WEEK ZERO
====================================
THURSDAY 10/18:
My beans will arrive on 10/19, and I'm ready for them!
I've come to believe that with so few total days that an autoflower will live, it's an absurd waste of time to sprout them in paper towels and then transfer them to media. From my best guesstimation, I'm wasting 2-3 days time with each seedling while they acclimate to new media..plus I've had some catastrophic penetrations of the paper towel by the tap root that led to failures to emerge from the soil.
I'm gonna try a little experiment with rapid rooter cubes and grodan rockwool cubes this time around. I'm planting 2 x C4's, one in each starter media and germinating in an enclosed tray.
Once I start to see roots, I'll open up the vents on the chamber for a day, then plant them in 3 gallon fabric pots.
FRIDAY 10/19:
1 pair of C4 seeds are soaking!
SATURDAY 10/20:
Both seeds sank.
SUNDAY 10/21:
Both seeds sprouted and were planted. It's on!👍
I have the 75w blue/white LED panel about 18" above them, and the 730nm far red light kicking on for an hour, every 6 hours.
MONDAY 10/22:
Nuttin yet..
TUESDAY 10/23:
Both seedlings emerged!
WEDNESDAY 10/24:
Looking good.👍
=============================================
WEEK ONE
=============================================
THURSDAY 10/25:
Both seedlings had taproots at least 2 inches out of their cubes, so I planted them.
FRIDAY:
I didn't soak them well enough yesterday and wasn't able to check them til late today...suffered a casualty 😪
I dropped 2 more C4 seeds in purified water...an expensive mistake that will also be a pain in my ass to manage...I'm such a dumbass..
SATURDAY:
The survivor is looking good today and both beans I floated sunk and sprouted.
I planted them both in rockwool cubes today.
SUNDAY:
The survivor looks great, but neither of the sprouts I put into rockwool cubes has emerged yet.
MONDAY:
Another C4 emerged!!! Her older sister and I are ecstatic!😅
The other C4 bean in rockwool has yet to show her pretty face.
TUESDAY:
I planted the new C4 seedling today. Her older sister has quite a head-start..
WEDNESDAY:
I see another C4 sprout just beneath the surface...maybe tomorrow.
The seedling I planted yesterday is looking good, and the original survivor looks great. I fed her about 32oz of ph'd water with nutes today...her first taste.
The big girl is named "Charlene" and the little girl is named "Charlotte"...if the new baby shows her pretty face, she shall be called "Chelsea."
THURSDAY 11/1:
Chelsea emerged today and looks quite happy. I'll plant her tomorrow.
Charlotte is doing well for a 3-day old...loving life.
Charlene doubled in size since her first feeding yesterday...she likes the nutes.
I've decided to try a 20/4 light cycle for this crop to see if it helps with keeping my foliage intact a little longer through the season...plus, I want my average tent temps about 4-5 degrees cooler this time to see how much it helps with terpene production/preservation. I will continue supplementing with 4 Exhale bags in an effort to keep PPM's above 1300, even when the exhaust is running..that and the addition of silica in their diet should help mitigate the higher temps they'll experience from time to time...it's a very mild winter thus far, so it's hard to maintain consistent temps. I'll veg them at 24/0 until I'm seeing pistils poppin on the majority of them, then change to 20/4.
FRIDAY:
Chelsea was planted today, so that's 3, I say again, 3 x C4's growing!
SATURDAY:
Ch arlene - is such a showoff..she's determined to set world records
Ch arlotte - is happy to be out from under her dome in the bright blue 'sunshine'😎
Ch elsea - is just happy to be alive..she had a brush with death today..almost dried out..😴
SUNDAY:
I fed Charlene about 32oz of ph'd water with early veg nutes and foliar fed them both. Just ph'd water for Charlotte.
MONDAY:
Just gave Charlene about 16oz of ph'd water today, foliar fed and rotated her. I just wet Charlotte's soil with ph'd water and foliar fed her.
TUESDAY:
I fed Charlene 32oz of ph'd water with full strength veg nutes and moved some lights much closer to the canopy today. I just gave Charlotte plain ph'd water and foliar fed her.
WEDNESDAY:
D-day (Daylight)
I put them into overdrive and kicked on the 1500w light at about 30" and left the blues on them at 8" to 12" and all the cool white side lights...grow babies grow.
I don't think Chelsea is gonna make it...😞
THURSDAY 11/8:
I watered them and foliar fed them a few times throughout the day.
