This is my first grow ever. Germinated in a rapid rooter in a cup and bag, no light. Seedling came out lanky and yellow and put it in the grow tent with the light on the lowest setting and using a lux meter and par conversion calculator on the hlg website. Tap root poked through the net pot after day 5.

Grow Questions

I have my light dimmed down but also lower to get a lux reading around 25000. According to the HLG conversion calculator it's putting me around 364ppfd. Is this acceptable or is my light placement/setting going to affect my plant negatively?

Well seeing how 25000 is in the ambient lighting area it would seem that this is fine for a girl that size , should be efficient and lots of available light to use..I can't see how it would be bad except if this little seedling can't handle that..if she is healthy which she does look healthy then it should be fine in those ranges just keep a close eye on her and if needed just raise those lights up a bit or drop the intensity to 20000 or less they will like most weeds recover after what ever you put her through all about practise congrats on your first grow ..

Shes bushy and harder to LST for air flow/light to the lower sites. The larger leaves are laying on the top of the bucket, and there's moisture when lifted. I'm using a larger fan to keep air moving. Do you recommend trimming some leaves during veg? Also which leaves would I cut?

It is better to trim in veg than in bloom. I would remove every leaves that can are in direct contact with the bucket to avoid moisture because if you develop a fungus for ex it could spread on the higher leaves. You can also put the light higher to makes her stretch a bit and gain enough height to not be in contact with the bucket / clay balls. Cut the leaves that are affected or that will be , the ones touching the bucket will possibly have an issue due to water so you can remove them

My plant is short and wide and the center is pretty crowded with leaves but they are all starting to produce trichomes. Is it an issue to have leaves touching each other in this state or do I have to remove some? I don't really want to mess with her in this stage.

Looking at this plant, those leaves are mostly sugar leaves and bud sites leaves. If you were dealing with high RH problems, yes it will be better to trim it a bit, but apparently your RH is under control at 45% , and I can see that lil fan next to your plant. In your personal case, I would suggest to let it do her thing, particularly with an Autoflowering as they don't forgive any mistakes !

hey congratulations this looks verh healthy for first dwc run. may i ask wich scedule u follow for the nutes ? because ghe scedule says 0.4ml/liter of every part during week 4 (bloom, micro, gro) i want to try dwc too with these nutrients im just confused about the amount i have to give

medicalflyercommented5 years ago
@Reaper, you can see I use a black hose and black bucket. I also got aluminum tape on the top of the bucket to help keep temps down in the reservoir. I haven't had any issues with light leak but I was over cautious and put hydroton around the edges of the basket to block light from there as well.

@medicalflyer, Thanks for the info. i tryd dwc before with plagron nutes and it was horrible. i also have to block licht from above i have that alien 55L bubbler wich comes with a lime green netpot LOL also the holes where the long rubber things go trough for the airstones i have to stick so much tape on it wtf... how are u blocking the light from those holes

@Reaper, Thanks! It's my first grow ever as well so your comment makes me proud! I honestly just follow the bottle as much as I can. Since my plant is now what I would consider "mild veg" I just started using that application. To answer your other comment as well, the seedling was just showing with no roots, I had the water brought up just above the small layer of hydroton. I learned for my second grow I will add a little more hydroton to the base layer since my girl is shorter and didn't actually stretch above the top of the basket, making anchor points for LST a little harder. As she grew I added more hydroton. If anything just feel it out as you go. I'm learning so much from this one plant that I'm really excited on my future ones! Good luck!

Hi @medicalflyer! Proximity between colas can be an issue, because airflow and light penetration are not at their best, but in your case I think you're just before the red line, unless you have some relative humidity issue (high RH during late flowering) I see no need to defoliate. Keep those sugar leaves to make some canna-butter or some bubble-hash! Hope this will help, keep us updated and happy growing 👊

@Stick, thanks for the feedback! My humidity isnt an issue so I'm going to keep monitoring the leaves for moisture.
Athos
Athoscommentedweek 85 years ago
A too dense foliage can have a high humidity risk. Check those leaves, if there traces of water then yes, it is a problem that should be Taken care of by some defoliation

@@Athos, thanks for your response! I haven't seen any issues yet so I'll keep a good eye on her till I do see any bad signs.

how high was your water when u put the rockwool in the dwc?and did u have alot of root showing out of the rockwool before u put it in the dwc? and how much hydroton was at the bottom of the netpot where u put your seedling? was it about 1 inch?
