29/07/9, Day 29: went into flower mid-late last week. What I thought was a magnesium deficiency I now think may be zinc. The runoff yesterday was 7.11 despite everything that’s gone into the pot has been lowered to 6.5. I’m hoping I can get a handle on it before it impacts yields too badly. Lowered the light back down to 100w as the top leaves were cupping down and plant was starting to droop. Will try slowly bump back up once get the rest under control. 01/08/19, Day 32: Pot felt light today so watered with 3L bottled water still with half strength nutes. Used vinegar to see if it holds the ph any better, went in at 6.0 and runoff (minimal) was 6.63. Also full strength calmag today.

From the start I’ve been watering with ph 6.5. I just discovered my runoff is 7.1 and I have what I believe to be a zinc deficiency. Similar issue on my previous grow. How can I fix my watering routine such that the ph stays more stable?

Hey there Paul, sorry to disappoint you but you most likely don't have zinc deficiency! Such a deficiency is exceedingly rare in soil, mostly it's a "lab" thing, and in your case it's not what's affecting you. You have two issues: burnt tips and Mg deficiency. Burnt tips are from a (slight) excess of NPK fertiliser, most likely the nitrogen. The yellowing you're seeing well that's the Mg part. I see you're on a 24hrs light schedule. There's a very good reason you don't see any successful grows with 24hr light schedule: the plant goes into overdrive and needs more nutrients especially mg which is used to regulate photosynthesis when it's lights on, so even though you've been feeding Mg, well the plant just needs more. The plant's now stressed and the problem will start spreading eventually becoming pretty bad the leafs will burn on starting with the edges. For sure you'll need to reduce the light cycle and I suggest reducing it to 18/6 to reduce stress, but I know you'll end up reducing it to something less than that. Try also making a foliar spray with your calmag and spray the plany shortly before lights on. Increase it in your feed too. For the pH issue, I see you're pH ing down, hopefully using a store bought pH down and not some kind of homemade pH down recipe. Next feed cut out the algamic all together because it will raise your soils pH and it contains N in it which are two of your problems. Hope this helps ! 🚀

Hi Paul, ur sour crack plant is looking pretty good so far! Maybe a little hungry? From my experience with this strain- no more than half strength nutes, average to heavy dose of CalMag (3-5mls) with every watering and steady defoliation thru the last half of grow. This strain bulks up fast and heavy and is truly ready/ripe in the advertised 10-11 weeks. The finished product is as good as you’d hope for- one of my favourite strains forever! Best of luck, i’ll check back in soon to see how she finishes out...😺

@paulsgrows, you should follow the directions on your bottle as i’m not sure what brand ur using. My brand calls for 3-5 mls per gallon as a maintenance dose throughout the grow. I found that upping the CalMag for my Sour Crack plants stopped that yellowing all together. But if ur ladies seem healthy overall, I wouldn’t change anything drastically at this point. Just watch for nute burn as uv upped ur feed to full strength, small plants like these don’t usually need tonnes of food.

@Momgrowsthechronic, thanks for the tips! I’ve been giving half strength nutes up until the last few days where I moved to full. I’ve had a calmag deficiency earlier in the grow which I think makes the overall plant look a little yellow. I’m using 1ml per litre right now which is the max on the bottle, would you really go 3+ times higher than that?

@paulsgrows, you got it Paul! I can't really speak to amazing 24/0 grows as I've never seen any but I'm like you and with my buddies on here we're all trying to figure it out , but if you have links we'd love to learn. Yeah see the "organic" pH downs are problematic; why? Because when you add them to your feed they reduce pH, but then they don't last long enough but by that time they're in your soil. What I'm trying to say is the lemon juice is effective onlynforna few hours that's why your run off is high-ish. For the rest all I can say is that it's my level-best opinion based on what I know and what I can see : burnt tips is a sign of nutrient burn usually because of N, and based on all the products you're adding all I can suggest is you check the labels because these nutrient companies often randomly add N in things you're not expecting it for example kelp extract, the micro , and probably other stuff too... Am I sure it's Mg and not zinc... Yeah pretty much the only thing I'm 100% on, and it's surely because of the stress from the light cycle... Thing is it will take upwards of 10 days to 2 weeks for the plant to stabilize... Sorry for being the bad news guy lol , don't shoot the messenger 😅🤠

@CRiSPrGrow, thanks very much for the answer! I’m a little unsure about a few of your points. I thought it was magnesium too, but the issue started very early (like day 15). I’ve been adding max dose of calmag but it hasn’t helped. Other than that I’ve been giving minimal nutes (1/4 strength) in light mix soil, I can’t see that this would be bleaching the tips. Agreed there should be plenty of zinc there but I think it’s locked out from the high ph. Very possible I’m wrong though. Regarding the light cycle, I think plenty of people have had amazing results with 24/0, Mephisto them selves use this in their grow guide. That said I’ve read it can exacerbate problems so I’m going to start maybe 20/4 from today. Finally, you mentioned homemade ph down... well, I have being using lemon juice simply as I have it to hand and it’s organic. Do you think it may not be as stable as store bought ph down? Thanks again for all the input.

Had two of these lady’s growing chopped one yesterday at day 54. Not as huge buds as your but she produced and holy shit were they frosty! I noticed mine were Calmag whores actually found my self going over the max dose to keep up! But anyways I have seen so many of these plants on AFN and here now as well with the burnt tips. Mine started to get burnt tips around the time they started flowering I’m not so sure we are doing anything wrong maybe this is a genetic thing ? As for my second I think I will be pushing her longer and maybe to see how long she takes to get a couple amber Trichs. The phenos on my second one seem to be a bit different than my other one the smell is absolutely amazing like an airhead with a tone of diesel but I also haven’t had any weird issues with my second one no Calmag issues not as many burnt tips. It was nice reading and checking out your diary looks like you did just fine my friend !
