Looking ahead to my first outdoor grow. Being in Ontario the season is short, so, going to start these four Critical + 2.0 indoors then move them outside. Soaked them in tap water for 24 hours in the dark. Planted them in peat pucks in a dollar store seed doom. They sprouted up in three days. Planted them riggt away in 500 ml styrofoam cups with my home brew soil mix. The soul mix is two parts top soul, one part worm casings, half part coco, half part peat and half part perlite. I will veg for four to eight weeks, which is all dependent on the weather. The weather is funny in Canada, never consistent. I won't train at all and hope to grow trees. Probally wishful thinking as I Ontario is a short season. Thanks for looking, Cheers.

Week went well and plants look ok. The first couple of weeks I am always nervous. Have a bit of leaf curl, probably due to not ph'ng the water. Had this before and went away by it self, so I am hoping for the best. Started to add a low dose of nutrients and the plans are liking them. I think the whole nutrient thing is a bit of mad science, this will take awhile to figure out and look forward to learning it. I will pot up in another week to 3 gln containers and keep them in those hopefully untill planting outdoors. Really impressed and appreciative from all the help and advice I have received from other growers. Thanks for looking, Cheers

They are definitely past the gawky seedling stage and stocks are thicking up. Nodes keep growing and coming alone good. Potted up to 3 gln containers and plan on keeping them in these until they go outdoors. I am hoping to get them planted outside at six weeks. Did the repotting mid week, roots looked good and abundant. Seems to me that any time between 2 and three weeks is a good time and prior to being root bound. Increased the nutrients a bit, see good growth and they are responding well. No training on these plants, going to let them grow naturally. Thanks for looking in.

Plants grew great, at the eighth node now. Kinda funny not topping or applying LST, Haha. Only watering 300ml every other day. They seem to be responding well by showing good growth. Weather still sucks and had frost again this morning too. Was hoping not to pot up again before planting outside. If that is the biggest problem I'm doing great. Thanks for looking. Cheers

Been leaving the plants alone for the best part. Just trimed the bottom few leaves and leaves as they won't amount to anything. They keep growing and getting higher and bushier. Looking good. Not sure what tp expect as I topped amd mainlined before. Added a seaweed foiler spray two times a week, it was an impulse thing. We will see where that goes. Also added a bit of molasses, again seemed like a good idea. Watching the weather and Saturday is going to be outdoor planting day. Going to be happy to see them in the ground. It will be all up to mother nature after that as I won't get much time to get up there to look in on them. They will be a few hours away. I will dig 3 x 3 holes and mix a bit of composted sheep manure in with the soil. Then I will cross my fingers and hope for the best, haha. Thanks for looking

The weather is not too bad so midweek I planted them outside. I have to tell you I was a bit surprised to still see snow on the sides of the road on the drive in. Dug 3 x 3 pits put sheeps manure in the bottom and planted the plants. When I dug the holes the soul was not as nice as I thought, crap, I should have brought some topsoil. All up to mother nature now.

Another week went by and did not get out to see the plants, not good. The weather this week was much better, sunny and really warm temperatures. At home my backyard garden took off this week, hope my plants are doing the same. Rain has been regular, maybe a bit too regular for me. That should help with watering though. Thanks for looking.

Finally got up to see the plants. All in all they are doing good. They have had absolutely no care, watering or nutrition for the last five weeks. I can smell the plants when I get closer, I love the smell. Two are short and two have grown straight up with no real side branches. The leaves are light green and some yellow. I think outdoor plants need to be topped too. Mental note for next time. Topped off the the plants with some ammended top soil and fed them. Hopefully that will give them some nutrition for the weeks to come. Weather has been great and next week is going to be good too. Its been fairly warm with just the right anout of rain. Hopefully that keeps up. Thanks for looking.

