So here we go with this experiment of a new strain from barneys farm. I am stoked to be back into their genetics again and will be running a couple more in coco alongside (Gorilla Zkittelz , Blue gelato 41 , Cookie Kush , Orange sherbet). I have been desperate to get going on another run of their genetics and here we have it. The plan is to top , lst them to a quad manifold , grow them outward and bushy before a major defol after the stretch has done. I have chosen coco as it is now getting hotter here in the UK so didnt want to battle the heat in the dwcr throughout the grow. I love coco for its forgiveness and ability to restart from flushed if needed. I am also trying out some of the SUMO nutrients line up for flowering and finish after reading great reviews. Still going with Golden Tree and gh trio with occasional superthrive tickles too. I am expecting great things from this Genetic hybrid and know it wont let me down ( Wish i could get an L.E.D sponsor for lights but keep hitting brick walls.lol) .I have 2x enhanced 600w hps for the flowering period specifically and and will be using 1 600w MH for the initial vegging period ( may go to second 600 of they demand it.
As i am doing multiple barneys strains but never get to enter diary of month ect... i am journaling each strain individually. This initial post is for ALL the girls that i germinated from the first picture( 100% success within 3 days of planting dry into sponges) I am using this update to begin them all off as the start up has been the same for all the little ones.
I dropped the seeds in, impatient me as i am, wanted to grow them since they arrived and never considered how close to our family vacation for 10 days i was!. I had to make emergency coco survival pods that can wick water !!!!. problem solved and they seem to have given me a break. So from here on in they will get their own updates. climb aboard for the ride , any comments greatly recieved and appreciated. Welcome
Day 15 veg update : A very enjoyable busy week with the Phantom. A bit of moving and grooving to get her settled for the long haul to harvest now. She is in her 27ltr fabric pot and has settled in well so far. hopefully with no more movement planned for them, her roots can get busy building the rootballs. I am hoping for root tips hitting the edges over the next week or so. I am Quadlining her to keep her low due to my space issues. i can go to about 1.5m before i run out of space so need stocky wide ladies to max benefits.
Her feeds have been at 1040ppm and she has take n them.with no issues so far. i will water every 4 days to keep the mix fresh in the coco for them.
Seeing how well the Phantom grows from other journals , i do expect her to throw a lot of sites out when the lst starts. She is close to having her 1st topping now so i can build the 4-way and will then see how she gains size before i top again or not. I would like to give her 2 weeks more to set herself up for flowering. I love the barneys genetics, period. The strains i am running now should be beauties too but the OG here has my eye the most as the Freebie from recent Barneys purchase of Gorilla Zkittelz ect..
I know this will be an interesting journey ( as every grow ends up with the dramas and trials we face. lol)
She is looking very healthy and up for it now so bring on the fun and lets grow premium Ganja.
Day 16 Veg: An interesting week for the phantom this week. After all the willing her to her 5th node , she made it and i lopped it off !!!. All part of the quad training mind you.
She has recovered from the stripping of nodes 1 and 2 well too. I am now waiting for the remaining 2 nodes to start heading ( with help) towards the pots edge while pushing new tips along their branches. These tips will then become more merristems to be huge buds. Once all of the growth has reached outward and found a vertical , well lit spot they can grow into , i will let them go vertical and use the flip to create the longer colas hopefully.
To get the best result using this method. The growth is pinned lateral with approx 20° upward angle. This instructs the plant that the growth is still a merristem and needs full force energy and nutrition . This avoids over-stressing her and also avoids a longer recovery to start growing again than if held flat. The four main stems will supply nutrition from the rootball equally up them for the newer growing tips to catch up with the angled end ones
I plan of doing a couple of major defoliations along the way to keep the stem and grow tips in light. By using the 4way mainline to break the apical growth she will be a wider squat version of the intended genetics with only main stems and no "popcorn/larfy" buds to waste energy on.
Fingers crossed but she is performing brilliantly.
Update Day 23 Veg: This beast has been getting her groove on this week. She has responded well to the lst bending and tying down. She is the star of the show so far among her peers and i expect that to remain the case.
She has a lot of bud sites visible already and with another week at least to get more of them going , i am sure she will produce well. Their have been a few dramas with a failed MH bulb earlier which meant i have had to use the HPS flowering enhanced bulb sooner. I also broke the other new bulb tying to get it in place. an expensive bulb change it seems now. I do have one to replace the MH when i flip but it is not a new one. I am ordering some new L.e.d this week ( catching up with the modern world.lol) so will hopefully be saving on th running costs and getting the heat down more.
The Pog hasn't skipped a beat with any of the issues this week threw up. This girl will be a beauty
Day 30 veg update: Here we are at day 30 and the pog is the star of the show in the grow. She is growing so quickly now and is close to being flipped. ( fri coming) . Her response to Lst and quadlining has been excellent so far. she pushes her stakes out easily and needs re tying back down. Opening her up with a little defoliation so she can exploit the light available helps her too. She has lots of bud sites to flower with and i will keep them in light as best i can until they give me a great yield. Love the structure of this girl
Feeding has been good with no issues showing up so far. Will be hopefully flipping then trying the shogun range of flowering nutes
TRANSITION DAY 1( Day 35 Veg)
I have switch the tent to flower now so will be using veg weeks to count as a transition to flower period so i can count "actual flower start" as week 1.
