Still can’t be definite on the gender. This is after putting clones in the shade for two weeks. I am running plant 1 and 2 through the course as if they are girls. This week, I trimmed off leaves and sucker branches.
Think that I need to play with c/n ratio (carbon / nitrogen). Basic idea is that plant will flower once they have metabolized and store up carbohydrate. If they have too much nitrogen, then they would continue to get bigger and grow more leaves.
So I start feeding Zamaldelica plants with molasses and bloom nutes at the end of the week. Hopefully, by next week, the clones would let me know their gender.
Plant 1 – slender with two main columns.
Plant 1 is in well familiar form. Looks like a Thai and behaving like a Thai. In this case, she won’t flower until fall equinox.
Key is to keep her small in a container.
On the clone, I still can see long pistils coming out. There are some buds that I can’t decide if there are leaves buds or balls. My mistake is probably by giving worm casting in the mix. I don’t think she will flower until nitrogen is depleted.
This may take a few weeks. Light deprivation only make her stretchy.
Plant 2 – unfamiliar Sativa.
Plant 2 has four main columns. The main crotch split from the weight and not quite healed. So, I looped a piece of wire to keep it from splitting further. I need to glue this split crotch later to prevent disease.
Plant 2 produces many side branches. Would be great if she is a garden basil that I use for cooking Thai food.
Zamaldelica plant 2 leaves smell like it would make a nice salad.
Plant 2 clone is not flowering either. At least I can see that it has leaves buds and not ball.
Plant 3 – vigorous runt.
Plant 3 was slow. And still had not caught up. It is doing well in the rain.
I took out the two clones and transplanted to a 2 liter pot. One died after a couple of days while the other is okay. Could be that I did not mix the soil well enough and there were pockets of concentrated fertilizer that killed the root.
Strategy for this plant is to flower the mother and raise the clone. Again, the mother plant 3 had not flower after same treatment as plant 1 and plant 2.
Lovely med. That zamaldelica is firing in the tropics! I noticed wolf has a malawi going which is a parent strain. Both these must be popular as they are both out of stock at attitude! All the best matey
Oh @Shooey mate, it is a long ass grow. Had been growing since April and still a few weeks away.
Ace Seeds keep their seed fresh and doesn't produce too many seeds. So, you have to keep an eye out for it. Good thing is that they label seed packing date. I got mine on boxing day sales and they were only a few months old.
On the other hand, growing from regular seeds takes another step in weeding out male/female plants. Then you choose the phenotypes that you like and clone them. I think you buy Zamaldelica only once in a very long while. This is not an easy grow.
However, the effect is very strong crazy potent weed. The type of weed that you pass one joint among your mates. A couple of drags will get you high enough before hitting the bars. I am reminiscing good old days. It is not the weed for spending time with your family. Even for party, I still like a more chilling out effect.
I think half a dose of Zamaldelica would be a good smoke before out door sports. For gym, I over trained after I smoked Zamaldelica. Got so sore for a few days afterward 😄 😄 😅. And this is only from immature buds that I took from collapsed branch.
Good Day Med, I'm from the tropics too (we maybe in the same country too) Base on you knowledge, what strain can you recommend to grow in this hot climate for both regular and auto. Local strains are pain the ass to grow because of their long veg and flowering time and the buds end up very airy. I would be very glad to hear you answer, thank you.
@Irish_Luck, yes, I grow for medicinal purpose.
I started to grow to for a friend with cancer. These day main use is for insomniacs. So, I make coconut infused oil. And there is also a guy who has the shake and relies on ganja.
Every now and then, I smoke weed to lift my mood. Really help me survive my marriage.
@Irish_Luck, this is a hobby. I rely on friends to help me learn. I am happy to pay it forward.
I grow outside. As much full sun as possible but not so much that passers by can see. I keep my plants in vegetation stage by placing them in spot where fence light cast on them during the night. When they get big enough, I moved them to other spots for flowering.
Yes, Zamaldelica clones very easily. I made two rounds of clones already. Think I'll keep the smaller phenotype.
