Hi guys ! Nice to meet you, here are my babies, my very first ones. Northern Light auto from RQS (10 plants), growing indoor (but the box itself is outdoor, no choice...). Actually have 2x600W, I'll use the same light for vegetative and flowering period. Using Biobizz nutrients. I'm a beginner, so no problem with critics, they'll probably help me a lot, I hope I can get some help from you guys, advices, what you think of my plants etc... This is the first week and I think they're doing quite well ! Some are smaller but I put them in soil the same day although they didn't have the same root length.

It's very hot these days, very difficult to maintain a temperature under 26°C, even at night.. The night period is between 1pm and 6pm when it's the hottest outside, I try my best to cool down the room when I'm home. Humidity is always between 48% and 57%, at least this parameter is good. The temp often goes over 30°C in the box because of the heat wave. The plants are growing very very fast though, I take a look on morning and when I'm back home, I can see they grew over the day !! That's crazy ! But I'm quite worried, they're not 100% healthy, the leaves are curled up, I guess it's too hot, should I mist the leaves ? Need some advices !

The leaves are curled up, it's hot in the room these days, I guess this is the reason. Plants growing fast anyway, humidity between 48%57% but I'm worried because of this leaves problem. Should I ? I do my best to cool down but can I do something else ? Mist the leaves ? Thanks !

hey there, you're too hot right now, but actually for seedlings it's basically fine. Actually your leaves are curling due to root problems because the pH is too high from the root juice which will raise the pH of soil leading to this problem. You do need some pH down if you keep on using it , and soon you might get more serious problems. not to worry the soil will recover with a strict wet dry cycle (so simple!) or use a buffering agent like humic acid which will boost the plant and fix the soil, dont use to much though ! hope this helps ! 🚀

Thanks to your advices guys, the plants survived the heat wave ! I had to reduce the light time due the hot temperatures outside, now that it's done and the temperatures back to normal, the light schedule is back to 18h/6h. I misted them frequently and I can tell how well it works, the leaves are way less curled up, the plants are still growing fast. I now mist them a little bit when the light turns off. I started LST on day 17 and re-adjusted it on day 20, I think I'm doing it well but I could be wrong, comment and tell what I can do better ! I only water them once a week, I wait for the soil to be very dry, like 1cm deep or even more. I noticed some pistils on the biggest plants, I guess they're already pre-flowering Couldn't take much photos of this week, I had a lot of work and the light is on when I'm back home, I made a short video with lights on, I also heard music stimulate plants, so I tried lol

DAY 27, most of the plants are flowering, LST works so well. I'm worried because some of them seems to have advance, I don't think the buds should be that big for their age, maybe the heat stress made them flowering faster ? Moreover, some plants have their lower leaves turning yellow, I don't know what it is, give them nutrients once every 2 watering and I'm being very light with the amount of nutrients. Ordered 2 cooltubes, one for each light, it will help to cool down the room, gotta pick them up at the store and use them today. DAY 33, I followed your advices guys and added a bit of each nutrients for their deficiencies, don't know exactly if it was Ca, Mg or N deficiency but I can tell how better they are ! Water pH between 6,2 and 6,5 with 3acid down, hygro 55%. Because of the lower hygro for flowering stage, temp is going higher, I'll try my best to take care of them because another heat wave is coming... Thinking about reducing the light time to 12/12

The lower leaves of some plants are yellow, then die. I'm very light with nutrients, there is no bugs into the grow room, what can it be ? pH between 6 and 7, lower it with few drops of lemon juice but bought a 3aciddown bottle. And are the buds supposed to be that big already ?

hey bro they are looking really good ( i am doing the same Strain),your are really fast, which is a good thing :D it is normal that some leaves turns yellow at the begining of flowering , you can start giving them Biobizz Bloom now , i would not change anything else ,becuase the plants are more sensitive to over feeding in flowering phase ,over feeding them can stun the growth, and you dont want that ,specially with flowering 😉

No more yellow leaves spreading problem, it was the lack of nutrients for sure ! Thanks for those who helped me ! :) Something to consider for my next grow: I decided to grow 10 plants to get a chance to have a decent harvest as it is my first time but it takes too much space, I barely have room to move myself inside the box and the plants have less light. I also think it is the reason it's too hot inside the box, when the plants were small and the outside temperatures the same as today, it was was less hot. Next time, I'll grow like 5 or 6 but making them bushy as hell !!

