Commencing week 3/Day 15 on November 7th* My πŸ‹ 🍰 (Lemon Cake) & πŸŒ»πŸ’£ (Flower Bomb) cross stock/stash has been transferred into foam cups with Pro-Mix. Light water with spring water and misting and they look like happy babies under the same lights in my parlor/living room they have been under since being sown. After transplanting the personal stock; I moved the germination tray and dome along with the remaining GZs, BHs, 818s, and RD into the basement aka 'grow area' to acclimate: as this will be their new home. This basement is my hydroponic grow area and has a much lower ambient temperature - which is great for flowering - but can be tricky with vegging depending on how this winter 2018 treats us New Englanders. We shall see. Also the humidity is harder to control but I believe this year I am better prepared to manage optimally. So now in order to follow along I must explain this. I have separated the seeds doc from my own and the feminized ones I have paid for. The stats reflected in the diary that you will now see Will Follow the hydro setup but I will continue to explain in the comment section the soil grow up stairs stats. Day 15 my personal stock will remain upstairs underneath the 600 watt umbrella Hood that is dialed down to 250 Watts. (Which is shared with house plants). The lighting shedule here is 12/12. the intention here is to basically treat them as houseplants and be happy with whatever I get while I take note of phenotype variation and maybe hopefully I'll find a keeper or two πŸ˜„ They are now in one quart size foam cups of Pro-mix. the ambient temperature is 75 degrees and the humidity stays around 55. Day 15 my paid for/professionally bred seedlings were acclimated to their new environment in the basement for a little while and then transplanted into their new outfits: 3.5 gallon deep water culture (DWC) buckets with 6 inch net pots, lava rock medium and regular 2 inch airstones. These plants are under a predominantly T5 lighting with the exception of two being under T5 and a diamond series LED with flowering Spectrum turned completely off and vegging Spectrum dial down to only 50 Watts. The lighting plan here is to keep them under 24 hours for just a few days. Day18 the Gorillaz are beastly little things. They are growing the fastest and largest. The Boss and the Raspberry are close behind the GZ and tied for second place. The 818's still seem to be runt-like. Otherwise all in the hydro looks healthy. Also last night I put timers on so the plants are getting 16/8 (in the form of 8hrs on followed by 4hrs off. This happens 2x per 24hr day. Reason being that I've read the rate of photosynthesis peaks at 6hrs and then descends) lastly I've been PHing daily down stairs only making minor adjustments and keeping the PPM between 550-600 ppms Day18 the Parlor stock is still doing well also. I've noticed this so far as differences:. The leafs are smaller and darker then the basement strains. And there seems to be more stem growth, or maybe stretch. Otherwise these plants are rivals the others in size. Except for the 2 πŸ‹ 🍰 seedling that popped open almost a week after the others. Day 21Nov21 - the PH is staying nice around 5.8 for 3 days now with no minor adjustments. Removed all mini plant stakes (ie paperclips etc lol), little baby seedlings no longer need help staying propped up. Root hairs are poking out in every direction of Root Riot cubes, (see video) excited because once those roots hit the waterrrrrrrr πŸ’£boom explosive growth! As far as growth goes all three GZ still in lead. I might even have one early starting purpleπŸ’œ 🦍 baby (see pic of GZ2 DAY 21) *This is day 15 from seeds being sown on Oct 22nd, not popped open and or tap root showing etc.

Has anyone any relevant and useful knowledge in light schedule (ie. 12/12 or 6 on 6 off) manipulation, even if experimental data or personal experience?

The plants need 12 hours of UNINTERRUPTED darkness to flower, which means that something like 6/6 will not trigger flowering. What I've read about is something called extended light schedule: With a digital timer, you set lights for periods of 21:36 hours (21 hrs 36 mins) and lights off periods of 12 hours), this will give you an exact week that has 5 extended days (for a total of 33 hours 36 mins per "day"). The data I read states that the aditional light hours increases yield. Also important, going over 21 or 22 hours of light does nothing since there's a point where the added light reaches a saturation point and the plant can't use it. I havent tested it though

Don't plan on topping. Someone want to talk me into it? Just weigh out some pros and cons; and I'll pick the most informative and relevant answer, and maybe even change my mind. πŸ˜„πŸ‘

Hi there @Green_Friends_Inc! The apical meristem (top bud site) uses Auxin to restrict secondary buds sites from developing in a process called Apical dominance. This allows for higher amounts of hormones to be delivered to the leading bud sites compared to the side-shoots. This is why we Top our plants!! By removing/topping the apical budsite you are turning the the next two stems into apically dominant sites leading to a more even distribution in Bud growth a wider plants. Topping is all about distributing the hormones equally to more branches as apposed to the single Apical bud site! Its a very good technique to use when trying to maintain a shorter bulkier plant. I know you aren't topping this cycle, but perhaps I convinced you for the next one haha best of luck friend! 😎