I added a 100w CXB3590 today at about 30" from the canopy. If temps stay manageable, I'll add another one tomorrow.
FRIDAY:
Charlene is in beast mode and Charlotte is finally visibly bigger from day to day. It's not looking good for baby Chelsea, but she's still technically alive..😟
I lowered the lights about 4 inches, added a 100w bridgelux 3500k COB, and tilted the blue/white panels at a 45 degree angle. The blue Miracle LED's are still within a foot of them, too.
SATURDAY:
I fed them both about 40oz of ph'd tap water with full-strength veg nutes.
SUNDAY:
Both girls are growing well. Charlotte even starting growing upwards today...baby Chelsea, on the other hand, is knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's door. 😞
I FIM'd Charlene today, and lowered the lights another few inches.
MONDAY:
Took some photos...rearranged a little and foliar fed several times today.
Charlene didn't even seem to notice that I FIM'd her..grew another inch overnight. 👍
(Queue the funeral march)...Chelsea is no more.😤
TUESDAY:
I watered them today with about 32oz of ph'd water and a little boomerang and bud candy. I also foliar them a few times. Charlene's lower branches are growing well, so I did some leaf tucking on her.
I added another 40w 5000k daylight bulb in a dim area and reconfigured my ventilation. I'm exhausting the tent much quicker now, so the temps are considerably lower, but at the cost of lower co2 ppms..😕
WEDNESDAY:
I foliar fed them both today and rearranged the garden. Charlene has an abundance of lower branching but yet to take off towards the "sun." I forgot to take a photo of Charlotte😏..but she's looking good, too.
THURSDAY:
Both girls are happy and healthy as I enter week 4. Charlene has the 70's porn bush going on and her little sister, Charlotte, is now about 5 inches tall.
I fed them both about 40oz of ph'd full-strength veg nutes today and foliar fed a few times.
FRIDAY:
I foliar fed a few times and rotated them. Added some more blue light to the tent.
SATURDAY:
I gave them about 40oz of ph'd water each, with calimagic, bud candy, and terpinator. Charlene is flowering now. 😍
Did a photo session-
SUNDAY:
I foliar fed a few times, and ogled them for a bit...
MONDAY:
I gave them both their first big drink..about 1/3 gallons of ph'd water with full strength veg nutes. Possibly Charlene's last big dose of nitrogen..she's budding up pretty well now.
TUESDAY:
Both plants look good..wish they'd show me some more upward growth.
I changed out all the blues for reds and added a 120w 3000k quantum board to the garden.
WEDNESDAY:
A lot of growth today, but I'm seeing a little light burn, so I raised the lights a few inches. Improved ventilation a bit..temps are very steady now.
I'll change the lights to 20/4 in a few more days.
I took some photos and foliar fed a few times..rearranged the garden a bit.
THURSDAY - 11/22 (Thanksgiving Day)
I was out of town all day, so didn't spend any time with the girls...but I monitored them throughout the day with the nanny-cam...technology that I am thankful for. 😁
FRIDAY:
Both Charlene and Charlotte are some sexy little bitches that are quickly out-growing their training bras. 😆
I watered them today with ph'd water, some boomerang, calimagic, bud candy, and terpinator.
I foliar fed a couple times and rearranged the garden. I swapped out my 1500w blurple light for the 2000w blurple light....so now I'm pushing 1000 actual LED draw watts in the 4 x 4...kinda ridiculous, but in a good way.😎Tomorrow I'll swap out the 60w 3500k COB with a 100w Citizen Clu048 to fully overpower the remaining visible purple light with white light. Temps are about 90f by the end of the day and drop to 74f for the 4 hours of darkness they are now getting.
SATURDAY:
I foliar fed a few times and added the extra 40w of white COB light. Moved the fan and put my 4th Exhale bag in the tent..it's almost used up, so time to order another. Took some photos.1
SUNDAY:
I slowly fed each of them about 48oz of ph'd water with the full regimen of bloom nutes and foliar fed a few times. The 4th bag of Exhale really bumped the CO2 PPM's up nicely..if I keep my exhaust fan on about 50% and it's a cold day, it works out great and the high reaches about 84....but sadly, if it's not a cold day, I'm pushing 90f for about 8 hours..but very rich in CO2.....