Been warmer this week with day time highs 26 to 32 deg. Celcius. Next week is the same. Happy days. Noticed two plants do not get full sun all day long. They miss a couple hours in the morning. Funny and interesting thing is those two are doing the best. Watered them once during the week as there was no rain and I fertilized them last. Did not think I should fertilizer twice in a row and no water in between. I used lake water and did not PH the water or nutrient mix. I figure the soil will do that. Thinking back I probably should have as it is an easy step. I gave them another round of nutrients and this amounted to +16 litres of mix per plant. Wanted to give a good amount and figure it will go into the ground and be used later on. Had some good growth over the last six day. The two bigger ones grew another four inches to a total hight of 43" and 36". Was wondering, given there is another month or so of veg left, should I top the plant. I have to say it feels funny not topping the plant. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Hope to get out to see them next week and give another round of nutrients....and maybe top.....? Thanks for looking.

Well got ready to go see the pmants and packed everything up, beer...check, dubbies...check, bug spray....check, munchies.....check. set out and drove three hpurs beforw realizing I forgot the nutrients, the bluetooth speaker and something else. Can't remner what else I forgot, guess that's the problem, Hahaha. No big deal, life goes on. I was surprised to find this was a big week. Plants are coming around, showing good growth and side branches growingout. Happy days. The taller plants are now 53", 43", 35" and 26". All look good and no lighter nutrient deficient leaves. Gan leaves are gettting big and stalks are thick. Really impressed witj tje progress. The down side is I found a pollen sack on the biggest plant. Not impressed at all, not sure if this is heat stress as it has been in the high 30's with high humidity. To tell you, that in itself is surprising, it has been freakishly hot. That is far from normal. I will check for more next time up. It is calling for hot weather for the next bit. Great for me, seems like it is not so great for the plants. Being it has bewn really hot I gave them a good watering, five gallons to each plant. Should hold them over. A 50 50 chance I go next week, if not the week after for sure. Thanks for looking.

Day 100. First update of week 15 Veg. Plants are doing great, growing and filling out. Starting to smell great. One plant and it had to be the biggest, got a smack down from local wildlife. It was probably a deer, at least I hope so. I think if it was a bear it would have shredded the whole plant. Two weeks ago on my way in I did see a bear then. The last two weeks have been hot and humid, temps steady every day 30 to 32 degrees during the day and mid 20's at night. Some Some days were high as 38 degrees. Can't believe we are getting this in Northern Ontario. I have to say it's all good, I love the hot weather. The heat did not seem to bother the plants at all. Plants are now 36", 42", 54" and the beaten up one is 59" on a slant. Kinda like the leaning tower of weed. Haha. I took some advise and pinched all the tops of the plants. With another four weeks of veg left, should be good. I will update this this week again towards the end of the week. Day 103. Plants looking like they are filling out. I measured them and they grew a bit the last three days. A bit surprised seeing I topped them. Plants are 38", 44", 58" and the beaten up one is 61". The second hightest looks the best. Fed them another round of nutrients, figured that would be fine seeing it is soil and I won't be back for a couple of weeks. Cheers!

Grow Questions

The question is do I defoliate the outdoor plants? I figure outdoor should be the same as indoor and it should work. I also know the sun is extremely hot and maybe keeping the fan leaves is better. I have a plant starting budding and wonder if I should Any help is appreciated

I can speak from living in Ontario and some defoliation is usually necessary to avoid powdery mildew. It is really warm and humid here and things like PM and Bud Rot are a real thing for everyone growing in Ontario. I've been growing outdoor for a few years now and good air circulation is the best tool in avoiding this.

The weather has continued to be hot and now it is cooling at night. Lows have been 11 degrees. Plants were fine and getting bushy and a bit taller. The sizes are as follows; #4 the shortest is still the shortest at 49", next is #3 at 53" and the second tallest #2 is now the tallest and biggest at 69" and the biggest before #1 (which took the beatdown) is 67". All look good. #1 is starting to bud out and looks like it has been budding for over a week. Happy days! All smell strong and great. I can smell them from my car. Love it. The rest do not look like they are budding yet. I guess they may be shorty behind. Fed the one in bud bloom nutes and the others got veg nutes. I will be back in two weeks and may adjust at that time. The three plants all look nice and bushy with lots of branches. Hopefully good producers. The other will be limited. Hope weather holds up. Cheers.

