Day 15: Nothing new Notes: Something is up with my filter. The pressure in my tent is no longer negative, Rather, no longer as negative as it once was. It's almost equal. I took off the ducting that connected my filter to exhaust fan to see why there was very little air coming out of the fan. The damn thing roared to life and immediately started sucking air out like it was brand new. Looking at reddit, I saw a few posts with similar issues, "vivosun" and "humidifier" were common terms. I'm honestly not sure if the filter just sucks, or if it sucking a liter or two of water per day out of the air destroyed my filter. I feel like I would see that issue pop up more frequently given the number of people using humidifiers in their tents. I'm glad I am throwing in a new fan and filter tomorrow, but I'm kinda scared to use a humidifier now. I know Phresh are good filters...but I don't want to have to replace the filter in the middle of flowering. That would be bad news bears. Also, my rH somehow got up to 87%. I have no idea how long it was in that state. Temperature range was 60 to 67f too. Not great. Plants are looking solid though. Gonna hold off until tomorrow to water them. Day 16: Watering Notes: New Vortex S-600 came today. With the help of reddit, I decided to try a new solution. When I took off my old filter, white dust started flying off it. Apparently it was caked all in the pre-filter and the filter itself was full of this white dust. I could've kept shaking it, but didn't want to release all that filtered dust back into the room. So, it's sitting in a box waiting to be returned. Same thing with the exhaust fan. There was a nice layer of white dust on the blades. So, instead of destroying my next filter, I'm going to hold off installing it until it starts to smell a bit, then put it back on ASAP. My mission is to control humidity, which should be a bit easier without the variable of the clogged up filter. Once the new filter goes up, humidifier comes out as ambient rH is around 30%. I gave them both a small cup of water today around the base of the plant. Slowly trying to ease them into their giant new homes. Day 17: Nothing new Notes: Plants are getting bigger! I've been running the humidifier on full blast only during the plant's night cycle. It stays steady at about 50%. Day cycle it's about 35%. I just ordered a Variac to control the fan, so once I can mess around with that, I will be able to dial in the humidity to a perfect level. The controller that came with the fan (bundled on Amazon) is poop. It gives off a wonderful sounding humming which is great for motors /s. Day 18: Watering Notes: Spent a bit of time just looking at my plants and gave them a good watering. I have to come up with some solution to water them, because i just keep pouring water on them. Its fine now because there's no nutrients in the water, but I will want to avoid that when nutrients are in the water. Day 19: Nothing new Notes: Third node starting to grow in on both plants. Going to buy some 1 1/4in hose today to attach to my 1 gallon water jugs as watering right now, is a pain in the ass with the damn scrog in the way. Even though the scrog really isn't being used, I need to figure out something now before they start to grow in. Soil is kinda dry, but I'll give them another day to test out my rigged up watering can. I also am still waiting on my variac to show up so I can better control humidity. It's been upper 30s with the humidifier on full blast during the night cycle. But the tent can hardly retain any humidity due to the fan going full blast with no filter. Hence the need for variable speed. Also waiting on a couple pre-filters I ordered to show up. Also discovered a possible light leak. In the next room over, there is a wall with some HVAC vents going through that has a small space with no drywall, which during certain times of the day leaks light into the room, which is pointed at an intake vent that is open. I through a bunch of towels to fill in the space until I can figure out a more permanent solution. Day 20: Watering Notes: Variac came today. Vortex is running at half speed with NO HUM. Also, I noticed something new today. Actually a friend of mine who lives with me noticed it (while in the room). One or both of my plants is starting to be a bit more fragrant!! God I love that smell. It doesn't smell outside the room, and chopping the fan speed in half will help for a while until it starts to get stronger. I'll have to get others opinions daily since i'll be desensitized to it. Gave both plants each a big solo cup's worth of water. Going to start increasing the amount in 2-3 days or so as the roots expand throughout the big smart pots. Day 21: Nothing new Notes: Gently rubbed the leaves of my NL and they just smell like normal vegetation. With the GSC however, definitely a pungent aroma to them already. That plant is going to be the smelly one for sure once it's actually in flower. I will definitely only be able to check on them (opening the tent) when no one is home or late at night. Soil is still kinda damp from yesterday's watering, so we're good there. I noticed there was a very fine dusting of particles on the plants. I'm guessing it's some dust coming in through the intakes, I put an HVAC filter in front of one of the intakes, and will probably end up taping it there to help filter the air coming in. I have the exhaust fan down to 55V and it's not audible outside of the room and still cycling the air through the tent adequately. Still trying to dial in the humidity though. It's sitting at 40% rH. With turning the fan down again, it should increase, but will definitely check humidity levels again tomorrow once the night cycle is over. Other than the dust, plants seem to be growing very fast with no issues. Didn't get a chance to get some tubing for my watering setup, but will definitely be doing that tomorrow as it will probably end up being a watering day. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Anyone ever try using the last week of vegetative growth's feeding schedule during the first week of flowering? Decided to try it out since the plants will be growing more vegetation than focusing on flowering during the first week after flipping. At least that's what I assume.