Bottom line is that I think I'm running too many lighting watts in this tent if I can't maintain a more consistent air intake temperature. I'll probably go back with the 1500w blurple because it runs a few degrees cooler than the 2000w, so that will put me back to about 925w actual draw watts...at least until we have another cold spell.
MONDAY:
I foliar fed a few times and rotated them. Took some photos of lovely Charlene's buds...nice colors starting to come through!😍
TUESDAY:
I foliar fed a few times and spun them around. Charlene continues to impress me with her perky little pink/purple buds. Charlotte has her work cut out for her if she's gonna be more special than her older sister.
WEDNESDAY:
It was a good week for them both. Both plants grew a few inches they are flowering well. I watered them today, each with about 1/3 gallon of ph'd water, bud candy, terpinator, and extra calimagic. I foilar fed a few times and rotated them.
THURSDAY 11/29:
I'm really digging these lovely little ladies.😍
Short, compact, bushy, quick, and easy.
I foliar fed a few times and did a photo session.
FRIDAY:
Not seeing much more upward growth from Charlotte...she needs to stretch a bit so as to make some bigass buds.
Charlene went from an A-cup to a B-cup overnight...you go girl! I foliar fed and tweaked a few things today.
SATURDAY:
I foliar fed them a few times and rotated them and improved ventilation a bit. I fed them today with full strength bloom nutes...about 1/3 gallon each. Temps are staying at or below 84 now, so I'll add more light!!!😎
SUNDAY:
I foliar fed them a few times today. No upward growth to speak of today, but they continue to pack on the pistils. Charlene may be the only plant in the garden to show me special colors...kinda disappointed..
MONDAY:
I foliar fed Charlotte and spring water misted Charlene a few times to remove residue from the foliar feeding regimen. I rearranged the garden a little and re-positioned my nanny cam.
THURSDAY 12/6:
I didn't update for a couple days, so reminding myself that I fertilized them both on Wednesday..but only about 1/3 gallon.
Almost overnight Charlene yellowed up really badly on most of her big older fan leaves. I guess she needed more N last week. It's a little late in the game do do anything much about it now, so I just have to hope she's got the energy to grow those pretty little buds out for me. Charlotte is super happy with life, but quite a bit slower than her sister. I gave her a little extra N yesterday in case she's like her sister. She has loads of bud sites..great potential.
I added a 20w 3000k Par38 spot about 12" above Charlotte. She's all lit up.😎
Photos tomorrow.
FRIDAY:
I watered them until I had about 20% runoff...about 1/2 gallon each. Calimagic, bud candy, terpinator, and armor si only. Took glamour shots and floated 4 more C4 beans😁
SATURDAY:
I rotated her and added a UVB light in a reflector about 8 inches from her nuggs.
SUNDAY:
I fed them about 3/4 gallon each with all the good stuff, plus added Bembe this time. I planted the 4 new C4 sprouts in rockwool cubes. I'll grow them with the Candy Canes and Diesel(s?)
MONDAY:
Evidently I should have calibrated my PH pen...damnit! I really PHukt them up. That's 2 fucking crops in a row...
It looks like I'm having a terrible boron deficiency and that they were badly overwatered, but I know better...@#!$%^
Charlene looks so burnt up! (Shame..(ding).....Shame..(ding)....Shame..(ding)...)
TUESDAY:
I flushed them today with about 2 gallons each of 6.2 PH'd water including Sledgehammer, Calimagic, and Boomerang. Fingers crosses that they snap out of it quickly. On a good note, I moved them into big tent with all the other bloomers. They were surprised to find that they had almost 25% more available PPFD across the whole garden (my new light was finally delivered!)
THURSDAY 12/13:
It's looking like I'll have to harvest Charlene early...and Charlotte might die.
PHukt her up badly...so fuckin angry and sad about it.😖😪
FRIDAY:
😢
SATURDAY:
Charlotte is still very moist from flushing.
I am starting flushing of Charlene..she's pretty close to finished..about 50% cloudy trichromes.
SUNDAY:
I gave Charlotte some ph'd water today with a little boomerang...not sure why I'm trying to save her..I guess because she was such a lovely little plant...😤
I put a 4.5l cool mist humidifier in the tent to raise the RH a little. It's pointed at Charlotte for a couple seconds at a time until the fan changes things..
MONDAY:
I cut the top half of most of Charlotte's buds off and threw them in a jar. They were pretty much crispy but will go into the trim bag for making e-liquid with.
Now I'm starting to believe I'm dealing with actual light burn! I think the new lights are just too intense for the distance I have them at...at least at this stage of flowering. I've dimmed them to 90% for now...
TUESDAY:
I fed Charlotte another heavy dose of boomerang with calimagic in 1/3 gallon's of properly ph'd water. I finally ordered some Kelp Me Kelp You...little too late for her to see any benefit, though... 😏
I flushed Charlene with 2 gallons of spring water and a heavy dose of bembe, ph'd to 6.2. Next time I'll do 2 gallons of just ph'd spring water.
In addition to the light burn issue, the new lights lower the RH in the tent waaay too much, so I've temporarily got a 4-liter cool-mist humidifier filled with ice cubes running for about 10 hours at a time before it goes dry. That's raised the average RH from 21% to 28% and lowered the average temps by a couple of degrees as well...still not good enough.
So, I ordered a small evaporative cooler to put in the tent, up on the shelf. It holds a little over 2 gallons of ice water and oscillates. The new light is IP65, so a few drops raining down here and there should make no difference, but the added cooler airflow should really help to bring up the RH and lower my average temps.
WEDNESDAY:
The two new 85w individual OSRAM bar lights came in today and I hung them in the 1-foot wide area just below the shelf. Now I've got awesome coverage all the way across the 5 x 4. They put off some heat and I don't have any plants under them right now, so they are turned off. Love the spectrum they produce..the white is 3200k..but they just have two red diodes every 12 inches of bar, whereas my 10-bar fixture has 3500k, but 6 x reds per 12 inches of bar. The OSRAM diodes are every bit as bright if not brighter than the Samsung LM561C diodes, but all those deep red Cree XPE's on the fixture give it a much better spike in the 660nm range.
It will be awesome being able to independently lower the lights in a 1' x 4' section of the garden. When you have dwarves to deal with, it's so much better than putting them on buckets..
That's a total of 1010w actual draw watts at full power in my 4 x 5 tent...sweet...just gotta get the RH and temp under control.
It would take a seriously full tent for me to even consider turning on the extra 100w of side lights...but they're there if I need them 👍
THURSDAY 12/20:
Charlene is still popping pistils, but I went ahead and flushed her again today with 2 gallons of ph'd water, some bembe, and some terpinator. Her trichromes are only about 50-60% cloudy still..might've started flushing a little too soon...
Charlotte looks pathetic...so sad about her demise. She'll end up in the trim bag for making e-liquid I guess..
One of my 2 x C4 seedlings is already purple in the middle??...really???
FRIDAY:
The new evaporative cooler is working pretty well in the tent. High temp was 84f with it running on medium and with ice in the reservoir. That's a win. I suspect that when I need to run the other two 85w bar lights it will be pushing 90f again unless I run it on high. RH is is staying between 38% and 45%, which is another win!
SATURDAY:
I flushed Charlene again today with 2 gallons of ph'd water + bembe. Next time will just be plain water..Charlotte is super fugly but I'm trying to kickstart her again..she's just making leaves it seems.
SUNDAY:
Photo session today..Charlene posed well for me, but it was hard to take photos of poor Charlotte...
Charlene's got a few ambers now...last flush will be on Tuesday.👌
THURSDAY 12/27:
She's still basking under the UVB lights...probably gonna kill her tomorrow.👍
FRIDAY:
She's dead and drying. Love that funky aroma and colors..like nothing I've ever grown!😋
TUESDAY:
...almost dry!😁
THURSDAY 1/3:
I still haven't weighed up Charlene, but continuing to cure her. Nice aroma now!
Charlotte actually got fed one last dose of cha ching, terpinator, bembe, and bud candy today. I'll start flushing her when she dries out again. She's actually very frosty for such a wimpy plant. I might have fukterup, but she's still gonna fukmeup too I think.
SUNDAY:
I flushed her with about 3 gallons of spring water with sledgehammer and bembe, ph'd to 6.2. Next time will just be plain spring water. I think she'll end up making about 20-25g...maybe a little more if I can dry her properly.
Aroma: 8/10
Flavor: 8/10
Bag appeal: 7/10
Potency: 6/10
Yield: 3/10
Ease of growth: 7/10
Tolerance to mistreatment: 2/10
(ph fluctuations and high temperatures --> 95f )
Overall, I give it a 5/10, but I've got two more growing now. If I can avoid the PH and temperature problems from this grow, I have high hopes that they will outperform these two plants in yield, bag appeal, and potency.🙏
