BillMonroe I want to try this strain. I've learned a lot, again. Let's try to put it to practice. ==== Plagron lightmix Plagron nutrients 3L Airpot 210W (actual draw) LED veg 315W CMH flowering Total ppms = 220-240 ppm tap water (~0.5EC) + whatever nutrient ==== -- Day 1 (after ~40hrs of germination) Really impressed with the uniformity of germination. All seedlings emerged from soil after 4 hours in water (quick sinkers) and subsequently 36hrs in seedling soil at 23-24C. Plant them 5mm deep with the pointy end up so they make their bend and shed the seed casing -- Day 2 Switched lighting to 19.5/4.5 Plans: add 120mm fan(s), add 2x50W 3k COB for some normal white light

BillMonroe I haven't even watered yet, haha. What should I say. I'm thinking about topping for 4 colas this week (i.e. top above the 2nd node). I really liked the result from topping at the 4th node so I probably won't 😁 --Day 12: watered

BillMonroestarted grow question 7y ago
Indoor growers, what's your favorite node to top? 😊 Do you prefer topping above the 2nd node for 4 big colas ("uncle ben method"), or the 3rd, 4th, ..., for a bushier plant? . Please share your opinion if you have tried some methods 👍

HighTVanswered grow question 7y ago
Nice question BillMonroe! The first thing I look at is the photoperiod of the plant. With Normal Photoperiod plants how much time you spend waiting for a recovery is your only enemy and you can always rely on controlling the light cycle to extend the veg time. With this in mind I personally top early between the 2nd/3rd node with 5 finger leaves so I can train the plant down short as early as possible. Its all about preference and how much time you are willing to spend for recovery. If you don't have much time, waiting till the 4th/5th node can lead to a faster recovery. With Autoflowers I only top healthy plants by cutting the third node with 5 finger leaves off leaving two 5 finger leaf nodes (see week 4 day 23 my Green Crack Auto). Most people don't top Autos, however I find it to be successful on a healthy plant. Your plant is looking healthy and clean friend! Best of luck! 😎

BillMonroe Nice growth this week! I hope to top and clone later on. I probably won't do any topping experiments this time but I may try some suggestions in the next grow. Oops. I thought I was on 19.5 hours but I was actually on a 22.5 hour light schedule... Timer error. Sorry for these shitty LED pictures, I hate them too. Before I top I will take some pictures in better light. Anyway, SSH is super vigorous. There is variety between the plants but they are pretty similar so far. Have a good week everyone

BillMonroe Ok the problem was twofold. Soil was wet and my nutrient dose was too low. I was also a bit busy and my peat soil shop closed so I have yet to source it from somewhere I had some deficiencies in this week that are fixed now. Growth was stunted and some leaves yellowed a bit. The problem is I couldn't water them quickly because the soil stays moist for so damn long under this purple crap. Don't get one folks just build Citizen or whatever COBs if you want cheap good led. The pots are pretty thoroughly rooted so I started to feed 700 ppm dose when I could. All the pics are lazy and after spraying or watering cause these were some busy weeks I culled one plant with really thin stems, after practicing my abuse skills Anyway they are going under the CMH later

BillMonroe I've been busy so these plants are absolutely bursting from their way too small containers. Some yellowing occurred and it's getting a lot better now after feeding more. They just need to get into bigger soil ASAP haha.

BillMonroe Finally they are in new pots, hooray. They greened up quite nicely after feedings, and resumed growing vigorously. No hope to flower these out in my limited height as they were, so we end week 7 with kind of a haircut. We're in no hurry so they'll have time to recover. Can't be bothered to do the airpots so I'm using 14L square pots. Just bottom fed some 6.5 PH water.

BillMonroe Here's something I learned from a podcast about defoliation. If a leaf is getting less than 200 µmol/s, it's a sink that does not contribute.

BillMonroe The timer is on 13 hours and 15 minutes. 😉 Did you know there is never a 12 hour night in Afghanistan? The longest night is 11 hours and 10 minutes, excluding twilight. That one plant decided to grow a main cola anyway. The differences between plants have evened out and they are looking rather similar at this point. Undoubtedly that will change again.

