This is my very first grow. I am attempting two plants (both strains from Nirvana and feminized seeds). (Left) Northern Light: Typically an Indica, or Indica dominant strain. (Right) Girl Scout Cookies: According to Nirvana, it's a hybrid. Grow medium: Fox Farms Ocean Forest Nutrients: Fox Farms Trio Air Filter/Fan: Both are VIVOSUN 6in with adjustable speed on the fan. No complaints here. Fan is audible from upstairs, but it has more to do with the fact that's it's resting on a surface outside the tent, which is vibrating, and creating more noise. I plan to move the fan inside the tent and hang it. Lights: 1 VIPERSPECTRA 600W (equivalent). I decided to go the LED route after reading due to it's lower power consumption, ease of setting up, and I'm going to get shit for this...I thought the purple/pink lights looked dope. After researching a ton of LED lights and reading reviews, I settled on the VIPERSPECTRA model. Lately, I've been hearing about Quantum Boards and COB setups...and I gotta admit, it's very enticing to just build one custom for my setup, and just return the VIPERSPECTRA. I might do this down the road, but for my first grow, I wanted to keep things more simple until I get a few under my belt so I have less to worry about. There is a heater outside the tent due to my tent being in the basement, which is kinda cold. I walled off the area the tent is in, which definitely helps with the temperature. It's a nice 71 degrees Fahrenheit inside the tent with a relative humidity of 50%. The rH is normally around 25-30%, hence the humidifier. The humidifier itself kind of sucks. I have to run it almost full steam to keep the humidity up during vegetation, and the tank has to be filled daily. There will be low-stress training, multiple toppings (probably twice), and grown in a scrog. I plant to grow in vegetation until the scrog is full, and then flip to a 12/12 light schedule to induce flowering. Scorg is (poorly) homemade. I originally constructed it with legs, and then took them off and decided to add ropes, pulleys, and carabiners. It's turning out to be quite the clusterfuck at the top of my tent as you can see in the pictures. I am honestly probably going to let the plants grow a bit to see how high they're going to grow, and then reattach the legs to the scrog and keep it at that height for the duration of the grow. Since it's two plants, I don't think plant accessibility is going to be an issue. I also might just scrap this scrog all-together and build a new one out of PVC piping and zip ties to the tent poles. Plants are both currently in solo cups, and once the leaves are hitting the edges, will be transplanted to their final homes, which are both 5 gallon Smart Pots. As I said before, this is my first grow, and everything has been a great learning experience for me thus far. I have made and will continue to make mistakes, but I will definitely try to learn from them. If anyone has any advice, tips, criticism, or anything, please feel free to let me know. I take criticism well! Update: Day 7: I have modified my setup a bit. My humidity has been pretty hard to maintain. The humidifier has to be filled roughly every 12 hours, which is kind of annoying. My timer is 18/6, and lights are off at 10am. I've been trying to get down there before lights off to fill the tank, but sometimes I"ll be a little late and will have to mess with the humidifier with lights out, which is kind of treacherous, as I don't want to accidentally knock my plants over or spill water everywhere. So, I tried something a little different. I have one vent flap open in the back of the tent, which is against a wall, just to make sure absolutely no light is getting in during the day. I moved my tent a bit forward to have some space behind the tent, and put the humidifier back there with the mist nozzle aiming directly at the vent. As soon as I zipped the tent back up, all the mist was immediately being sucked into the vent. I also moved the internal fans around a bit to help direct the mist towards both plants. Humidity has been pretty stable at 50-60% as a result of this new setup, plus I have so much more room in my tent for activities without that stupid humidifier taking up space. Plus, there is a tiny green indicator LED in the humidifier that I tried my best to tape over, but I think some light was leaking through. It was green light though, which you can technically use to see plants in the dark without it confusing them, but I'm not sure of the actual spectrum of the light. Better safe than sorry! It's now outside the tent where it can't hurt any innocent plants. Also, the first couple days I am pretty sure I was over watering, so I switched to misting them with a spray bottle of tap water (6.5ph) every 2-3 days or so. All that's left to do today is wait for lights to come back on, so I can zip tie everything down and clean up the cables. As a final update for the week, I made a decision to use a Quantum LED setup. I bought the Horticulture Lighting Group 260 Watt Quantum Board LED Kit, which is coming tomorrow (Monday)! I can't wait to get the new one set up and running! I'll be returning the VIPARSPECTRA as the new light will be a perfect lighting setup for the space I'm utilizing. 😜

Anyone ever try using the last week of vegetative growth's feeding schedule during the first week of flowering? Decided to try it out since the plants will be growing more vegetation than focusing on flowering during the first week after flipping. At least that's what I assume.

