Here we go again🙄. My next attempt at a hydro application after the utter failure that was the last. If I screw this up again then I will potentially consider giving up on it entirely😂.
This one’s interesting - indica dominant, super tasty and high yielding. Fastbuds does not disappoint on the whole so shes def, getting the hydro application. Here’s to hoping for a monster!🤞
Week 2 update - here we go again. Ph - monitored and corrected daily. TDS ~400ppm so no issues. Water temps - F$&K!!! Like 23-24c. I’ve been trying to keep em down below 20c by using frozen water bottles but this is proving pretty difficult. The res. On week 1 looked to be showing signs of algae growth (I think) as early as the third day post changeover. Really hard to say how this is gonna play out. Given how responsive plants in hydro are to changes we could have root rot set in on any day of the grow if were not careful. I decided to amend the nute solution with a diluted 10ml of hydrogen peroxide in the hopes that it can stave off the algae growth a little better but who knows - might work, might not. Short of a $150 investment in a water chiller I’m running very short on remaining options to fix this issue... suggestions always welcomed y’all!👊
Oct. 2 - res. Change
Oct. 5 - res. Change; cut out the h2o2 - res was lookn good so maybe this worked - we’re gonna see for sure over next 3/4 days testing without it. Always troubleshooting it seems😉.
Oct. 7 - 500ml top-up

Week 3 update - well, we made it through week 2 with res. Changes every 4 days and so far no issues, no rot and no other bs issues. Amp’d up the nute concentrations now that she’s got ‘er legs. She’s was showing a little nitro deficient. On another look at the last weeks I don’t think the prior issue was algae (indicating light leaks). It could’ve been contaminants in the pump on week 1 which has since been removed so who knows. The addition of the H2O2 last week has since been removed for obvious reasons. I simply can’t continue adding this throughout the grow as it’ll only serve to kill off the bad stuff, but also all the good stuff that she’s gonna need. That would likely include the hydroguard so what would even be the point of using it otherwise. Doubled up the frozen water bottles last week but we’re now down to 1 to avoid damaging the roots that are now dangling for their food. Again, this potentially won’t be an option soon once the root ball fills out so we’ll see how it goes. This’ll likely be the make or break week to see if she carries through (unlike the last attempt). So far, so good but I’m holding my breathe and will continue to be throughout the grow I think🤞🤞🤞. Hope’n for her growth to kick into high gear now that she’s got er fingers well into the res. Thanks for swing’n and stay tuned! Disaster can strike at any point.👊
Oct. 10 update - talking to your pitcher during a no-hitter is something you simply don’t do. It would seem this is also the case for microbial issues you have with your reservoir when growing hydro🤬🤬🤬. After just 24 hours without including a shot of H2O2 my res. Looks like it coughed up a foot fungus and the roots are now showing signs of early stage rot.... FUUUUCK!!! The temps in the res. (Which I cant fix) are proving unsustainable without an anti-microbial additive. Changed out the res. Again and added in a charge shot of H2O2 in the hopes that the plant can shed the rot and recover. History is slowly repeating itself again folks - let’s hope that we can fix this and at least get this grow back on track (albeit with what is certainly going to be a decreased yield, salvage grow at this point). Boo urns👎👎👎

Week 4 update - goddamnit I hate being right sometimes.🤬🤬🤬. Think the added stress of the res. Issues has thrown her over into flower a couple weeks early. At this point it’s just a test grow to see if we make it all the way to the end. Hydrogen peroxide is back on the menu and seems to be the only thing keeping my res. From going grotey within hours. Thanks as always for stopp’n in. Well do what we can to push something outta this one if possible👍👊

Week 5 update - well, I’m at least happy to say that she’s not dead yet👍. The frozen water bottles have come out and temps are what they are at 20-22c. So we’ve now isolated that the only thing keeping the res. From turning into a raunch fest is the added H2O2. Even adjusting the concentration down to 5ml/10L seems to still keep things in check. What affect this will have on overall plant growth (if any) will be a test for other grows... now that we know we can at least keep it alive.
Don’t be fooled by the photos, the brown portions of the root ball aren’t root rot and just nute water staining (trust me I know too well what that looks like and she would be dead by now if it were).
Also getting some minor burn on the tips which means she’s hit the top end of the nute concentration in these conditions. This is all real valuable info for the next one so I guess we can’t complain too much. Thanks for stick’n around if you have. At least there’s something to learn here right?🤘

Week 6 update - growth has picked up markedly through transition and gotta think she’s gonna stretch a little more before she starts to fatten out. I’ve read so much divergent opinion on utilizing H2O2 for situations like mine that it’s simply impossible to tell if this is a horrible way to maintain a dwc or a stroke of straight genius🤷♂️.
End of the day - sometimes you gotta say screw it and move forward if it’s work’n. The root ball is really forming out now and I’m left to wonder if the week of veg. We lost actually wasn’t lost at all and it just took too long for the tap root to run out to the res???
She’s lookn good and I’m almost confident enough in the process to say this one WILL make it all the way👍. Alls well for now and thanks for swing’n in👊.

