This is my first grow ever. Germinated in a rapid rooter in a cup and bag, no light. Seedling came out lanky and yellow and put it in the grow tent with the light on the lowest setting and using a lux meter and par conversion calculator on the hlg website. Tap root poked through the net pot after day 5.

Started to feed nutrients. ph was climbing from 5.5 to about 6.5 until 3 days after adding nutrients. Tap root has started making branches and leaves are making progress. I will be taking better pictures. I just pulled the ones I had on my phone before creating this diary. Day 10 The main root that was hanging in the res was severed some how. There are smaller roots still on the edge of the basket and I'm hoping they will stretch into the res. Not sure how it broke off. I still have high hopes for this little one! Day 12 There are multiple roots coming out of the basket! I was expecting her to stretch a little to keep filling the basket with hydroton but she's staying short while working on her third node. Currently flush with the top of the basket.

I have my light dimmed down but also lower to get a lux reading around 25000. According to the HLG conversion calculator it's putting me around 364ppfd. Is this acceptable or is my light placement/setting going to affect my plant negatively?

Well seeing how 25000 is in the ambient lighting area it would seem that this is fine for a girl that size , should be efficient and lots of available light to use..I can't see how it would be bad except if this little seedling can't handle that..if she is healthy which she does look healthy then it should be fine in those ranges just keep a close eye on her and if needed just raise those lights up a bit or drop the intensity to 20000 or less they will like most weeds recover after what ever you put her through all about practise congrats on your first grow ..

Day 14 Beginning of Week 3! Nutrient changed and ph to 5.5. plant is looking healthy and long roots are dipping into the reservoir. Added a little hydroton to the basket for any potential light leak. Also removed one of the 2 large air stones since the roots seem to have a hard time staying on the plant outside of the basket. Day 15 ph rose to 6.6 overnight and I put it back to 5.5. hopefully it will stabilize soon. Day 16 ph is stable at 6.4. Very noticable growth Day 18 started LST and getting more light to the smaller growth Day 20 she's responded well to the LST and is starting to put out some nice aroma! Ending week 3 nice and strong!

Week 4!! Day 21 Changed nutrients and water. Kept it lower since the roots are making their way out and down. the lower branches are growing out more since the LST and slowly making it into a nice bush. Day 22 accidentally snapped a lower branch and taped it so I hope that recovers. Day 23 there are pistils showing! Added some water ph to 5.8. Cranked the Lux to 27000 in the tent Day 24 tied her down for more light penetration. Trying to not defoliate and just tucking large leaves under new sites Day 26 tied down again, Did a nutrient change of 3.5 gallons with 4 ml/gal of Cal-Mag, 1/2 teaspoon of Armor Si, 2 tsp/gal Micro, 3 tsp/gal Gro, and 1 tsp/gal Bloom

Shes bushy and harder to LST for air flow/light to the lower sites. The larger leaves are laying on the top of the bucket, and there's moisture when lifted. I'm using a larger fan to keep air moving. Do you recommend trimming some leaves during veg? Also which leaves would I cut?

OutForRealanswered grow question 6 years ago
It is better to trim in veg than in bloom. I would remove every leaves that can are in direct contact with the bucket to avoid moisture because if you develop a fungus for ex it could spread on the higher leaves. You can also put the light higher to makes her stretch a bit and gain enough height to not be in contact with the bucket / clay balls. Cut the leaves that are affected or that will be , the ones touching the bucket will possibly have an issue due to water so you can remove them

Day 36 Nutrient change in reservoir and she is just moving along nicely! moving tie downs to adjust to the growth, and getting rid of any leaves that block lower growth. Day 38 can't tell if she's stretching, raised the light to 2 feet from top of canopy. Day 40 the last defoliation for her. Hopefully she bounces back and starts putting weight

Day 44 shes responded well to the last heavy defoliation. Starting to see trichomes form on some leaves. Day 47 shes really starting to stack well. I've made some adjustments to the canopy to get more light penetration as well as keeping her short Day 49 end of the week, gave her some ph water and getting ready for nutrient change for tomorrow!

Will gladly take any comments or criticism. Thanks for visiting! Day 50 Started the week off with a nutrient change and just keeping an eye on growth and formation! Dropped the light down but will bring it back up if theres any burn. Temps are averaging 75F and haven't seen any issues. Day 52 lowered the light to 10 inches above canopy and will see if it impacts negatively. I feel like she's getting too crowded. Day 53 I feel like the buds are starting to thicken up. Some tops are frosting up but most aren't showing. Day 54 Added more ph water to the reservoir.

