* Day 04: Added some Azomite to the soil.
Hi guys, this is my third grow, but the first one with a top quality seed from a trusted seed bank.
In the first try I've made a lot of errors and got little yield, and in the second run I got a little bit better with some lst and more light.
This time I'll be growing in a small 2x2x5 tent with two fans for air circulation, an extractor and for the lights I got two 50w 3400K home made COB chips and a Wattshine P450 panel, the total real wattage is 168w. I'm thinking about adding two more of the COB chips, I will tell if I do so.
So, this is my first top quality strain, I hope to have learned a little bit more so I can do better then the last and keep improving. I also have other plants in the house: tomatoes, coriander, rosemary, oreganus, aloe vera, thyme and a few others.
As people might now, here in Brazil pot is still ilegal, growing also, so I do a stealth grow while hiding in plain site. My tent is in the kitchen of my apartment and is perfectly integrated to the ambient's layout. When people come I take the girl(s) out to the closet or bathroom and leave only the vegetables, so people is used to the tent, and as they have already looked some time before, they tend to forget about it, so in time I just leave the girl(s) there and they don't even care to ask about the tent anymore. I've been successful till now, but it takes some care.
So... Northern Lights by Sensi Seeds, a dream coming in true. I can't wait for the girl to pop out, I soaked her for 8h overnight in plain water and planted directly in soil. The media is a mix of spagnhum peat and vermiculite. I did a bed with endomycorrhizae and covered it in moistered soil. I've add a thin plastic layer with some small holes on top of the pot as to keep humidity high, but I don't think I need it as I'm growing in the Amazon rain forest in Brazil, and the air humidity here right now is around 90% outside and 83% inside and not it's not a joke. =)
So, keep following if you want to check it out and exchange some advices and errors, I will be glad to follow your diaries along too, just introduce yourself.

According to the Biobizz chart I should start at 15cm with 2 to 4 leaves. I have 10cm with two leaves. Should I start nutrients? From the chart.. 2ml/l BioHeaven... but if I would, how much would you advice? and when?
Hi, I read all the same stuff, you don't need to feed for a couple of weeks.
They do sell sead starter nutrients and I think it is ok to add them. On the last few strains I started I fed a weak dose. I used basically 1/8 what you should normally feed. The dose is weak and gives them just a bit of food. I do a Feed, water the next two times then feed again. Gradually increasing the dose through vegetation. Be sure to ph your water. I did not think you have to and ran into issues. I have been told by others they never ph'd in the past and had bot ran into trouble. They have better luck than me. Best to be safe and do it.
Constantly watch the plant for any signs like leaf tip burn.

Hi guys, been busy and got late updating the diary, sorry.
She's doing fine I guess, what do you think? She has 10 days today, gave a little bioheaven some days ago, and she loved it. Also I think she's liking the Azomite too, zero deficiencies till now, at least for now I think.
Next feed I will give her 1/4 dosage Biogrow + 1/2 dosage BioHeaven.
She will be transplanted to a 3gal pot around 19-21 april. Her final resting place.
Any suggestions are always welcome!

I never had a plant that had 30cm and lots of branches and leaves like this one on the 20th day, doesn't she look fantastic? I don't know if it was the Azomite or because she's a Sensi Seedling =)
My friend told me I should let her be with no topping and switch to flower right away, what do you think? I got only 1,6m of vertical space and 168w, is it ok for such a thing with no topping?
At least for now, I've decided not to top and do a minor LST for 2 weeks, going to flower around May 7th... any advice? I just don't want to lose this top cola but I also want to spread her out and let the other secondary branches thrive!
Oh, and should I take those big hand-sized fan leafs? when?

Hey broooos, the girl is up and running, will update two weeks in a row, sorry, but had the pics taken in time.
Did some LST and topped 4 branches including the main cola (took a few clones with aloe and coconut), so she is ready to get more bushy. Had to say goodbye to a few fan leaves that were blocking the light. I dont like defoliating and I did it just because I waited too much before LST, but she is strong and vigorous, let's see if she can handle it all.
Oh, also up with the Bio Grow dosage to 0.75ml/l, shes doing fine and it's the first plant I grow that isn't overfed. The difference is noticeable on the color of the leaves, no curling and the flow of growth is amazing, as you can see on her 25th day from sprouting her sensi seed shell.

She is doing fine, I think, no overfeeding yet. I’ve been going slow with BioGrow and it seems to be much more effective starting slow and up the dose after flowering.
I will flip her on May 7th.

Hey bro(s),
We went flowering on May 6th, oh god she is getting big, I got some of the ties loose and she just stretched.... wish I didn't because I would be getting more light in a shorter plant.
She's still losing some leafs from the bottom though, kind of an auto defoliation, so I did not touch her, mostly for her drought period (check photos). I am waiting for her to recover, so I'll give her a week. She's doing alright, I will be updating again soon.
Second week flowering, days 08 to 10.
She recovered well from the lack of drinks from last week but was getting too much dense and loosing a few yellow leaves from bellow, they just fall when I touch them. I also took about 10 leaves that where blocking more light then receiving, plus I shorten the ties and she's shorter now, tops spread and light is getting through too the ground,
I exposed lots of smaller buds that weren't getting any light also.
At the end I gave her 2l pure water plus 2l feed as described in the nutrients section. Hope she takes it well because I think her leaves were getting too much green, but still no nutrient burn, hope I can get through without it.
She's just lovely I'd have to say.