Zamaldelica is very sensitive to light. The challenges is that they flowers only when light hour short. So part sun may be better. And Ace may not stock the seeds. I had to buy regular seeds and remove the males. Between ZD and Golden Tiger, think I can grow either one in a given year. Next year I'll be looking to Golden Tiger / Panama cross.
There are many good seeds companies. Shipping are always discreet. Some has stealth option. I buy direct and not from local people. As a rule of thumb, I buy from area where cannabis is legal or semi-legal. That is Spain and the state of Illinois. These places have more options in payment and shipping. So my range of availability is limited. In all honesty, I can't possibly grow all the strains that I want in my life time. 😀😀😀
I would be happy to answer questions via Grow Diaries chat box.
@Med_in_Tropic, Damn! Those are the advice I want to hear, long and full of knowledge from experience. Apologies for the typographical errors on my first comment, I'm a little buzzed last night. I admire you Med, you're not like the other locals who are full of shit and grow just to boast about it and look cool (the reason is maybe in your name, you grow your medicines right?). I'm a cheap grower too, I prefer my plants outside and in the sun, but damn this country is hot lol. Do you grow in full sun or you give your plants good amount of shade? I got a little space in my yard to grow some but most part of it is shaded. Regarding the Zamldelica I used to want to grow those along with golden tiger but I read that they have a really long veg time. Yours look good and looks like they can be cloned easily.
I've been eyeing to buy on sensibleseeds for some hybrids, have you got any experience using them? Are discreet shipping really that secure? Any advice you can share helps Med and for that I am grateful. I apologize for pelting you with so much question it's just that there's not much people in this country I can confidently rely on with good knowledge regarding this. Stay safe!
@@MJS2017, I learned quit a bit from your old Zamaldelica diary. Thank you for that. Also thanks for the warning. The are so fast. I better shorten vegging and keep pot small.
Ahh, unlucky mate. It’s a tough part of the year for growing there by the looks. I imagine it’s hard to find the time to attend to them all as well. It’s funny about the work function. I feel like now is the time more and more people are being open about their cannabis use here in Oz, and it seems to be cutting through. Recently I know a petition is being prepared for submission in QLD in relation to easing of laws around small cultivators and access for medical and recreational users. It argues for up to 6 plants for personal use, which is just right i think. At least you will get some hard earned buds to enjoy quicker than expected!! Cheers matey 🍻
😀😀😀😀😀 @Shooey, at the end of the party, one of the band singer walked over to comment that we were good audience. 😀😀😀😀 And we gave away half an ounce to them.
If we w gave the band weed BEFORE, the party probably started dinner 😀😀😀😀😀
Now I don’t have any Boom Boom left. Lesson learned is that hybrid weed works well in a party setting. No paranoid, and not too Stoney.
Damn mold... Good luck wrapping this lady up Med. Hope the weather holds up for you and you can split her👍. Patience! LOL😂 Just kidding. That's what I need to learn. You've got that down😉
@Med_in_Tropic, 😅 You just described me there. We have this in common. That's why I started growing these proxy projects, haha. If one fails over here, I'll have one over there!
You ever make shatter? Its so easy. I never knew alcohol melts trichomes. Now i dont cry over trim or larfey weed i just melt n filter it, dry n smoke with a jet flame
@GYOweed, I am eye balling a rosin press.
I am running out of space. Grinding weed save some space. But making shatter would save some more. And yes! the part I don't like about growing is trimming work. Making shatter makes sense to me.
😀😀😀 @Shooey, oh I so wish!
As it is, i give up on the waiting for clones to tell me their gender. They are still vegging after three weeks. I can't fight mother nature out door. 😅
Gonna put the mother plants into flower this week end. The plants are big, If any is male it will be a pollen storm if I am not careful.
Yoghurt?? 🤓
Very detailed read sir, well done 👍 Seems like your weather is way more challenging to grow outdoors by the looks of it, plants look happy regardless imo✌️
No @Smartie I don't give yogurt through the entire grow. It would be too expensive. I only feed three weeks toward the end. Counting backward from expected harvest. I fed yogurt on week -3, week -2, and week -1, last week is no feeding.
