Finally! A new plant. After growing three differnt photoperiods over Q2&3 this year im more than hyped to launch our new Amnesia Auto (Zamnesia) grow. Were planning to compare two plants, flowering in two different (diy) grow-fridges. One has 600w full spectrum bloom light, and the other 1200w. The rest of the environmental stats we will try to keep identical to investigate the differences these plant will grow to have during the blooming phase.
The amnesia's have made a huge leap this week. totally hyped; these girls (espescially no #1 and #2) look like a little ball of lettuce. so compact, and so full and lush. i'm really happy with the way this is going.
this week ive started adding a little bit of nutes; mainly stuff to get that root zone going. intentionally started out with Janeco Lightmix so i have a higher influence on the actual nutrient contents of my medium. Started very low on the nutes; half of the prescribed amount (by my Advanced Nutrients planner).
first time ever to apply some foliar spraying with nutes. i've done this before with vegging plants but never with nutrients in it. trying to do this about 2-3 times everyday. i'm keeping an eye on my humidity, so if that jumps up i will know that the plant has started to transpire and has a big enough rootsystem to uptake through the soil. then i'll stop humidifying the room and also stop applying the foliar.
i'm doing my best to keep the humidity high, however my growing container is so small that any changes i make to the climate can swing the climate to another extreme within no-time. Therefore i'm using piezo elements in glass of water to get some moisture into the air.
i think somewhere this week it will be time to transplant two of these ladies. i want to grow the third in my window - although it is winter here. I'm just very curious to compare the three.
one will transplant into bigger pot and stay under this lamp: LUMERI PNLVB1200
another one will also transplant into bigger pot and then go in a similiar growingspace, under a lamp that is half the power: LUMERI PNLVB600
the third one will go into the windowframe.
i'm very curious to discover how big the differences will become over time. 💩
some of the bottom leaves (all 3 plants affected) are slightly curling up towards the end. she looks pretty healthy to me, so i'm wondering if anyone here recognises this and knows what might cause such symptoms?
@levensfiets hi there my friend I'm thinking that this is a classic case of overwatering you need to allow the medium your growing in time to dry a little between
waterings this is to let your roots breathe .
A new week, starting tomorrow. Writing this in advance, to set out my plans for this week.
I've transplanted two of the three ladies to 15 liters of soil (in a pot that is too big, does that matter anything?), and the third went into a 10 liter pot - all on day 19 of veg.
#1 - 600 watts of LED
#2 - 1200 watts of LED
#3 - 200 watts of LED
Using Janeco Light Mix so i'm hoping that this will help me switch to a soil that is good for flower rather quick after feeding vegetative nutrients.
This week i'll be feeding half of the veg-plan together with half of the bloom plan. Made sure not to skip the Voodoo Juiice and Piranha for microbial benefits to the roots after transplant.
I've tried to "tuck under" some of the bigger leaves to try and expose more of the bud sites/nodes and try to have them grow some more.
By the end of this week i'm hoping to start with LST on these ladies.
The three girls are almost switching into flower, so this week i'll start with a low dosed flowering mix in terms of nutes
Differences between the three are huge, there is no doubt that the three different environments we've put them in are definetely putting their mark on the growth and overall character of the plants.
the signs of light deficiency on plant number 3 are showing clearly: its brittle and very wide spread, you can tell its looking for more light.
Number #2 gets the most light and is hardly stretching at all. it seems like a crop of lettuce.
Number #1 gets plenty light, not showing any signs of slowing down however i'm noticing that this one consumes less water (probably has to do with temp/RH levels being different due to the different lamp) than number #2.
Probably should give #2 some more straight water because its consuming so much water and i do not want to overfeed it. I think #1 is doing fine and can do with a little less water, but with nutrients.
#3 is hardly using any water it seems like, i'm thinking of moving it next to a radiator so it should be able to get a quicker absorbtion and vaporisation of water in its system, hopefully charging it with some more power.
Just did some LST on day 29 as well, including removal of 2 leafs of both #1 and #2. Not sure if it should be considered defoliation though.. Don't think so ;)
------------
end of week 5: i've flushed plants #1 and #2 as seen on a video on youtube. the idea behind this is to flush out any leftover grow nutes and start with a clean slate when the girls transition into flower.
as an added benefit i've discovered that it is much easier to maintain a beneficial VPD value when the earth is completely soaked once a week instead of watering it with smalller portions more often. The earth contains a lot more water and evaporates it into the climate, easily reaching a 60% RH without a humidifier in these fridges. I've even lowered the lamps to get the temps up, because the VPD was reaching values below 0.90.
