Friday 15th February 2019 - germinated & planted - So, I've added the first week in early so I can maybe get some criticism on my first grow in a micro environment. This is my first ever grow, with organic products and tap water. I'm not after anything crazy but I'd like a good smooth first run. I'm just a little worried on how well I'm doing the germination process as everywhere I read have a different way of doing this. As most of my stuff is organic I thought the glass of water then soil method would be most viable, but what I've done is drop my seeds in room temperature water and just waited till then dropped to the bottom and once that was done I've then transferred then into their main pots. They've been in a darkish space with just an intake fan on keeping the temp and humidity around 22c/60h, I keep spraying the walls of the grow room and the top soil of the pots twice a day, it's now been 4 days and I'm wondering if this is all ok. Any help will be greatly appreciated. ******* 19/02/19 2 seeds are now seedlings with 1 more waiting to pop. I've now put a full 24 hour lighting on at 90cm above the plant tops. ******* 22/02/19 It's been exactly a week since I germinated and planted 3 seeds, of which I forgot to mention that 1 of them is Royal Jack but I accidently mixed the seeds together when germinated (haha classic) so it's a gamble for a week and with help from a great community I think I can say I'm off to a good start. I've not watered or added anything apart from spraying the walls and topsoil with leached tap water. Going by the dated pictures everything is growing fine apart from one of the plants stretching a bit, but with guidance I've lowered my light and hope the little babe will be comfy with that. I'm looking on adding a very light dosage of rootbastic with the first water maybe mid next week but my soil is still rather moist. ******* 24/02/19 Came home to 2 of the seedlings having toppled over but still facing the LED so I believe this must of happened early on yesterday, so I've dug them in a little deeper in their pots hoping they've been saved....there's no visible snap or damage but I'm a little dubious about the root system still being ok and intact from digging it in deeper. I've added pictures of how they are looking now. I believe the toppling is due to over stretching and needing a water. I've mixed 0.1ml of Atami Rootbastic with 1litre of water shared between the 3 pots for a little hydration. *******

Grow Questions

This is my first time growing, so I'm very noob. I'm worried about 2 of my seedlings, one is rather stretched with drooped leaves and the other has a malformed 1st leaf. They are only 6 days old, should I be worrying?

Malformed 1st leaves happen, see my Dwarfen Lady diary. She had a strange growth pattern at first, but pulled through and developed to be the biggest girl in the box. So nothing to worry about ... yet. The stretching of the other one is a different matter. Looks like she is getting not enough light to me. I would lower the grow light by at least 30-40 cm. I tried to have a distance of 40-50 cm between light and plants, and that worked for me

So, something has happened, thinking it's either a nute lock or cal-mag deficiency so thinking a flush and then no nute feed with cal-mag. Should I be worried? Is this at all save-able? I fed them with bites about 4days ago. Really don't know what to do

Hey there Red, yeah man of course it's saveable, veg is great because veg is veg and the plant will recover, eventually. So basically you have a standard calcium deficiency, even though you're in soil for two reasons. First, the light schedule is too intense so the plant is going into overdrive and it simply cant absorb enough calcium through its roots. Second, I see you're not checking the pH of the feed, this is going to lead to such problems , for example the rooting agent you're using is going to raise the pH of the soil and this will cause problems. The solutions are simple though, so no worries ! first get some cal mag and add it to the feed every now and then , use the cal mag as a spray 2ml / L . the spray will help the plant get better quicker because absorption through the leaves is much quicker than through the roots. And finally get some cheap pH strips so you can pH your waterings : you're aiming for 6.0 in soil. (pH of rain water is 5.5. ) By the way i wouldnt flush, a flush is actually a pretty stressful thing for a plant, there's no need. If anything you could reduce the light schedule to reduce the stress on the plant. One last thing: dont feed every time ! you should feed once every three waterings ! hope this helps ! 🚀

I'm starting to have leaves showing deficiency on new leaves right at the top, rusty and spikey edges, fading to yellow. I thought phosphorous deficiency but after adding ashes, no luck. I have added pics. Hope someone can help. Cheers

38cm is too close for a light of that intensity.

Can't thank this community enough, the amount of knowledge I'm gaining is priceless and can't wait to pass it on through life.

Could be a bit of light burn seems like most of the damage is in the top of the main cola. You can see the edges of the leaf blades are curling up which means their heat stressed. I would raise the light up. Invest in a PAR meter it will help you judge how intense your led will be on the parts closest to the light.

@Red_i_jedi, Those buds look great brother. A little bit of leaf burn near the end is no big deal at least the buds weren't hit. Looking forward to your harvest soon.

@Philindicus, Cheers bud. I went and changed the LED rig and got a good 10cm out of it. I think this should sort it now. Thanks again.

@StonedWolf, yo, My area is 85.5w X 45d X 165h so we're very similar in that aspect. I've just had a look through the LED manual and it states that it's 600w LED that replaces 450w HID, only draws around 120w out of the socket....or so it says, I've heard that the real LED wattage isn't really what the manufacturer states but a bit under? Onwards and upwards from here I hope

@Red_i_jedi, yes, we have a very similar stealth wardrobe setup 😎 How big is your growing area? Mine is 50 X 80 cm, with a total height of 165cm And you have a much bigger grow light. Does it really draw 600 W from the wall? Or is it a equivalent to a 600 W HID? Mine says 300 W, but draws only 136 W for real. Anyway, I guess your light is at least double the strength of mine.

@StonedWolf,Cheers dude, it's my first grow with anything so I'm a little dubious. It's been 3 days so hoping to see something popping up soon Just had a gander over your way and seen you're in a similar setup as me! Nice build!

@CRiSPrGrow, Yo dude! thanks so much for the information it was a god send. I've ordered myself a PH and a TDS stick as well as Cal-mag and PH up+down. I've also changed the lighting schedule to 18-6 and hightened the light to 50cm. Thanks again Bulbi, i'll let you know how it goes.