I also chase pot size up. I don't put small plants in big pot. Too much rain here and it flushes goodness away. So, any extra yogurt left , I feed to plants that I am about to be change pot. Newly transplanted plants already have fresh earth worm casting in.
@GYOweed, ya it had been a month since you reported your harvest. Imagine that it is well cured. Enjoy!
Good luck with your S1. Have you tried Miracle Berry? A bit more indica but really stink. LOL
@Med_in_Tropic, im smoking it now lol. Mine wasnt loud but its potent and more pefume like than weed. I made S1 selfies, 2 are growing look totally different too which makes sense
@Med_in_Tropic, I see. I sometimes get paranoidbut not too much.Especially if I smoke in daytime.I think everyone will get I'm high :D.Panama here can make people paranoid, racy weed. But in general,I love warm, giggly, pressure around eyes feeling, love Sativas.I'll be ordering zamal auto from Ace. Along with some other strains.I don't like indica high,I can still function but the next day is always a pain.Energetic, clear, talkative high I prefer.
If I had opportunity,I would definitely go for outdoor, only 1-2 plants but this would be great for me
@GYOweed, much thanks for timing and dosage.
Also, from this grow small pot definitely is better for Zamaldelica. But it work better if you make clones.
I’tt try your nap technique after June with Golden Tiger
@Med_in_Tropic, playing with 6-bap at flip it seems 50-100ppm foliar one time is enough to reduce stretch and start onset of bud earlier and that's what i have noticed.
@Med_in_Tropic, I was trying some sarcasm there 😂 I play around a bit with lux to let pictures pop a bit more but I'm not using any filter.. Rest assured I have mess laying around, just not taking pictures from it 🤣
@Smartie, you are too humble. I did see filter effect on leaf color vs rice husk. But your arrangement is very neat and very clean. As for me, I leave sacks of worm casting everywhere.
I put bright solar flood lights aimed at my weed I bred at night since march. They stay on for a good few hours. I am going to experiment yanking them maybe August 1st here in 36 N (same as spain and mazar i shariff i think) maybe like a clone the quick loss of hours will make me 1-2 months ahead in flower...Ill see in September.
Do you have natural 12/12 year round right?
@GYOweed, Zamal Delica seemed to be sensitive to light. A few hours of week light keeps them in veg. I think that I get pistils only because it had been raining for three weeks straight.
Same behavior as South East Asian land races. My native land cannabis starts to flower in July but keep growing fox tails between rain bouts.
Happy growing brother.
@Med_in_Tropic, my manipulation seemed to have made them stretch and make flower shaped internodes but no pistils yet. If i see a pistol august 15 it means i beat waiting unit last September to see one.
@Clutch, I found stem splitting makes final buds aging ripen more uniformly. I don’t think it will speed over all things up. More like the end game move.
I do it on my long flowering Sativa. These usually have fox tail and generate new flowers on some branches.
Split stems kills the root. As plant is in the death throe, they squeeze out final trichome stretch and younger fliers stow growing.
Stem splitting doesn’t do much with Indica. Indica store so much soare food in leaves and stem. And they are quick. And auto’s died on their own clock anyway.
@Med_in_Tropic, I just read through the description here. 11 to 14 weeks of flowering 😮 pretty long.
Maybe the stem splitting in final week can speed things up a bit? I'm thinking about doing it too this year.
@Med_in_Tropic, yes mate. Great to get the guided tour. I will send you another garden vid soon as we are moving into spring and a have replaced the winter veg with some varieties for the warmer months. I have finally beaten off those rats too!!! All the best to you and the family med
@sativaman, yes I do 😀😀😀
I end up keping clone of only one pheno.
Have a big plant that should be finished in a couple of weeks. And I have stop feeding her nutes already. Next week will be only molasses.
Also have two plants in 7 liters that is supposed to be six weeks away but I may not let them go the full length.