Had to deal with a lot of problems... It was strange to me that it's still very hot inside the growbox so I checked all my equipment and opened the softbox I made for the carbon filter and the air extractor: the extractor was completely fucked up, that was the reason of all my heat problems... Ordered a new one but didn't receive it on time, family currently visiting so impossible to set up everything, I turn on the light when everyone is sleeping and turn it off before they wake up, quite hard to manage !

DAY 63, the grow box is now fully functional again, new extractor, new handmade softbox, back to 18/6 schedule, max temp=33°C, RH=50% (I know it's a bit high for flowering stage but I check carefully the plants and so far, nothing is wrong) 3 plants are frosty, I can see the trichomes with the microscope so I stopped the nutrients for them and flush with water pH 6,2, do you guys think I'm doing well ? For the 7 others: - 1 hasn't flowered, I keep her but I know shell never give nothing. - 6 are growing and I keep giving nutrients (Biogrow, Biobloom, Topmax and Bioheaven)

All my plants are infested of thrips ! I didn't notice before, beginner mistake ! I can see the thrips under the leaves, even close to the buds. I'm about to harvest 1 plant very soon and the others in the coming weeks, can I harvest anyway or I have to get rid of them before ?

You can harvest as planned. I am sure we have all smoked worse than a few bugs at one time or another lol. I would order some ladybugs to kill them on the rest of the plants though.

Day 68, nothing to say in particular, I'm gonna harvest a plant in few days I think, trichomes are milky. I'm flushing most of them (even if I use organic nutes, I prefer to flush) but still give nutes to the ones without trichomes. Still thinking if I should do a water curing to remove the thrips ? It's my first harvest ever so I don't know if I'm wise enough for that ! I won't be able to harvest them all at the same time. One is almost ready, some other are just showing their first trichomes. But it's okay, I'll use another room to dry them, it should be fine ! They're not very smelly but when I approach my nose, they do smell weed ahah, I can even notice a little smell difference between the plants, must be because they're at a different stage or maybe because they had a hard time and some are healthier.

Day 75, close to the end !! Still flushing and getting ready for harvest ! In approx 6 days, I'll harvest my first one, the rest a bit later, not ready yet. So I got a second hand furniture that I turned into a drying box to start drying while the rest is still growing. I'm so excited for the harvest !! It has to be soon cause I'm running out of weed ! I won't wait the curing to be done to start smoking it lol. A huge thanks to all the growers who helped or commented me, I learnt so much on this website, please feel free to ask for help, I'm not an expert but I'll always try to help the community :) Good luck to all !

Day 80, harvested 1 plant, she didn't really look good, the buds are very smelly and dense though. Some trichomes were brown so decided to chop her (the smallest buds only had milky trichomes, even not even milky for some). It wasn't one of the biggest so I hope for bigger yields for the other plants ! Now drying, got 145g after the wet manucure. The rest of the plants are still in the grow box, they're healthier and they'll be ready in few days, I thought I would harvest before but mother nature is the boss.. will keep you guys updated !

If it is your first time growing weed, this Northern Lights will be perfect. They had to endure: extremely hot temperatures (over 40°C sometimes), lack of water, lack of light (sometimes a complete day without light), lack of space, lack of fresh air... But they survived. My mind is blown ! So resistant, will give you a decent amount of buds. I am about to start the next grow, I'll include some NL seed again ! The high comes pretty fast, it makes me laugh and smile if I smoke with people and very creative when I'm alone, I really like how it makes me feel. Very happy with the results !

The best weed I have ever tried, because it was my very first grow experience so it tastes quite different to me :D Very resistant, very very, resisted to high temp, absence of light, lack of water and so on. The weed isn't that tasty due to all the problems (heat wave and fan breakdown, light breakdown and many more) but it does make me high. 1 plant has never flowered, probably due to the stress. The best plant (among 9) is way more smelly, it must smell sooo good when grown with good parameters. Very reactive to LST, she'll forgive your beginner mistakes (I made some 😅). It's definitely a must if it's a first grow. Next grow starts soon, 3 NL are included !

Morning Paulolo, I'm a strong avocate of misting plants.....and on a regular basis - ultimately I'm mirroring mother nature. Well that's how I see it. If you have a look at my diary you'll see how healthy the plants are. I tend to mist between waters just with H20 and I've had no complaints from the girls! 😀
mr_h_kovert
mr_h_kovertcommented6 years ago
@Paulolo03, What would happen in nature Paulo? I sometimes give the plants a drenching - most of the water will drip down into the soil anyway so I'd say not to worry about making the roots lazy. I wouldn't however recommend too much misting once flowering has commenced.
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented6 years ago
@mr_h_kovert, yep, doing it for the first time and it's clearly a super important and often overlooked tool to have in a grow room - i'm a new but also strong advocate like like you lol
Paulolo03
Paulolo03commented6 years ago
@mr_h_kovert, thanks man, I tried yesterday during night time and the plants seem to like it, at least, they don't dislike it ! I read before that it's not good to do it often, because the plant absorb water through the leaves and the roots become lazy... Don't know if it's true, I'll keep doing it and see by myself
Fruitgrower
Fruitgrowercommentedweek 56 years ago
I think it's normal for some of the lower leaves to turn yellow. It's just the way it is, they don't get as much light and the rest of the plant is taking the nutrients from them. Could also be its warm in there and they're just dying out. Calmags also not a bad idea. I wouldn't worry, just keep doing what you're doing. 👍
Paulolo03
Paulolo03commented6 years ago
@Fruitgrower, hell yeah it's hard plant ! I went over 33°C sometimes, it didn't affect the plants that much and they recovered so fast ! I guess my 720m³/h air extractor helped. Gonna take a look at these evaporate coolers, never heard of that before
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented6 years ago
@Fruitgrower, evoporative coolers are the bomb , for sure ! i reckon more people would have them around if only they knew that such a thing existed, that it is cheap and that it's called that lol
Fruitgrower
Fruitgrowercommented6 years ago
@Paulolo03, I think (dependent on the strain obviously) Cannabis is a pretty hardy Plant and can tolerate high temps with the right air exchange. But adding an evaporate cooler which i got for 50 bar really helped my grow, wish id have done it earlier.

hey there, I grow the same strain from the same breeder right now. Are the evenly high branches the result of LST? the plants look super and healthy! Happy growing :D
Paulolo03
Paulolo03commented6 years ago
@absolutgrow, thanks bro, I actually already have or tried everything you mentioned: my exhaust fan is 720m³/h (my grow box about 0,9m x 2,4m), 2 smaller ones to bring in fresh air from the outside (about 350m³/h). The temperatures was fine from the beginning to week 4, I guess because my humidity was set at 70% and as you say, it helps to cool down the temp. When they started to flower, I changed for 50 to 55%, the temperature went too high, it's summer and we had 2 heat waves, so I bought 2 cooltubes, it probably helps but it's still too hot... Don't want more humidity for the risk of mould again exactly as you said... And I can't move the box, it's outside in a woodshed. I have a good isolation for winter but the air comes directly from outside so if it's hot outside, you see.. 😅 I already thought about the LED but can't afford it yet, I will probably invest for the next grow but also wondering if I really should because next grow will be in winter and that heat produced by my HPS would be useful ! I'll keep growing with what I have and learn from this first experience ! I'm gonna follow your diary and see how it goes ;)
absolutgrow
absolutgrowcommented6 years ago
@Paulolo03, haha what a coincidence xD, thanks for the tips. Regarding the too warm temperatures: I grow this strain for the first time and can't say anything specific about it. In general, however, it is so that temperatures above 35 degrees can damage the plant seriously in terms of quality and quantity. In extreme cases it can even die (but is very rare). Now to the solutions: Do you have an exhaust fan that exhausts enough m3/h (depending on the size of your tent)? If not, you should get one urgently. You should also let the warm air out of the tent through pipes to the outside or at least out of the room. If not, the heat will accumulate in the room. If that doesn't work you should think about buying a cooltube. This costs but can reduce the heat emitted by a lamp by 50%. Alternatively, you can buy an LED that produces less heat and uses less electricity. You could also increase the humidity, which would lower the temperature. But I wouldn't recommend that because mould can develop. If everything doesn't work I would move the tent (if possible) to a cooler place. For example a cellar. I myself had a lot of problems with too high temperatures and got them under control :p.
Paulolo03
Paulolo03commented6 years ago
@absolutgrow, hey ! I took a look at your diary few minutes before you actually comment this :P Yes, it is the result of LST, which worked very very well. Make sure to adjust it at least 2 or 3 times a week with the purpose to have no one branches higher than the others, you'll notice sometimes that the plant respond overnight ! My plants look healthy but I'm dealing with high temperatures (around 40°C sometimes), they are very strong and endure it but I think it affects their grow lately, I hope I'll have the decent harvest I expect. If you've more question, I'm here ;) Happy growing man

Hey man, your plants look great with frosty buds. They seem to have recovered from the heat stress😇 What Pot size do you use?
Paulolo03
Paulolo03commented6 years ago
@absolutgrow, they recovered from heat stress and many other problems as well ! The pots are 15L, they were full at the beginning but through all the watering, the soil got packed and it's about 12 or 13L now. The pots are actually buckets for paint, sand etc bought in a DIY store, screwed wooden blocks on the bottom and drilled holes for the water to drain, cheap and efficient !

Hi @Paulolo03! You're right, your environment is too hot for such young plants. You can try to increase your relative humidity, by putting fresh wet towels every 12 hours into your grow room, or by adding an electrical humidifier (in this case don't forget to replace/refresh the water every 12 hours). Spraying a fresh solution could help the plants to relax, but only if you do this at night, do not spray anything while the lights are on, you will increase the risk of burnt spots onto the leaves. Another option could be to build a DIY air conditionner, with bucket/ice/fan, there are some nice tutorials on YouTube, but this solution don't seem really efficient. Hope this will help, keep us updated and happy growing! 👊

Paulolo03commented6 years ago
@Stick, thank you for your answer !! I've 2 small humidifier, I'm gonna set a higher humidity % and spray some fresh water on the plants. It's gonna be really hot for few more days here, is it a good idea to set a longer night time to avoid hot temperatures during the day ? Thank you again for your help 🤙

Ma man nice grow!! So was it fast for you? Yeah i know that feeling when you running out lol! Same for me because i don't have to much space in the house and my misses is angry at me that i take space with my girls and all those sounds with ventilation but she got use to it LoL😅 So I have only 70cm 70cm 160cm tent and for now I only grow 2 plants every grow not that much space 😬 and not enough yield to smoke till the other yield comes again, so I don't now ,need to practise more with what i have to get bigger yields.. maybe this would solve my problem that im always runing out of the weed fuckng sucks, not having time for the curing want to smoke NOW! and I can't realy expand more only got that much space for now.. so need to grow big ass koalas to pay off the smoking house that I am lol! So ma man when you hit the smoke of this beautiful Northen Light make a review rate it ! cuz in my next grow i will try this strain , I see that it's a big yielder normaly, look up Grow pot cheaply on youtube he did this strain and yielded 398 grams from one plant! Thats what i need to learn use my space of how much I have and make those 2 strains what i grow so big that maybe it's enough to hold till the next yield? Im waiting to see how much you will yield! Good luck.