As soon as I got out of my car I could smell the sweet smell of sensi. At first glance they look good, taller and bushier. Still some more growth, a bit taller and bushier maybe the streach. Buds are really building on the first plant and the other are just starting. They look three weeks behind the first one. The sizes are as follows; #4 is still the shortest at 53", next is #3 and tied with #1 now at 67" and #2 is still the tallest and biggest at 75.5". All look good. Happy days! Fed them and this tine added a new nutrient. I actually have added this to all my grows, this is Silicate. I read some good articles on this and it intrigued me. Would love to know everyone's thoughts on this. Weather is changing, a bit of rain and cooling off. Hopefully not too much rain. Thanks for looking and happy growing. Cheer!

I went up to check on the plants and give them some love and forgot to take pictures. I guess I was a little offsides. Plants are doing great, one is close to harvest and the others are a good month behind. The smell is strong. Theu did not get any taller, the streach was over. Looking at the weather, there was a frost warning last night. They are fairly close to the lake, hope they made out ok. I will go up this weekend to see. Cheers

Plants look like they are doing great and not bothered by the colder weather yet. This last week was cooler and a couple of rain days. One plant is close to harvest, maybe a week or two left. The buds are really stacking up and looking frosty with cloudy trics. The others look like a month behind. Did a defoliation and still looked like I did nothing. I just wanted to get air through so they dry, just worried about mold. Fed the three plants with nutes and stopped the silicate. The third plan I did not give it nutes or water as it rained last night. The ground it wet ant it looks fine. This plant has nice rich green leaves and great buds. Next week is calling for great weather sunny and 25 degrees. Hope it holds out until all the plants are harvested. Cheers.

Weather was great this week, warm and sunny. One plant was ready and got the chop and is hanging now. The other three are probally a month behind. Kinda funny they are finishing so far apart. The only difference l can see is a bit of shade. Would never have thought. That partridge was back, must be my Cannabis guard bird haha. I uploaded a video of it, kinda funny. The weather is turning, next week is cooler and rain almost every day. I hope the last three make it to the end. Cheers

Did not get up to see the plants this week, been watching the weather though. The weather was fine, next week looks a bit cooler and three day of rain, not great. First plant was hung a week and trimmed the first oz and a half. Looks like I may get five or six off this plant. The trimmed buds look fine. They were squished bringing them back. In my wisdom I bagged it inside five bags to avoid the smell and complaints driving back and that happened. Well I did not get any complaints though. Trimming is a bit of a chore now, oh well. Won't do that again. Buds look good and all is well. I may try to get up next week to see them. Cheers.

Planning my outdoor grow, have my location picked. Given life and responsibly's sometimes get in the way, watering is a big concern. Has anyone used water crystals to suplement frequent watering? If you could let me know how it worked for you that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
TheBudWhisperer
TheBudWhisperercommented6 years ago
@BarrieGrower, nice dude and lookn good. IMHO - anything you can do in the way of additional watering and nutes when it comes to outdoor, in ground is just a bonus. If u can’t due to time or travel however, they should be just fine when left alone to Mother Nature - that’s what she always intended anyway😉👍😎
TheBudWhisperer
TheBudWhisperercommentedweek 26 years ago
And a helpful tip for ya - starting indoors is great where we’re at because you want the girls strong before they go in the ground in late May (eliminates frost concerns for those freak temp. Swings). Only thing to be mindful of when starting indoors is the light cycle - right now we’re getting like 14 hours of sunlight in Ontario so your grow light timer should try to mimick that as best as possible. Otherwise, it is possible that the girls start flowering prematurely after you move em outside.👍 not a major issue but if you want to grow some monster trees with extra veg. Time then this is a definite concern. I take my outdoors through the whole season and still really haven’t had an issue with the early/mid fall come the last potential harvest time before the snow flies. These already have a great start dude, very nice👍👌

