The week starts Monday, Jan-13 in flowering stage. The plant is growing thick and fast, with very short node intervals creating a thick canopy. Carried out substantial defoliation of almost all the big fan leaves and a few little stems that were not likely to make it above the canopy. Avoided defoliating the major cola branches. This encourages the plant not to waste resources on a node which is only going to produce “popcorn” buds. The plants reacted well to the defoliation and were looking good by the end of the light cycle for the day. The net is completely full and this will be the last week of applying any LST as part of the ScrOG setup. Light is maintained at 30cm distance from canopy, with daily fertigation at lights on - watering almost 2.5L per day. Lowered the average RH in the space to 50%. ----prior 4 weeks updates ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The week starts Monday, Jan-06 in flowering stage. The net is filling up nicely with the ScrOG process being enjoyable - just tucking branches nicely under squares once stretched enough. The Indica dominant strain is really shining with incredible dense growth and thick branches that don't bend as easily as it's Sativa neighbour. Light is maintained at 30cm distance from canopy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The week starts Monday, Dec-30 in vegetative stage - switching the light regime to flowering. Initiated flowering with an extended dark period prior to switching light regime - this practice is supposed to promote a faster initiation of flowering by the plant. Maintain lights off from Dec-31, 10:00 until Jan 1 - 18:45 allowing a 32hr darkness period prior to switching the light regime. Light regime is set for 12.5/11.5 on/off allowing me a better maintenance window for my living situation. Both plants are growing fast and strong, showing their genetic traits. Some shoots are going through the net already. Have started to tuck branches as they grow to fill up any gaps. Did minor defoliation on both plants near their stem base and centres. Some green algae on roots/coco medium on the surface of the pot. Have defoliated some more which hopefully helps with air circulation at the area. Will monitor over the week - may need to decrease watering frequency, although they seem to be keeping up drinking. Lowered the High Humidity setting of the extraction fan to 60% - which effectively keeps it running at least 75% of the time, and removed the humidifier. Will monitor and adjust as necessary lowering the setting to 50% in a few weeks whilst flowering. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The week starts Monday, Dec-23 in vegetative stage. Installed the ScrOG net - Set at 20cm from the base of the plants, being 55cm from ground. The plant is showing great growth, lots of branching and new growth sprouts. A few branches are beginning to come through the net and almost all main branches are now tied down horizontally after the two recent toppings. Applied more LST and will wait for the branches to reach the net and start tucking. The AC Infinity fan is currently only running intermittently with its current settings. This seems to impact the utilisation and effectiveness of the carbon filter in use. The desired outcome is for the fan to be running for longer periods whilst in Auto config. Lowered the High Level Humidity from 70% to 60%, and more importantly, lowered the Max Speed from 4 to 2 with the intent that a lower fan speed will result in longer periods where the extraction fan is operated to remain below threshold targets for the grow space. Plant growth continues to be strong at the end of the week. Big fan leaves near the top are beginning to look a little serrated and dark, similar to the start of this grow. This may be due to the extra CalMag being added which was the issue at the start of the grow. Will keep monitoring and half the CalMag dosage on next feed. Importantly, I have learnt nutrient mixing of the CalMag should be done prior to the Canna Coco A & B. To date I have done the opposite which may explain my earlier issues. Fertigating daily at the start of the light cycle. One more week of vegetative growth before switching to flowering although I may need to switch earlier due to the vigorous growth and considering the stretch yet to come. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My grow setup includes; - Secret Jardin DS120W tent (120cm x 60cm x 180cm) placed inside the bedroom. Passive intake of air is from a closed off section of the room where the central heating boiler sits - the intake is warm air (20 degC.) and fairly dry (40% RH) during the winter months. - Mars Hydro SP250 LED light - extraction fan - AC Infinity Cloudline T6 - ventilation fans - aquarium heater - small oil heater - small dehumidifier - 20L Airpots and 3.5L general pots for seedling stage - Canna Coco substrate and nutrients - pH and EC/TDS meters - Thermo/Hygro meter

Grow Questions

First time using Coco (Canna Prof), since seedlings the leaves are deformed and exhibit over-watering symptoms. In 3.5L pots with white healthy roots showing from below. Water (with nutrients) every 2-3 days. Could someone suggest where my problem focus should be?

hey there Hazey bobby, you're right about the symptoms but i can tell you already know it's not that simple... dont worry , very simple to fix. So in coco you need nutrients, micro nutrients, and because the medium is sterile, you need something to break down the nutrients and micro for the plant which normally in soil would be done by bacterial life. So you need what's called a chelation agent, for example : enzymes, humic acid, beneficial bacteria, or even diluted H202 0.3% max. add that to every watering and you'll see your plant perk up almost instantly. Hope this helps ! 🚀

https://www.growweedeasy.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/cannabis-plant-problem-flowchart.jpg drooping leaves can have alot of causes. because you know your actions just floow the flowchart to get the answer. and btw... coco friendly nutrients contain enzymes to break down the nutrients for the plant dont worry On the same website is a very good tutorial for groiwng in coco coir... one think as first.. coc should never run dry...greetings and happy growing

@Mrs_Larimar, thanks heaps for the feedback. I did read Canna Coco Pro comes pre-buffered and the Canna Coco (A&B) nutrients should work well. And I did add enzymes in the last feed. I'm going through the flowchart - it's a great website for info.