BillMonroe 3 of them are starting to smell really hazy. A lovely smell. The fastest fattest plant looks like an indica phenotype which will be done way sooner. It smells sweet. There are big differences between the hazy ones but they smell very alike. I wonder which one will become the keeper. #1 haze smell with tighter stacked flowers and bigger leaves #2 indica smell, fastest #3 thinnest leaf haze smell, slowest #4 stretchy haze with heavy lanky branches I'm predicting that #2 will be done soon and it must be a NL or skunk dominant plant. Maybe someone who has seen skunk and/or NL can inform me. Doesn't smell hazy at all but if it packs the potency it looks like an interesting plant to keep. I'd like to keep a haze plant that doesn't take too long to finish. I predict #3 will take the longest but I'm really interested with its funny development and thin leaves. #1 smells super hazy but looks quite indica with how tight the nodes and leaves are. I can't even get a good picture of its tops. #4 is a funny plant and a difficult to manage one. It has some mutations on the leaves and overall did not strike me as an outstanding plant so I did not clone it. However it seems to be producing a whole lot of bud, perhaps the biggest yielding and fastest of the haze smellers.

BillMonroe Oh well... something always has to go wrong I guess. If it's not mites or mildew, your bulb dies after about 2300 hrs of use. On the bright side, branches are falling over, and THC is everywhere,

BillMonroe Dank smells and no pests or plagues going into week 9 so I'm happy. I think the fattest plant is going to be ready soon-ish. There are big differences between these 4 plants. One is very interesting with strong heavy branches, tight internodes and big leaves, and a real Haze smell. The other big yielder smells like an indica plant and is covered in trichomes.

I am happy with this grow, each plant has its own characteristics and they all seem to be of high quality in their own right. RIP Nevil Schoenmakers sad news this week

BillMonroe Smooth sailing. It's crowded so it's a challenge to take pictures. These plants have just kept going and going. It's a good grow to me. I forgot to change it, but the lights have been on 12/12 for 2 weeks. Dehumidifier and other decisions have helped me to have a pest and plague free grow (knock knock).

BillMonroe Lights to 11.5 hrs, temps dropped, light raised, let's finish! I think next week it's time to cut them. More branches are falling over from #2 (back right) and it's yellowing nicely. #3 (front right) could use 2 or 3 more weeks but I don't think I will take it that long. It's a low yielder but its structure is very sativa. Smells good. #1 (back left) and #4 (front left) smell roughly the same, #1 makes very heavy branches and dense tops. Its looks are deceiving, hiding its yield under big leaves. Thanks for the interest. I hope your grow is as lucky as this current one. It has been really fun to experience the different phenotypes of SSH. Stay tuned for the harvest report. Hopefully I can take some better pictures.

BillMonroe So... where were we? I don't know, my memory has been kinda hazy lately. Plants #1, #2 and #4 were extreme yielders... I don't know what to say. I stopped weighing after 500... there was too much weed for me to handle. It was just everywhere and the room was a mess. It took me weeks to finish harvesting the last plant because I was quite busy. Overall the plants are pretty high thc. Each plant is very unique. 3 out of 4 smell haze-y , the other one smells sweet. as you can see in the previous weeks these plants are extreme producers. Vigorous growth all throughout... easy strong plants. The airiest plant which looks most sativa is A quality... really unique smoke, 11/10 2 others are 7/10 Then we have a 8/10 I have to average it out so I will go with 8/10 for me personally. I must add that I usually enjoy indica type more Looking forward to the next grow... actually it's already happening... I was just working on some things and took a small break ========== (update) I have to change it to 9/10 because this SSH#3 is truly some of the most amazing weed. I never in my life had something so sticky from anywhere, except hash. Don't crumble it with your hand because everything will stick to your fingers. I bought a grinder specifically for this weed. The structure is a bit like Dr Grinspoon pictures. Stems with calyxes on them. The other phenotypes did not approach this. But this is really a gem. I can't bring buds of this plant anywhere without stinking up the whole room. So for me this was a 1-in-4 but they all were. Very different plants. Unfortunately I threw away the clone, but it could/should have also gone like 14 or 16 weeks total. I'd rather grow something a bit quicker. SSH#2 could have been cut way earlier, same for SSH#1. I personally could have ended their life quicker by reducing the DLI By the way, don't be tempted to toss the weakest plant. I numbered them according to my expectations and indeed #1 and #2 were the easiest, fastest and most robust plants. The buds quality of #1 and #2 is good. However #4 unexpectedly actually yielded equally and grew lanky tops the size of my forearm. #3 was the best