Week 7 update - another week without incident and she’s lookn great for what she is, frosting out nicely and already pungent and sticky icky. What were gonna miss in terms of yield, we should make up for in terms of quality🤞. Pruned er back a touch to start the week. There isn’t much to er so didn’t take long. Alls well and should be a big fat (but short/stunted) stalk of ganja when alls said and done👍. I am so itching to try this again with a photo plant🤪, Gettn there folks, hope alls well👊.
Nov. 10 update - had to move this one and the auto destroyer to the small cab. They’re the 2 smallest, both auto and in flower. Meanwhile, may have caught early stages of an aphid infestation on one of the photoperiods so best we separate em now and I’ll need the big cabinet for both treatment and ultimately space considerations as the banner and widow kick into flower.
Week 8 update - about a month into flower, res. Is still stable and the root ball is really starting to fill out. She’s gonna get another light defo this week before we essentially leave er alone for the finish. Shame that we had to move er out to the small cab as the pics tend to be a little crappy and I was really hoping to see this one through in the big cabinet. Swapped out the kind bloom base nutes with pure blend pro due to availability so hopefully we don’t see any major adverse effects. We coast’n until the finish for the most part.👍😎

Week 9 - coming into the sixth week of flowering NT and she’s starting to bulk out the sites. Despite missing out on a full week of veg. (And as a result, having a somewhat underdeveloped plant going into bloom) - she may fill out pretty well. She’s short but beefy and may actually yield ok in the end. The smell is definitely there, Candy and skittles like indeed. Should be a tasty bit of smoke for sure. The roots are doing great, no major issues with the bloom nute change and we still smooth sailn. Looking forward to getting this one finished up👍. Thanks for swing’n in👊.

Week 10 update - week 7 of flower and she’s still bulking up pretty heavy. Haven’t even bothered with a trich. Check yet because she’s still somewhat immature. Alls going well and we’re def. into a groove now with this dwc system. The H202 is proving indispensable and strangely, there really haven’t been any adverse effects with this addition at all. It’s saving my res. From certain doom and making this entire method possible👍. We’re Gettn to the end now though and clawing back some of the base nute potency while slightly increasing bloom nutes. The aphid issue takes no prisoners and they’ve since started showing their little bitch ass faces in this cabinet too🤬. Not to worry though - got some lady bugs due to arrive for deployment tomorrow and we’ll have more than enough to spare for the girls in here as well as the main cabinet. I’ll try to get some pics up once we let em loose😉👍. Thanks for stopp’n by😎👊.

Week 11 update - 8th week of flower now and we are fast approaching the finish. I’m guessing we start flush next week and chop day will be somewhere around end of next weekish. All depends on how much she turns over between now and then. Trichs are lookn good but def. need a little more development.
The aphid issue has been under control in this cabinet for the most part. They don’t seem to like the stickiness and it’s probably the flowering cycle that saved these 2 girls from the same fate as the widow.
Alls well and expect she’ll put out a decent amount more bud than expected given the lost week of veg. And Other noob issues that were encountered. Stay tuned, almost there now👍😎👌.

Week 12 update - this should probably be the harvest post week cuz she’s come’n down in the next couple days. She ripened out fairly quick and not a moment too soon. Despite a tossed plant and some serious ladybug damage control, the aphid issue took hold in this cabinet like mad🤬. It’s bad enough that well be budwashing these girls for the chop. Never had need for this method until now - these little bastards are everywhere and I’m certainly not trashing otherwise quality bud so no choice really. Got er on the flush now and the fades on heavy. Harvest report and trich. Photos to follow peeps👍.

Medium: 🥥🥥🥥🥥
If there is one thing I can appreciate about hydro mediums it’s the ease of maintenance . You’re changing out buckets once a week as opposed to mixing and feeding 3 times a week so the care benefits are definitely there. Less mess but also more precise. The plant suffered some early stage nute burn so had to back things off At one point. Big lesson here was distance from res to the mesh pot. This plant was stunted by a full week due to the distance the taproot had to travel (top of the mesh pot) to get to the water. My seedling will definitely be going lower in the pot next run. This was definitely a limiting factor for the grow and the plant never really got its veg. Legs under itself. The most important lesson on growing with this medium for me was finally being able to stabilize the res. Using a diluted mix of 5ml/L H2O2. Without this additive, the water became a breeding ground for bacteria that rotted out the roots in a matter of hours. It clearly has something to do with the nature of our local tap water but as far as I can tell, adding it in didn’t effect the overall growth of the plant. Only subsequent grows will be able to tell us if it’s sustainable and I’m praying that it will be because this method is just too much fun.👍
Yield/Harvest🌴
Yeesh - don’t be fooled by the chunky, football sized colas. The buds grew in very fluffy, the little branches almost resembling a doc grinspoon strain at harvest. There was little to no density in the buds at all which is disappointing. Again, this plant could not escape an aphid infestation in late flower and we had to do a budwash during chop to clean up and sort out the usable bud from within the infested leaves. While I’m happy to report that the 2 stage wash cleared out all the dirt and critters - it was a lot of extra work to end up with a paltry 1.58oz after a 7 day dry. I dried the buds on the stems as opposed to clipping em all off before they hit the rack just because I’ve found this to be a little more delicate for the ultimate curing process. Overall, the grow was a successful attempt at DWC and the next run will be where the system should truly shine. Credit to FB for producing some resilient genetics here. You can punish a plant much more than this without killing it👌🤙💪. Thanks for following along and offering up the comments, tips and support. Next runs gonna be 3 winners for sure😉👍😎👊.
