The stretch is obviously over as she's gone from drinking almost a gallon of water/day to more like a third. I'm curious as to how long to keep defoiliating? Most guides I've read say stop after two weeks into flowering, but I've still got leaves popping out overnight shading bud sites.
Hey there, congrats on this beautiful harvest! I'm a new grower who is still learning. I was interested in knowing your feeding/watering schedule.
For example do you feed one day then water the second day then feed again the day after then water, etc. or how often do you do that a week?
im currently on a f/f/f/w/f/f/f/w..etc schedule so feed daily but i only use 2-4 cups. then repeat the same cycle again after i water with calmag
Looking forward to hearing from you!
thanks
@ash93, OK, so here's how I learned how to measure PPM. The number itself isn't really important, it's how the number changes over time. So what I do is first thing I measure the PPM of my water to see what the baseline is. I use 2 parts distilled/1 part tap. That gives me a baseline of 100ish ppm. Then I add whatever nutrients the manufacturer recommends for that week. If it's a young plant, I'll start with 1/4, then 1/2, etc. But the point is I'm not trying to reach a specific PPM, I'm just putting in what the manufacturer recommends. Then I measure the whole thing. Say for example it comes to 1100. So I know that 100 of that is my water, so 1000 is nutes. OK, so I change the reservoir. Now I measure every day. If the water level goes down and ppm stays the same, then the plant is using the nutes efficiently and things are good. If the ppm goes down with the water level, the plant needs more nutes the next res change. If the ppm goes up as the water level decreases, then there are too many nutes for the plant to absorb so you need to change res quickly. So I measure the PPM the same time every day, both before and after I add PH'd water (distilled in my case), before so I can see how well the plant is absorbing nutrients and after so I can set a new baseline for the next day. Make sense?
Also, unless I have some problem, I'm not going to change the res more than once a week. I will add distilled water every day, but as long as the initial nute load is correct, 7-10 days between res changes has been the norm
@fumble1130, Thanks so much for the Tip. Do you mind sharing some details about that because im starting to see some nute burn.
For example. what was your ppm and nute mix amounts every week.
@ash93, Good questions! Well, I'm doing Deep Water Culture hydroponics, so I only "feed" when I do reservoir changes, every 7-10 days. I do add distilled water every day. When I grew in soil, I would water every other day and feed once a week. I did more than that and ended up with pretty severe nute burn the second I switched to flower so make you sure start slow with them
@Buddie, I started getting some browning on the very tips around Wk 4 when I went from 1/2 to full strength, so I backed off for a couple of weeks. Other than that there have been zero issues.
My base of 2 gallons distilled/1 gallon tap gives me around 100 ppm so it's easy to go from there and track. I'm using GH plus some supplements at full strength now and the res is good for about a week. I'm also giving her between 1/3-2/3 gallons of distilled water/day. She looks good to me but as this is my first DWC grow I don't really have a feel for it yet.
