Northern_Ent Apr 23: Germinating in Kannabia petri dish with thermometer and towels. It is a nice simple germination system.
I’ve always found just soaking seeds in water on a heating mat works great, but this germinator looks nice and easy too.
Amnesia Haze GO Fast should be a good grow. Starting two seeds to pick the better one.
Apr 27: transplanted sprouted seeds into starter soil in peat pots. I’ve never been a fan of germinating seeds using paper towels because I usually forget to keep them moist but not saturated. Also sprouting weed seeds in a glass of water is so easy and foolproof.
The Sproutly germination kit from Kannabia is a smartly designed simple device. A petri dish with an accurate thermometer so you can keep it at 22-24 C. The biggest tip for starting seeds, including things like peppers and tomatoes, is to get a heat mat - totally worth it.
The last video shows how I do seed priming with ethylene gas given off from a couple of apples. There was a scientific paper i saw in a news story somewhere that explains it. The gas helps promote or regulate the gene expression in the growing seedlings, but a key trick is that it should only be applied to the sprouted seeds just before they are exposed to light.
Been doing seed priming the last two years, and yes it works.

Northern_Ent May 2 Day 1: seedling is now above the soil and being exposed to light.
May 6 Day 5: doing alright but a bit behind the others at this early stage. Added soil to support leggy seedlings. So far so good.

Northern_Ent May 10 Day 9: not a great start. I left them too long in the Sproutly without enough moisture so the seedlings were a bit stressed. I’m used to an extra day or two using water in a glass to germinate so my bad. Started another seed in water as replacement if needed.
Prepped soil bags using recycled soil with new peat and compost. Placed a ring of spruce cones at bottom to ensure air reaches the roots easily. Had done a smaller amount of spruce cones last year but based on last year’s roots, I’m using more this year.
May 15 Day 14: one will be culled but the other seedling looks okay. My backups are germinating now so we’ll see how they look and pick the best.

Northern_Ent May 16 Day 15: looking good just waiting for the weather to improve.
May 21 Day 20: the first plant is growing but slowly. The backup seedlings are over a week behind but almost as big due to a smoother start. TBD but I’ll likely pick one of the backups.

Northern_Ent May 23 Day 22: transplant day. The two backup seedlings are stronger than the first seeds I started. The backups were planted into 7 gallon grow bag after I took the bottom off the peat pot and tore open the sides. The backups are about two weeks younger than my other plants but I’ll leave the week numbering the same.
watered in using 28 C water with soluble seaweed extract at half strength.
May 24: picked a seedling. Culled the one with the more purple stem indicating P deficiency and therefore that it might not handle colder weather.
May 29: this from a backup seed and is actually about 2.5 weeks and not 4. Doing fine and next week she’ll likely grow quickly.

Northern_Ent May 30 Day 29: looking good. Heavy rain last night caused a bit of leaf damage.
Actually Day 20 for this backup seed.
May 31: rain day. Moved plants close to house so they don’t get too much rain.
June 1 another rain day and quite cool with highs about 10 C. Reminder that it’s still spring and summer is another three weeks away. She’s behind my other plants but she’s got lots of veg time before I will force flower it in mid-July.
June 4: this backup seed is younger than my other plants and is now starting to show some vegetative growth. She’ll likely end up a bit smaller just due to the later start.

Northern_Ent June 6 Day 36: this backup seedling is about 27 days old not 36.
This one is showing an indica type leaf which surprises me a bit.
June 7 Day 37: did another lazy compost tea.
June 11: more rain again the last few days but she’s doing fine.
Big thanks for putting our latest release, Amnesia Haze Auto, in the spotlight of this grow diary! 🌟 She’s off to a dreamy start with Sproutly 🌱.