Actually, if you go by almost any manufacturer - they say that you should be using nutrients that are primarily for veg into first week or two of flower. It's recommended as plants need time to adjust to the light cycle and actually start flowering. Until that happens they stretch, some very much so and for that they need the nutrients for veg. Most of times it's recommended to slowly decrease them from 100% to 0%

I see some amber on there, but I can't tell exactly how much. I'd like to chop around 20% amber at most. Is my estimate of next tuesday a good time to chop?

The trichs will continue to ripen after you harvest the buds so if your looking for 20% at harvest you got a few more days. But if your looking for 20% at smoke then I’d harvest them now and you should end up around where you want to be. I see about 10% now

Usually when the pistils curl back and turn reddish brown, then it's time to harvest, but that can also be deceiving, sometimes they do that for environmental conditions. You'll have to check the thricomes daily, because they can get to the point you want any day now.

Hi there! Having amber trichomes means that you already missed the perfect window, your buds will get slightly less THC but more CBN, resulting in a relaxing / couchlocking smoke. If you're looking for a recreative high, you should have cut her when the first amber trichomes appeared. If you want something more 'stone' than 'high', to fight anxiety or insomnia for example, you can wait until you have 20-30% of amber trichomes. I'll be around, good luck with your havest!

@grow_time99, technically a ScrOG is use when you have/want just a few plants to grow. During Veg you keep the mains tops under the net sending them to the sides, as the same time these mains tops will grow shoots from each internode, this is where you fill up the trellis. When most of the squares are full of tops, you still let them grow 2 nodes minimum, this is where you get a bud in every hole while keeping canopy level under control... and finally when everything is ready and full you switch to 12/12 .

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Yeah, a lot of the setup in there is definitely not being utilized. My reasoning for having everything crammed in there was to make sure it all fit! lol. I will be taking it out shortly and modifying it a bit to free up some space.

May I suggest you to plug off all the big inner fan leaves from these 4 tops who passed the trellis , it makes 4 leaves in total, to let the light in your NL plant . The plant will start to send the smaller shoots to the canopy feeling she’s got a chance to put these tops on the canopy, you can lollipop the smaller shoots to make them grow even faster.

You cardon filter is full of water bro... Look on the notice or label it should say max recommended RH (between 70 to 80 normally). It useless at this stage... You should add your filter in week 4-5 of flowering where you maintain low RH (around 40%) and when your plants gets stinky. RH increase during night cycle by the way 😉

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Well, my tent is in my basement. Prior to me setting everything up, I cleaned out the entire area, framed and walled the section of the basement off, swept, vacuumed, and bleached the walls and floor. I thought I was pretty thorough, but I guess that fan sucked all the dust up. It's gotta be from drywall dust, and various other dust and basement grossness throughout the years.
JUNGLE_B4RNS
JUNGLE_B4RNS
@grow_time99,where was that white dust coming from ?
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Thanks for the advice. I literally just updated my comments and then read yours! Plan is to dump the filter till flowering when I will then get rid of the humidifier as the ambient rH is around 30% anyway.

taping these type of wounds helps a lot, some plants i end up taping AND making a tie support i use silica to try to reduce the number of breakages as well, it helps
Jaindoh
Jaindoh
@grow_time99, i was less concerned with it healing better because it's taped and more that it might prevent the split from deepening and shocking the plant really badly -- which has happened to me.
grow_time99
grow_time99
@Jaindoh, I tried taping it, but due to the low clearance on the canopy, it's impossible to get a roll or even a strip of duct tape in there, and I am fairly certain it wouldn't be enough pressure to keep the breakage pushed together. I just started using silica too. Not sure how long it takes to notice a difference, but will definitely be using it going forward. Sooo...I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is, and let it heal on its own. I'm curious as to what will happen. I want a good yield, but I am very open to experimenting on these plants since it's my first grow. I want to make mistakes and learn from them.

You can get an Hygrostat, found at all prices, it goes from the simple hygrostat plug to super duper climat controler.

@grow_time99, playing Mother Nature is a full time job 😊 And the cycle will reverse in week 3 or 4 of flowering, you’re gonna pull out water from the dehumidifier 😅
grow_time99
grow_time99
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, That's what the thing I bought does. Plug in whatever you want to it -usually a humidifier/dehumidifier- set the range, and it will turn on once the rH low threshhold is reached, and turn off once the high rH is reached. Saves me time refilling the stupid humidifier, power, water, and keeps the plants in the ideal VPD range for their timeline. Also will be great for drying. I'm not sure why I didn't buy this thing sooner, but I'm glad I did.