you're making this exciting man, you saw a bear on your way in? could be a bear that did that, those killing machines were probably just trying to help you top/LST ... but their fingers are too thick lol
BarrieGrower
BarrieGrowercommented6 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow, this is Northern Ontario, lots of wildlife. Last year it was a big bull moose and close. Most of the time they never bother and go away. Bears you don't trust. During hunting season they are never around, when you want to find them you can't. Haha. I've seen deer here before and most of the time you see sign they are arround. Tracks and sign of feeding. When they feed they naturally top bushes, specificallythe branches. The branches end up being bushier. Just like we do to our plants, same results.
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommentedweek 126 years ago
some phenos just do that outdoors i think? or maybe they lost an early leaf that didnt turn into a branch? thing is sometimes what you see outside is what's happening inside the soil, so it could be those plants in the heat are digging deeper to find water... it's a grow mystery ! 🚀
BarrieGrower
BarrieGrowercommented6 years ago
@TheBudWhisperer, I'm sure that was a factor, I dis not expect the quality of the soil to be so poor.
TheBudWhisperer
TheBudWhisperercommented6 years ago
@BarrieGrower, another thought there - you also said the soil was real tough and not ideal when you planted em right? Root migration/impediment might be an issue too. If the roots can’t spread neither can the plants branches possibly??? Idk. It’s a thought
BarrieGrower
BarrieGrowercommented6 years ago
@Njanne, yes, I see yours are older. I don't think sunlight was the issue, more so the zone 4 early season weather has not cooperated. Thanks

Yah if you top now it will be fine. You will get more yield and more developed canopy on the plants. You have about 15 more days of growung before they hit flower. Some plants will hit flowering earlier depending on strain but wont hurt to top themgo 2 ro 3 nodes down from the top on those

Looks like this year we will have a cold and rainy season unfortunately but it will be really interesting to see how they perform under these conditions until the very end. I will truly recommend you to top up the soil with some form of fertilizer to give it strength so It continue growing big and strong and because it's going to slowly leach into the ground you don't need to worry about over fertilizing blood meal , bone meal ,ocean mix are perfect for what you are doing end good luck with your grow

Hi , I do no big defoilation on my outdoors, but trying to give them structure by topping, fimming etc. And for me most important , i give them a "cage" to be protectet from heavy winds and storms. its great too, to give them a transparent Roof for the Raining itime in Autum( northern europe) Here its very cold and humid in the middle of september, and if the raining weeks start there is a high risk of moldering buds I dont know your conditions , and hope you dont need cages and roofs to protect them If you want take a peep into my actual outdoors like Shaman, she got a cage and will get a roof to

I speak from experience my man! Works wonders for me. And if you really want to increase your yields. Drive a post in the ground about a foot away from your plants. You have to drive a post for each top, and then stretch it out and tie the tops to the posts. Thank me later! It'll increase your yields and save you hella time trimming it because all you'll have is tops!

@BigNate89, you say that with confidence. When I go this weekend to see them, if they look like they are doing good I will do that. Thanks! 👍

@TheBudWhisperer, good to know. Was not really sure how much time is left for veg. I am here for a week so will give them one more shot of nutrients before I leave. Definitely will be out to show them some love more often.

@BarrieGrower, oh for sure bud. Still at least another month+ of veg. Before transition so lots of time still to branch and spread👍. Plants will do what they do👌😎

@TheBudWhisperer, interesting sorry to hear you are experiencing the same issue. I figure it had to be all the cold weather that caused it for my plants. I guess it is still early, so who knows we will see how it turns out. I am surprised how nice and thick the stalk is. To me that is a positive.

@BarrieGrower, The weather for june wasn't the normal temperatures. They were more like fall time. Glad to see the gals are growing well and bounced back.
