upgrades to the space (I got a 120w QB from Alibaba, plan to supplement with the cfls) then in goes another plant to scrog and flower. I've been busy at the end of the year so due to my own laziness she has been a bit neglected, stretching out waterings a bit too far. 5.7 runoff. Next grow is going to be upgraded to a 5 gal fabric pot. Happy New Year Growing everyone!

Happy Harvest Day!
Rated
5/10
Rated
A very upper high with nearly 0 sleepiness/couch lock. I attribute it to the harvest time being during cloudy phase of trichs, cos the weed seems very indica heavy with short node space and bushy leaves. But I'm not complaining, good daytime or socializing smoke, everyone gets giggly. Mate rated it "8.9" out of 10 (10 being the best weed in his life). I think he's just been on a smoke break so for me it's like a decent mid.

Yeah that's for sure ladyganja! I use to dream of doing this so bad! I studied for a year or so before ever growing and I was fortunate enough to get decent gear on craigslist (i'm a cheapo) so I skipped this step. Part of me wished I had grew like this during that study phase. You really are making it work! I totally want a CFL setup like yours for sprouting seedlings (to save power)

Like @CommanderCannabis said, don't worry too much about the yellowing at this point, however I would get your ph up to a 6 next time. Do you test the ph runoff? Tds/ec/ppm runoff? You are probably going to have to start your flush in a week or so, have you checked the tricomes? Pistils look about 50/50 which I think is about 2 weeks off, maybe 3.
LadyGreen
LadyGreencommented6 years ago
@BeefWellingtons, ok thanks, the nute guide I am following said to keep ph between 5.5-6 so I will definitely be double checking the ph from now and do a bit more reading. Thank you for your help!
BeefWellingtons
BeefWellingtonscommented6 years ago
@LadyGreen, so the optimum ph for soiless is 5.8-6.2 or so, it's a range. Hydro is 5.5-6, w/sweet spot being 5.8, and soil grow is like 6.2-6.8, with sweet spot being 6.5... this is for maximum nutrient uptake. Feel free to investigate further as there is different schools of thought. But the biggest reason we see nutrient deficiency is from wrong ph which causes lock out, from what I'm told.
LadyGreen
LadyGreencommented6 years ago
@BeefWellingtons, no, I don't test the runoff but I probably should huh. Is there a reason for a ph of 6? (just want to learn!) I have checked trichomes mostly clear. 2 more weeks at least.

I burned a lot of my tops before I supercropped the top colas. I had to do it as there was no more space and the buds were burning.
LadyGreen
LadyGreencommented6 years ago
Ok thanks for the heads up! I had a big emergency (more burnt leaves) LST session yesterday with pipe cleaners so I'm hoping that does the trick
BeefWellingtons
BeefWellingtonscommented6 years ago
@LadyGreen, while it's not suggested, I had to do it else burn all my colas. You have to be very careful and they should be supported after so they can heal properly. There is also a technique to do it so it's not pinched so much at the site. I basically did it about a foot down the cola and bent at about a 65 degree angle. I was freaked out but it was that or watch my fat colas burn up on the light. It did add an extra 2 weeks or so to my grow, but in the end completely worth it. It was a last resort type of thing that worked out for me.

yellowing in the lower leafs are perfectly fine your plant is just focusing on producing nice fat buds :) i know in the end of the flower the plant uses nutes from the leaves from the whole plant but right now its just taking some nutes from the lower older fan leafs so no worries. i also think this is why some people say dont defoliate so much cause your plant uses nutes from the leaves thru out the whole flowering stage. plant is smart they will do what is right for them also 13 C should be totally fine as long as its not a frost temperature they will keep going just fine unless they go from 57 C to 13 C then thats a different story sudden change of temp can shock the plant. but overall your plant is doing fantastic :) the buds already look super yummy
LadyGreen
LadyGreencommented6 years ago
@MrKeep, ok great as long as the yellowing is fine! This is probably as cold as it's going to get so I guess I will be ok. Yeah those buds are filling out nicely can't wait to smoke lol.

Nice cabinet, I have one too, check it out if you want growdiaries.com/diaries/18866-2-mango-bubble-cloud-auto You should try autoflowers. They are so much faster but not as much room for mess ups. You are doing great with the CFLs keep it up.

@JerMeds, cabinets are lyfe! Thanks will check it out! I would love to try autoflowers one day, it's getting the seeds (not many seed banks ship to my country) but fast does sound appealing! So far so good with the cfls, I think they might just get me through flowering. Yields well we'll have to see, will be an interesting baseline to compare to any upgrades in the future.

impressiveee yeah keep on it. looks great. i been doing some research these days cause i dont want to spend $$$ for growing lights when you can do some research and spend less. Im sure you know what spectrum you need like 5000k-6500k for veg and 2700k-3500k for flowering. I been just looking up in amazon like 2700k led 3500k leds and i see that some of the floodlights looks really good for growing plants. there is also some videos on people growing with flood lights ( i also will be making my own lights soon so i was looking things up a LOT) or search like 3000k cob led. Cob is the best for growing supposedly. I dont know if this help but hope it does! :P and again Happy Growing~~~

You would need more height if you get the leds. I think you should continue with what you have. I run a grow under a powerful cfl and it's in a small growbox so I don't have a lot of room, but that's what is good about cfl is you can run them a lot closer to the plant than leds.

hey lady ganga problem with CFL is the spectrum and its intensity, not enough of the required spectrum, but it'll work ! with CFL the more the better. If you can get bar lights in on the sides of the grow room at just below canopy level to reach any shaded leaves that's a good idea tooo ! another thing you can do with cfl is try to buy a 45° CFL COB spotlight and try to concentrate the light in a good way. Best is to move towards specialised LED COBs or boards or simply use a good HPS through a cooltube. www.youtube.com/watch hope this helps !
