Due to the very green leaves, I think the roots are not in a hurry to grow because the cutting is still well-saturated. I hope the ladies are ready next week and can be repotted. GanjaGecko WEEK 4 // D22 - D28 The OceanRosa had a tough time. It only showed visible roots in the eazy plug a day later and didn’t have as many or as long roots as the OceanTruffle Cut. Either the Rosa stored too many nutrients beforehand, so it wasn’t in a hurry to form roots, or it’s just a strain that’s a bit harder to clone. It could also just be this pheno. We’ll see how it goes after 2-3 grows with the OceanRosa. It took quite a while for it to recover and root in the pot where it was temporarily placed. Still, I’m glad I’ll get to enjoy bringing this pheno to the finish line and tasting it in the end. Even if most of the tent will be filled by the Truffle. The slightly lighter leaves of the OceanRosa give hope that it’s now a bit more motivated in root development to get nutrients faster. To promote quicker root development from the start of taking the cuts in the future, I ordered Clonex, which arrived this week. This will be used for the next cuts. At the same time, I’ll also try out the new RootingGel from Plagron and do a little comparison. The gel that allows the cuts to root faster will logically become a staple in the nutrient arsenal. As long as it leads to quicker root development in the future, otherwise it will get critical for the cuts at some point. On Day 26, they were repotted. By the end of the week, Rosa also looks like a presentable plant. The Truffle is an absolute self-starter and really just needs watering and training. An absolute growth monster! If it keeps producing fat buds as diligently as it has been, it was a lucky find to be the first Pollen Thunder 🍀. The formation of the upcoming shoots from the third and fourth node pairs on the OceanRosa looks extremely strange. It's also generally a bit more reserved. The seed mother had already shown some issues, with a few light leaf tips here and there. So, it's not the most stable either. In the coming week, OceanRosa will be topped on day 36 or 37, and then we'll see how the oddly looking new shoots develop. For one, the Rosa took a bit more time during root development in the cutting phase, and the Rosa cutting has the same light leaf tips as the seed mom. So definitely not the least stressful pheno. The oddly grown shoots are also gradually normalizing. However, the Truffle can't wait much longer to flower until the Rosa has turned into a bush. The Truffle is already too big for that. Midweek, flowering will slowly be initiated by reducing the light by 2 hours each day. So, the tent will mostly be filled by the OceanTruffle. In the end, it doesn't matter as long as at least one lady feels committed to filling the tent. The Rosa will yield a bit less, while the Truffle will yield a bit more. GanjaGecko WEEK 7 // D43 - D49 The Truffle is an absolute growth miracle. The main stems were trained here and there with bud clips to create an even canopy. The OceanTruffle is just a lot of fun. The OceanRosa is basically just growing along. As long as at least a few decent buds come out in the end and you get to enjoy the taste of the terps, all the hassle was worth it. The oddly grown nodes have recovered and have funny mutations. It somehow looks like the node didn't quite know if it wanted to be a leaf or a stem and has some stunted leaf tips on the stem. The OceanTruffle looked so incredibly good in the middle of the week that I decided to reduce the light cycle by 2 hours each day for the last three days of this week. The hoped-for moderate stretch might still allow the side branches of the Rosa to grow a bit while the OceanTruffle is being diligently trained. The OceanRosa was radically raised and trained through the scrog net, with the main stem bent 90° with a bud clip. This created a somewhat presentable canopy in just a few minutes. At the end of the week, the flowering fertilizer was added with the last layer of substrate in the pot. This gives the ladies in the middle 900ppfd and in the corners still a bit over 800ppfd. The second layer of the Scrog net was also installed. However, the second layer is more for organizing the shoots than for LST. A little lollipopping and defoliation were also done for both ladies. This way, the ladies can focus on the strong shoots, and the light can reach everywhere well. This week, something happened that every grower fears. There was a power outage. However, it was planned, so one could think about how to bridge this time of a maximum of 4 hours. The solution I decided on was to organize a camping battery and set up a SanlightQ1Wdim that was waiting for its use in the basement. For this, all tent doors were opened so that the Q1Wdim, with its gentle 50W output, could shine into the open tents, ensuring that at least the day/night rhythm wouldn’t be disrupted. After that, everything that had been perfectly coordinated over time had to be readjusted. This led to some fine adjustments with the timers from the middle to the end of the week, and then everything ran as it should. Additionally, the sleep and wake light was turned on. A Far Red light strip in the 730-745nm range - the Spider Farmer SUPP-IR 16. This turns on 13 minutes before the Sanlight comes on and goes off 2 minutes after the main lighting starts, simulating sunrise. Then the Far Red turns back on as a little sleep aid for 15 minutes before the Sanlight goes off and continues for 15 minutes after the Sanlight goes off, simulating sunset. The lighting with Far Red LEDs accelerates the metabolic transition after the light goes out. This allows the ladies to recover better at night and start the new day refreshed. Plants have an absorption spectrum that sees Far Red light as an indicator of the onset of darkness. We can take advantage of this fact with artificial lighting. The absorption of Far Red light waves is managed by the so-called phytochromes. These are a type of photoreceptor proteins that influence a variety of plant growth processes. Phytochromes