Gave her 48 hours in a glass of distilled water (in the dark, near a heat source). Put her directly in the final pot (3gal fabric) ... put a self-watering stake in the soil ... and then immediately left to go on vacation for 9 days.
I was on vacation this whole week - for 9 days ... and on 2 of those days, the lights failed to come on as scheduled (I believe the dimmer switch on the light occasionally glitches). So, when I got home at the end of this week - she'd done a bit of stretching.
It seems like she's back on schedule ... but, I think I might have topped her a node too soon ... didn't really count, just felt like it was the right time to clip the top. We'll see what that changes, but she hasn't slowed much or anything. I've been thoroughly impressed by these Mephisto Genetics!
This diary is not showing in my list of diaries ... think this site is glitched. I might need to redo this one ...
June 3 (Day 21) ... just hit three weeks. She isn't growing vertically much - has pretty tight node spacing at the moment. I did just top her last week, so I'm just waiting for the rebound ... trying to keep the huge fan leaves out of the way to let the nodes get more light and gain some momentum. Only a tiny bit of nutrients added - mostly just a bit of leftover from feeding a larger plant ... so she did get a little extra of everything ... but trying to keep it to plain water (w/calmag) since the FFOF (Fox Farms Ocean Forest) is usually hot enough for the first 3-4 weeks. When she starts that pre-flower stretch, that's when I'll start adding nutrients in anticipation of the usual deficiencies that show up around week 5. We'll see.
Also ... I've had some views and comments recently on my various diaries and just wanted to take a quick sec to thank YOU - whomever you are - for reading, viewing, chillin like villains ... whatever you're doing here :) I have a few other grows I haven't posted, yet ... already harvested and smoked, so I'll try to get those up shortly (Strawberry Banana and Forbidden Runtz - FastBuds). For now, I'm trying to get through the batch of Mephisto seeds I purchased - I might plant one of their freebies in another week or two ... I think it's Mango Smile x Northern Cheese Haze.
I thought she wasn't growing much vertically - turns out it was just that the entire canopy is growing vertically at the same rate .... so it's maintained a huge bushy canopy. Not sure if that's a good sign or not - or if it matters at all ... right now she's still super bushy but I see preflower starting .... hoping she'll grow up a bit more - it's hard right now to separate the branches since all the leaves are overlapping. Regardless, she's nice and bright green with no spots or deficiencies .... yet (that tends to happen early in flower). I have decided that I'm not going to top the next plant, though. This one remained stunted longer than my other Mephisto strains did.
She's hit preflower ... looks like she'll have a nice even canopy ... just did some minor LST (trying not to do too much) just to get more of the bud sites exposed to the light. When I topped her a couple weeks ago, she stayed stunted for several days and didn't grow much ... but she seems to be back on track now - rockin and rollin!
She does have a pretty even canopy ... quite a few bud sites showing ... should get nice coverage from above - should result in some nice "tops".
When these buds started thickening up a bit ... this canopy is going to look awesome - a rolling landscape of frosty peaks (at least I hope they're frosty!)
This girl got a lot bigger than I thought she would ... very nice canopy - there should be quite a few really decent "tops" on her. The frost is already getting nice and thick - extending out onto the first sugar leaves ... I think that's a good sign! The other big plant in my tent will be harvested next week - giving this girl plenty of room to stretch out.
just started week 8 ... looks good - no major deficiencies or problems as of yet .... hoping that these PH Perfect nutes are better than the FF Trio ... plus I'm actually trying to follow the schedule a little more closely (eg. adding in Voodoo Juice for the first couple weeks of flower, etc.)
Update 2024-07-08 .... I love seeing such a visual layer of frost at this stage in flower .... I'm really hoping that's a good sign that these might be the sticky ickay ... fingers crossed!
Update 2024-07-12 ... still growing strong ... buds starting to plump up slowly ... but still frosty :) ... no discernable smell yet, though ... I'm excited either way - frostyyyyyy :)
She's a beauty ... slowly thickening up a bit ... buds are semi-firm, but smaller nugs. I think she's got ~3 weeks left, so I'm hoping she plumps up more. She's got the frost ... just need the chunk now!
Well ... she looks fantastic. Nice and green - still ... (I think that means I'm dialing in the feeding schedule better with each grow) ... very frosty ... which gets me excited; however, there is one thing that worries me she won't be very potent ... and that's NO SMELL. I can squeeze those buds and get no smell at all (other than "plant" smell). That's such a shame ... I know Pinot is one of the milder wines, so maybe it'll develop more subtle aromas as it ages :-p
Near the end of the week ... buds are slowly getting thicker .... the frost is strong on this one ... but, still no smell :(
So frosty now ... beautiful!
I think next week will be time to chop ... I'm still seeing new growth all over, though - and it's not foxtailing ... so, I'm waiting patiently. Her buds seem fairly solid/dense, but just not very big at this point. I'm giving her as much time as I can. The trichomes show she still has some more time ... not hardly any amber, yet (and still a fair amount of glassy trikes) She has a very, VERY subtle smell ... but I'd still have to say I'm disappointed in the nose on this girl .... but she's starting to show her fall colors and has almost all zebra leaves at this point - very sexy (especially in the dark with the flash turned on).
She looks good on the outside ... can't wait to see how she tickles my brain :)
Trying to be patient ... it takes an effort all its own :) There's still new growth happening - chunkin up ... thought I'd be harvesting this coming week, but it might take another week for her to finish. I don't want to jump the gun.
I think it's time ... probably later this week ... she could probably go another week ... it's such a hard decision - I don't know if the potency changes a whole lot in the period of a week ... especially at this point in the grow. Just going with my gut ....
Oh ya ... also, the branches are all falling out to one side ... some branches are sticking out horizontally ... so, ya, I think she's ready :)
I am pleasantly surprised with this one ... I was worried, because she doesn't have a very strong scent at all ... barely smell anything at all. When trimmed, I did get a more pronounced scent of herbs ... smells a bit like rosemary, I think ... perhaps herbs mixed with a little bit of diesel/gas smell.
The smell aside ... the smoke is pretty nice. The smoke itself is a bit thicker - and perhaps a tad more harsh on the throat ... but not a bad hit.
The high is very nice ... a bit trippy in the eyeballs ... takes a good 10 mins to fully creep up on ya .... but damn, very nice when it does! I will most definitely be planting another - soon! ps. the yield wasn't bad either, so I'm happy there, too!
Also ... kinda wish I coulda gotten my tent a few degrees lower ... those purples were really starting to come out. Next time :)
Not much to say ... she had a nice slow dry ... 11-12 days. Most of the buds are still quite springy/spongy ... tips are nice and crispy. Scissors got gunked up and needed to be cleaned multiple times throughout.
Well done! She's looking great!
Thank you for your detailed description. I was getting worried because my Pinot Noir is showing the same symptoms as yours on week 3/4 (27 days now). She seems stunted and has shown almost no vertical growth this week, but as you reported, she is very bushy with an even canopy.
And your diary brought me some relief.