To everyone that answered my question in regards to topping all were on point answers with great rational and perspective. I appreciate the time and effort to help so much ! In the end I chose to leave the plants in as much as their natural shape/structure that my grow allowed. This was done in order to: not slow down the plant whatsoever, and to learn what natural shape each plant would ultimately show. This is done because I often use this information for my personal breeding purposes. However, this does not mean I did nothing. All plants had roughly 25% of fan leaves removed. The main grow area plants (GZ1,2,3+818#1+RD) all were "Bent-Topped"* right before starting 12/12. And once every two weeks since I have done some VERY LST to spread of the budsites towards the lighting to allow for better penetration. "Bent-Topped"* = By this I mean I bent (without snapping*) the main apex stem 2 nodes down and held in place usuing bonsai wire. This, as @hightv stated, distributed plant horomones more evenly throughout the entire plant; and in doing so also helped level out my canopy; lastly but most importantly I was able to better manage and control the stretch that was about to take place! All with out the stunting effect that completely topping a plant can sometimes have πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ‘

@Green_Friends_Inc, I agree wholeheartedly with the approach. HST probably best way to go late veg. If ur avoiding recovery time. I woulda considered topping much earlier in the grow anyway (but I don’t have the kinda space you do so it’s all relativeπŸ˜‰).

Buds are looking great this week. Seem pretty big for only the 4th week of flower. Bummer with the ph/ppm meter, sometimes i think they just build those things to break. I hope the mega crop turns out good. ✌️

@Green_Friends_Inc, lol thats hilarious! I had some microbes this summer that smelled like some animals fecal matter too...what animal...god only knows.
Green_Friends_Inc
Green_Friends_Inccommented6 years ago
@Experimentgreen, Tyvm! Hopefully they keep this growth rate up, DWC has shown me quicker harvests. And the mega crop was recommended by another user on growdiaries. Stuff looks like a protein shake and smells like 🐦 poop lol. Only time will tell now so we'll just have to wait and see either way πŸ˜„ Funny story about the pH meter. When the new one didn't arrive this morning I decided to try and fix the old one. All I did was take aluminum foil and wrap it around the metal connectors for the pH socket and then wrapped each the pH, PPM, and temperature wires in alot of black electric tape and Bam!! Working. Even better than before I think.... Which leads me to believe that all along for the past few weeks I have been pHing my plants slightly off of what I thought I was... Then this afternoon my new meter arrives and.... not only does it not come calibrated, but it came with a socket that looks like it plugs into a wall in China or Europe somewhere definitely not American plug... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ At least I have one working (correctly I hope) for now and it seems to be working enough because when I used it today the plants looked a little bit greener afterwards. in the next few days I'm going to have to check and compare against a friends meter or something to see if mine still calibrated correctly. πŸ‘

Bro, how do you use the clonex? She look very nice. Congra
Green_Friends_Inc
Green_Friends_Inccommented6 years ago
@Deepgrow, Tyvm! I actually use Clonex throughout the entire grow - from seedling up to last few weeks of bloom - very sparingly, like 1/4 recommended dose if that. Reason being a long while back when I first was learning DWC I was cash strapped and had nothing else to use... so I used all I had at the time which was only some Clonex (liquid not gel). I was incredibly surprised when the plants grew so quickly and healthy. Since then it's been part of my regiment πŸ˜πŸ‘ Ps I also use (in like 1/10 recommended dose) Clonex in Veg phase as foliar feed.

@CRiSPrGrow, tyvm!! "Change comes without progress, but progress does not come without change" Hoping to make the *winning combination* even betterπŸ€” Won't know until I at least try and if it doesn't work.....it's a lesson learned and I will go right back to what does !πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜

@Mrs_Larimar, thank you I put hours in yesterday installing and dialing everything in preparation for flowering!πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ‘ Borrowed some lighting from a friend. Found the three COBs in black panel on Amazon for 17 usd a piece. They pull 50 watts I measured but we're advertised to pull a lot more. I'm happy with them though and look forward to seeing what they can do. Either way I like the way CFL/FL & LED grows taste idk if it's weird or just me or what lol

Hi there, 3.2e.c? Are we sure about this? In Deep Water Culture....? I'm also in DWC Barney gorilla zkittlez, week 2 flower and I'm currently on 1.1 e.c, the leaves are a deep green any more and I'd risk the tips burning... Never in 8 years have I ever used higher than 1.8 e.c for any strain in DWC,coco or soil. I am truly baffled πŸ€” Kind regards Bigface

@Green_Friends_Inc, it's not so much I need feedback on my personal e.c levels as I'm sure I'm on the mark, they are rather large, considering only 6week from seed vegetative stage.... more for your keen eye and experience in spotting that keeper fire πŸ”₯ phenotype... p.s Im using advanced nutrients ph perfect for this run

@Green_Friends_Inc, Hey mate, thankyou for the reply....I shall post you some pics of my girls tomorrow. 4x gorilla zkittlez, they are week 2 flower so maybe you could spot the πŸ”₯ phenotype from my pics and il do some late cloning as I've been lazy and yet to 🍭 them! Failing that il make sure to monster crop the fire pheno either way πŸ˜πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ
