Day 36: Nothing today Notes: Plants seem to be responding OK to their first feeding of nutrients. I might step up the next feeding to 1/2 the recommended feeding and see how it responds. Soil is still pretty full of water. I think my watering/feeding yesterday wasn't really necessary. They're slowly growing above the scrog, which is really cool. I keep hoping they grow a few inches so I can tuck! It's my new favorite thing to do. I wish I could interact with the plants more, but I know leaving them to do their thing is best. So for now, it's watering and changing the damn humidifier. I can't wait to be rid of that cursed device. I might have to turn it down during lights out because it's hitting 80 rH during that time period, which is a bit high on the VPD chart. I can't wait to fill this whole screen, but I feel like my plants are smaller than they should be given the timeline. I have a feeling it's going to be a 2 month + vegetation time before I flip to flowering. I feel like the second grow is going to be much smoother since this first grow was more of a learning experience rather than yield concerns. Also just bought a bunch of fabric to create kind of a proper curtain around the tent area to 1.) Give it a more cozy feel and 2.) Better insulate the space for the sake of temperature, humidity and possible light leaks. Day 37: Nothing today. Notes: Came home today and opened my front door and was greeted with the wonderful aroma of weed. Great that I can smell it through the floor in a different section of the house. Not so great for inquisitive kids. I immediately put the the filter in. Poof. No more smell. Just like that. I am keeping the humidifier in for a while, until they start flowering. I have a feeling humidity won't be an issue by then. Though, the plants don't see to be growing too much. I feel like I say that a lot. I did buy a humidity/temperature controller, the Inkbird IHC200 for humidity and ITC308 for controlling temperature in case I need a portable AC unit come summer time. Also bought 6 Caliber IV portable hygrometers for curing. I've gone a bit (read: a lot) over my budget, But I THINK I have just about everything I could possibly need. Day 38: Tucking Notes: Did some more tucking and noticed that some of my leaves have pattern like tears on them. I think when they grow up, some of the leaves get caught on the scrog's wiring, which is kinda like twisty tie material. Messing around with it, it does seem sort of sharp. I will probably replace it soon with something a little more rounded. GSC is almost ready for another watering, probably a day tops. NL however, still has wet soil. I am definitely thinking it was over-watered. I thought NL was supposed to be super easy, but it's been more temperamental (probably due to my not-so-green thumb), whereas GSC has been bursting at the seams to grow more and more. Day 39: Nothing today. Notes: Soil still feels a bit damp...or maybe just cool? I can't tell. I actually googled "how to tell when soil is wet" and found a cool method that involves sticking a chopstick or popsicle stick an inch deep into the soil for 10 minutes. Afterwards, the wood will have absorbed some water if the soil is wet. If dry, then you won't see any water marks. So, I did that and it turns out my soil is actually wet, so no watering today. It will have been 5 days tomorrow 😬 I did set up my inkbird today. Set the thermostat to 75f and the humidistat to 54% rH. The only issue is that the heater has a button you must press to turn it on. So when power is given back to the space heater, it does nothing until you press the button. So, yet another damn thing I have to buy. And I'll probably end up buying a portable AC unit in the summertime 😡 Day 40: Watering GSC 1 gallon of water pH: 6.3 Runoff pH: 6.9 NL 3/4 gallon of water pH: 6.1 Runoff pH: 6.6 Bought some 20 gauge twisted pair electrical wire to redo the scrog. 65 ft of the stuff. All 65 ft of it were twisted. So, I had to untwist...all of it. It took me like 3 hours to undo my old scrog, untwist the new wire, and rewire the scrog. It was a constant battle with snags and tangles, what a clusterfuck. It definitely feels and looks nicer now though. The wire is insulated, soft, flexible yet strong. Soil was noticeably dry this time and i gave them water slowly until I started seeing runoff. Roughly a gallon for GSC and 3/4 of a gallon for NL. Runoff tested at 6.9 for GSC and 6.6 for NL. Plants look really healthy. Day 41: Tucking Notes: Did some tucking on the GSC. Not sure what's up with the NL, but it feels like I'm never tucking and the bud sites aren't growing up. No weird discoloring, obvious deficiencies or toxicities...it just seems like it's stunted. Day 42: Nothing new Notes: Soil still damp, so no watering, and no nutrients this week. Next watering will be a 1/2 strength dose. The plants are looking really good. I'm gonna let some of the bud sites grow a few inches above the canopy before I tuck again. Every little square I look in, I find a new bud site growing. The scrog is definitely an LST machine. By the time I flip, there's going to be a ton of fully developed bud sites.

Anyone ever try using the last week of vegetative growth's feeding schedule during the first week of flowering? Decided to try it out since the plants will be growing more vegetation than focusing on flowering during the first week after flipping. At least that's what I assume.

Actually, if you go by almost any manufacturer - they say that you should be using nutrients that are primarily for veg into first week or two of flower. It's recommended as plants need time to adjust to the light cycle and actually start flowering. Until that happens they stretch, some very much so and for that they need the nutrients for veg. Most of times it's recommended to slowly decrease them from 100% to 0%

I see some amber on there, but I can't tell exactly how much. I'd like to chop around 20% amber at most. Is my estimate of next tuesday a good time to chop?

The trichs will continue to ripen after you harvest the buds so if your looking for 20% at harvest you got a few more days. But if your looking for 20% at smoke then I’d harvest them now and you should end up around where you want to be. I see about 10% now

Usually when the pistils curl back and turn reddish brown, then it's time to harvest, but that can also be deceiving, sometimes they do that for environmental conditions. You'll have to check the thricomes daily, because they can get to the point you want any day now.

Hi there! Having amber trichomes means that you already missed the perfect window, your buds will get slightly less THC but more CBN, resulting in a relaxing / couchlocking smoke. If you're looking for a recreative high, you should have cut her when the first amber trichomes appeared. If you want something more 'stone' than 'high', to fight anxiety or insomnia for example, you can wait until you have 20-30% of amber trichomes. I'll be around, good luck with your havest!

It’s okay... no problemo bro. You can fix it with ductape, otherwise you can call this monstercropping 😄

@grow_time99, technically a ScrOG is use when you have/want just a few plants to grow. During Veg you keep the mains tops under the net sending them to the sides, as the same time these mains tops will grow shoots from each internode, this is where you fill up the trellis. When most of the squares are full of tops, you still let them grow 2 nodes minimum, this is where you get a bud in every hole while keeping canopy level under control... and finally when everything is ready and full you switch to 12/12 .

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Yeah, a lot of the setup in there is definitely not being utilized. My reasoning for having everything crammed in there was to make sure it all fit! lol. I will be taking it out shortly and modifying it a bit to free up some space.

May I suggest you to plug off all the big inner fan leaves from these 4 tops who passed the trellis , it makes 4 leaves in total, to let the light in your NL plant . The plant will start to send the smaller shoots to the canopy feeling she’s got a chance to put these tops on the canopy, you can lollipop the smaller shoots to make them grow even faster.

You cardon filter is full of water bro... Look on the notice or label it should say max recommended RH (between 70 to 80 normally). It useless at this stage... You should add your filter in week 4-5 of flowering where you maintain low RH (around 40%) and when your plants gets stinky. RH increase during night cycle by the way 😉

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Well, my tent is in my basement. Prior to me setting everything up, I cleaned out the entire area, framed and walled the section of the basement off, swept, vacuumed, and bleached the walls and floor. I thought I was pretty thorough, but I guess that fan sucked all the dust up. It's gotta be from drywall dust, and various other dust and basement grossness throughout the years.
JUNGLE_B4RNS
JUNGLE_B4RNScommented7 years ago
@grow_time99,where was that white dust coming from ?
grow_time99
grow_time99commented7 years ago
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Thanks for the advice. I literally just updated my comments and then read yours! Plan is to dump the filter till flowering when I will then get rid of the humidifier as the ambient rH is around 30% anyway.

taping these type of wounds helps a lot, some plants i end up taping AND making a tie support i use silica to try to reduce the number of breakages as well, it helps
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@grow_time99, i was less concerned with it healing better because it's taped and more that it might prevent the split from deepening and shocking the plant really badly -- which has happened to me.
grow_time99
grow_time99commented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, I tried taping it, but due to the low clearance on the canopy, it's impossible to get a roll or even a strip of duct tape in there, and I am fairly certain it wouldn't be enough pressure to keep the breakage pushed together. I just started using silica too. Not sure how long it takes to notice a difference, but will definitely be using it going forward. Sooo...I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is, and let it heal on its own. I'm curious as to what will happen. I want a good yield, but I am very open to experimenting on these plants since it's my first grow. I want to make mistakes and learn from them.

You can get an Hygrostat, found at all prices, it goes from the simple hygrostat plug to super duper climat controler.

JUNGLE_B4RNScommented7 years ago
@grow_time99, playing Mother Nature is a full time job 😊 And the cycle will reverse in week 3 or 4 of flowering, you’re gonna pull out water from the dehumidifier 😅
grow_time99
grow_time99commented7 years ago
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, That's what the thing I bought does. Plug in whatever you want to it -usually a humidifier/dehumidifier- set the range, and it will turn on once the rH low threshhold is reached, and turn off once the high rH is reached. Saves me time refilling the stupid humidifier, power, water, and keeps the plants in the ideal VPD range for their timeline. Also will be great for drying. I'm not sure why I didn't buy this thing sooner, but I'm glad I did.
