AUSTRALIAN OUTDOOR SCROG IN POLYTUNNEL

@Mrs_Larimar, sticky tape (don't even bother with the more expensive stuff, just use cheap masking tape, maybe colour it with some turmeric if it's not yellow enough) definitely works for decreasing fungus gnat populations, some sugar traps near that too. I also used some custom "pesticide" (on the soil, more as an aromatic or olfactory deterrent than anything) made from a variety of plants I've got growing here or have at my disposal and dumped a bunch of river sand over the top soil. Fungus gnat infestation pretty much annihilated in a few days. All of those things I think contributed to some extent to getting rid of the gnats. Caterpillars are probably worse though (if you're dealing with a bunch of large plants), they'll eat straight through flowers and get like 10x larger in a day, and their droppings (while technically worm castings and maybe even full of thc) promotes fungus of course. It doesn't help if they're the fcking same colour as the plants and tend to only be easily visible and active at night. I also leave predators mostly, yeah, even try to attract them. Spiders, wasps, ladybugs, mantis, etc. Since my plants have been flowering for a while I don't spray at all. When they get excessively wet, shaking them helps too. Which I'd actually recommend people to do fairly often (outdoors) as it dislodges a bunch of (caterpillar, etc) crap and debris, clears water (in case of fungus worries) and probably acts like very low stress training, which could strengthen the plant a bit. *Sidenote: I tried a bunch of stuff directly on caterpillars and NONE of it worked, pure vinegar, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Absolutely no effect on the caterpillar so I wouldn't even bother trying to use sprays or something on them (those light green caterpillars, I forget the name), they are incredibly tough, eat any of that stuff and just shit it out within a minute or so. The sprays and pesticides might however have a better effect on deterring the moths and killing eggs though. I can't say, too noob to know that.

@@@Ssomeguy,ok thy good to know, but i dont spray it, i give it in the waterings...... but i overthink that now.......The best results i get with a combination of predatores, sticky traps and neem in the vegetation

@Mrs_Larimar, I've had some issues resulting from exactly that, like a week's worth of rain, constantly. The combination of cool, dark and humid does no good unless it's for a short time. Fungus gnat infestations, caterpillars, a tiny bit of mould, ants farming scales and larvae and shit, etc. But I have learned a lot. *BTW, call me crazy, but I noticed something about caterpillars and the most recommended pesticides which is quite ironic. And I'll explain why I avoid it (BT). BT was initially sourced from caterpillars/moths (popularized right after ww2). BT (modified) kills bees, spiders, wasps (notice that much of these are caterpillar and moth predators) and a number of other things such as beneficial nematodes, microbes (unless I'm horribly mistaken). Yet, it's recommended as an "organic" agent against caterpillars/moths. Bayer/Monsanto logic right there, and I ain't buying.

@DILLIGAF, It’s a pleasant dream! - I haven’t grown autos so I can’t truly speak to the matter, but don’t they finish before ever reaching that size? Is Jack auto or photo? You’re outdoors, so that helps yield multi fold compared to indoors. But it’s tough to get a half pound from photos that live for seven months. Abundant Aussie sunshine I’m guessing yields huge if you get started early. Best wishes for a great harvest, mate! I’m excited here as it’s the ideal time to plant outdoors. I tossed 600 seeds around DC Saturday. Gonna grow it everywhere! No one will be able to stop it!

@OutForReal, Hi mate it absolutely seems to be helping as I have not seen any signs of insect attack or mites etc and it's also a natural source of silica for the plants root system so very happy with the results so far. I am being fairly frugal with the watering on these girls as i want to keep the environment as dry as possible to combat mold because the pots are below ground level. I haven;t noticed any sign of stress as the days have been cooler lately😀

@OutForReal, hi mate nah it's diatomaceous earth mixed with H2O and I gave one last foliar spray while I had the chance. I have been using it successfully on my vegie garden for years to deter bugs and the pesky wildlife from having a chew on my plants... seems to work really well for the vegetables so I am using on the weed too. Do you think I may need to remove some foliage at some stage ? Cheers

@DILLIGAF, They're looking healthy. Though I'm a newbie, I've noticed that my plants (random bagseeds) just keep on layering the flowers (some at 9-10 weeks flowering and still going), so essentially it's like the inner parts are being cured so slightly lower THC (not significantly, considering the light exposure is low) but higher CBD/CBN, and the outer parts more THC (from my understanding). Another thing to consider there, as my plants are still bulking significantly and some are kinda bendy due to weight now. *Edit, sorry, didn't notice your mention of DE, which I've also used quite a bit of.

@DILLIGAF, yeah I've been using similar amounts of molasses and some other carbs, I've given my plants like bottlebrush and hibiscus teas too. (oils for microbes, some sugars and terpenes) and that combination smells absolutely incredible. It's like, the sweetest smelling stuff (in a good way) you can find.

@@@Ssomeguy, yes I added some mollasses to my last feed I used about 2 spoonfuls per 9 litre watering can .. mix well then add the 10mls of monsta bud mix again and ph to 6.3ish

@DILLIGAF, I can't quite remember, but did you add molasses recently? Yeah for support, another scrog layer would probably work, unfortunately it's a bit inconvenient considering circumstances for me.

@Mrs_Larimar, lol that's ok a lot of people mistakenly think of oz as all arid country but that is really only the interior desert country. I live in a southern area surrounded by forrests , rivers and we get about 1000mm of rain annually 😀

@Mrs_Larimar, you have a fair point about heavy defoliation outdoors, as the sun comes from many angles, naturally allowing better light penetration to bud sites, than regular indoor lights hanging above canopy. Although a bushy plant is a bushy plant and will sure benefit from some defoliation to allow better air flow and space for buds to develop.
