Germination

A bit of a bummer with the germination of these. It may have very well been myself to blame but is hard to tell and the 2 seeds that didn't germinate are still soaking. This is a notoriously hard/long strain to grow so They may just need a little more time but its been two weeks for the first seed and a week for the second so not looking good at all.!They appear to have not cracked at all. My temps got a little low and my humidity started to lower than it should have been. I got sick the day after they were sown and was rough the whole week and my ac infinity t3 decided to stop working, and my other humidifier flooded, so it was hard to keep up. Im not sure if direct sowing inthe 30 gallons had an effect or when soaking them overnight i didn't not have them warm enough, they were around 65-70 degrees. Think I will pull the heat matt out next time. They were sown into the center with only pro mix with no nutrients. But at least I got one to germinate and i can get clones down the road. I really hope this one is nice. I think I'm going to start another photo inin place. I have Some Blueberry I was thinking I want to keep a strain with a longer flowering time even though i have a few indicas id like to try i don't think it would be the best idea to try to grow a faster flowering indica with the Nevilles. But maybe it could. I have Barneys ayahuasca purple and fast flowering Gorilla and Blueberry by 00 I have green poison by sweet seeds. Seedsman og kush, white widow, gelato og, and witches wedding. Might get some more seeds. Or talk to seedsman it grenhouse and try to get some oreNevilles. This was the first time I didn't get seeds to germinate.

The one that did germinate looked a little shocked from the lack of humidity but later in the week it adjusted fine and was growing nice. Nit to leggy as a little closer to the light. Excited to see how direct sown in 30-gallon turns out. I dumped both seeds the another day in the other 30 gallon pot and will see if either if them sprout but I'm thinking its time to start one more seed to fill their place.

The new seedlings are starting to take off. All the plants got two healthy waterings. The second one at the end of the week with a quick compost tea brew 8 hours of all the worm juice at the bottom of my worm bin along with a handful of the castings ,kelp meal, liquid kelp, azomite, little bit of happy frog and dr earth dry amendment, some molasses and a little but of pure protein but it wasn't dissolving so well because it had formed from powder into a hash-bar like chunks. I also topped all the containers iff with a handful of castings with worms mixed in to introduce some because I think I forgot to when I filled the containers. The Nevilles is looking a lot better towards the end of the week and is showing no signs of wanting to slow down. Those other two seeds didn't germinate, So I email seedsman to see if the will send me some new one's, fingers crossed but it may have very well been my fault,I'm not to sure, they are the first ones i haven been able to germinate. I decided to try and find another longer flowering strain to grow with this but slightly shorter to make up for the time lost and was initially going to veg and flower the Neville's in the gorilla 4x8, but I have my other 4x8 set up (just waiting on humidifier) and for some reason 2-in-1 daisy chain for my ac infinity s6 fans is not working.it would be a waste to veg the nevillles under the 600 watt lights when the 240watt ac infinity light and bestva 400 watt light would be plenty to veg them out in.So Im going to use the other 30 gallon pot i tried to sow the Nevilles in to transplant the Black Jack into because i ran out of 30 gallon pots(and a little low on soil) and decided to dump the Durban out into containers to sit and let the fungus gnats die, the will re-ammemnd and re-use and used my new soil i mixed up that seems to be pest free at the moment to fill my last available 30 gallon pot for the liberty haze. And Will just start my new seedling thats I'm going to scrog with the Neville's in a 1-5 gallon pot I have for now until I can get my other 4x8 set up as a veg tent. still have been struggling with my humidifier being able to keep up so I ordered a Govee 7L wifi unit until my Ac Infinity replacement comes and to have a backup and to use in other tents. After watering the first time the plants started to pray a little. Then for whatever reason my humidifier went from being set at max in the morning to low later that evening and the plants sere not happy with that. Vpd was around 1.8 82F 55%H then i watered them again with the compost tea and reset the humidifier the full blast and got i back to 79F 67%H And the vpd around 0.9 and thats where they seem to be happy.

