Brandenbluete I received the clone of MannyT's Selection from Austria. Since my first test run took significantly longer than stated, my schedule got a bit messed up, and the Blueberry Muffin had to settle for the first 3 weeks under the canopy of a Lemon Skunk Auto. In the meantime, it was transplanted into the 15L final pot from Rooties and topped five days later. The two LS are finally out in 3-7 days, and then the Blueberry Muffin can get the love and attention it deserves.

This is my second run and 4th plant over all, so please be kind :D I got a clone of blueberry muffin by Humboldt Seed Co select my MannyTs Selections out of Austria. Since I used whitelabel freebie seeds for my first run and ran in to a problem because they flowered 10-14 days longer than claimed. So in the first 2 weeks the clone had to be parked under the canopy of a different plant. Once she finally moved into her own tent she got stressed (perhaps a bit to much). With a topping and a lot of LST I managed to almost fill my 80*80cm tent and am excited to see her grow. Since I am still quite new I am not exactly sure what she is currently trying to tell me. I see some damage on a few leafs that I can't identify. I am observing them and sofar it is not spreading (fast). Tomorrow I will do another light defol+ lollipop and then send her into flower the day after. The stem rub is already hinting at the namesake fruit

Brandenbluete This past week? Let’s just say it was a classic case of "f** around and find out." 😅 1. Thrips Invasion: After 5+ years of keeping over 20 houseplants pest-free, guess what? My grow tents finally got hit. Yup—thrips. Cue the panic. But after some deep diving, I went with an eco-friendly insecticide followed by beneficial insects once the safe window passed. Blue and yellow sticky traps have been working overtime since, and I haven’t seen a single thrip in 5 days. Fingers crossed we dodged a bullet 🤞 Sent the plant into flower 2 days ago! 2. pH Problems: Noticed some weird discoloration on the leaves and decided to invest in a proper pH/EC meter (goodbye, €100+ 💸). Turns out my tap water + nutes were landing at a wild 7.2–7.6 pH 😬 So from now on, I’ll be adjusting down to a proper 5.8–6.4 range. Despite the hiccups, the plant is stretching nicely and early flower sites are popping up in the nodes 🌸 Here’s hoping for a smoother flowering phase from here on out! Tiny spoiler for the next run: Autopots arriving tomorrow 😍 Stay tuned!

Brandenbluete The Blueberry Muffin is in bloom and slowly starting to stretch. I feel like the deficiencies and/or pest damage have not spread any further. I also couldn’t detect any significant infestation on the blue and yellow sticky traps. Unfortunately, this week I misjudged the plant’s changed water requirements and ended up overwatering quite a bit at first. But by now, it has dried back sufficiently. I’m looking forward to the run in Autopots ;D I’d be happy to get some input.

Brandenbluete Phew, the Blueberry Muffin is increasingly worrying me. The positive points first: I can’t find any thrips or other pests on the sticky traps or the undersides of the leaves. The leaf discolorations from the last run also aren’t showing up anymore (probably thanks to pH measuring and pH Down). But there’s definitely something going on with the leaves. To me, it looks like feeding damage from pests. I’d appreciate any input! Otherwise, the flowering is going well so far, and in a few days the first defoliation at day 21 is coming up.

Brandenbluete The beneficials I ordered last week seem to be getting the spider mites under control. Other than that, the plant looks fine to me and she is starting to develop her own aroma. She handled defoliation well, and I am pleased with the amount of light coming through the canopy.

Brandenbluete Damn spider mites!! Attentive readers may have noticed that I skipped a week. Unfortunately, the last two weeks at work were super hectic, and on top of that, I was away for the entire weekend on a business trip. So it was full trust in the beneficial insects — eyes closed and fingers crossed. When I finally had time today to properly check the tent, it was immediately clear that the trust didn’t pay off. Not only are the leaves showing bite marks, but the buds are full of bugs too. Ugh… fuck... So now what? “Make it rain” in the tent and just spray everything with water? Freeze and wash it all? Do a bud wash after harvest? Or just burn the whole tent with the plant inside? I honestly have no idea how to move forward from here and would really appreciate any tips!