The Pog is my new best girl. Her growth and response to quadding has been excellent. she has spread herself nicely horizontal without too much fighting. Like an ex of mine , she seems to like being tied down !! .She bends in all the right places to allow all her potential mains to start going upwards . She is nice and thick stemmed to support some good weight above , again like my poor exes.lol. I expect her to be the best yielder with her lineage and i am sure she wont let me down. She is loving the new lights and her stripping and savage defol bothered her none. She has bounced back with growth overnight and returning to the lights too. Now the waiting for her pistils to pop starts and i am readying the Shogun Nute range for the mega bottle sized buds she will be giving me !.
Any comments, observations, general thoughts more than welcome.
TRANSITION DAY 10: This lady is my latest favourite. She is progressing amazingly under the new lights and has now started to flower properly. she has been putting her first bract pistils out since day 5 of flip. This is the fastest i have seen this occur with my grows. She has fought back from the stripping ,prior to flip, and her regrowth is virile and very strong looking. I think she will be in my top 10 of strains to grow. Her response to the quadline style has been excellent and i dont think it has slowed her down at all. She is stretching well and will hopefully be setting herself up for long thick colas. I need to strip out all the lower small bits of growth and maybe a few hopeful mains. her size has limited her possibilities with the space i have i think. I am going to be spacing my girls out a little more and trusting the lights will still give me adequate coverage to the canopies edge. We will see. lol All in all i am enjoying working with this strain so far and imagine a future grow to include a few more. Thanks for looking in ( if you are please kick that tumbleweed out of the way , room looks deserted with those knocking round !!)
Have a green day
Flower Day 2: Pog is a star. She is loving the quad style and seems to be putting mains into every space she can. They are forming low down each stem so i am hoping i can keep them developing from below better to fill each stem. She is a good 24 inches now and hopefully finished the stretch at that. I am due at day 7 to give her a defol and clear out the small undeveloped , shadowed budlets. She isnt putting out any smell as such but is starting to try. She is my secret favourite so far but dont tell her cousins !!!
Have a great growing week
Flowering day 8: This lady is a favourite for me in this grow and she hasnt fsiled to keep my attention at all. she is so productive on sites and like her fellow plants , needed to get somenof the small airy and pointless growth out. She has a good thickness to her mains and should yield well hopefully. !
Update Day 14 Flowering: Pog is ambling along stacking her neat little buds up ready for long colas i hope.
Temps here have been crazy hot for the UK. 34°c at points which is slowing them a little but with lots of airflow incoming , the rh is not too bad at 70% and i am watching for mould like a sheepdog for wolves.lol
Another happy Barneys Farm Girl
Day 27 Flowering:. I am in love with Pog. she always looks so edible.lpl. her buds are such a nice fluffy inviting example of this respected strain from Barneys Farm. So so fruity smelling when rubbed and makes me hungry without even smoking.lpl
With less than halfway passed , she will be a good yielder by the looks of her now. roll on sweet harvest time.
Day 35 flowering: besides the obvious calmag need this little lady is waking up now. Her buds are looking very nice. Feels solid with a little squeeze and boy is she fruity smelling now. With still so long to go , she should give a very nice tield if i can sort the cal mag issue quickly.
Actual flowering 37 days: This lady has had a bit of a battle waiting for me to get her some calmag this week. She showed deficiency early last week but I thought it was light burn initially. Her size has suffered slightly i feel now and explains why she hasnt been as vigorous as she once was. She has 2-3 weeks left now till harvest so i hope she can budswell her way into a great yield. She smells sweet and is tacky to touch too. fingers crossed i can keep her happy
Day 43 flowering today. She is still looking rough from the calmag issue but is doing ok in general. Her buds are still forming nicely but lack of anything takes its toll . she smells sweet/skunky at the moment but her nugs are solid now. so sad i fucked up on her with the cal mag miss. She looks close to being done now so will be watching her trichs. come on girl bulk up.
Day 50 flowering. Despite my punishment with the calmag she is doing well considering. I dont doubt she could have been a hell of a lot bigger and would have been a big yield. She is covered in buds that her branches cant keep up now. she looks a little of a tangle with the way I have to support her now and any handling of her leaves my fingets tacky as hell. I did find a little budrot to deal with too which is a concern for the harvesting time now. Hard to keep the rh down with the uk weather at present and a dehumidifier is on my list now.
All in all another week for her will give me some lovely sweet smoke when she is done. Trichs are still showing quite a few clear so she is good to go on
Update day 56 flowering.
She is done!!!!!!!. I removed her for her dark period 2 days ago and she is now trimmed and drying slowly. I think the calmag starvation has hurt her yield and general bud sizes but she ended beautiful looking with a sweet fruity smell. She has been drying for a day so far and i cannot wait to harvest her for her finish. I dont think the yield will be too good for her but i expect her smoke to be top notch. lets see in a few days time. i am slowly drying her to reduce the time needed for a cure.
What to satmy about this amazing strain. I screwed her up in early flower by running out of calmag and couldnt rectify for nearly 3 weeks. This was during early mid flower. She was covered in budsites but could not develop them due to this issue. When i did resolve it with a new bottle finally , i think the lack of it had taken its toll. She fought back brilliantly and has produced some beautiful solid nugs.
She was great to train in Veg and didnt skip a beat during topping and bending. Knowing the issues within thisbgrow space with heat , rh ect... has given me a great insight into whats needed to improve things.
All in all , she was a beauty to work with. definitely recommend this strain.