This week has been great, it's been around 7 days since I put the net on and she is getting acquainted.
You can notice a white spectrum light on the lower left corner too, I've added a 50w 4000k white light led I had from my first grow... too many tops I thought. At first I thought it wouldn't make such a big difference but as time goes by I noticed the plants liked it and were growing strong under it s light.
So, I'm mixing a lot of spectrums.. I have now one 450w Wattshine LED panel with 4 par spectrums, the 50w 4000k white light led and the two 3400k homemade COBS.
Note about the COB:
- I don't know if it's default for every COB chip, but the one I got have an Intel Cooler blowing wind directly over it... and with no shell box, so the wind goes straight down to the... PLANTS!
- I was feeling the temperature inside the grow a little hot then usual, but I had the thermometer at the fridge monitoring the seeds my friend got from Chile. So I got it back and for my surprise it was around 32 to 34C. Yeah, wow!
- And then I looked at the COB chips blowing wind down.. MY GOD! NO!
- Turned them off and... -3C in temperature... down to 30C in the grow while 29C outside... in the day
- But the plants love the COB.. :/
So now I've bought a Quantum Board, with 384 samsung leds, 1 year warranty and full support.. dual mode for 4000k veg and 3000k flower.. :) it will arrive in a few days (10 maybe).
But what do you think, how is she?
One thing I might add about nutrients:
I was giving 3L water per watering. 1L pure water + 2l feed water... and no runoff. So, do you get it? The feed I was giving was being diluted from 2l to 3l... I've noticed it and added the rest. You will see the difference next week I think.

Hi bro(s), been busy, sorry for the late update and bad pics.
The QB has arrived and it's fantastic, the penetration of light is amazing, everything has lighten up, wish I had not cut those little popcorn buds =)
A few burned tips begin to show in some upper cola leaves, nothing much but she had pure water for a few waterings and now she is back... what do you think, will I get a decent yield?
Some little cola broke this week, I put it to dry, let's check it later on the next update.
Putting the COB chips out just made the temps down from 34C at midday to 31C, just 2C above room temp, it was hitting 4-5C above with the older mentioned chips.
We are loving the QB, did I mention that?
The QB is made in Brazil and assembled by an italian company with 384 Samsung LEDs:

The QB has too switchs for Veg & Flower, 4000k for veg and 3000k for flower, when flowering using both 4000k/3000k =)

Been busy, sorry for not updating often, but here we go...
She's been complaining about the feed and got some leaf burn tips, just a little as a warning so the next watering will be only with pure amazonian well-water (from a well, like a wishing well) for a week maybe, and then will give her some KoolBloom, as a friend sent me some and advised me to try, and I will, so after that the end is near and we will be flushing with just pure water for a week with lots of runoff. I hope she will do fine. Any advice on the KB? Im thinking giving only the KB on a normal dose which is 1.25g for 4l (1gl)... just for one watering (4l).. or should I do like twice in a week and flush? Just KB and topmax Im thinking... or the KB alone. =)

The end is near, I think. I hope to get lots of buds and weight from this girls, she was nice from the start, a huge plant, beautiful genetics... a strong being, I thank the universe for her. It was my dream to grow a NL and it was much more then I expected. Im so happy.
Last feeding this week and the next weeks are going to be just pure amazonian water... :)
Added some trichome images from my small microscope, it is from a bottom bud that was shaded so I cut it. Even so I think it was good and growing, so I thought "why should I took the popcorn?" - next time I will not cut anything, not even a leaf. Let's see if it makes a difference.
So, do you think about the trichomes? The big buds up there are more ripe and developed, but judging from this small bottom bud... she's getting there? :)
How much weight do you think she can yield, dry?

So, check the trichomes from this bottom bud... the ones up there are more advanced.. how many days till harvest, what do you think? a sample from two weeks ago already got me stoned... it was a lower bud too =)

My dear friend Grower ... you’re worried about your tric’s but you’re forgetting, like those others gentlemen’s in their advice, an important factor. That plant is green lush, full of N-P-K, and from my experience it will need 2 weeks to trigger the senescence and certainly another week or two to fade entirely to get a nice, clean and smooth smoke . Know you start to understand it’s more important to flush correctly your plant than having the perfect ratio of tric’s clear-cloudy-milky-amber-whatever... Plus the fact that you’re not use to the genetic will make a mastering of harvest window ( finishing the fade in the same time than your tric’s ) even more difficult . I seriously hope after all this you will understand it makes no sense to harvest the perfect tric’s ratio when you’re taking the risk to get a very harsh smoke ... or not ? 😊
Hey guys, I was super busy those last few days so I went behind with my updating schedule!
We started flushing with pure water only, at about 20% runoff this week. Stilll lots of leaf tip burns... she was way over her head already.... a little bit less nutrients next time, but nothing really compromising I guess! =)

