June 1: placed sprouted seed into soil in a peat pot. Sitting on heating mat at 25 C in the dark with a slice of apple to provide ethylene gas. This apple trick only works before seedlings are exposed to light apparently.
This Auto Overdose is a replacement for my failed Auto Opium dirary. I lost an Opium seed opening the package, one was too cold and wouldn’t germinate, and the last one got too hot and was cooked under the light. Oops. C’est la vie. Try again with the Auto Overdose this time.
June 7: started another Auto Overdose because this first one also did not develop in soil.
The problem appears to be using an apple slice. The idea is to apply ethylene gas briefly at an early stage of seed development. See July 2023 PNAS paper by E. Brenya

But, it seems an apple slice is not working. I used a whole apple when starting the photoperiods, tomatoes and peppers, and it seemed fine, but all the recent autos where i used an apple slice failed. Maybe the browning (oxidation) of the apple flesh gives off the wrong kind of gas. Try again.
