📆 Germination Week, 6-12 November 2024
6 Nov - Placed 3 seeds in a cup of RO water, put in seedling grow tent under 20hrs light at 25% power, temp 74 degrees F.
8 Nov - 2 seeds cracked, roots appeared. Placed into Root Riot starter cubes.
10 Nov - 1st seed sprouted from starter cube. Waiting for some roots to appear from starter cube before moving to a permanent DWC system (see pictures).
11-12 Nov - Let seedling grow.
💚 Thank you Seedsman Seeds! I’m very excited to be a sponsored participant and given the opportunity to cultivate during SeedsmanSeeds Halloween Growoff this year!
📑 The strain I received was Black Sugar 2.0. This is a new pre-release from Seedsman Seeds. Its genetic information is not available from their web page yet. Improving from the original strain would make this a great addition to the indica line up of high THC producers.
📑 The Plan - use a Deep Water Culture, 2 gal system, as a permanent home. Apply a weekly feeding schedule using time tested blends of Terra Aquatica (formerly General Hydroponics), Botanicare, and Europonics nutrients throughout the cycle. Depending on the speed of the grow, veg the plant for 6-8 weeks using the scrog method of training. Then flip into flower where she will continue for another 8-9 weeks. So my forecast is this grow should be finished around the end of February 2025.

📆 Week 1, 13-19 November 2024
13 Nov - Root appeared through the RootRiot cube, moved seedling to permanent 2gal DWC home (see pictures). Adjusted light DLI to 18.
14-19 Nov - Let seedling grow.
📑 In Deep Water Culture, it is very hard to sprout a seed directly in the “permanent home”. It is more designed to receive a seedling rather than sprout one. This of course is my experience and the reason why I allow root to appear from the rootriot cube before moving the seedling into its permanent home, I know the plant has began to search for water. I plant it where the root will go through a hole in the bottom of the basket, then fill the basket with expanded clay. The seedling has immediate access to the nutrient reservoir. It is an easy but tedious process, I do not water from the top, other than a daily top off. The nutrient solution for the first 2 weeks is minimum and will not burn the plant or roots.

📆 Week 2, 20-26 November 2024
20 Nov - Adjusted light power to 50%, DLI is 25 at 20hrs.
20-26 Nov - Observed and let the seedling grow.
📑 The only problem this week has been the fluctuation in VPD. Because of this stress, ranging between 1.3 to 1.8, the seedling is showing it by the leaves curling slightly. As it grows bigger it will even this out naturally. Right now it is growing just fine although it could be a bit healthier - if I added some moisture into the tent. I’ll continue to observe daily for more serious signs if it continues.

📆 Week 3, 27 November - 3 December 2024
27 Nov - 3 Dec - Observed and let the seedling grow.
📑 Another stressful week for Black Sugar. My region had cold spell that fell into the teens farenheight, this caused dryer humidity conditions inside the tent. The VPD continues to fluctuate outside the ideal range for growth and stresses the plant out some. She is still growing fine although it could be a bit healthier. I prefer to see leaves pointing up, but for now it is what it is.

Week 4, 4-10 December 2024
4-10 Dec - Observed and let the seedling grow. Turned light power down to 25%, to help ease VPD stress.
This was not as stressful a week for Black Sugar. My regions cold spell has left and the humidity has returned to 50%. The VPD is back within ideal range for growth. I have turned the light back to 25% power, DLI is 18 canopy coverage to help ease with the stress.

Week 5, 11-17 December 2024
11 Dec - Turned light power up to 50%.
12-17 Dec - Observed and let the seedling grow.
This was an excellant growth week for Black Sugar and she has developed into a beautiful plant. Turned the light power up to 50%, DLI is 30. I’m moving her into a bigger tent today, the extra large leaves she produces will outgrow the space in a relatively short time. At this rate I’ll flip her into pre-flower within the next couple of weeks.

📆 Week 6, 18-24 December 2024
18 Dec - Moved plant into bigger tent, Marshydro 48”x48”x55” with a larger light, ViperSpector XS2000. Did a light defoliation of upper leaves.
19-24 Dec - Observed and let the seedling grow.
📑 Black Sugar is quite vigorous and pure indica as displayed by her wide and large fat leaves. The DLI is set at 30. I’ll flip her into pre-flower after this week.
Merry Christmas to everyone!

📆 Week 7, 25-31 December 2024
25 Dec - Flipped time schedule to 12/12. Turned light to 75% power.
25-31 Dec - Observed and let the plant grow.
📑 Black Sugar was flipped into pre-flower 12/12 time schedule this week. Light power increased to 75% and DLI to 35.Until I see pistol and bud formations, usually about 2 weeks, I consider the plant is still in a veg or pre-flower state. It helps me keep track of a more accurate mature timeline as well. When I see pistols and buds my Diary will reflect a flower week.

📆 Week 8, 1-7 January 2025
1-7 Jan - Observed and let the plant grow.
7 Jan - Removed some unwanted side shoots.
📑 Black Sugar is in its second week of preflower now and looking good. Shes just beginning to show signs of pistols and stretching so I’ll wait another week to consider her in flower. I removed some unwanted side shoots from the main branches this week, but will hold off on any defoliation for an another week or two. The plant is growing very evenly in height with little manipulation.

13 Jan - Removed some unwanted side shoots.
Black Sugar is in flower now and looking good. I removed some more unwanted side shoots from the main branches this week, but will hold off on any defoliation for a another week or two. The plant continues to grow very evenly in height.

Week 10, 15-21 January 2025
15-21 Jan - Observed and let the plant grow.
Black Sugar is stretching out and in full flower now. I defoliated a few lower leaves to help prevent the plant from drinking itself dry daily. The large, thick Indica leaves take up a lot of water and she has more than enough to grow some awesome buds. The plant still continues to grow incredibly even in height and is well on her way to producing some great results.

📆 Week 11, 22-28 January 2025
22-28 Jan - Observed and let the plant grow.
📑 Black Sugar has an intense sweet smell now. The PH drifted quite a bit this week into the lower side of the scale of 5.5 and this caused some leaf damage in some of the upper canopy. It’s not a big problem but one I try to avoid. This will be remedied by simply removing the affected leaves, and keeping a better control of the PH fluctuations.

Week 12, 29-31 January - 1-4 February 2025
29 Jan - 4 Feb - Observed and let the plant grow.
Black Sugar is bulking up now and the smell is so sweet. I removed few lower yellowing leaves, and inner buds this week that were small and distrubted a good airflow through the center of the plant. There is no need to defoliate any more at this time. Will continue to observe and watch it grow.