Happy Harvest Day!

_-------- After going back and forth with myself for a few days, the scissors finally came out today — day 40 of flower — and the Blueberry Muffin was harvested. I looked through the pictures again and, honestly, with all the spider mites and webs, I just couldn’t bring myself to smoke those buds. Really a shame, since the smell was absolutely amazing. I also reached out to the climate controller’s manufacturer, and apparently this cut has a noticeably higher CalMag demand, which can quickly lead to purple stems. No idea if that was the issue here, but I’ll keep it in mind for next time. In the end, it came out to around 600g of wet flower mass. We’ll see when this strain crosses my path again — either in the tent or maybe in the ice bath.

Uff, that's really too bad... Personally, I would chop them off and throw them away completely. Properly disinfect the tent with cleaning alcohol and wait 3 weeks. Before the next grow, disinfect again and then start from seeds. Blueberry Muffin is an awesome strain and very stable even as seeds. The mites most likely came for free with the cutting... There are probably many experiences shared online.

Brandenbluete commented10mo ago
@JackOfAllTrades I also suspect the cutting, but I have to admit that I have quite a few houseplants. Some of them are real spider mite magnets. I'm currently leaning towards leaving them for a few more days and then freezing them for hash.

@GrowX420, Thanks 😘 the first "real" grow She's showing the first deficiencies/discolorations that I can't quite interpret yet. Let's see how she develops in the coming days. But so far, very satisfied :)

Too bad, but next time will be better 💪 What do you do against mites when you have them? I've seen yellow and blue boards, but unfortunately, they don't help.

@Pi_growing, Oh exciting, I currently have 10 chili plants on the balcony and almost 20 houseplants (mainly Alocasias, Philodendrons, and Monsters). The houseplants also go under the shower every 8-12 weeks and get neem oil. However, I've heard different opinions about neem oil on our favorite herb and I'm still a bit skeptical. But breeding predatory mites sounds super interesting. How do you do that?
Pi_growing
Pi_growing commented10mo ago
@Brandenbluete, Neem oil isn't fully systemic, so it's not a problem until week 2. 1 large plastic container with holes in the lid and seal it from the inside with 25 micro cloth and duct tape. Then put 2 small containers in, one with organic flower pollen and one with soil that you lightly spray. They need to be warm, around 20 degrees; I have a Spider Farmer heating mat, and they also enjoy a bit of light. Ventilate at least once a day, otherwise the soil will rot. I think I've covered everything, feel free to check out my Insta too ^^

It is a plant-eating mite that infests plants, especially in hot and dry climates, feeds on the leaves, and causes yellowing, drying out, and webbing.
Anonymus420
Anonymus420 commentedweek 146mo ago
Golden advice: Regularly spray water (preferably distilled) on the underside of the leaves. This simple gesture creates a hostile microclimate that drastically slows down their reproduction. The red spider hates humidity. It lives and thrives in dry heat.

Sorry for your loss, you were doing such a great job. It’s so hard to make a decision for our plants any grower will lose time thinking about what steps to take so I know the stress you have likely went through…

Sorry for your loss, you were doing such a great job. It’s so hard to make a decision for our plants any grower will lose time thinking about what steps to take so I know the stress you have likely went through… I personally would have drenched the plants with a sprayer outside in flower with a h2o2, neam oil & yucca/aloe solution. You could have repeated this 2-3 times providing increased air movement to dry the plants after the treatment. After leaving them ripen to harvest you could have then done a warm water bud wash. This would have removed 90% of the shit on your buds. After that you could do hash methods without much worry.

• Abamectin: One of the most effective against adult mites. • Exitiazox or Clofentezine: They mainly act on the eggs and larvae (ovicides). They are often used in combination with Abamectin for a total knockout.
the end.