The two other seeds never germinated, but seedsman hooked me up with a store credit or two packs of their seeds so I just choose theirs. Think Im going to try to grow one of the Peyote Gorilla I got along with this Nevilles. It is trying really hard and growing fast despite the low humidity and slightly overwatered soil. I think its pot soaked up water from the dehumidifier leaking which means it was also not ph'ed down and my tap water is close to 8 before I ph it down. I finally have my other 4x8 setup as my veg tent now and moved over the Neville's along with my moms and autos. They are growing under my other 400w light at the moment. They are starting to grow fast now towards the end of the week. Leaves are very skinny.

Shes showing overwatering signs but is still pushing though and growing fast the lower shoots are starting to catch up with the top. I think I will get a few clones this week maybe and top her for the first time. Decided that Im going to try some more autos next to her instead of starting a new photo strain to fill the ungerminated seeds space. One of the watering this week was with some liquid kelp, azomite and pure protien.

Last week of veg for the Nevilles Haze. She was finally starting to look healthy. Moved it to the flower tent today. It got topped the other day and got much needed cuttings as the other seeds never germinated.got the lower stuff out of the way. I topped all the tops, and I was even able to use the large fan leaves as a built in lst training mechanism to hold the last tops down. She got some boogie brew as well. Once the back Jack is done flowering I'm only going to be around halfway flowering this plant, its stretching should be done and I should be able to move the Liberty Haze back in to flower and tbey should finish around the same time.

First week of"flower" for the Nevilles. I just realized after doing a little research that I might have to grow her under 11/13 or more to get it to flower due to it being such a pure sativa. Another option is to run it from clones so it has some time to age. But I believe there is a tiny amount if NL breed into it to help tame the genetics. Fingers crossed she starts flowering or else I will not be able to tame the growth. Other than that I have her trained low. The new shoots are forming nice, and keeping a low profile. She got a feeding of compost tea at the end of the week but opted to not top dress as she has some steem left in the 30 gallon pot for sure, and still a but overwatered. Going to let her dry down a good 4 days at lest until the next watering i think. Got some cool giant dinosaur looking leaves, the ones i used to LST the two main branches. Also got the first scrog net in place, im assuming i will need two wt least with how lanky she is.

She's a finicky girl. Part of it I think is my fault for direct sowing into the 30-gallon. But she's starting to show signs she's flowering which im relieved to see because I was hearing stories of people filling their Nevilles Haze to flower under 12/12 only for it to veg another 6 weeks before they realized whats happening. That being said i think shes gonna be some awesome smoke when finished and worth the effort. This week just focused on keeping her as low as possible. I trimmed some of the lowers that were obstructing me from watering with ease. She seems to get real thirsty, then really over-watered within a few days of each other. I think I'm going to let her dry out from this last watering which was pretty heavy and dial down the amount I'm giving each time. Overall shes still very healthy just not very happy, but filling the 4x4 section well.

The Neville's health has not improved and does not look happy this week at all. Although is deffs flowering which is good shes showing mixed signals as far as health. I thought I've over-watered since the beginning by the kind of drippiness, so I really let the pot dry out before watering this week and it is showing the leaves down low greening back up after watering but the top is still looking a little too light green/yellowish and clawing. The leaf tips are not burned looking so i don't think its over fed. I do think my water may have been a little cold like in the hi 50's and the tent humidity was a bit low for a few weeks, but i managed to get it at a reasonable level. I also don't think its underfed because I used a fairly hot mix with ocean forrest as my base and have top dressed and fed compost teas.Just going to aim for slower more consistent waterings, and less volume each time and hoping she will bounce back. Luckily if I do end up making her too sick I did get some cuts to root and I can save a mom. I thought thing we're going to smoothly and i got a little busy and wasn't paying attention enough to the signs she was showing me and acting appropriately, and only thought that I was overwatering. I think i am going to add a little bit of the calijuana worm castings and water in with some pure protein to try and get her to green up a little. Wondering if my problems are more to blame from my environment rather than my inputs.