After the flush at the end of the previous week, the girls have been doing fabulous. Gaining some extra height, foliage and also growing substantially in width. Bud sites looking great and did some tucking under to expose these to a decent amount of light.
I've started logging the VPD approximately 4 times a day in both fridges and making small adjustments to keep it right. So far really happy with how thats going:)
On day 36 we have our first flowering: #3 (under the lowest light conditions) has started to flower.
I'm starting to feel like my day-1-count is off... two of the three girls (the ones in the best light conditions) are still not transfering into flower, although they are still gaining size and looking healthy af.
I've performed a defoliation from below as well as some lollypopping on the 2 of them that are not flowering yet, and also i've let them sit in complete darkness for one night - just seeing if that might kickstart the flowering process.
Gave them a full watering on monday, with only Advanced Nutrients Bloom on half the suggested dosage (2ml/Liter) and pH'd the water down to about 6.3.
Low stress training is really showing results this week; finally i've managede to bend and secure the stems of most of the grow sites in such a way that most of them are now in direct sunlight. i hadn't figure this would be possible without even topping the plant once.
Flipping #1 into flower since both #1 and #2 are not behaving like an autoflower should ;) Week 8 and still no signs of flower in both.
#3 is still going "strong" in flower, taking in to account that she has a pretty severe light deficiency - but thats the experiment we intended to do anyways so all good on that part.
Bought some new equipment this week for photographing the ladies in a slightly more fashionable way. Just a very simple tripod for my phone and a super-low-budget softbox. The photography sessions feel absolutely meditative :)
After switching the light schedule, our supposed "autoflowers" have finaly started to show signs of actually flowering. Week 9, what a trip.
This grow is full of surprises and new lessons for me: the potting mix i have used for this grow is apparently purely peat (black and white peat moss) with perlite mixed in. After digging into some more information about all kinds of soils i found out that i was apparently growing "hydroponically" because this is apparently a soilless mix. The world is full of surprises 😅
This does explain a lot of the stuff that i've been trying to deal with in the last few weeks: first and foremost my plants were looking like they were developing a range of different nutrient deficiencies. I still find it hard to tell which ones, but symptoms ranged from decoloration and deformation of the lower leafs up to small burnt tips on the developing flowers, new growth being brittle and signs that looked like underwatering. I'm convinced that this has a lot to do with the fact tht this is a soilless medium with 0 pre-supplied nutrients (the light mix does supply nutrients for a week or two, but no more). I've been going really slow on the feeding because in previous runs i tended to overfeed and had issues with that, so therefore only used about a quarter to half of the recommended dosages.
So, at this point i've completely switched up my feeding: i bought 2 new bottles of hydroponic fertilizers (GHE Bloom and GHE Micro) and i'm using those in addition to a little bit of plagron terra grow - to make sure the plant also gets its fair share of nitrogen. After 3 days of watering with this stuff (both at 2ml/L) the plants are almost literally screaming "THANK YOU!" and seem to be really benefitting from this new insight and change of strategies.
(for more background, see Week 9 in diary)
Am i correct for assuming that when growing in peat moss (supplemented with perlite) i would need a hydroponic fertilizer because this is a soilless medium? thanks ! :)
Look into Coco nutes! I used ProMix during my first grow and I had to get the PH Perfect line from Advanced Nutrients 🙌
Had to keep up with plenty of feedings once I dialed in the right levels. I backed off to a 70/30 Soil to ProMix combo for my second grow so I didn't have to keep up with as many feedings.
Best of luck! 👍
It's been an exciting week to say the least. I feel like i've just nearly avoided a total failure due to me completely not understanding the rules of the type of grow-medium i was using. The addition of GH bloom and micro to the feeding, and also keeping a tigher watch on my pH (working with 6.6 as an aim now, to make sure i dont kill my micro organisms in the soil) and on my TDS (1170 PPM as of now, plant seems to be happy with it)
All that i'm trying to figure out for now is how to proceed in terms of nitrogen: i've tried adding no supplements that contain it because i feel like plant #1 is slightly curling down. Although it looks fairly healthy i feel like i might have given it too much nitrogen over the course of pre-flower (and maybe even before)
So yeah steady as she goes! :)
thanks for checking out my grow.
Its week 11, Harvest time!! .... or is it?