I was going to give her some KoolBloom (powder) but I thought she doesn't need it and I had no time, cause I had a deadline, maybe next time. =)
I loved to grow it, it was a dream coming in true. A strong and vigorous plant from the beginning to the end. No bugs, nothing could have stoped her. She was a monster, a kind and nice monster. I miss her. I will definitely grow this strain again, old school flavour, no hermies, nothing. =)
Thanks all the bro(s) that followed and commented on our journey, it was pretty good to talk and meet you. I learned a lot and I got addicted to this site and diaries.
Growing a plant, a being, is a very good experience, Im just in love with it.
I can't believe I got almost 100g of dry bud. And the quality is superb, better then anything I've tried.

I'm truly needing some advices to improve my substrate (spaghnum+perlite). Struggling with top strain, like 1 month size of 1-2 weeks. Using biobizz too. I have 6 nice seeds to pop but I'm afraid as the first 6 arent going nice. I was checking your plant and WOW amazing! So maybe if I do exactly as youre doing I'll have sucess! Starting off with a reputable seed bank is #1 and you will immediately notice the difference in the first 4 weeks, NL is a classic and has always been one of my favorite so you will not be disappointed but don't expect a Silver Have effect let's say. You are using the exact same medium as myself so if you have any questions I'd be glad to help you avoid the mistakes I made in my first grow. The high humidity is good for Veg but as you move into flowering, especially if you want buds full of trichomes you'll need to lower that to 40-50 max. NL is resistant to mold from my experience so that shouldn't become an issue assuming you have proper ventilation. Cheers and happy growing ;)

Good luck on the grow, I feel your pain when growing somewhere that is illegal, I use a spare room in the house and luckily I don't have people coming round all the time but when I do they usually stay downstairs so it's all good haha
When I was first having a go at growing, back before actually taking it seriously I started out with Hindu Kush from sensi seeds under a 20w led light that was terrible 😂 for some reason I thought it would be enough hahaha obviously I was a true beginner back them but after a experience and trial and error I now know what works and what doesn't 🤣
Sadly I couldn't get to harvest day with Hindu Kush for personal reasons but the overall quality of the genetics even under a terrible light was really good, there seeds are good quality but are definitely a little bit more on the expensive side! I havent shopped with them for a while but I may need to take another look at them 😎
Anyways good luck on the grow, have fun and keep it low key! Look forward to the updates. Also I've heard that NL can produce some incredible yields, exciting times ahead for you! 😊

@amazongrow, i see some clear trichomes , so it needs more time, the "problem" is that trichomes can rippen very quickly , sometimes overnight, so you just have to keep checking, that's it !

@Budofpray, yes, she stretched like hell!! light was around 40-50cm, the COB chips are killing me, they blow heat directly over the plants so I had to put things high and got 3 fans right now... but I'm waiting for a Quantum Board to arrive next week, looking forward to try it! have you?

@amazongrow, isso, inicio da semana 3 ela praticamente para de crescer e começa a florar mesmo.
Nesse momento é legal vc fazer uma poda de limpeza, tirando as folhas mais baixas q nao recebem luz e os ramos q nao chegaram no topo (se tiver).
Vou te mandar um video de um segmento que o cara faz uma poda dessa pra vc ter noção, vale muito a pena, senao vc vai ter uma infinidade de pipocas e top buds magros.

@amazongrow, yo buddy ! yeah in a sense it s true ! if u add trichoderma récent study tends to demonstrate he can compete with myco a bit, that's one of the Reason that It is clearly advisable to well prepared the soil by a correct mix (good dispersion in soil) and add char (for carbon).
but the same studies are done on controled conditions and are done in order to optimize certains cultur according to certain plants/parameters.
in the natural biotope, all this kinds of fungies naturally exist and compete until they are fixed... until they find a good place to work... and if we want to simplify the main abilitie of this 2 fungies family : myco are good to feed the plant (for P.K, and lot of micro nutrient) and its role of Defense is only to compete by the place against pathogens…
the main action of trichoderma is to protect against other fungies and pest...it s like a fighting shield. he had the ability to kill other pathogen fungies and even nématodes by breaking membran or chitin...he also produces molécules that goes on the branchs and leaves wich protect against bad fungies infections by the air….his second role is to feed the plan by N in exchange of carbon.
if i had the money and good equipment, It would have been fun to do a complete study dedicated to weed around this fungies 👍

@Budofpray, I've added some endo mycorrhizae, it seems to make a difference. I know about tricoderma but I dont think I got since Im using sterilized soil, but I heard it can be quite problematic sometimes, as it tends to overpower all other bacteria and fungi, is that true?
Yeah, its 21:24 and humidity is about 90% in the grow right now, lots of ventilation required. Never saw mold in there though, but I clean monthly with lots of alcohol and essential oils.
Im already lucky by having the pleasure of growing and top quality strain like this NL from Sensi seeds, totally different from all the others I've seen and tried.
