Weekly Notes:
No training, no topping yet.
Same original Gaia Green 4-4-4 mixed with Coco and 1.5 Cups of Worm castings per 5 gallon fabric pot (1" of clay pellets across the bottom of each pot).
I will add more Coco and top dress with more 4-4-4 about Mid-April (a month before outdoor transplanting).
Just letting the little babies grow for the moment.
I did a large watering this week (the first good soak). I bottom-fed each pot by letting it sit in 2 inches of water while I watered the top of the soil completely for the first time. Give them a reason to move into every bit of that pot as they grow in the next week. I also wanted to give the worm castings & 4-4-4 Gaia that I placed slightly above the pellets a soaking.
It's helped me stabilize the tent conditions in doing so. I've been struggling to boost the humidity above 50% in there with my humidifier consistently. However, I'm nervous about fungus gnats being enticed by the organic matter that's just been moistened & an inviting moist top layer of soil. I have my eyes peeled.
Also, I definitely light burned one of my Bubba's (the one most under the light). I watered the soil surface this week & quickly misted the plant leaves, only to find a solid burn and droplet stain as evidence of my error. It's recovered with new growth in the past day or so, thankfully.
So...as a result I raised the lights a little since this Mars LED actually has the juice to affect seedlings (even from 2ft+ away). I should be thankful for that ability for less than $200?
Bubba as a whole suffice to say is the only one prone to that thus far (the 2 gallon is quite modest in size & the other 5 gallon girl is a little more pale than any other strain). They're really delicate in Veg and look it, if you look closely. They're also very slow in Veg (with a quick burst but mostly focus on flower production in about 50 days once triggered).
Trouble in paradise. Issues with new growth on a few plants in my 2nd tent. Rather suddenly. Past experience lead me to suspect a pest eating my roots (no, not a deficiency). Checked soil. Bingo. Bulb mite? Best way to attack issue? I have 3 weeks before these go outdoors. Neem?
Hello.. Hope you are well.. Ive read that Hypoaspis mites Are a natural wat to get them little critters.. Just also read that Cosmolaelaps claviger, a beneficial mite that is a natural predator of bulb mites.. Contact ur local gardening centres or hyd3shops and ask if they stock these natural predators.. Stay safe n gud luck.. Please let me know if u are successful as i haven't tryed this myself yet luckily but never know for future reference.. 👍🍀
@jef79 with a great answer : biological solutions are the only solutions that really are sure to work with no damage to the quality of your bud. I personally use bacilus thuriengiensis, or ladybugs
@PotentiallyPotent, depends! Early Veg I have just been doing a simple molasses and worm casting tea with a tiny bit of liquid Kelp and Gaia Green 4-4-4 in there too. Later I’ll do a more fungal dominated tea in flower.
Pest management has been a major focus with everyone this year. I've sprayed down spider mites in mid veg then thrips and now the damn silk worms are repelling out of the fucking trees! Good luck and great looking grow.
@Obitrice, Haha seems like a never ending battle sometimes hey? I just try to keep the plant as healthy as I can so it can fight off whatever comes at it. Hope it all works out!
@Sweet_Seeds, very excited to give Cream Caramel CBD version a go. It was a freebie seed (and a pretty old one at that), so I’m just happy it’s popped and keeping up with the others so far!
Thanks all! I ended up using/ordering a combo of all three suggestions (Neem, Soap and predatory mites). Plants in this tent all still look good, and the other tent with most affected plant hanging in there. Outdoor organic environment will take care of these issues, and the mites I add should help for the 4 ladies I leave indoors and flip/flower for the next 70-75 days. Appreciate the support!
I also wanted to note I added Insect Frass and Worm Castings as a top dress. The Frass provides the only immediately plant available Chitin, which will help activate the plant’s auto-immune response. I mixed aloe Vera powder into my last watering as well to help the plant out. Later this weekend I will top dress with Malted Barley.