Actually, if you go by almost any manufacturer - they say that you should be using nutrients that are primarily for veg into first week or two of flower. It's recommended as plants need time to adjust to the light cycle and actually start flowering. Until that happens they stretch, some very much so and for that they need the nutrients for veg. Most of times it's recommended to slowly decrease them from 100% to 0%

I see some amber on there, but I can't tell exactly how much. I'd like to chop around 20% amber at most. Is my estimate of next tuesday a good time to chop?

The trichs will continue to ripen after you harvest the buds so if your looking for 20% at harvest you got a few more days. But if your looking for 20% at smoke then Iโ€™d harvest them now and you should end up around where you want to be. I see about 10% now

Usually when the pistils curl back and turn reddish brown, then it's time to harvest, but that can also be deceiving, sometimes they do that for environmental conditions. You'll have to check the thricomes daily, because they can get to the point you want any day now.

Hi there! Having amber trichomes means that you already missed the perfect window, your buds will get slightly less THC but more CBN, resulting in a relaxing / couchlocking smoke. If you're looking for a recreative high, you should have cut her when the first amber trichomes appeared. If you want something more 'stone' than 'high', to fight anxiety or insomnia for example, you can wait until you have 20-30% of amber trichomes. I'll be around, good luck with your havest!

@grow_time99, technically a ScrOG is use when you have/want just a few plants to grow. During Veg you keep the mains tops under the net sending them to the sides, as the same time these mains tops will grow shoots from each internode, this is where you fill up the trellis. When most of the squares are full of tops, you still let them grow 2 nodes minimum, this is where you get a bud in every hole while keeping canopy level under control... and finally when everything is ready and full you switch to 12/12 .

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Yeah, a lot of the setup in there is definitely not being utilized. My reasoning for having everything crammed in there was to make sure it all fit! lol. I will be taking it out shortly and modifying it a bit to free up some space.

May I suggest you to plug off all the big inner fan leaves from these 4 tops who passed the trellis , it makes 4 leaves in total, to let the light in your NL plant . The plant will start to send the smaller shoots to the canopy feeling sheโ€™s got a chance to put these tops on the canopy, you can lollipop the smaller shoots to make them grow even faster.

You cardon filter is full of water bro... Look on the notice or label it should say max recommended RH (between 70 to 80 normally). It useless at this stage... You should add your filter in week 4-5 of flowering where you maintain low RH (around 40%) and when your plants gets stinky. RH increase during night cycle by the way ๐Ÿ˜‰

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Well, my tent is in my basement. Prior to me setting everything up, I cleaned out the entire area, framed and walled the section of the basement off, swept, vacuumed, and bleached the walls and floor. I thought I was pretty thorough, but I guess that fan sucked all the dust up. It's gotta be from drywall dust, and various other dust and basement grossness throughout the years.
JUNGLE_B4RNS
JUNGLE_B4RNS
@grow_time99,where was that white dust coming from ?
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Thanks for the advice. I literally just updated my comments and then read yours! Plan is to dump the filter till flowering when I will then get rid of the humidifier as the ambient rH is around 30% anyway.

taping these type of wounds helps a lot, some plants i end up taping AND making a tie support i use silica to try to reduce the number of breakages as well, it helps
Jaindoh
Jaindoh
@grow_time99, i was less concerned with it healing better because it's taped and more that it might prevent the split from deepening and shocking the plant really badly -- which has happened to me.
grow_time99
grow_time99
@Jaindoh, I tried taping it, but due to the low clearance on the canopy, it's impossible to get a roll or even a strip of duct tape in there, and I am fairly certain it wouldn't be enough pressure to keep the breakage pushed together. I just started using silica too. Not sure how long it takes to notice a difference, but will definitely be using it going forward. Sooo...I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is, and let it heal on its own. I'm curious as to what will happen. I want a good yield, but I am very open to experimenting on these plants since it's my first grow. I want to make mistakes and learn from them.

@grow_time99, playing Mother Nature is a full time job ๐Ÿ˜Š And the cycle will reverse in week 3 or 4 of flowering, youโ€™re gonna pull out water from the dehumidifier ๐Ÿ˜…
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, That's what the thing I bought does. Plug in whatever you want to it -usually a humidifier/dehumidifier- set the range, and it will turn on once the rH low threshhold is reached, and turn off once the high rH is reached. Saves me time refilling the stupid humidifier, power, water, and keeps the plants in the ideal VPD range for their timeline. Also will be great for drying. I'm not sure why I didn't buy this thing sooner, but I'm glad I did.