Hell yes. Great pull and stellar buds man. Fantastic work👌. I'll be looking into those trimmers. I don't mind mine, but they get gummed up so easily and the spring keeps binding😕. Thanks for the links fella. Cheers. And again, congrats😉

@HazeyBobby, Haha. Surplus is never a bad thing😉. You do oil concentrates at all (solvent free)? I wasn't an oil guy and didn't think it would do good by me and/or be a waste of product...but Holy crap, I'm on board now. Harvested and milled enough for 1.25 liters 😅. Hahaha. Give her a shot for poops and giggles!? And I really feel I see your project in my head, but I'm definitely going to need you to show us, hahaha. It sounds very interesting. This will kinda look like tomatoes growing on a vertical trellis (net) w/ the light pointing from the side not from the top? Regardless! Sounds cool man. Best of luck soaking those new seeds!!!!😉😀 Edit: I'm dumb. I see you already said you have 2 ounce for concentrates! Nvm!!

@JinksyGrows, next is a creative grow... an experiment to LST a vertical ScrOG with my light placed on the side horizontally. Will most likely grow OG Kush ... I'm holding myself back from another Strawberry Lemonade as it's yielded so much and I'll have a problem with overstock... I'm already good for a couple of years with this crop's harvest :)

@Ozeola, I love the light. It's my first LED light and I spent a lot of time researching many options around this price mark and for 4'x2' tent. It's very bright, minimal heat and a solid form factor. Check out this review - fairly comprehensive - www.youtube.com/watch Hope it helps.

@JinksyGrows, yeah very cool to be harvesting at the same time! the Strawberry Lemonade plant (the other one in my tent) has now sprawled over and is looking like a monster ... pity harvesting is such a one-off event :) by the way just to share - I used these Japanese scissors for manicuring and they made a world of difference to the experience :) https://www.amazon.com/Chikamasa-Stainless-Scissors-Fluorine-Resin-resistant/dp/B00JSYB9I6

@MrRaid, thanks heaps! just chopped her canopy layer off and wow! the smell during trimming!!! whilst I was disappointed with the size of buds I really won't be complaining about the yield :) And to your point... it may be a little too big for that space and light. Next grow I'm going to try mainlining and do a full lollipop.

@CRiSPrGrow, just as an update - the plants are recovering well after the first feed/water with the enzymes. I have also stablised the temp and humidity in the grow tent as this was in wild swings. Thanks again.

@HazeyBobby, cannazym is perfect, just wait till the medium dries out then start adding it, it will fix the leaf curlings etc

HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@Daviduhh, I found the right tools make a huge difference alongside harvesting in stages (e.g. tops first then 10 days later the lower layers). I suffered the same last year with the trimming but it's been a very different experience with this crop. I've linked the two tools I use. Also think the strain itself makes a difference based on its flower structures. I wet trim all the fan leaves immediately then after 1-2 days of starting the drying process (buds hung) I do the trimming and manicuring over 1-2 days. Music always helps :) https://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-HGPP400C-Precision-Curved-Pruner/dp/B005449D3W (just great for initial trim) https://www.amazon.com/Chikamasa-Stainless-Scissors-Fluorine-Resin-resistant/dp/B00JSYB9I6 (a must have for final manicure)

@HazeyBobby, unfortunately, the chop is my least favorite part of the growing process. It takes foreveeer to trim. Do you do wet trimming or dry trimming?
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@Daviduhh, yeah it's a special one ... chop chop in a few hours so can't wait :)

Are you using nutrients every time you water? It looks like you may be possibly underfeeding them. You should use Cannas feeding chart. While it's hard to over water using coco coir it does happen especially if they are started in too large of a pot. While the top of the pot seems dry the bottom of the pot stays too wet until you have enough roots to fill the pot. If you've been using "plain water" on them with no nutrients you may have disrupted the cal/mag balance of the coco coir and it's stealing cal/mag out of your nutrient feedings. You are dealing with large day night temperature swings this could cause some nutrient absorption issues. Maintaining higher humidity levels during the daytime in the 55% + range could help keep her stoma open to absorb more Co2 which is needed for photosythesis.
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@Philindicus, OK - understood. I'm was adding half dosage of the BAC CalMag but will stop it from today and observe the plants for coming week. Great info - thank you! I have added more photos in latest week from yesterday after topping.
Philindicus
Philindicuscommented5 years ago
@HazeyBobby, It's hard to tell in your photos. If the lowest leaves that are turning yellow have reddish stems it's usually a sign of lack of nitrogen. Using too much Calcium and magnesium can cause issues locking out potassium absorption. Excesses of all three can actually all lockout each other. So too much calcium will lockout magnesium and potassium. Too much magnesium will lockout calcium and potassium. Too much potassium will lock out calcium and magnesium. Typically 4 parts potassium to 2 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium needs to be used to keep some type of balance between them. Canna Coco nutrients should already have extra calcium and magnesium in it. It's possible your other cal/mag product may be causing issues from what I can find on the internet bac cal/mag seems to have more magnesium than calcium. If that's the case you have excess magnesium locking out calcium and potassium. Some times it's not a good idea to mix different brands of nutrients. If you shoot canna a message they will probably repeat everything I've just mentioned.
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@Philindicus, I use nutrients every time I water and have started daily fertigation. I have used the Canna coco feeding chart as a template with 'Light Feeding' option - found the EC levels high at 1.8-2 so I reduced my numbers. I will be increasing the strength this coming week as per my schedule. I'm also about to hopefully fix my temp & humidity issues. And yes, the pot was too big for the seedling - good lesson learnt. Thanks heaps for the feedback and advise, much appreciated.

@MrRaid, thanks! I'm slightly disappointed with the bud size development and hopefully the change in nutrients line from Canna to GHE will address that in future grows. I think the plants got too much nitrogen whilst flowering as Canna uses the same mix (A&B) throughout a grow.

@CRiSPrGrow, thanks heaps for the note. I just posted a question on my Straw.Lem. plant which is in the same crop/grow space as I'm very worried about the bud development for this stage of flowering. Your feedback would be valuable and I will look to increase the cal/mag from the next feed. 🙏