My plant is short and wide and the center is pretty crowded with leaves but they are all starting to produce trichomes. Is it an issue to have leaves touching each other in this state or do I have to remove some? I don't really want to mess with her in this stage.

Looking at this plant, those leaves are mostly sugar leaves and bud sites leaves. If you were dealing with high RH problems, yes it will be better to trim it a bit, but apparently your RH is under control at 45% , and I can see that lil fan next to your plant. In your personal case, I would suggest to let it do her thing, particularly with an Autoflowering as they don't forgive any mistakes !

Will gladly take any comments or criticism. Thanks for visiting! Day 58 nutrient change and letting her do her thang. Day 60 added ph water and took some fan leaves from the middle where it's most crowded. I'm a little worried about the inner buds getting collecting moisture. Day 61 some minor lst adjustments to open up to the lower bud sites

Day 63 humidity is dropping and the leaves are more brittle and slightly pointing up Day 64 I can see more cloudy than clear trichomes so I know her time is near. Day 65 still torn on chopping in 5 days or waiting till the next weekend Day 67 after doing a little research I found out shes still plumping up on all buds on all sides so if I wait until I see some weird fox tails or ~20% amber trichomes on the buds she will be heavier without sacrificing quality

Day 70 This is the last time I will be giving nutrients. From here it will be topping off the reservoir with ph water. She is putting adding more hairs and weight and most of the trichomes I see are milky with little clearness, no amber. Smooth sailing from here. Day 71 I'm starting to see amber trichomes on the buds. Won't be long now! Day 72 I have decided to give her the chop this week. She has been a pleasure growing and will keep updates on weight and harvest. Day 73 I got her chopped in sections and hung in the tent. I would have let her gone longer but I have things coming up so it was time to get the drying and curing process started. Aiming for 60% rh and 60F

hey congratulations this looks verh healthy for first dwc run. may i ask wich scedule u follow for the nutes ? because ghe scedule says 0.4ml/liter of every part during week 4 (bloom, micro, gro) i want to try dwc too with these nutrients im just confused about the amount i have to give
medicalflyer
medicalflyercommented6 years ago
@Reaper, you can see I use a black hose and black bucket. I also got aluminum tape on the top of the bucket to help keep temps down in the reservoir. I haven't had any issues with light leak but I was over cautious and put hydroton around the edges of the basket to block light from there as well.

@medicalflyer, Thanks for the info. i tryd dwc before with plagron nutes and it was horrible. i also have to block licht from above i have that alien 55L bubbler wich comes with a lime green netpot LOL also the holes where the long rubber things go trough for the airstones i have to stick so much tape on it wtf... how are u blocking the light from those holes

@Reaper, Thanks! It's my first grow ever as well so your comment makes me proud! I honestly just follow the bottle as much as I can. Since my plant is now what I would consider "mild veg" I just started using that application. To answer your other comment as well, the seedling was just showing with no roots, I had the water brought up just above the small layer of hydroton. I learned for my second grow I will add a little more hydroton to the base layer since my girl is shorter and didn't actually stretch above the top of the basket, making anchor points for LST a little harder. As she grew I added more hydroton. If anything just feel it out as you go. I'm learning so much from this one plant that I'm really excited on my future ones! Good luck!

Hi @medicalflyer! Proximity between colas can be an issue, because airflow and light penetration are not at their best, but in your case I think you're just before the red line, unless you have some relative humidity issue (high RH during late flowering) I see no need to defoliate. Keep those sugar leaves to make some canna-butter or some bubble-hash! Hope this will help, keep us updated and happy growing 👊

medicalflyercommented5 years ago
@Stick, thanks for the feedback! My humidity isnt an issue so I'm going to keep monitoring the leaves for moisture.
Athos
Athoscommentedweek 85 years ago
A too dense foliage can have a high humidity risk. Check those leaves, if there traces of water then yes, it is a problem that should be Taken care of by some defoliation

how high was your water when u put the rockwool in the dwc?and did u have alot of root showing out of the rockwool before u put it in the dwc? and how much hydroton was at the bottom of the netpot where u put your seedling? was it about 1 inch?
the end.