I finally was able to start steering the Nevilles back to better health. You can see the new grow is much greener and the old stuff is starting to change back to green. I removed a few yellow and dying leaves but she seems to be getting more green over all. She is still stretching and the buds are actually starting to look like something. The first thing I did was top dressed with the soil mix I used to fill the pots initially as I purposefully left some room for top dresses and it also started to settle quite a bit.I think I had a few air pockets which was also leading to in-proper watering. I removed as much of the wood shavings as possible then added an entire 5-gallon bucket of soil to the top making sure to fill the spaces around the edges of the pot and watered in with a mix of liquid kelp buddha bloom and cal mag. I have a batch of Boogie Brew going that she will get fed and by next week she she be good as new! Not sure if I'm going to need another scrog net or not the stems are pretty strong and fairly thick

She still stretch quite a bit. The new growth is looking much better but now starting to get some leaf tip burn. The watering cycle is a bit messed up she seems to be real thirsty yet show signs of over watering. It is sitting closer to the air inlet so I think that is drying the pot out quicker and the heat in the tent is a few degree high at times. But she is doing pretty good overall. Cleaned her up nice and got rid of the old dead stuff and spread some of the shoots and gave her a few nice waterings. And an extra one this morning because it dried out faster than the black jack that I've been watering together.

Shes not stretching quite as fast this week but the buds are getting fatter and longer by the day. Starting to notice a piny undertone but not much smell yet. Started to see the beginnings of some frost. I dimmed the light in the tent as i think the heat is one of the issues im having with her. I was watching a Breeders Syndicate youtube with the ownerof Super sativa seed club and he was saying that the long flowering sativas will do poorly if even a day or of temps above 82f. Which my inexperience was telling me that its a sativa and shouldn't mind the warmer temps. And the black jack seemed to be pushing through. And also suggested to keep it in the mid to low 70's for the true sativas in flower. I also think that my soil is not the best draining. I had alot of ocean forrest mixed in, and i used lava rock for drainage, but i had no pearlite at the time and i think that would help the bottom of my pots drain better.

About halfway through flower for the Nevilles Haze, and the buds are getting big and long slowly but surely. It's kind of hard to tell by the pictures though. Showing no signs of slowing down yet either. I still can't figure out what I'm doing to make her leaves so crispy and curl but she keeps on putting off nice green new growth and seems to be mostly healthy otherwise. She likes a ton of water. It's like I can never keep it wet enough. Some days im giving her 4 or more gallons of water and the next day it's almost bone dry on top. I got my daytime temps down to 77 but still have the light up all the way. She's only in the 800 ppfd range so I don't think light stress is the issue. I guess my soil is maybe just a little too rich for her liking. I will need to do a little more planning the next time I try an almost pure haze. Gave one feed with the water but mostly just plain water this week and i noticed the soil level dropped so I topped that off again. Last time I did it she greened up a bit too so hopefully that helps. I still think she is going to turn out amazing.

My Neville's haze is starting to be hard to look at. Cant tell if Is watering issue, nute burn or excess. I thinking maybe K deficiency. Shes been drinking close to 4 gallons of water a day or more and soil dries very quick. After watering I notice the new growth looks good

Given that she's been guzzling down water like there's no tomorrow and the soil's drying out super quick, it could be a watering issue. Maybe she's not getting enough water, or perhaps you're overwatering her. But considering you're noticing good new growth after watering, it might not be a water problem after all. It's possible it could be a nutrient deficiency, like you mentioned with potassium. Since she's been drinking so much, she might be using up nutrients faster than usual. I'd consider giving her a good flush with some pH-balanced water to clear out any excess salts or buildup in the soil, then maybe hit her with a balanced nutrient solution to see if that helps. (Check the EC/PPM of the runoff to monitor for any salt buildup) Keep an eye on her and see how she responds. Plants can be tricky sometimes, but with a little TLC, she'll hopefully bounce back. Good luck, and happy growing! 🌿🔥

Nevilles still struggling but doing better with keeping the pot more moist. The new growth looks good still. Switching to water at least once a day. Got a feed of compost tea after some plain water most of the week. Buds still getting bigger by the day. Noticed some branches making smaller buds than others and a little stunted it seems but who knows they may end up being normal sized buds once shes done and the bugger ones bow are just going to be giant.