Well, i can tell you - absolutely not. 💩
#3 is well into flower right now, but i dont think she's gonna come down for another 3 weeks. She's def. the furthest along though. I'll be using the thrichoscope end of this week i reckon.
#2 and #1 are both just barely getting started in their flower, so they will probably run for another 5 or 6 weeks at least.
i've got good hopes for plants 2 and 3, and also feel like the light-intensity experiment is really giving me some solid results. (the one with the least light is #3, whhich even started to flower much sooner than the other two, i feel like there is a link with the scarcity of light energy it receives. anyone here that would confirm or deny such an idea?)
This week started with a bit of a scare: i noticed some burning of the pistils (which are still mostly white); looking like this was due to the lights being cranked up too high. I cannot regulate them however, so i decided to switch the lights between the two fridges.
i've been reading into the pro's / con's of running LEDS and espescialy took a deeper dive into the whole VPD thing. Turns out that (apparently?) LED panels do not have a significant infra-red output so the leafs don't heat up like they do under a conventional HPS light for instance. Therefore i'm now aiming to have both fridges around the following values:
DAY:
28,5ºC | RH: 55%
NIGHT:
21,5ºC | RH: 38%
Starting to feel like autopilot. Running into some minor problems this week in terms of feeding.
Plant #3 had a runoff PPM of around 4000. Immediately decided to fllush her, but because of the medium's waterholding - the earth feels really heavy, even multiple days afterwards. She will be enjoying a two week flush and will then be chopped.
another week, another update. by the end of week 6 of flower the two ladies (#1 and #2) are doing great. I noticed a little deficiency by rust spots on the leaves; did some research online and i went ahead to give this one ane extra dose of Overdrive (0-5-4) for her newly developed flowering PK hunger.
developing something that i first treated as a phosphorus deficiency but after some more research i've found that this might actually be a calcium deficiency, which makes total sense to me because i havent fed them any calmag although the plants are pretty big compared to their container size. the nugs are getting pretty big and dense, and they probably just need a little extra on that side of things. B52 simply not delivering enough calcium at this point because uper leaves (exposed to the lights) are developing brown spots this week.
i've only adjusted this on the first day of week 16 (week 8 of flower)
they seem like they are gonna need a few weeks still.
Also: this week we switched up #2 and #1 because #2 was developing some foxtailing and #1 felt like she could handle the intense light better.
started this week off with a bit of a downer. the leafs on plant #2 were looking absolutely horrendous. brown/rust spots all over the place and the leafage also looked wayyyy to dark for my liking.
Number #1 however was doing fabulous - on exactly the same nutrient regime.
I think i overfed with PK boosters a little bit, or it might just be the calcium deficiency (used Overdrive + plagron Green Sensation over the last 2-3 weeks).
pumped them with some extra calmag which i hadn't given the ladies in a week or 6 (pretty much stopped that on flower) but they were totally craving for calcium by the looks of it.
Maybe something to do with the (poor, i know) choice of medium? pure peat moss is just not the way to go ;)
but yeah , i guess that's how we learn!! another really interesting grow anyway and still have very high hopes for these ladies.
Trichomes on #2 are underdeveloped. Do you guys reckon it would help buying a UVB lamp (10 rating) 26 watt and adding those to both growrooms to compensate for the LED's lack of UV lighting? Maybe some Molasses in the feeding (never used it before) ?

@levensfiets I'm not too savvy on the uv lights but I can definately reccomend the use of mollasses in your feeds as it does wonders for the soil microbes
Remember happy soil= happy roots then that = happy Fruits I use a tablespoon per 10L watering can otherwise you could go with just a couple of teaspoons to start with
molasses has helped to develop more trichomes on plant #1, although its a little late into the grow. I've been giving the plant pH'd water with just a little molasses and some calmag to battle a calcium deficiency i've been dealing with.
final week before harvest. Some mold showing because this plant has flowered for WAY to long. It has stacked some pretty big nugs though.
finishing up with just calmag (for flush) and a little molasses just because the plant reacted so great to it.
overall i've learned a lot fro mthis grow. Had fungus gnats, a little mold on #2 (discovered during harvest) and also experienced what its like to grow in pure peatmoss.
amended to little at times, amended too much at other times. three completely different grows.
Plant #1 was by far the best one. Most resin production and overall most stable in terms of nutrient uptake and deficiencies.
overall i will probably not grow a lot of sativa's inside this fridge anymore. its just not good to have them all foxtail and stress out over small things. Time for more indica's! 😇