control processes such as germination, flowering, and photoperiodism, which is the regulation of the day-night rhythm. Essentially, there are two types or conformations of phytochromes in plants: The Pr-form (r=red) has its absorption maximum at around 660 nm, and the Pfr-form (fr=far red) at about 730 nm. What do phytochromes have to do with plant lights? Quite simply: By using the Far Red spectrum, relevant processes like photoperiodism can be targeted to optimize nighttime recovery and thus photosynthesis, leading to better yield results. If the low-energy Far Red radiation stays on in the evening for about 10 to 15 minutes longer than the regular light, it acts as a "sleep initiator." By the end of the week, the stretch has noticeably decreased and the desired even canopy has formed, and it couldn't be better. I'm especially excited about the OceanRosa. It has a mostly super even canopy, and at the edges where the ppfd value of the LED drops a bit, the shoots have grown a bit taller and are getting about the same ppfd value as the buds in the middle. A small, very intelligent plant 😄 By the middle of the week, a small bud in the lower area that was overlooked during lollipopping was removed. When crushed, a decent whiff of wasabi hit the nose. Really crazy. It's those spicy terps that remind you incredibly of wasabi. Otherwise, when opening the tent, you get the impression that some light candy terps are coming your way. A few leaves and two small shoots were also removed from the OceanRosa. The canopy of the OceanRosa is almost a bit too uniform. But there are worse things 😄 When removing the leaves and the two shoots from the OceanRosa, a strong wasabi smell hit the nose while rubbing the trichomes, accompanied by a bit of gas/lemon terps. I'm very curious to see how the terps will develop further. The terps of the OceanTruffle are currently leaning towards sour/gassy and slightly nutty. Just a little whispering here, next door in the tent, the two OceanTruffle clones are a week ahead. So we can get a pretty good idea of how this OceanTruffle clone will develop here 😄 This weekend, the temperatures were already a little taste of summer. If you take a sugar leaf from the OceanRosa and crush it, you actually get quite distinct spicy terps reminiscent of wasabi/ginger. I hope the lemon/candy terps come through and dominate in the end. The OceanTruffle next door in the tent, which is a week ahead, is a dream. Both in color and smell, it's wonderful. The leaves of the OceanTruffle are starting to fade strongly into violet, which is no surprise since two clones have a bit of a head start. The OceanRosa is also showing off a few pretty violet/pink accents here and there. The OceanRosa is taking a bit more time in flower development than the OceanTruffle; maybe it will pick up the pace towards the end. When you break apart the OceanRosa, you get a little Sugarleave Lemon/Candy, and then Wasabi takes the main role. The terps are very, very interesting. GanjaGecko WEEK 15/8F // D99/50F - D105/56F Both ladies are developing splendidly. With the OceanTruffle, we know what to expect thanks to the two clone sisters that were just harvested. So, a bit more about the OceanRosa. The OceanRosa gives off a sweeter scent in the tent, leaning more towards the candy direction. However, as soon as you take a small lower sugar leaf and crush it, you can still clearly detect spicy/wasabi terps. Here and there, I could have removed maybe 3-4 more shoots during lollipopping; then the individual buds might be a bit larger. For the 12L pot, there are a few too many shoots. It won't change much in terms of yield. With a few less and slightly larger buds, trimming would take less time. But there are worse things. I think in no more than 2 weeks, these two ladies will also be hung up to dry. GanjaGecko WEEK 16/9F // D106/57F - D112/63F The two ladies have gotten some nice color this week. The OceanTruffle is dipped in a wonderful dark purple, just like her two recently harvested sisters. (Not a big surprise with the same mother plant) 😄 The leaves of the OceanRosa are leaning more towards black and have pink/purple tips here and there, while the calyxes themselves mostly come in a strong green. However, a few purple/pink tips are also showing up on the calyxes here and there. The terps of the OceanRosa are heavily leaning towards candy/lemon, accompanied by equally present wasabi/gas terps. I'm curious to see how the smoking experience will be. With the OceanTruffle, we know from the already harvested clones that the sour/gassy forest fruit with citrus and pine terps is waiting for us. The OceanTruffle is already at a point where one could think about harvesting, as it has the same ripeness level as its already harvested clone sisters. Since the OceanRosa still needs a few more days, the OceanTruffle will be left standing a bit longer, and both will be harvested at the same time. GanjaGecko WEEK 17/10F // D113/64F - D119/70F It was a pretty relaxed week. To preserve the terpenes a bit, the LED was dimmed from 150W to 120W for the last few days. The Truffle was harvested in the middle of the week on day 115/66F. It was hung up in 1-4 branches just like its clone sisters. Alongside the mostly milky trichomes, we have about 10% amber content and 5% clear trichomes. The branches of the Rosa were evenly distributed for the last days when it had the tent all to itself. Order must be maintained 😄 For the OceanRosa, it had its last drink on day 116/67F. It was hung up today on day 119/70F. I didn't want to leave it standing any longer. At the bottom of the tent, the under-canopy PC fans were directed towards the ground, which ensures that the air in the tent doesn't stagnate but also that no direct wind hits the plants that are drying. The idea behind this is that the buds dry slowly. However, if you live in an attic, summer shows up, and you don't have air conditioning, the drying happens faster than you'd like. Therefore, the buds were already ready to be prettied up and put into jars with Boveda packs after just 7 days.