The Nevs haze is looking a little rough around the edges but is doing not to bad overall. The buds are getting massive now and arm length. I was away unexpectedly for a trip for 3 days and was unable to care for the plants for 3 days and has to water them heavy before i went. Noticed the new growth looking very good but still seems to get leaf curling at the tips.

The crispy leaves have been distracting to the fact that the Nevilles buds are now almost a foot long and 3 inches in diameter. Shes starting to smell more and more every day and shes finally starting to develop some trichomes. Not sure if she will need the full 16 weeks to finish but i will let her go as long as i can I can only imagine how big the buds will be then. She started to slow down on the water uptake so maybe she'll be almost done stretching and bulking up.

Nevilles is chugging along nicely. Buds are still getting fatter and they are finally putting on a considerable amount of trichomes. Getting smellier by the day. Very piny earthy and woody, reminds me of the Durban but no anise. Plan on lettering her go the full 16 weeks at least but shes looking almost ready in a week or two. Going to have to figure out if i will be harvesting the same time as my liberty or if i will be able to stager my harvest by two weeks to allow one to dry in the same space.

Believe it or not the buds on her are still getting bigger, but this week mostly just developing frost. Smell is musky, piney, slightly sweet, and seems like it might start leaning into catpiss territory soon. Been feeding low dose of buddha bloom 3/4 waterings, I may switch to water only these last few weeks once the buds stop swelling. Can't believe the size of these buds, they looked like little clover buds in week two and now are arm sized. In other news my Morel spot produced nice this year! Going to try to innoculate my pots with some of the spores and see if i can get any to assosiate with the cannabis

Shes almost done. Just a few more weeks. Shes getting very frosty and sticky now. Going to switch to molasses feeds until she is ready. I'm thinking i will need to get some 1/2 gallon glass jar to store some of the larger nugs.

The Nevilles is covered in old crispy leaves but despite this is pushing out new healthy green growth and the buds are still swelling and putting off new white hairs. But you can tell she is getting close to being finished. She's getting frostier and smellier by the day. I did dim the light slightly the other day and dropped the temps of my tent down by a few degrees and that seemed to make her happy. I'm thinking that my problem with her could have just been a lot to do with light/heat stress all along. As she looked amazing before switching her to the flower tent with my new more powerful lights. Gave her some molasass water

The Nevilles Haze may take twice as long as some other crosses but She might produce twice as much flower, so It's really less work if that is the case. Shes starting to stop growing now and is very frosty and smelly. She will be ready to cut down by the end of the week. I'm hoping that the liberty doesn't need to go to 9 weeks so I can harvest together and get the new stuff in as soon as possible because it will need to veg for a week or two. Nevilles is really doing better with slightly lower temps. Karl from SSSC was right. No hotter than 78 agrees or so. I think my problems were mainly due to heat stress and some watering issues not nutrient burn itself. Been plucking out the crusty stuff buy the main stem of the leave here and there. Gave just a little bit of the boogie brew and a feeding of molasses.

Well, It was a sad week for the Nevilles. Two days before I was about to cut her down I noticed one of the smaller buds had bud rot. Which prompted me to peek into the fat colas to which my misfortune of finding more. It was cloudy and rainy with very high humidity for almost 3 weeks straight and my nighttime humidity got into the high 70's in the tent for a few days. I think i also was over watering toward the end, trying to get her to finish. I cut off the damaged buds and chopped her down to dry out in my studio by herself. After a couple days of hanging i was able to find a little more and picked off anything that could potentially ruin the rest of the batch. The next time i start getting buds with fat colas like this I am going to think about harvesting early to save the crop, because In reality i could have picked her a 2 weeks sooner and i don't think i would have had any rot and still would have had some great smoke. Also think that If i had had her more healthy along the way she would have been a little more resistant. Man that is such a bummer, but with colas that big i should have know i could have had issues. I think everything was on autopilot and had other stuff going on, i obviously let her get away. But luckily it looks like only 5-10 percent loss at most. Shes smelling and looking amazing aside from her issues.

