GanjaGecko Work 1 // D1-D7 On day 6, I repotted. The Deepwater Cherry moved into a 12L fabric pot. Deepwater Cherry has now settled comfortably in the 60×60×180cm tent from Spiderfarmer under the Sanlight EVO 3-60 1.5 with a maximum output of 200W. The Sanlight was dimmed to 40% on day 7. This gives the ladies around 400ppfd. The distance from the LED to the plant is 40cm. The substrate mix consists of about 80% BioBizz Lightmix and about 20% coco with perlite (70/30). For the growth phase, there are about 11L of substrate in the pot. The last liter of substrate will be added with the bloom fertilizer when switching the light cycle to 12/12. Additionally, for soil improvement, there was - 1TL/L Megaworm - 5% BioChar - 2g/L rock dust In the pot where the Deepwater Cherry has found its place, the planting hole was sprinkled with some Great White mycorrhiza and Dynomyco mycorrhiza. On the surface, there was 50g of BioGrow from GreenHouseFeeding, which was thoroughly mixed into the surface of the substrate. When watering, I added 100ml to the saucers, and then 2x 250ml at a pH of 6.0 from above into the pot. So, the Deepwater Cherry received 600ml. At the beginning, it’s not about completely watering the substrate; it should evenly store moisture so that the small roots are not crushed or drowned and can stretch nicely into the substrate. GanjaGecko WEEK 2 // D8-D14 In the second week of vegetation, there wasn't much to do. The Deepwater Cherry has settled in well and looks fit so far. Update: There is now a second Deepwater Cherry in the tent. Since I decided not to place a heating mat under the seedlings for the current 4 ladies and two backup seeds because I thought the summer temperatures would be sufficient, the germination of the seeds took a bit longer. One Devil Driver didn't germinate at all, which I thought was due to the environment. All other seeds came up between day 4-7. So in one tent, there are Strawberry Lobster and Strawberry Guava BX, both of which almost simultaneously saw the light of day. The Deepwater Cherry took 7 days to emerge. Since the Devil Driver didn't make it, I prepared another Devil Driver seed and one seed from Deepwater Cherry along with two backup seeds. With a heating mat and everything. Again, all came up except the Devil Driver. So I potted the first Deepwater Cherry with the Fruity Pebbles backup from the first germination round. I initially found it hard to part with the backups, especially since one backup seed is a successfully germinated Ocean Truffle S1 seed. However, since I'm currently looking for a decent cherry pheno, I spontaneously decided to plant the second Deepwater Cherry, which is about 7 days behind, in a 7-liter pot and add it to the mix. The substrate mix here is 3L Lightmix and 3L Coco, topped with another 1L of worm humus. The idea behind this is that the higher coco content promotes a slightly more aggressive growth and compensates for the week of delay + the smaller pot. GanjaGecko WEEK 3 // D15-D21 The Deepwater Cherry has shown nice, even growth so far. After topping on day 20, the side branches should start to pick up now. Due to the light spots between the leaf veins, I measured the soil pH. Maybe it’s because of the freshly watered substrate with BioEnhancer that the pH was at 7.3; I will still water with a pH of 5.5 for now. The Fruity Pebbles has a pH of 7.1 and hasn’t shown these signs yet. As I said, I will water both ladies with pH 5.5, then the light spots should turn green again. The environmental conditions are currently hell or at least not far from it. I waited a bit too long with the climate devices🤣 now there are only the loud ones that consume a godly amount of electricity. So, I guess I’ll have to tough it out this summer😆 The VPD is still quite pleasant to maintain. And now, in the early growth phase, the temperatures aren’t too concerning. The second Deepwater Cherry is also slowly getting into gear. As I said, due to the second attempt to germinate Devil Driver and Deepwater Cherry together, there was a second Deepwater Cherry left over. This one is actually just meant to grow alongside to increase the pheno luck for a loud cherry pheno that ideally brings a big yield. The best cherry pheno of the two will then be cloned to get the best out of her in a cutting run. GanjaGecko WEEK 4 // D22-D28 Deepwater Cherry#1 is developing beautifully and evenly. On day 24, I did some LST to spread the branches out so they can fill the tent as evenly as possible later on. Deepwater Cherry#2, which is about a week behind, is also doing wonderfully. When I was banding the main stem, I could immediately smell it after rubbing the stalk... Man, am I glad I kept the second Deepwater Cherry! You can definitely smell that it could go in the direction of cherry. This one will definitely be cloned again! There probably won't be another topping. Since the slightly younger Deepwater Cherry is the third lady in the tent, it needs a bit fewer branches per lady in the tent. GanjaGecko WEEK 5 // D29-D35 Midweek, cuttings were taken from both ladies. This way, I can soon send the tent into flowering and see which of the two ladies performs better and which of the two Deepwaters has the loudest cherry terps. The Deepwater Cherry with the stronger cherry terps, best growth structure, meaning internodes, stacking, and yield will then be grown again with the appropriate pheno knowledge to get the best out of the genetics. I strongly suspect that when it comes to loud cherry terps, the second, slightly smaller Deepwater will be the one. We’ll see. GanjaGecko WEEK 6 // D36-D42 On day 36, the first layer of the Scrog net was installed. This serves as a little help to promote and shape the desired canopy. Some of the eager shoots were placed back under the Scrog net. For the shoots that were particularly eager, Budclips were used, while for the others, twisting the shoots and placing them under the net was sufficient. The second layer of the Scrog net will come into the tent around week 2 of flowering to support and evenly distribute the shoots. The Deepwater Cherry could still handle a topping here and there, but since there are 3 ladies in the tent and a run with 2 cuttings of the best phenos is coming up, the ladies had to go into flowering pretty quickly. Both were slightly defoliated and trained, which is why they look a bit rough. Both ladies should look fit again by the end of the day, or at the latest, by tomorrow. This week, flowering was also slowly initiated. The light was reduced by 1 hour daily, while the light intensity for each hour taken away was minimally increased. If you only reduce the exposure time without increasing the intensity, the DLI decreases. This signals to the plant anything but that it's about to go into flowering. The slow transition into flowering of reducing light by one hour each day is meant to prevent the plant from stretching unnecessarily and to keep the nodes closer together. However, this only happens if you slightly increase the light intensity for each hour less. If you don't do that, the DLI decreases, and the plant suddenly suffers from light deficiency, possibly compensating by stretching a bit more to get closer to the light. _____________________________________________ Fertilizing: Water is used that is kept in motion 24/7 with an aquarium pump in a 10L watering can. GanjaGecko WEEK 7/1F // D43/1F - D49/7F The Deepwater Cherries are quite interesting. Both are incredibly loud and relatively distinct when rubbing the stem. Deepwater Cherry#1 has an incredibly intense rubber and fuel smell when rubbed on the stem. It's like standing on a go-kart track. I'm excited to see what the flowering brings. With Deepwater#1, all the side shoots could have been topped with a clear conscience since the lateral branches are unfortunately not the most motivated. Deepwater Cherry#2 already smells incredibly fruity and could lean towards cherry, accompanied by floral and candy terps, and maybe there's a hint of citrus in the background. I find it very complex for something rubbed on the stem. I'm incredibly looking forward to the flowering. The few side shoots that received a topping have quickly directed their energy into the lateral branches. Cherry#2 definitely has the stronger growth. The main stem was only trained with LST so that the canopy of the tent doesn't suffer with the ladies standing in the tent. The recovery from topping would have slightly slowed down growth. On day 6 of flowering, the last layer of substrate was added with the first portion of flowering fertilizer in the pot. There are now 3g of BioBloom per liter of substrate, and I will mix in the Batguano as a flowering booster in the third week of flowering with another 2g of BioBloom per liter of substrate. Deepwater Cherry#1 has a total of 12L of substrate, 36g of BioBloom (3g/L), 12TL of Megaworm (1TL/L substrate), and a bit of Dynomyco mycorrhiza and some Great White mycorrhiza were also added. GanjaGecko Week 8/2F // D50/8F - D56/14F Both Deepwater Cherries have behaved quite similarly in terms of stretch. However, the smell of Deepwater Cherry#2 is so promising and loud. With #2, just removing a leaf makes everything around it smell of these incredibly sweet and fruity candy notes. I'm curious to see how Cherry#2 performs in the late flowering phase. Cherry#1 still makes you think of a go-kart track😄 Let's see what happens in the coming weeks. On Day 53/11F of this week, the Sanlight EVO 3-60 1.5 was dimmed to 150W. This gives the ladies in the middle 900 ppfd and still over 800 ppfd in the corners. The second layer of the Scrog net was also installed; however, this layer is more for organizing the shoots than for LST. This week, the sleep and wake-up light was turned on. A Far Red light strip in the 730-745nm range - the Spider Farmer SUPP-IR 16. This turns on 13 minutes before the Sanlight comes on and goes off 2 minutes after the main lighting starts, simulating sunrise. Then the Far Red turns back on as a little sleep aid for 15 minutes before the Sanlight goes off and continues for 15 minutes after the Sanlight goes off, simulating sunset. The lighting with Far Red LEDs accelerates the metabolic adjustment after the light goes out. This allows the ladies to recover better at night and start the new day refreshed. Plants have an absorption spectrum that sees Far Red light as an indicator of the onset of darkness. We can take advantage of this fact with artificial lighting. The so-called phytochromes are responsible for the absorption of Far Red light waves. These are a type of photoreceptor proteins that influence a variety of plant growth processes. Phytochromes control processes such as germination, flowering, and photoperiodism, which is the regulation of the day-night rhythm. Essentially, there are two types or conformations of phytochromes in plants: The Pr form (r=red) has its absorption maximum at around 660 nm, and the Pfr form (fr=far red) at about 730 nm. What do phytochromes have to do with plant lights? Quite simply: By using the Far Red spectrum, relevant processes like photoperiodism can be specifically influenced to optimize nighttime recovery and thus photosynthesis, leading to better yield results. If the low-energy Far Red radiation stays on in the evening for about 10 to 15 minutes longer than the regular light, it acts as a "sleep initiator." Plants switch to their natural sleep mode faster this way and can use the extra time for recovery. GanjaGecko Week 9/3F // D57/15F - D63/21F Oh man... it happened again... there was a moment of brief sadness, but then I thought, what would a grow be without a broken main stem? 😂😂 While attaching the left side of the Scrog net, I was a bit too rough. Unfortunately, one of the main stems broke off. There has been some terpene action. When rubbing the stems, Deepwater Cherry #2 had those sweet fruity/candy terps that I thought might lean towards cherry, but have now transformed into sweet orange terps. 😂 Still considering giving it a second round because it's the loudest lady so far just from rubbing the stem. I think if it's already that loud, the terps will scream. Deepwater Cherry #1, on the other hand, now has some solid cherry terps after rubbing a small sugar leaf. However, these cherry terps come hand in hand with equally pronounced cantaloupe melon terps. Probably the tropical notes from the Ocean Fruit. Absolutely delicious! Let's see which one prevails or how they mix. Deepwater Cherry #1 will definitely come back as a cutting. The terps will decide for Deepwater Cherry #2. I would love to send both out again. Orange terps are also absolutely delicious. Lollipopping happened this week too. Since there were very few side branches, the work with the two Deepwater Cherries was quite manageable. With the Deepwaters, you’re just rubbing the stems or sugar leaves and smelling your fingers. 😂💚 There was also a setup upgrade. The new toy is a Spiderfarmer under-canopy LED. Two bars went into the tent. With a 60x60cm footprint, you don't need more than two bars in a tent. Hopefully, there will be a noticeable difference in the ripening process of the lower buds and hopefully also in the yield. You can clearly see that the middle area, where the light usually comes in a bit heavier, is now wonderfully illuminated. The second part of the flowering nutrients was added.