A fairly hard plant to grow but worth is if you love sativas and have the time and space. I've always wanted to try it so I had to grow it. Would recommend having a few sativa dominant grows under your belt before trying this because it took the full 16 weeks although i could have harvested starting around 14. It may take twice as long in flower but you could get twice the yield of any other plant if done right. You can also do a shorter veg which saves time and money. Another thing is that is was fairly easy to trim and the fastest plant I've trimmed so far. I think it could be a commercially viable option if people actually cared to give people some variety in their medicine. This is unlike any other weed I've smoked in my memory and seems to really help me focus. The germination rate was lower than normal but this is something you should run from a clone anyway so that you can ensure it will have the right to want to flower. I've heard of people having to use 11/13 to get it to flower. But I had luck with the normal 12/12 8 weeks from seed.

What a journey it was growing this plant. I flowered the full 16 weeks. I should have known It would not be easy to do indoors. I would not have expected to get such large dense colas from the plant I vegged. The amount of stretch was crazy in flower. And the fact that all the nodes filled in with buds makes this a really good plant for yield. This was my highest-yielding plant so far. I was able to train her just right so I didn't run out of space but that is one of the main considerations for growing this plant. She does not like to be too hot. Anything over 78 F and she was getting stressed. Was growing alongside two other 8-week strains that favored the conditions fine when it got above 80 a few days . Rained 3 weeks in a row and the humidity was very high I got some bud rot the last few days of flower only on the biggest colas. I lost 1/5 of the harvest but still managed a very good yield. The smell is piny, herbal and flowery and when smoke almost doesn't taste like cannabis but like some herbal smoke. It is also some of the smoothest weed I've smoked. The high is also very unique and while there is a little bit of a body high it feels more like a reverberation from the intense head high. Will make you productive and alert and focused. High lasts about 2 hours. But I still need to cure. I hope the trippy comes out more with time. Lost 100 grams to bud rot but good news I still jarred 17.4 ounces of trimmed good stuff. I burned the bad stuff and the trim in my fire pit and got a contact high at least. Hope I never have to do that again. Trimming took 6 hours. I started by bucking down the hangers and carefully inspecting inside every bud and sat aside anything that was even suspected of bud rot. I trimmed and jarred once's up as i went as try to to keep things from getting as contaminated as possible. Once i was done through that i went though the suspect buds and removed the good bits and have in a separate jar just for myself to smoke out the bong asap. and burned the bad stuff in the fire pit. If I see it start to turn bad I'm just going to toss it. No need to be smoking moldy buds. The rot really only affected the tops of the biggest colas in the center. Had I not suffered the bud rot the yield would have been 21 ounces! Was going to mark the final yield based on what was good but that damn auto flower mutant I just grew messed my yield ratio up lol , and I technically grew the bud I just can't smoke it, and that is its potential for the conditions I gave it. So i am counting it as 21. I feel like If I did it again perfectly I could get 2.5 due to the fact i still have quite a bit of space I could have stretched into. While she did stretch a lot from mid to late flower it's not as much as I expected and I had a little more room that I could have veged another week or two. I really though it was going to be to the ceiling with tall skinny lanky buds So i flipped to flower I few weeks later than I had with my other grows. I was not expecting these cannon buds. Seem's like having the lights a the top of the tent and having them as powerful as they can be without any extra stress or harm to the plants decide where they need to stretch to and find the sweet spot themselves.

@MindFlowers68, You're welcome! I'm glad you found the response helpful. It's great to hear that you seen some improvement after the top dressing and pH-ed water flush. Keeping a close eye on soil moisture and adjusting your watering schedule accordingly sounds like a good plan. And hey, even if she's not looking her absolute best, it's clear you're doing your best to support her through to harvest. Those big buds sound promising, and I'm sure she'll still deliver some potent effects, even if she's not picture-perfect. One of good improvement I've made is adding a fan at pot level. This helps to facilitate water evaporation from the pot, which in turn prevents issues such as overwatering and root rot. Keep up the good work, and here's to a successful harvest! If you ever have more questions or need advice, don't hesitate to reach out. Happy growing! 🌿👨‍🌾

@iLoveGoodWeed, Thank you. Thanks for your response to my question. I got some good answers. I basically did what you described by top dressing after a nice ph-ed water flush and that's when I started to notice the greener new growth but I steered her back off track again somehow. I think skipping watering in between days the soil moisture was "adequate" I used the ecowitt soil moisture meters that constantly monitor the moisture content but only measure on the top. my other plants have been getting similar feedings and waterings and haven't shown the same issues. I'm going to try to water her every day and slowly introduce some food. She is almost done anyway and shes still making some nice big buds. i heard a story about some subpar grown/cured nevilles haze that got nickname "the party wrecker" because it got everyone so stoned they couldn't even talk. I think she's still gonna be amazing, but never nice to see your girls struggle and not look their most beautiful

She got so big it made your 4x8 look like a 2x4 holy cow. Beautiful grow, sorry to read about the bud rot, but awesome job none the less. I hope i can pull that kinda bud one day ✌️

@LadyKiller, haha, Right man. Thanks, dude. You will get there. Finished trimming last night and I lost 100g due to rot. The good news I still have over a pound of buds without any bud rot, so it's hard to be too sad. I threw the bad stuff in my campfire with the trim from my blackjack and the stems and got a contact high off the fire. the whole neighborhood must have smelled like weed for hours. although the Nevilles is very interesting smell, almost doesn't smell like cannabis when burning. I was very relaxed the rest of the day

wow sick plants! Also very interesting report, because especially one of my plants does show the exact same signs in flower week 2-3 too! thin hanging leaves at the top buds looking kinda overwatered while she is thirsty AF. Plant also is next to intake too but she does recover after watering and looking healthy next day and then drooping starts again even though soil is still moist. What do you think was your main change that helped her get in track?
MindFlowers68
MindFlowers68commented9 months ago
@taprootArmy, Thank you! It's really hard to say, I think we have compounding issues going on. This is not an easy strain to grow to begin with. So i think once she started declining it was hard to set her back on the path and she never grew to her full potential. I think it is mostly environmental factors, and watering too much. I don't think the air inlet is making that much a difference for me. Pretty sure my lights were just too intense. I noticed the Nevilles declining when I moved her to my newly step-up flower tent. I had the temps around 84 during the day when I needed them to be around 78 for this strain. That's caused her to want to drink and more but I think my soil down low was too rich for her and she didn't want to put her roots down into for a while and the bottom was still wet. I also directly sowed the seed in the 30-gallon pot which was not the best idea to begin with. Nevilles Haze has been quite the learning experience. I am smoking a joint of it now as I type. It's been drying for 9 days. I trimmed up a few ounces to jar up and see how the humidity is stilling to see if I want to finish trimming the rest. I did get a decent amount of bud rot. Only in the huge colas. I already picked out a few big colas before I started drying. I've heard it called the curse of a good grower when the big colas get it, but I think if I got my humidity down at the expense of higher temps, I could have avoided the bud rot. I got a chance to dig up the stum and down low it was pretty wet and slightly anaerobic smelling. they did sit outside for a week so I'm not sure if that was because of the rain or from what I had watered but botrytis affects the roots too, and it didn't seem like it was root rot in the pot. But the bud rot could have started from me watering too much.It rained for 3 weeks straight the last 3 weeks of a 16 week flower and 90 percent humidity outside and didn't make things easy. When I grow this strain again it will be during the dead of winter. I'll have to take a look at your diary but If it's just a slight droop it's overwatered. When thirsty they should droop nearly vertly downward. If i get the same thing going on I may try to let them dry out 5-7 days then dunk them in regular water then wait to water for another 4-5 days with some kelp or something low dose of nutrients.
the end.
